LAS VEGAS (AP)—Manny Pacquiao’s speed and power were way too much for Miguel Cotto’s heart.

Pacquiao put on yet another dominating performance Saturday night, knocking down Cotto twice and turning his face into a bloody mess before finally stopping him at 55 seconds of the 12th round.

The Filipino star used his blazing speed and power from both hands to win his seventh title in seven weight classes and cement his stature as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Cotto took such a beating that his face was a river of red from the fury of Pacquiao’s punches but he refused to quit even as his corner tried to throw in the towel after the 11th round.

The fight was billed as a 145-pound classic, and in the early rounds it didn’t disappoint.The two went after each other with a vengeance and Cotto more than held his own as they traded punches in the center of the ring.

Pacquiao dropped Cotto with a right hand early in the third round, but he wasn’t badly hurt and came back to finish the round strong. But after Pacquiao put Cotto on the canvas with a big left hand as Cotto was advancing forward late in the fourth round, the Puerto Rican was never the same again.

“Our plan was not to hurry but to take our time,” Pacquiao said. “It was a hard fight tonight and I needed time to test his power.”

Cotto fought gamely but in the later rounds he was just trying to survive as blood flowed down his face and Pacquiao kept coming after him relentlessly. It looked as if his corner was trying to stop the fight after the 11th round, but Cotto went back out to take even more punishment before a final flurry along the ropes prompted referee Kenny Bayless to call the fight to an end.

Cotto’s face was swollen, blood was flowing from his nose and his cuts, and he simply couldn’t stop Pacquiao from bouncing inside and throwing both hands at will.

“I didn’t know from where the punches were coming,” Cotto said. “Manny Pacquiao is one of the best boxers I ever fought.”

Pacquiao, coming off of spectacular wins over Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton, added another one against Cotto, who had lost only once and held the WBO version of the welterweight title. Pacquiao did it in trademark fashion, throwing punches in flurries and from all angles until Cotto began to slow down and then pursuing him relentlessly until the fight finally ended.

The fight will likely set up an even bigger fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr., and many in the soldout crowd at the MGM Grand arena began chanting “We want Floyd! We want Floyd” after the fight ended.

“I want to see him fight Mayweather,” trainer Freddie Roach said.

Mayweather may have second thoughts after Pacquiao did what no fighter has done before and win a belt in a seventh weight class. More impressive, though, is how he has fought, dismantling opponents despite moving up consistently from 106 pounds to the 144 he weighed for the fight.

The welterweight ranks will be the last ones Pacquiao conquers, though. He said he will not move up any more in weight.

“This is the last weight division for me,” Pacquiao said. “It’s history for me and more importantly a Filipino did it.

He was so dominant in the later rounds that Cotto was fighting backward most of the way, simply trying to survive. Pacquiao was credited with landing almost twice as many punches—336-172—as Cotto.

Pacquiao earned a minimum $13 million, while Cotto got $7 million

Pacquiao was favored, largely off his last two performances in which he forced De La Hoya to quit on his stool and then knocked out Hatton with a huge left hook in the second round. Some in boxing, including Roach, thought Cotto had been slowed by his devastating loss last year to Antonio Margarito and would be further slowed by having to come in 2 pounds lower than his normal weight.

A young Emirati has turned his passion for Japanese characters, Manga, into a quality, affordable casual dining experience in Dubai. An experiment that provides food lovers of Dubai the true taste of Japan.

Sultan Qassim Sultan, Chief Executive Officer of the Sultan Group Investment LLC and owner of Manga Sushi, has been a self-confessed Manga fan from the time he was eight years old. “I am a great fan of Manga. My mom and dad used to tell me I was just wasting money buying Manga videos and comic collections, which run into 5,000 by now. But, when I started putting my passion of the Japanese characters into something real, my Dad said that I was not wasting money after all.”

