i guess it's pretty official: the holidays are here. although i'm thankful for you readers and supporters every day, i'd like to tell you so now: i am thankful for you, readers and supporters, every day. even when i disappear for days (or weeks) at a time. and especially when i think about throwing in the towel. thank you for reminding me why i keep going and inspiring me to go further.

i'm working on something new (a kind of grown-up greedy girl) and i hope you'll stick around long enough for me to debut that.

until then, happy thanksgiving to all my american friends. we are heading to santa fe for the holiday, and i can't wait.

for everyone, i'll be starting up my gift guides next week. but for those of you in the oklahoma city area, below i've included a few of my favorite shops (and one thing that's new and exciting). you could stick to this list (or even just one or two spots) and get all your shopping done in a day. i promise.

SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY IN OKLAHOMA CITY

SABI, 3703 n western ave.: whenever i'm in a down-to-the-wire gift crisis, i know sabi will save me. the shop is full of curious little knick-knacks—old and new—that you never thought you needed, plus incredible soaps, books, scarves and antiques from around the world.

URBANE, 4209 n western ave.: this one recently opened up just up the street from us. you could probably cross everyone off your list in single stop here: baxter of california and ursa major for the guys, tokyomilk and ecoya candles (i'm obsessed with this one) for the ladies, tokyobay watches for me, and barware or izola flasks for everyone else. plus, i hear urbane will be open thanksgiving night for those of you looking to escape familial obligations. (shopping sustenance: the wedge, 47th and western, for some of the best wood-fired pizza in the city.)

SHOP GOOD, 3 nw 9th st.: this place never disappoints. never. they're the best hammerpress stockist in town, for one, and they carry a lot of the things we used to look for in other cities, like juniper ridge products and more warby parker specs than you could ever need. (shopping sustenance: s&b for sliders and beer galore, or iguana for tacos and pomegranate margaritas; s&b is across the street, and iguana is just two doors down. afterwards, pick up a cupcake and some ice-cold milk at sara sara, right next door.)

COLLECTED THREAD and DNA GALLERIES, 1705 nw 16th st.: these neighbors in the plaza district are all about local artists, designers and crafters. they're two separate shops but they're a lot like a brick & mortar etsy right in the heart of oklahoma city. (shopping sustenance: the mule, across the street, for beer, poutine and a big-ass grilled cheese—no, really. that is its name.)

POP-UP SHOPS AT MYRIAD BOTANICAL GARDENS, s robinson & reno avenues: opening friday are the pop-up shops at myriad gardens—that allison is brilliant! i can't wait to stop in for some ice skating and shopping. see the full schedule here (it includes shops from sara kate studios and pencil shavings studio*, plus the aforementioned urbane). (shopping sustenance: flint, at sheridan & robinson. if you're there early enough, try out the lemon ricotta pancakes. or, try out the cafe that also pops up friday at the gardens.)

i know, i know... i've already harped on the brilliance that is everlane. but, truth be told, i haven't ventured beyond their basic cotton tee. every time i'm on the site, i add one of these ryan tees to my bag. then i remember they require dry cleaning, and out they go.

i'm a simple girl, and dry cleaning on a regular basis is not my thing. so, i'm asking you... have you tried any of these other styles from them? i'm not above hand-washing—could i get away with that?

any tips are appreciated!

i recently took the plunge and traded my ashy blonde (aka boring) locks for a foxy copper... and it's really fun! it's been a couple of weeks, and it's already faded a ton—it was a lot like no. 3, above, at first (now, it's probably more like no. 2).

i'm looking for some good products to help maintain the red. do you have any recommendations? i've been intrigued by davines for a while. i choose hair products like i choose wine—by the label—and love the look of the 'for wizards' line, but haven't tried any of the products yet. this alchemic shampoo in copper is looking pretty tempting.

i'd love to know what anyone thinks or recommends.

i'm continuing to struggle with this back-to-basics concept but maybe i'm a making a little progress. but maybe not. see, it's a struggle. i did finally reward myself for surviving a broken foot (and awful air boot) with a pair of safe and sturdy palladiums. no falling down the stairs in those... yet.

anyway, don't you want to steal the above look? i swapped the black cons for my new favorites, but scotch & soda just gets it right every time.

hey laaaadies. it's that time again, if you can believe it. i hope you've enjoyed 288 days of a fantastic 2012 calendar, but it's time to start thinking about a new year.

