Microsoft released yet another commercial comparing Surface with iPad.

The latest commercial compares the Asus Vivo Tab with Apple iPad. Comparison is focused more on thickness, light weight, multi tasking. And of course, the micro SD card adapter, and printing.

However the commercial doesn't compare with iPad features like Retina display, AppStore, performance and design.

It's just another Microsoft commercial :-)
Yahoo, launched the new, redesigned Flickr on May 20, 2013. Eight years after buying Flickr, Yahoo started something better with Flickr. Not only just redesigning the existing Flickr, now Flickr also offer 1 TB of Free space. Yes, It's hard to believe.

A whooping 1 TB of space is an enormous gift to users who would like to backup their photos online, that too with high resolution original photos. 1 TB is a huge space to organize. However, we can still try to organize them. These days, people are very much interested in uploading pics from their mobile to Instagram, Facebook with small resolution. I am one of them too :-).

An all-in-one home entertainment device.

Gamers have been eagerly anticipating the launch of Microsoft's next generation Xbox console, and today they finally got what they've been waiting for. Microsoft's next console, previously referred to as Durango and Xbox 720, was introduced to the world as Xbox One, a name that underscores Microsoft's intent to rule the living room with an all-in-one entertainment system that's equally adept at playing games as it is for watching live TV, chatting on Skype, browsing photos and videos, and more. The device itself looks rather large and almost VCR-like.
Microsoft's Don Mattrick took to the stage and talked about how the living room has become "too complex, too fragmented, and too slow." The Xbox One is Microsoft's answer to these problems, and much of the magic of the new console has to do with intelligent voice recognition and gesture control.

Navigation

Yusuf Mehdi, senior vice president of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business, demoed several of Xbox One's navigation features. One of big differences between the Xbox One and 360 is that the console recognizes who you are right off the bat. Say "Xbox On" and it will turn on your device and launch straight into your custom profile with your personalized home screen. It will also remember what you were last doing, in case you wanted to jump back into a game or movie that you had to duck out of prematurely.
One of the most impressive demos was Mehdi showing how quickly and smoothly the Xbox One can switch between tasks, going from Internet Explorer ("Xbox Internet Explorer!") to watching movies ("Xbox movie!") and live TV. It will be interesting to see what kind of relationship Microsoft and the Xbox One has with cable providers. It can also, of course, play games. The Xbox One recognizes gestures, too. Reach out your arms, grab, and close to bring up the Home screen, or expand to go back to where you just came from.
A new Snap Mode allows you to multi-task, to an extent. While you're watching a movie, for example, you can have Skype running in a sidebar on the right or look up content on the web via IE.

Live TV figures to be a prominent feature of the Xbox One. Say "Show the guide" to bring up a listing of TV shows and then navigate through voice control, by browsing favorites, or by seeing what's "Trending," which is a new tab added to the Dashboard. If you're bored with your program, you can say "What's on HBO?" and Xbox One will respond with a listing of shows and movies on HBO.

What About the Hardware?

As for the hardware, well, the Xbox One will rock an 8-core CPU with 5 billion transistors, 8GB of system memory, 500GB hard drive, Blu-ray drive (yes, the Xbox is finally getting Blu-ray!), 802.11n Wi-Fi, HDMI in/output, and USB 3.0 support. Beyond that, it's not clear if that RAM will be unified like it is on the PlayStation 4 or which exact processor and GPU Microsoft is tapping into, or whether it will be x86 based like Sony's console. We suspect those details will come to light in the coming months, and potentially at E3, where Microsoft will make several Xbox 360 announcements.
On the platform side, Microsoft described a three-in-one OS architecture:

Xbox software that gives developers deep access to the sysem and hardware

A Windows kernel

Special software to connect the two above OSes

Following the press conference, Nvidia revealed to us that the company will offer the console PhysX support. Whether that is on the GPU side or CPU side is still up in the air. Maximum PC has tried reaching out to Nvidia for more clarification on the matter to only recieve a "no comment" reply. Regardless, with PhysX support coming to the Xbox One, this will be especially interesting as earlier rumors pegged the Xbox One as using AMD components for both the CPU and GPU. This could theoretically mean the green and red team may be collaborating on the console in some capacity.
UPDATE: AMD has confirmed it is indeed designing an APU for the Xbox One. “AMD is very excited to be working with Microsoft on their next-generation Xbox One. The Microsoft Xbox One leverages a single-chip, semi-custom AMD APU, with custom components co-developed with Microsoft designed to enable unique attributes of the system Microsoft is bringing to market,” said Saeid Moshkelani, corporate vice president and general manager of AMD's Semi-Custom Business Unit.