Sultan Qassim Sultan: I won’t sacrifice high quality for profit.The 25-year old worked a whole year to conceive, design and detail every tiny aspect of Manga Sushi Restaurant until its launch in November last year. And his passion for his favourite childhood comic characters is reflected all around Manga Sushi Restaurant, on the second floor of Jumeirah Beach Plaza. The walls are bedecked with 500 of his 5,000-piece Manga collection, including comics and print cartoons sometimes called Komikku in Japan in the late 20th century. The Japanese characters painted on the walls, bonsai decorations on the table, and a Japanese feel all over — you could very well have walked into a restaurant in Japan.

Then there is more. Seven smiling servers, dressed in costumes reminiscent of high school girl Haruhi Suzumiya in Manga, bring in your favourite sushi and tempuras. These ladies, together with the chef, put up a special dance performance for diners at 3pm, 7pm, 9pm and 11pm. And if you happen to be celebrating your birthday at the restaurant, they even sing ‘Happy Birthday’ in Japanese.

“The ambience is excellent; very cosy and clean,” says Manga Sushi regular Ziggie Williams, an Australian who works as a manager at Emirates Hospital. She is among the many others who keep going back to Manga Sushi for more.

This, of course, is just the kind of response that Sultan had hoped when he put in Dh2.5 million, to provide a high quality but affordable casual dining option to Dubai residents.

“Not everybody can afford to go to the big hotels, where most sushi restaurants normally operate. I believe that people should get sushi at affordable prices without sacrificing quality. Most important to me is quality service and product even at the cost of profit. I won’t sacrifice high quality for profit.”

Sultan insists on impeccable quality as he believes that it’s not just his name that is at stake, but his family’s as well. “The number one factor for Manga Sushi’s success is my passion for the project. I paid attention to every simple detail of the design, the food, the people serving in this restaurant.”

He spent two months in Japan and 40 days in California, US, to research on sushi and other Japanese delicacies before the launch of Manga Sushi. “Japan has the authentic Japanese sushi, but not all Arabs like the raw Japanese food. I did a great deal of research in California, where many sushi restaurants are already westernised; that helped me merge the two approaches to sushi and come up with something unique in Manga Sushi, a fusion restaurant.”

Arum said Monday that Pacquiao and Cotto will meet in a fight with a 145-pound weight limit on Nov. 14 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on HBO Pay Per View. Pacquiao is a unanimous No. 1 in the Yahoo! Sports poll of the world’s top boxing writers. Cotto is sixth and that alone should make for an intriguing matchup.

Arum, though, likes the style mix between them.

“The significance of this fight is if you know the body of work of these two fighters,” Arum said. “When these guys get into the ring, there will be a confrontation. People who watch know they’ll be entertained. This will sort of be an edge-of-your-seat kind of a fight. It’s an all-action, all-out battle where guys are going to demonstrate toughness, courage and resilience.

“It’s definitely not going to be a boxing exhibition where two guys are running circles around each other. There are some fights that should properly be called boxing matches, but this is one where it’s totally accurate to call it a fight.”

The bout and the date had been long rumored, but the hang-up was getting the men to agree on a weight. Cotto holds the World Boxing Organization welterweight belt and has difficulty going much below 147.

Pacquiao, who still has only had three of his 54 bouts above 130 pounds, preferred it to be as low as possible and no higher than 144. Cotto’s physical trainer said he couldn’t safely fight below 145 pounds and Pacquiao ultimately agreed to the weight.

Arum expects the fight to perform as well at the gate as Pacquiao’s dominating second-round stoppage of Ricky Hatton, which produced $8.9 million in ticket revenue at the MGM Grand Garden, but he’s hopeful it will exceed it in pay-per-view sales.

Pacquiao-Hatton did 850,000 on pay-per-view and Arum believes Pacquiao-Cotto has the potential to surpass that.

“With all due respect to Ricky, I think Cotto, as a great Puerto Rican star, brings a larger fan base in the U.S. audience,” Arum said. “I really think we’ll be able to do north of 850,000 with this one.”

