A book that explains quality. True quality, as present in the smallest bolt to the overall industrial design, software and interaction of the product. I have no doubt Apple was found on the concept of quality as defined in this classic. What is confusing is why in electronics so few other companies are.

The appleTV is the iPhone for the living room. Its a relatively inexpensive but powerful piece of hardware capable of video, audio, and graphics. Like the iPhone platform, a Software Development Kit for the AppleTV could bring an explosion of uses. This includes gaming using various controllers including the iPhone, simple widget information applications like news headlines, video chat, social network updates and new living room experiences.

Importantly, and unlike like other devices connected to the TV, the appleTV is already super simple to use. It can be extended with peripherals that allow greater interaction, but at its core its extremely simple. This core feature would give it greater acceptance as a device used by all family members. This idea.wirus article will explore the potential of a Software Development Kit for the AppleTV.

"Every once in a while a revolutionary product comes along that changes everything. One is very fortunate if you get to work on just one of these in your career. Apple has been very fortunate that it's been able to introduce a few of these into the world. In 1984 we introduced the Macintosh. It didn't just change Apple, it changed the whole industry. In 2001 we introduced the first iPod, and it didn't just change the way we all listened to music, it changed the entire music industry...."

The goal of this Paper GUI is to allow complete focus on the task at hand by removing the GUI elements when they are not needed. It would clean up the interface allowing focus on the current document, and allow faster access to tools and menu options by taking advantage of the current position of the cursor.

Trackpad gestures now offer quicker access to GUI functions traditionally served by the edges of the screen. This includes scrolling with two fingers instead of aiming for the scroll bar at the side of a window, and swiping three fingers to change applications. What if this progression was taken all the way, and a combination of new window layers and track pad use allowed access to all application features and toolbars? As a bonus it makes the GUI work perfect with a tablet.

Public squares serve as a gathering place for the community. They provide people with the opportunity to share common interests, a quiet space, or a place to discover new events and ideas. Much the same, modern technologies, such as online networks and mobile devices, have brought people together albeit in a much different medium. However, these technologies have been criticized for keeping people apart as often as they have been commended for connecting people. The Future Space Public Square proposes to unite the traditional and physical attributes of the town square with the novel attributes of electronic social networking. The square itself will act as a network hub to draw people into the area and its various activities while honoring traditional uses.