Updated Kinect Sensor and Controller

A new Kinect sensor will be paired with every Xbox One console. It expands to 1080p, can read more joints than before, understands subtle movements like a flick of the wrist, and can even detect your heartbeat when exercising. Microsoft also updated the familiar controller so that it's more ergonomic, though retains the same semi-butterfly shape as previous versions.

Xbox Live

Sorry folks, Microsoft isn't giving up its subscription-based Xbox Live service in favor of free online play for everyone. The same memberships as today will exist, though the backend infrastructure is significantly overhauled. While today's Xbox Live service taps into 15,000 servers, there will be 300,000 servers powering Xbox One's Live service.
Microsoft will put that horsepower to use in part for better matchmaking. It will search for opponents in one game while you're playing another, and overall, Microsoft envisions a deeper, richer Live experience.

Call of Duty: Ghosts

Finally, Call of Duty: Ghosts made an appearance towards the end of the event. Microsoft announced that will continue its exclusive downloadable content (DLC) deal with Activision, ensuring Xbox One gamers get DLC before gamers on other devices.
There's a new game engine being introduced in Ghosts. It will run at a steady 60 frames per second while you control new characters in a new game world. The script is being hammered out by Stephen Gaghan, writer of Traffic and Syriana.
Dogs will be part of your squad and are able protect your team and sniff for explosives. Other animals, like fish, will move out of your way as you get close, which is part of a new artificial intelligence (A.I.) system. There will be dynamic events like earthquakes, and player-driven events too. You'll be able to customize your characters in multiplayer, choosing heads, bodies, helmets, and other gear.
"It will be the best Call of Duty game we've ever ever made," Activision's Erik Hirschberg declared.
That wraps up the highlights. Microsoft didn't announce a price or release date, instead confirming what we already know, which is that Xbox One will be available "later this year."
What did you think of the announcement? Are you as bummed as we are that more hardware details weren't revealed? Let us know in the comments!
Most of us are very much used to Google Reader. Now that Google officially announced that, Google Reader will be shutting down by July 1, 2013. I started looking for the alternatives. There are many feed readers available, but they are not as good as Google Reader.

I was using Pulse on my iPhone 5. However it was more of images, rather than text. The same on desktop browser.

After further searching, I found Prismatic. It's a cool app for iPhone 5. Also it's available on the web browser too. It has a neat and clean UI, rich text, etc.,

If you do a lot of scheduling over email, it's now a little bit easier to create events directly from your Gmail. Starting today, dates and times within emails are lightly underlined: click them to schedule that conference call or lunch date without ever leaving Gmail.

When you click on one of these underlined dates, you’ll be able to preview your schedule for the day and change the title, date or time of the event. Clicking “Add to Calendar” will do exactly that -- add the event to your calendar, and for extra convenience, the calendar event will include a link back to the original email.

This new feature is rolling out over the next week to everyone with the English (US) language. We'll be adding other languages soon, so stay tuned.

Mailbox..!! The much awaited and hyped email app for iOS is now available in the AppStore. Instead of saying its available, I would say its partially available.

The reason is because, we won't be able to use the app now. Mailbox is currently making reservations. Company is going to serve on the first come first serve basis.

The only way to reserve is by downloading the app on your iPhone. Once after downloading, you will be seeing option to reserve. Once done, it will be showing how many people are infront of you and also how many are behind you.

Features of Mailbox:
The fast, fun mobile inbox that puts email in its place.

CURRENTLY FILLING RESERVATIONS ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVE BASIS.

Download Mailbox to reserve your spot, then watch the line move. For details on the reservation system visit http://mailboxapp.com/reservations.

Note: Currently for Gmail only. Other email platforms coming soon.