A Brief History

Dubai is the most famous of the seven Emirates that constitute the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The story of ‘modern’ Dubai is relatively short. The Emirate has been established for thousands of years, yet within the last few decades, Dubai has transformed itself into the ambitious, dynamic Emirate we experience today.

In 1894, the introduction of full tax exemption invited traders around the world to take advantage of the Emirate’s unique benefits. In the 1940’s and 50’s, Dubai prospered in the gold trade, providing a strong economy for its 40,000 population.

The opening night of the Yas Marina concerts was a bootylicious affair indeed. Set in the shell of the half-finished Ferrari World, the venue looked spectacular – more like a recreation of the Bladerunner backdrop than a concert venue. The sound, too, was surprisingly good, with any unwanted echo – the curse of vast aerodromes like this one – kept to a minimum. Only the dusty floor and outdoor heat proved difficult.

Beyonce took the stage 25 minutes late, by which point some of the audience had started to turn nasty. Loud boos filled the front of the arena, and, to the side of this reviewer, the heat overwhelmed a couple of fainters and a small fight erupted. Not the kind of atmosphere you might expect at a family-friendly pop concert, but almost understandable after an hour and a half packed in like sweaty sardines.

The fickle crowd forgave and forgot as soon as Beyonce appeared onstage, however, statuesque in a gold lame bodysuit, threatening a wardrobe malfunction with every bump and grind. You’ve probably seen it already on Youtube – the 40,000-strong audience raised and pointed their cameras in unison as soon as the lights dimmed. Time Out ended up watching the opening song on our neighbour’s viewfinder.

With her recent performance in Malaysia apparently cancelled due to religious pressure, many in the Abu Dhabi crowd wondered whether she’d adapt her raunchy show for the UAE. But a Beyonce show wouldn’t be complete without a bit of slap and tickle. Behinds were wielded and pinched throughout the performance, and at one point – dressed in a rather preposterous wedding gown – the singer launched into ‘Ave Maria’, seemingly unconcerned about offending any of the audience. Not that they seemed to care either way. Predictably, the bar filled up during the slower numbers, while other people looked over the pics they’d snapped earlier.

Ultimately, a Beyonce concert is all about the R’n’B funk that she has built her career on, and the hits ‘Crazy in Love’ and ‘Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)’ got the crowd going. The singer herself put in a kilo-busting performance that amazed as much as it shocked, but the biggest cheer of the night was saved for mid-paced rocker, ‘If I Were a Boy’.

Despite the strength of the performance, the crowd began to thin early, many of them concerned about getting back home. The shuttle buses filled quickly while the singer still had several songs left in the bag. Abu Dhabi audiences like their creature comforts, and while the singer worked her behind off onstage, two and a half hours in the dust and heat with a difficult journey home ahead ultimately proved too much for many of her fans.

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama on Saturday doled out presidential M&Ms and dried fruit mixes to more than 2,000 trick-or-treaters, marking their Halloween at a White House event partly aimed at honoring military families.

Dressed as superheroes, pirates, fairies and skeletons, the kids came in with their parents from Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C., and lined up on the orange-lit White House driveway.

DUBAI - People wore their superhero and Disney costumes as they go wild in the party. Bars and pubs are jam packed as clubbers enjoyed the night with lots of treats and tricks.

However, it may be noted that no matter how long your duration of stay in Dubai may be, the UAE government does not confer citizenship on any expatriate.

Ano kayang halaga ng tagumpay sa career if it has been achieved at the expense of the family. What profit does a man have kung mawawala naman ang kanyang pamilya? OO nga, meron siyang salapi na milyon ang halaga, magandang mansyon, travels around the world, and cavorts with an array of girls, women, and ladies, pero naman ang kapalit kung ikaw naman ay being hated by your daughters and is the mortal enemy of your sons. Can success in career really make up for failure at home? Which then is more important, wealth or family. A great number of us would readily say family. Pero totoo kaya na ang ating sinasabi ay ating ginagawa. But do we walk our talk ika nga? Are we willing to translate our mindsets into concrete actions? Day by day, we are bombarded by 52 million dollar questions, Sino ba ang mahalaga ang mga anak ko o ang trabaho ko.

