Winston (Woody) Richardson (8P6CC) age 97 a Founder Member and First Secretary Treasurer of the Amateur Radio Society of Barbados,  was honoured on Wednesday April 18Th 2012 for Exemplary Service to The Development of Amateur Radio in Barbados. He was presented with a plaque by Secretary/Treasurer Michael Williams (8P6MT)

Winston (Woody) Richardson (8P6CC) de 97 años de edad, uno de los miembros fundadores y primer Secretario – Tesorero de la Sociedad de Radioaficionados de Barbados, fue honrado el miércoles 18 de abril de 2012 por su servicio ejemplar al desarrollo de la Radioafición en Barbados.  Se le entregó una placa por parte del Secretario – Tesorero, Michael Williams (8P6MT).

IARU Región 2 felicita al Sr. Richardson por su labor en pro de la radioafición en Barbados al igual que a  nuestra sociedad miembro en dicho país por su aniversario.

The recently formed “Group of Amateurs for Satellite Operations” (abbreviated GROS in Spanish) of the FRC has been promoting radio activity through amateur radio satellites, since Friday, April 13, holding a discussion board through the VHF repeater located at Pico San Juan, which provides coverage to CO zones 4, 5, 6, 7 and part of CO8. Héctor, CO6CBF, with a lecture on GROS, the history of amateur radio satellites, active satellites, requirements and the implementation of domestic solutions for satellite operation, among other subjects.

On Saturday, April 14, simultaneous conferences were held in the cities of Havana and Camagüey, led by Raydel, CM2ESP, and Pavel, CO7WT, respectively, promoting the work of GROS, a brief summary of amateur radio satellites, space mechanics and the use of the ISS for digital communications, among other subjects.

On April 14 and 15, with the holding of the traditional “Victoria de Girón” national phone contest in the 160, 80 and 40-meter bands, more than one hundred stations of the three license categories in Cuba participated. A special 8-hour CW session within it promotes the use of that mode in QSOs.

On Wednesday, April 18, there is the announcement of the “Centennial Certificate”, to commemorate the birth of radio amateur Mario Muñoz Monroy, CO5MM, a martyr of the independence struggle in Cuba, valid for those that work 100 Cuban stations in the 160, 80 and 40-meter bands in the 100 days between April 18 and July 26 of 2012. No QSL cards are needed, but the log must be attached to the application.

Specifically on April 18, a special and unique version of Diploma CUBA, satellite version, is announced, awarded for working the 8 Cuban CM/CO/T41-CM/CO/T48 districts during April 18, 19, 20 and 21, via satellite. Collective CM/CO/T49 stations and special CM/CO/T4Ø stations can be used to substitute a district. No QSL cards are needed for this diploma, only a detail of the stations contacted, indicating date, time, station worked, satellite used and locator received. Valid for Cuban and foreign stations with the same general rules of FRC Diplomas (http://frc.co.cu)

On Saturday, April 12, starting at 10:00 am, a joint exercise will be held by FRC –National Civilian Defense, called “Radio-2012“, simulating the use of digital communications in emergency situations (a large earthquake) with the main participation in the provinces of Santiago de Cuba, Granma, Camagüey, La Habana and Pinar del Río.

On the same day, April 21, special station T4ØIARU will be active from the cities of Havana (EL83), Cienfuegos (EL92) and Camagüey (FL11), in satellites ISS, AO-07, AO-27, FO-29, SO-50 and VO-52, to culminate the activities of FRC for this important event.

El recién constituido “Grupo de Radioaficionados para Operaciones Satelitales” (GROS) de la FRC viene promocionando la actividad radial a través de los satélites de radioaficionados, desde el viernes 13 de Abril con la realización de un conversatorio a través del repetidor de VHF ubicado en el Pico San Juan, que da cobertura a las zonas CO 4, 5, 6, 7 y parte de la 8. Héctor CO6CBF disertando sobre: el GROS, la historia de los satélites de aficionados, los satélites activos, requerimientos y la implementación  de soluciones domesticas para su operación, entre otros tópicos.

El sábado 14 de abril, al mismo tiempo, se celebran sendas conferencias en las ciudades de La Habana y Camagüey, conducidas por CM2ESP Raydel y CO7WT Pavel, respectivamente, promocionando la labor del GROS, una breve reseña de los satélites de radioaficionados, la mecánica espacial y la utilización de la ISS para comunicaciones digitales, entre otros tópicos.

Los días 14 y 15 de abril  con la realización del tradicional concurso nacional ”Victoria de Girón”, de fonía, en las bandas de 160, 80 y 40M, se movilizan más de un centenar de estaciones de las tres categorías de licencias existentes en Cuba. Una sesión especial de CW de ocho horas dentro del mismo, promueve la realización de QSOs en esa modalidad.

El miércoles 18 de abril, tiene lugar la proclamación del “Certificado del Centenario” por el natalicio del radioaficionado CO5MM Mario Muñoz Monroy, mártir de las luchas por la independencia de Cuba, valido por trabajar 100 estaciones cubanas en las bandas de 160, 80 y 40M, en los cien días que median desde el 18 de abril al 26 de julio de 2012. No se necesitan tarjetas QSL, sino presentar el log anexo de la solicitud.

El propio día 18, se proclama, una edición especial y única, del Diploma CUBA, versión satelital, otorgándolo por trabajar los 8 distritos cubanos CM/CO/T41-CM/CO/T48, durante los días 18, 19, 20 y 21 de abril, a través de satélites. Las estaciones colectivas CM/CO/T49 y especiales CM/CO/T4Ø sirven para sustituir un distrito. No se necesitan tarjetas QSL para este Diploma, solo la relación de las estaciones contactadas indicando: fecha, hora, indicativo trabajado, satélite utilizado y locator recibido. Válido para estaciones cubanas y extranjeras con las mismas reglas generales de los Diplomas de la FRC (http://frc.co.cu)

El sábado 21 de abril desde las 10 de la mañana se realizará el Ejercicio conjunto FRC -Defensa Civil Nacional  ”Radio-2012“, simulando el uso de comunicaciones digitales en situaciones de emergencias (sismo de gran intensidad) con participación principal de las provincias de Santiago de Cuba, Granma, Camagüey, La Habana y Pinar del Río.

El  mismo día 21 de abril la estación especial T4ØIARU estará activa desde las ciudades de La Habana (EL83), Cienfuegos (EL92) y Camagüey (FL11), en los satélites ISS, AO-07, AO-27, FO-29, SO-50 y VO-52, culminando las actividades de la FRC por la efemérides.