Mailbox is a completely redesigned inbox that makes email light, fast, and mobile-friendly. Quickly swipe messages to your archive or trash. Scan an entire conversation at once with chat-like organization. Snooze emails until later with the tap of a button — they’ll return to your inbox automatically so you can focus on what's important now.

Mailbox checks your email from the cloud, then delivers it to your phone securely. You can even get push notifications for new messages. Add all your GMail accounts for speedy access on-the-go.Mailbox makes getting to zero — and staying there — a breeze. After you experience a clean inbox, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.

Apple just pushed out an improved version of its desktop media player / content hub, bringing the version number up to 11. It was originally presumed that iTunes 11 would drop alongside the iPhone 5, iPad mini or the 4th-gen iPad, but instead, it has been released after many delays.

As well as feeling a lot lighter than it has ever done, some work has gone into reshaping the look of the App Store, as well as iTunes itself.
Although the rise and rise of the iPod, then iPhone, then iPad has seen iTunes downloaded hundreds of millions of times, it has struggled to shake off its label as a slow, resource-hog of an app, and with a big update now upon us, it looks as though Apple has gone some way into fixing up its 10+ year old jukebox.

A completely redesigned player. A newly remodeled store. And even more iCloud features. The new iTunes looks easy, because it is easy.
Originally announced at Apple’s fall media event for iPhone 5, from an aesthetic point of view, iTunes has scarcely changed – despite rigorous improvements to the products themselves, and although the iTunes App Store boasts a wealth of content, locating and navigating through content has not been as slick as it should be. Things have changed with iTunes 11, though, with both iTunes and the iTunes Store offering a revamped user interface, similar to what we have in iOS 6.

As well as the new look, there are several features for iTunes fans to sink their teeth into, including improved support for iCloud, the all-new unobtrusive mini-player with quick access to music controls and a much more simpler and revamped UI.

Personally, I’m really liking the iPad-esque new interface, and if you ever needed an inclination as to which direction OS X is heading from a visual aspect, I believe iTunes 11 encapsulates Apple’s goal.

If you wish to grab the very latest iTunes update, you can do so right now by heading over to Apple’s official site for iTunes. Alternatively, you can go down the Software Update within iTunes, which is the preferred option for the vast majority.

There’s a growing concern that Redmond-based Microsoft is not achieving the kind of orders it had initially hoped or expected of its Surface RT, and it’s now looking like the company’s orders are petering out – as opposed to increasing – in the run-up to Christmas. CEO Steve Ballmer’s note of "modest" sales at launch has done very little to instill confidence recently, and to compound the situation, upstream supply chain sources have revealed the software maker has reduced orders of the Surface RT by half.

If true, the news teeters dangerously close to catastrophic, and although nobody presumed the Surface would outsell the big-name devices this Fall, Microsoft will be alarmed by what looks to have been an unexpectedly slow start. After all, if the biggest name in the company uses the word "modest" to describe sales of a very, very important product, it’s more than likely the sales have been nearer the "poor" end of the spectrum.

The Surface, which packs in a 10.6-inch touch display, has quite a few things going for it. Aesthetically, you couldn’t say it’s any less beautiful than the market-leading iPad from Apple, and if you like 16:9 displays, sharp edges, and connecting various USB peripherals, the new, Windows RT-packing tablet is a great option.

However, it’s those two hard-hitting, inconspicuously significant letters – "RT" – that I think go some way to explaining the mediocrity in sales of the Surface hitherto. While the Surface Pro – scheduled to release in January – will run on Intel processors and a full version of Windows 8, the RT iteration runs on an ARM-based NVIDIA Tegra quad-core processor. Clocked at 1.3GHz, it’s not a bad little runner, but it lacks one key skill – the ability to run legacy apps.

So, considering how Surface Pro delivers a full-blown desktop experience, it’s a good idea to churn out a few extra bucks and go with the Surface Pro instead. Priced at $899 and $999 for the 64GB and 128GB models respectively, it’s not cheap, but if you take into account how much it has to offer along with portability, then it’s definitely the go-to solution for your desktop replacement needs.

Perhaps not such a big deal to some, the lack of support for those apps PC users have come to rely on provides the Surface RT (and Windows RT) with a major setback. The fact that the Surface has been marketed as a hybrid is somewhat misleading to some, because save for the bundled, unfinished Office 2013, there’s really not a great deal to get excited about if you’re looking to use the Surface RT as some kind of notebook replacement – Touch / Type Cover or not.