To my fellow employees, I don't know how you react out there or would Answer my questions. In my case, as an accountant who always spend overtime in the office to be able to submit deadline reports come month-end or cut-off period, I have made unforgivable mistakes. If I have to live my life again, I would need to overhaul my priorities, to rechannel the efforts that I Have been exerting with passions and commitment . I thought all along na ang Lahat ng ginagawa kong pagpapahirap at pagtratrabaho to the max to get a promotion, I am doing it all for the family. But I was wrong . Today I know better. When my wife or daughter is on the phone I make sure that I attend to them first, never mind if there are urgent things to attend or papers to submit to my superior, after all they can wait for 10! minutes..... but if I deny the 10 minutes that is so important to them, it would have a lasting effect than to my Boss who might be replaced in a couple of years.

My family is my top priority , period. It is not a choice between my family and my career. MY FAMILY IS THE REASON WHY I NEED A CAREER. My career will come and go, employers can come and go but one's family Will remain even beyond the grave . They even take care of our graves. Noon kahit mayroon affairs sa school ang aking mga anak, I'd tend to preponderate toward the official duty and delegate the affairs of my kids to my wife. I used to operate on the paradigm that I should focus on the duty first before pleasure . Now I know that MY first duty is toward my loved ones. I should put my time where my heart belongs.

Today if I will to do it all over again, I'd reverse my priorities . My son will only graduate once in elementary and only once in high school, I will make sure I will be there, I will file my vacation leave and if my Boss rejected it because I need to attend to a company function where I am required to attend, I would still go to my kids graduation no matter what the consequences are. This time I am willing to become an average corporate officer, a so-so business executive but a great father. I'm willing to be reprimanded by my Boss for a late report but not hated by a daughter for not remembering her birthday every year.....na ilalabas ko siya the whole day and cherish the moments every minute dahil alam ko hindi ko na maibabalik ito kapag lumaki na siya at kung gawin ko man later, baka huli na. There are more important matters compared to corporate business meetings, Family peace and love- these are the ones that matter most.

BUT I SPEAK ONLY FOR MYSELF. I DO NOT IMPOSE VALUES ON YOU GUYS OUT THERE.

If you think possessions are more important than family, go ahead. Spend 20 hours in the office, bring home your corporate work. Neglect your wife.. don't spend quality time with your kids. Don't attend important family gatherings. Find work that you are away for a week and only meet your family every week-ends, oh what a waste. Delegate raising the children to your spouse. Leave the young kids to the nanny. Let the driver brings your kids to school. Ask someone to represent in your son college graduation. If you find something wrong at home, don't mind it, anyway your concentration is in your job. You have your career remember? Don't greet your father and mother on their anniversary. Spend all your time in the company. Baka mawala ang tiwala ng Boss mo sa iyo sayang ang pinagpaguran mo ng matagal. If you have aging parents, don't visit them. enjoy your career in isolation. Drink, dance, be merry, But in the end, you lose all the love ones who love you more, after neglecting! them. You gambled and you lost.

I know of an executive na masyadong depressed... every week lang siyang umuwi sa pamilya niya. Week-ends lang niya nalalaro ang mga bata kung minsan required pa mag-stay ng sabado sa office, who finds no meaning in his life, he's got the money, a beautiful wife who according to him might be hiding something from him (you know what I mean) and the kids are not genuinely closed to him, for no apparent reason he had pulled the trigger to his head. He's got everything and he lost everything. that is the tragedy of it all.

