Recorded in June and July 2012 by Mike Bridavsky at Russian Recording in Bloomington, IN. Released 8/10/2012 by Defiance, Ohio.

Music Video Directed by Eric Ayotte

lyrics
They'll lock you up if you don't play by the rules.
Twist it out and beat it out of you in a padded room.

So, what do you do with a council full of charlatans
beating on the table with their dirty hands?
This is not an excuse, it's just self defense.
Spit it out.
Come on, let it go.

They don't want no one to drive electric cars.
Spending all the money obuilding rockets that can shoot down all the stars.

I'm against the government, anti-establishment and I love subversive elements.
Might not ever be the president, oh no.

In the late 90's/early 00's, Rumpshaker was the best damn zine you could get your mits on. I was psyched to have such a quality punk document coming out of NYC when I was living there. Rumpshaker stood out from the rest, and so when Eric let me know he was putting out a new issue after a decade long lapse, I was jumping to be a part of it. He wrote a few yuk yuk jokes for 30something punks like he and I and I did my bestest to make them pop! I was really glad that Jeff asked me to put this record up. If you loved the demo, download this. If you didn't, you are a ding dong, and not of the chocolate variety. You can also purchase the record from Salinas Records by clicking here or the link to the left.

Henrys Dress-meets-Superchunk-covering-Fastbacks punk pop

"When I first heard the Swearin demo, I listened to it for 5 hours straight. I was completely blown away. Sometimes a band just wakes you up, you hear the same chords and melodies and beats and ideas all the time and then someone comes along and just has it RIGHT, and you wonder what the fuck everyone else has been doing wrong the whole time. Thats simultaneously the best and worst thing about pop music: its easy and completely accessible to everyone, which means there is a whole hell of a lot of it. The best pop bands can just feel it, its intuitive and natural and it makes them the envy of all the nerds pouring over stacks of records and trying to figure out the trick. Kyle and Allison can write some goddamn songs, and they are blessed with one of the finest rhythm sections around. Its just one of those perfect situations where everyone fits into their role so perfectly that this band with anyone else in it wouldnt be half as good. This new record reaffirms how good they are at Henrys Dress-meets-Superchunk-covering-Fastbacks punk pop, and throws in some tender GBV/Unrest style lo-fi jams for good measure. Thats some heavy name dropping and I dont take that shit lightly. These kids are the real deal." - Sam Cook-Parrott
Blank States was a direct result to the break ups of Wormburner and Victor! Fix The Sun. We threw around the idea for months before finally getting together with Brent from the band Ambassador. It's kind of a play as you can system, sometimes with months between practices, but that's kind of what makes it consistently new and fun. A perfect outlet from everyone's other projects. Ryan does Jowls (Doghouse), Brent does Between Brains, and Kevin's got a band with Alex from Wormburner, John from Shores, and Lance from Empty Orchestra.

Blank States will be out and about doing shows around the Midwest this summer and doing FEST 11.
Maybe more similar to our first record than our recent records. Our take on the "wall of sound." We recorded this last year in Detroit with Andrew Davis. I think both of these songs came out great and I've been really excited about people hearing them!

I missed my dad's 60th birthday party to record this! I'm a horrible son! Download this record so I feel like I made an okay choice last January.

The songs are a lot closer to our first record "Cities We're Not From", with zero saxophone and tons of noise. If you're a fan of Titus Andronicus, you should check it out.

IS THE COMPARISON APPROPRIATE?

Co-released by Answer Key Records and Salinas Records. You can buy it from both of their websites. Choose wisely!
This was one of my favorite records of 2008. The first time I heard it I was on Halo Fauna tour and I instantly fell in love with Little Lungs. Download this record in preparation for their reunion this Friday (3/30/2012) w/ Noun, Swearin' and These Days. The show is a benefit for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. It's at Death By Audio. Click here for more information!

In 2007, I was in a band called Cheeky with 3 friends. Angela Boylan was our drummer. She was (and is) my favorite drummer to play with, but Angie had sort of secretly been writing songs on guitar on her own for years. She had a stockpile of songs she was waiting to play with a band.

Not long after I learned of Angie's secret songs, Little Lungs started practicing. Aside from being our sister/brother band, Little Lungs were some of my closest friends. So I was really excited for it.

I fell in love with the songs while seeing them live, the driving "Pet Cemetery" was my favorite. I still can't help but sing and drum along to every part when I hear it. I was floored when I heard Jacki Sulley's bass parts. They were completely complimentary to Angie's songwriting. Between the three of them, with Josh Wolpert on drums, Little Lungs nailed it.

"Hoist Me Up" is a bunch of lovable, poppy songs. It's pretty straightforward, but Angie gets really noodly and Jacki does too. The songs are about relationships, presumably, anyone can relate to them. During a time when most of my friends were in hardcore bands or pop-punk bands, Little Lungs brought back a sound that evoked my favorite parts of the Get Up Kids, the Weakerthans, and even Jimmy Eat World. All bands I had screamed along to with Angie in her basement bedroom. - Kate Wadkins