Time will tell as to whether the Surface RT does have a market, but with little interest thus far, and the prospect of rich app support not looking too promising, the immediate future of the one-month-old device does look rather bleak.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple is ready to finally push iTunes 11 right out of the gate Thursday, November 29. Apple delayed the software for a month because the redesigned media player was “taking longer than expected” and the company wanted to “take a little extra time to get it right”. The Journal reports that the new iTunes has been delayed due to unspecified “engineering issues” that apparently required parts to be rebuilt…

Mentioning that Eddy Cue, 48, Apple’s SVP of Internet Software and Services, has risen as “a prime architect of Apple’s software strategy” and “one of the most important product voices”, author Jessica E. Lessin writes for the Journal:

This week, Mr. Cue faces a test of how well Apple can keep up in online services with the launch of a new desktop version of iTunes, which is expected as soon as Thursday.

There you have it.
Considering The Wall Street Journal is Apple’s unofficial mouthpiece, it’s now fairly safe to assume that Apple indeed will keep its promise of launching the redesigned jukebox software before the end of November.
Feiyr, a digital music distribution service which acts as an interface between rights owners and digital retailers, last week advised its members that iTunes 11 “is about to be released within the next days”.
According to Feiyr’s email communication, the software will feature redesigned artist pages with pictures and nice photo galleries. Apple’s iTunes 11 promo page briefly mentions several other features, such as a new mini player, improved iCloud integration, new library and expanded views and more.

iTunes now features simplified views of exactly what you want. Looking for an album? Click Music and that’s all you’ll see. Do the same for movies, TV shows, apps — and everything else. It’s browsing made more intuitive.

This is how the new library view looks like.

As for the expanded view of your music:

Select one of your albums and now it will expand in place. That means you can see all the songs on the album, click Play, and keep right on browsing without having to click back to your library. You’ll also see In the Store recommendations for similar albums you’ll want to check out.

I have my doubts about merging my own music and the iTunes Store content, seen below.
Apple also teases bonus features, such as In the Store recommendations, the Up Next feature letting you queue songs, the Preview History button for a quick rundown of all the iTunes Store media you’ve sampled and more.
The new iTunes was originally scheduled to debut in October, per Apple’s executives who set the release date publicly during September’s iPad mini media event.
The WSJ story goes on to note that Cue, previously profiled as Apple’s Mr. Fixer, is“proceeding cautiously” with the rumored Apple-branded music streaming service. iTunes 11, according to sources, is more closely integrated with iCloud “and resembles the mobile version”.
The report paints Cue, who also handles media deals with content owners, largely in favorable light:

Mr. Cue is also a champion of the Apple way: Entering new areas patiently and slowly and preaching the need to put the customer first. To negotiating partners, he epitomizes the company’s penchant for secrecy with a poker face that media companies scramble to decipher.

The executive has been described as “more a strategist and tactician than manager” as he stays focused on a few top priorities. Cue, according to unnamed employees will often “swoop in to get things done himself, paying little attention to smaller projects or personnel matters”.
Apple’s spokesman Tom Neumayr a month ago told Peter Kafka of AllThingsD in response to the iTunes 11 delay:

The new iTunes is taking longer than expected and we wanted to take a little extra time to get it right. We look forward to releasing this new version of iTunes with its dramatically simpler and cleaner interface, and seamless integration with iCloud before the end of November.

Place your bets now: is the new iTunes a completely new code written from scratch or just a cleverly marketed redesigned version of the same decade-old resource hog we love to hate?
The standard of the smartphone snapper has increased dramatically over the past couple of years, to the stage where many rely upon their handset as their sole source of still images and videos. While companies have worked around many design caveats to offer optimal photo and video-taking experience, some issues have proved more difficult to smooth out than others, and just like the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S III before it, it seems the LG-made Google Nexus 4 also suffers with the issue of purple haze.