As for me, I know better. After all the pains, the burdens of mistaken priorities, I have made my choice. Anytime, anywhere, my family comes first. My career, my business, my outside clients, all my other pursuits are only means to the end of all my sacrifices, my wife, my sons, my daughters, my family. I shall thus manage my various objectives well. there shall not be conflicting objective anymore. For I now know clearly my prioroties and shall be faithful to them. I shall be willing to give them up; excess money, much comfort, travels, and girls for and in the name of the family. That is simple and straightforward.

PS. Are you aware that if we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days. But the family we left behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than to our own family, an unwise investment indeed, don't you think? SMEs Hold Key To UAE Real Estate Growth

Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) could drive demand for both office space and affordable residential property in the UAE if they can secure bank loans to finance start ups, provide working capital and investment for expansion and growth, according to an industry expert.

“It is widely accepted that SMEs account for approximately 80% of the UAE’s economic activity, which means that collectively they employ a large number of staff, require industrial, commercial and office space and naturally employees need housing. However, they are restricted by a lack of liquidity,” said Mohammed Nimer, CEO of MAG Group Property Development.

According to the Dubai Chamber of Commerce these companies are having trouble securing credit from UAE banks. If they do, the terms are short, usually three to six months and the interest rates for unsecured loans are averaging around 15% due to their perceived high-risk category.

According to Ruwad Establishment, there are over 260,000 trading and industrial companies in the UAE of which over 200,000, are classed as SMEs. The UAE classifies companies according to the number of employees and the level of investment and in general an SME has less than 100 employees with an investment range between AED 200,000 and AED 2 million.

“Imagine the stimulus to the housing market alone if each SME averaged just one new employee per annum, not to mention the benefits to the wider economy – airlines, hotels, restaurants, shopping and so on,” added Nimer.

A Dun & Bradstreet report estimated earlier this year that loan rejection rates were in the range of 50-70% due in part to the bank’s difficulty in gaining access to accurate financial statements and in rare cases the complex and time consuming process of recovering money or liquidating seized assets.

Other statistics of the survey provide equally grim reading. Of those polled, just 25% of small businesses used a secured loan and only 13% had used an unsecured loan, while 45% used an overdraft and 55% a letter of credit facility.

Nimer acknowledged government efforts such as the lowering of minimum investment levels to form a company. He also praised the support provided by institutions like the Mohammed Bin Rashid establishment for Young Business Leaders and the Khalifa Fund.

“However more needs to be done to unlock the potential of the SME sector, banks must relax their lending criteria, SMEs are the backbone of many developed economies and they hold the key to real ecomonic growth in the UAE,” added Nimer.

“IT is interesting to note that SMEs are responsible for 30% and 28% of the US and Japan’s exports respectively. China’s 2 million SMEs have greatly increased their exports and Toyota depends on SMEs to produce 80% of its car parts,” said Nimer.

Nimer applauded the recent initiatives to improve transparency and regulations and agreed that liquidity was not the only hurdle the real estate industry needed to clear.

“The Dubai real estate market in particular has witnessed the more unsavoury side of property development. Financial irregularities, land ownership disputes, cancelled and delayed projects and poor quality finishes,” he said.

Nimer agreed confidence needed to be restored, but added that liquidity was at the root of the problem and would continue to play a critical role.

“Owners and staff of new small businesses with aspirations as owner-occupiers will still need mortgages,” said Nimer.

Having been in business now for 30 years, the MAG Group has an enviable track record of stability and consistency and it is that sort of profile that will new investors will be looking for when the inevitable upturn arrives.

Abu Dhabi: Along with the 2009 Formula One Driver's Championships, the top two spots in the Constructors World Championship have also been snapped up leaving McLaren and Ferrari battling for third place in the final race here in the nation's capital.

While Vodafone McLaren Mercedes (71 points) are currently in third behind Brawn (161) and Red Bull (135.5), Ferrari are just a point behind with 70 points and the two are expected to be locked in a tussle for third place during the Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the Yas Marina Circuit.

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton finished third after being 17th in the starting grid while teammate Heikki Kovalainen finished 9th starting 16th in the Brazilian Grand Prix helping them overtake Ferrari in the team race.

