Until then, you may download and complete the Preliminary Registration Form and submit it via fax or physical mail. Earlybird pricing available until 3/3/10! For more information, please see: http://www.arteducators.org/news/news_page_7.html

InAEA is still under the InSEA affiliation progress. Besides Dr. Stokrocki voluntarily to be the vice president (Thank you Dr. Stokrocki!), I also invite some scholars as InAEA committees. However, we still need world councilors and world consultants from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Oceania, South America, and South-East Asia. If you would like to devote yourself or you know someone is good for the position, please feel free to contact with me.

InAEA is a non-profit organization. There is no membership fee, and InAEA currently is not using any website commercial for making any income. (Even the mini avatars I made upstairs are free to take.) Therefore, all committees will not be able to get paid. Maybe InAEA will accept donation in the future, we will see what we should do at that time.

Discussion:

Since InAEA is still under the InSEA affiliation progress, we were discussing about the InAEA constitution during the whole meeting time. Thanks for presented members, we did make progress! If you would like to participate in the process of forming the constitution, please feel free to contact with me. :) I will be very glad to hear from you.

Field trip: AED 322 Virtual Gallery at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Penn%20State%20Isle%202/43/197/26

Next meeting time: December 7th 2009 (Mon.), 6:00 pm PDT (SL time).

Lullabies of the world - a collection of animated films based on lullabies of different nations. Our movies are made for everybody, but mostly for children. The viewer will feel as if he is lulled by a loving mother.

Every lullaby is performed in its original language. The plot of the movie is based on the story told in the lullaby. Visual images reflect the lifestyle and traditions of each nation.—From Lullabies of the world

This is an international lullabies project, supported by the Federal Agency for Culture and Cinematography of the Russian Federation. Every country has their own lullabies with very different lullaby stories. Even though the animation for me is Russian style, but each scene in each lullaby animation is based on each cultural background. I cannot understand most of the lullabies because of language, but from the animation, I can flow with the imagery and music to feel it. There are more than 20 lullabies from 20 different countries. I think this is a great visual culture animation for art educators to share with students.

How can ethical and formal values be "taught" in higher education without ideological didacticism? How have academic institutions traditionally succeeded or failed in interacting with community partners to the satisfaction of all parties? This workshop will look at these issues through brief case studies in existing and emerging programs, and interactive discussion. Curricular overviews and course descriptions will be available to participants on this page in advance.

Games for Change
The increasing ubiquity of games as a form of communication as well as entertainment invites the invention of new forms and purposes. The theme of this year's conference is: "Can Performance Change the World?"

With this theme, we ask performance activists and scholars to reflect on and address the political aspects of their performance work; at the same time, we invite social change activists to reflect on and address the performance aspects of their political activities. We are looking for proposals -for panels, workshops, performances, demonstrations, installations, etc. - that address this overarching question.

The sponsors of Performing the World - the East Side Institute for Group and Short Term Psychotherapy and the All Stars Project, Inc. - are based in New York City. For decades, both organizations have worked to create a performance-oriented culture and community, in conscious and direct relationship to progressive social change. Our activities involve all neighborhoods and social strata in New York City, and have created an international network of connections.

We envision Performing the World 2010 as a three-day "performance of conversation" with people from all over the world - scholars and researchers; teachers, therapists, social workers and community organizers; doctors and other health workers; theatre and other performance artists; union activists and business leaders; economists and political activists - on the subject of performance and the transformation of the individual, the community, and the world.

The question "Can Performance Change the World?" suggests many themes and topics. Here are a few:

* Does performance contribute to people seeing the world in new ways?

* Play, performance and learning in and outside of school

* Community, therapy and community therapy

* Playing at work and working at play

* New health care performances for connecting mind and body

* Therapy, performance and emotional growth

* How is the economy performing?

* What does performing on stage have to do with performing off-stage?

* Group creativity and social change

* Performance, activism and revolution

Proposal submission forms are available at www.performingtheworld.org. Proposals are due March 1, 2010.

Conference Fees (fees are for the entire conference; there is no day rate)

Before July 1, 2010: US$205

After July 1, 2010: US$235

A key part of the Performing the World experience is the person-to-person connection - building new relationships with people from around the globe. If you need a place to stay during the conference, our International Host Committee will make every effort to find you one in the home of a New Yorker. Housing request forms are available on the website.

Additional information about the conference, and forms for registration, housing and financial aid can be found at www.performingtheworld.org.

For any questions please contact conference producer Madelyn Chapman at mchapman@eastsideinstitute.org or 212-941-9400, ext 385.

It takes its name from the ritual burning of a large wooden effigy on Saturday evening. The event is described by many participants as an experiment in community, radical self-expression, and radical self-reliance.

The annual event now known as Burning Man began as a bonfire ritual on the summer solstice in 1986 when Larry Harvey, Jerry James, and a few friends met on Baker Beach in San Francisco and burned an 9-foot (2.7-meter) wooden man as well as a smaller wooden dog. Harvey has described his inspiration for burning these effigy figures as a spontaneous act of radical self-expression.