as in years past, we'll get ready for 2013 with a fun little project. i started the calendar swap in 2008 and have teamed up with kelly of design crush the last four years. it's been a big success. hundreds of calendars have criss-crossed the country and the world. it's always exciting to see who signs up and where they're from.

think you might be interested? here are the details...

by nov. 5 (that’s a monday), email calendarswap@gmail.com and tell us the following:
… your name
… your email address
… the name of your blog (if you have one) AND the name of your favorite blog
… your street address
… whether you prefer an international or in country swapmate – or does it matter?
… are you interested in sending (and receiving) more than one calendar (from different swappers)? if so, how many?

we’ll pair you up and send your swapmate’s details on or around nov. 12.
you MUST have your calendar sent by dec. 5.

here are some things to keep in mind:

VALUE. keep your calendar between $20 and $30. and, since there are some perfectly lovely and super-affordable calendars out there, you might try throwing in a few small goodies if the calendar’s value doesn’t quite add up. also, handmade is great—just remember the suggested value.

SHIPPING. if you choose to have an international swapmate, don’t forget it will cost you a little bit more (a few dollars, maybe) to ship your calendar.

CONSIDERATION. check out your swapmate’s website or blog, or consider getting to know his or her tastes via e-mail, to get an idea of what he or she might like.

TIMELINESS. please, please, please send your calendar on time.

i've been trying in the last year or so to really pare down my closet. i want just the basics. easy, comfortable things that can be dressed up or down.

in a super-ideal world, i'd own five black t-shirts, a few pairs of jeans, a pair of black pants and nothing else. i'd look like this. exactly like that. i'd be eight inches taller and have the tiniest ankles.

more realistically, i could probably swing 10 t-shirts in a mix of long- and short-sleeve and in black, gray and white. plus a few pair of jeans and pants, a black knit pencil skirt, a thick sweater or two and a good, sturdy jacket. this is what i'm striving for. more like this. (and still eight inches taller with tiny ankles.)

in short, i'm trying to get in the habit of a uniform. all the time, i'm editing down my wardrobe. i've made a lot of progress in the last couple of years (and realized how much money i've wasted on things i didn't really want), but still have so far to go.

what keeps me sane in all of this is allowing myself to have fun with printed scarves and bright, bold shoes. and, there are some patterns i just can't let go of—dresses and skirts that would be irreplaceable—so i give myself a bit of wiggle room in the summer.

in my search for the perfect basics, i've been excited to discover everlane. i love that concept, and it's a lot more affordable than a closet full of t by alexander wang (though OH MY GOD i'd die for that).

another affordable option is gap's super-cozy pure collection. and, of course, another favorite (for a looong time) is alternative apparel—i've loved everything i've ever owned from there.

what about you? do you have any knits/tees/basics you can't live without? i'd love any suggestions on things to check out.

heather is a line i came across tonight... perfect, simple knitwear. the looks above are a few of my favorites, and while the dresses might not fit in with my wardrobe plans (beautiful as they may be), that jacket certainly qualifies.

i came across these sweet studs over the weekend... while they're clearly adorable (they have tiny bejeweled eyes), those little legs and antennae are downright dangerous. i pierced my finger with one this morning when i was (very carefully) putting them in.

i'm trying to pare down my wardrobe and add to my accessories inventory. what are your favorite sources for jewelry, scarves, etc.? i'd love to broaden my horizons, so please share.

like i said recently, it's that time of year again: new glasses time.

i hadn't looked at lookmatic's selection in a while, but today i was happy to find a couple cat eye-inspired styles, as well as a few more i wouldn't mind having.

i think i'm set on the tippi, seen at the very top. but i'm also kind of tempted by the shelby (super catty!) and the austin.

the deal clincher? the coupons today on fab: non-rx sunglasses (regularly $65) are $34, and you can snag a pair of prescription frames (regularly $95) for $48. so, you know, if it's that time of the year for you, too, i'd go check that out.

*this balm/stain is the best thing i've discovered in a long time. it lasts forever (i woke up the other morning and kind of scared myself when i looked in the mirror—my lips were still as bright and pink as the night before), and it costs under $8, PLUS it makes me look just like emma stone. ... oook, that was a little game of '2 truths and a lie.' anyway, go buy it.