Turning the focus on the season-ender in Abu Dhabi on November 1, Martin Whitmarsh Team principal, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes said: "We may have just overhauled Ferrari in Brazil to move into third place in the constructors' championship, but, being just one point ahead with just one race remaining, means that we go into the Abu Dhabi weekend fully focused on scoring the maximum possible points to consolidate that position."

No let-up
"As usual, there has been no let-up from the team in its preparations. Price to PepsiCo for Not Being in Court: $1.26 Billion

What's the cost of not showing up to court? For PepsiCo Inc., it's a $1.26 billion default judgment. A Wisconsin state court socked the company with the monster award in a case alleging that PepsiCo stole the idea to bottle and sell purified water from two Wisconsin men.

Now the company is scrambling to salvage the situation. The damages award was handed down on Sept. 30. PepsiCo filed motions to vacate the order and dismiss the claims on Oct. 13, saying it wasn't even aware of the lawsuit until Oct. 6.

The litigation began in April when Charles Joyce and James Voigt sued the soft drink maker and two of its distributors, alleging they had misappropriated trade secrets from confidential discussions the plaintiffs had with the distributors in 1981 about selling purified water. The information was illicitly passed to PepsiCo, which used it to develop and sell Aquafina bottled water, the plaintiffs allege in the case filed in the Circuit Court of Jefferson County before Judge Jacqueline Erwin.

In court documents, PepsiCo argues it was improperly served with the Wisconsin lawsuit in North Carolina, but also asks the court to excuse the corporate bureaucracy that buried a legal document for weeks. While plaintiffs say they served the lawsuit in June on PepsiCo's registered agent in North Carolina, where the company is incorporated, PepsiCo says its law department at the company's Purchase, N.Y.-based headquarters was not notified until September.

"The bottom line is there was a defect in the process for us, but also for" the plaintiffs, said PepsiCo spokesman Joe Jacuzzi, who called the case "highly dubious."

Robert Roth, a lawyer for PepsiCo at Menomonee, Wis.-based Niebler, Pyzyk, Roth & Carrig, couldn't be reached for comment. Another lawyer for PepsiCo, Dean Panos, a partner at Chicago-based Jenner & Block, declined to comment.

In court papers, PepsiCo claims it first received a legal document related to the case from the North Carolina agent on Sept. 15 when a copy of a co-defendant's letter was forwarded to Deputy General Counsel Tom Tamoney in PepsiCo's law department. Tamoney's secretary, Kathy Henry, put the letter aside and didn't tell anyone about it because she was "so busy preparing for a board meeting," PepsiCo said in its Oct. 13 motion to vacate.

When Henry received a forwarded copy of the plaintiff's motion for default judgment on Oct. 5, she sent that to Yvonne Mazza, a legal assistant for Aquafina matters. Remembering that she still had the other document, Henry passed it to Mazza too. The next day Mazza sent the documents to David Wexler, a department attorney, and he "immediately" called the agent to get a copy of the complaint.

Lawyers for PepsiCo distributors Wis-Pak Inc. and Carolina Canners Inc. made court appearances in June and July. PepsiCo was at a loss to explain why it hadn't heard about the case from them. "It's just another unfortunate thing that didn't come together," Jacuzzi said.

In seeking to dismiss the case, PepsiCo argues that the statute of limitations should preclude the lawsuit, brought 15 years after the company started selling Aquafina and more than two decades after the alleged confidential talks. Moreover, "the $1.26 billion judgment that has been entered is unprecedented in size and justice requires that PepsiCo have a chance to defend itself," the company said.

The lead plaintiffs lawyer, David Van Dyke of Chicago-based Cassiday Schade, said Wisconsin courts have been "pretty clear that they don't like" vacating default judgments. "There is a possibly that a judge may say we're going to litigate the damages aspect of it," Van Dyke said.

A hearing is scheduled for Nov. 6.