The event did have earlier roots, though. Sculptor Mary Grauberger, a friend of Harvey's girlfriend Janet Lohr, held solstice bonfire gatherings on Baker Beach for several years prior to 1986, some of which Harvey attended. When Grauberger stopped organizing it, Harvey "picked up the torch and ran with it," so to speak. He and Jerry James built an 8-foot (2.4-meter) wooden effigy for 1986, which was much smaller and more crudely made than the neon lit figure featured in the current ritual. In 1987, the effigy grew to almost 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall, and by 1988 it had grown to around 40 feet (12 meters).

Harvey swears that he did not see the movie The Wicker Man until many years later, so it played no part in his inspiration. Accordingly, rather than allow the name "Wicker Man" to become the name of the ritual, he started using the name "Burning Man".—From Wikipedia

Images source: http://www.papilog.com/

See more 2009 Burning Man Festival photos!

-----------

Burning Life—Celebration of Art, Fire, and community. (Second Life event)

Burning Life is the Second Life version of a real Art, Fire and Community festival called Burning Man. Both Burning Man and Second Life began in San Francisco, California, USA, on planet Earth.

In 1999, Philip Linden went to Burning Man, and came back with new ideas for the virtual world he was planning. Among them was the idea that humans abhor a blank canvas and will compulsively create form to fill void. They will provide their own content and entertainment and create a whole city (or world) when they are given permission and tools to do so. Humans will naturally form community when physical and emotional conditions are harsh and they are wrenched out of their usual comfort zone. Humans are resourceful. The fewer the tools that are available, the more creative and amusing are their solutions to problems of food, shelter, transportation, art, leisure and identity.—From Burning Life, Second Life.

This Second Life event start from noon Oct. 17th, 2009 to Oct. 25th, 2009.
I am working on the affiliation with InSEA now. If you are a member of InSEA, I will need your real name. If you are not member of InSEA, you are still our precious InAEA member! :)

If you would like to be a member of InSEA, you can visit http://www.insea.org/ and look for “membership.”

InAEA is not only in SL, but also on the web. http://www.inaea.org/ You can also be a member of InAEA on the web. If you are a member on the web, you can post articles about SL, art, visual culture or art education related articles in the InAEA website.

We are also working on the InAEA gallery. If you are a member, you also have a chance to have your own gallery in InAEA website. http://www.inaea.org/InAEAgallery.aspx

Discussion:

The whole discussion is about how can we form the constitution, executive officers and/or governing committee or council. We think at this moment we should start to discuss goals and then policies, such as how we elect people in the future, and what their "job descriptions" are.

If you would like to provide any suggestion, please click the “Discussion” or “Contact” to get involved! :)

The Journal of Art for Life is a national, refereed journal focused on art education, art therapy, and arts administration in authentic, real-world contexts toward the goal of social progress through the arts. The journal is based on the instrumentalist premise that art has the power and potential to reflect and enhance the conditions of human experience. Through scholarly articles, the journal is an instrument for communicating the avenues by which the various forms of art intertwine and impact society and social justice.

The journal accepts articles that are theoretical, research-based, and those that address the practical applications of art for life in educational, therapeutic, and other institutional contexts, including museums. We seek social criticism related to art and art education; inquiry into potential areas of exploration regarding art in society, especially focused on social justice and other crucial issues; psychological perspectives, including therapeutic programs which emphasize arts interventions; and investigations into possible roles for arts institutions as cultural organizations that benefit people’s lives. We also seek practical applications, strategies, and position papers about art and its relationship to the enhancement of life for individuals and the societies in which we live, in art education, art therapy and arts administration contexts.

Your students animate 15 seconds of a ball entering the screen, transforming, and exiting the screen.
Finally, I start my dissertation research in Second Life on Oct. 6th. Beside advisor, I also consulted with professors from educational research department, and statistic department. Thanks for everyone who helped me during the preparation time.

I use SurveyMonkey as my survey tool. My survey consent form and the survey actually are two different survey; therefore, these two data will be separate. (As in the article I wrote before.)

For my surveyees’ computer and internet security, my survey account is professional. Even though it is little bit more expensive, but I do care about my surveyees’ privacy.

I know the survey is long. I am really appreciate those people who finish the survey. I understand some people really spend long time on it. THANK YOU!!! Thanks all of you, who tried to finish, and who really finish. I am learning during this process, from all the responds I got. Thanks.

I will write more about research in Second Life after the survey finished. Stay tune! :)

ps. The survey is not finish yet, I will open the survey for 1 month. It will end on Nov. 6th.

The Arts Olympiad begins with structured lesson plans in classrooms worldwide, leads to school art competitions, and culminates in the World Children’s Festival in Washington, DC in June 2011.
The attached Arts Olympiad Lesson Plan for 8- to 12-year-old students requires collaboration between the art teacher and the physical education instructor, so they can break old stereotypes by introducing students to the “artist athlete” ideal of a creative mind and healthy body. The lesson plan can be completed in 2 to 5 class periods in late 2009 or early 2010.

International Child Art Foundation Official Website

<—Click for download the related PDF document!