For those unfamiliar, purple haze is – in a technological sense – exactly as described. Certain reflections and refractions of a smartphone’s camera lens or heavy load of the sensor cause a hazy, purplish-colored blemish to appear across a vast portion of an image, which all-but ruins the shot. The Galaxy S III’s camera, which, under tests, appears inferior to most other recently released, high-end smartphones, seems to suffer with the issue a great deal worse than others, but despite being very new to the market, the Nexus 4 has not escaped the plaguing issue.

The image below has been taken on a Nexus 4, and you can clearly notice the discolored nature of the shot. It’s not just a Nexus 4 problem – it is in fact one affecting the majority of the cameras on some of the higher-end smartphones – and if you wish to prevent these cloudy blotches from spoiling your Kodak moments, ensure you don’t take shots right in the face of a bright light.

Hopefully, it’s an issue that the likes of Apple, Google, HTC and LG can fix in the near future. Whilst the overall quality of cameras on smartphones wasn’t of particular significance some five or so years ago, now it’s almost essential, and with millions of images taken using the likes of the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy S III and shared on social networking sites like Facebook, none of the major smartphone makers will want this issue to escalate beyond the current product lineup.

The issue itself doesn’t crop up too often, and as stated earlier, if you avoid the heavy lighting conditions, you should be able to keep your images relatively purple haze-free.
Today’s media event from Apple in San Jose has, by all accounts, gone pretty well. We anticipated an iPad mini, tweaked Mac mini, iMac, 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, along with alterations to the third-gen iPad and some sort of update to iBooks, and that’s pretty much what we got
What we weren’t so sure of, however, was just how significant some of the changes would be, and in the first broadcast keynote from the Cupertino since 2010, we got quite a bit more than we bargained for.

Things started off rather quietly, with Apple CEO Tim Cook giving shareholders a little update on just how much his company has achieved since, well, last month. After the usual flurry and superlatives and self-gratification, the products began to emerge as both Cook and Phil Schiller took it in turns to officially reveal the fruits of the fruit company’s labor.

The first announcement was a new version of iBooks. No significant changes, but now it features continuous scrolling in between pages for easier reading, better iCloud support and social sharing features. Not exactly the kind of update we hoped for, but still, we got one.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display stuck to the script written for it by the blogosphere, and offers those looking for a thinner, lighter (yet still high-end) notebook the chance to purchase one at a smaller size. The screen may be a bit smaller, but it’s no less impressive, and with a $1699 price tag, it’s a cool $500 cheaper than the entry-level 15-inch edition.

The Mac mini presented us with a refresh in line with what had been rumored for the weeks prior to this morning – featuring Intel’s newest Ivy Bridge processor along with four USB 3.0 ports, and with a server edition offering up to 2TB of HDD space, it does now look to be the real deal.

The Mac mini didn’t, however, outshine the, which is now just 5mm thick at its thinnest points around the edges. The optical drive is gone, but taking into consideration the beauty of Apple’s favorite desktop computer, I’m sure few people will be sorry to have seen it depart.
The rumor mill threw up quite a few suppositions with regards to the iMac, and although the possibility of a thinner form factor was toyed with, Apple delivered a very aesthetically-pleasing iMac which is now considerably faster than its predecessor.

The Mac alterations were pleasing, but that wasn’t exactly why everybody tuned in. This was the iPad mini event, and when Schiller finally unveiled it to the world, all doubts about the device were put to rest.
It packs in the A5 processor, 720p 7.9-inch display, and with a bezel reflecting that of the iPod touch, it fits nicely into the hand. Although the idea of 12 different models turned out to be a little off, there’s still plenty of variety for everybody, and since $329 buys you 16GB of iPad mini, I’d rate Apple’s chances of dealing with the imminent demand as fairly low.

Last but by no means least, Apple took the controversial decision to give the 3rd-gen iPad quite a few more changes than we’d bargained for. In fact, the new, "twice as fast" Apple A6X processor isquite a bump, and with better Wi-Fi support, improved 4G LTE in European / Asian nations, and the new Lightning connector, the major talking point seems to be how Apple has ripped off its customers.
You can check out today’s entire keynote video by heading over to this link . We’re certain that the event will be available to watch via YouTube as well soon, and when that happens; we’ll update this post and embed the video below this paragraph for your viewing pleasure.
What do you make of the new, fourth-gen iPad? Was Apple wrong to release what is a fairly significant upgrade just eight months after the third-gen?
