Heads up to you guys..

As if many haven't been down this road before.

I pulled my NR3030 out of storage and plugged it in. It's got fairly low run time on it.

The second I turn it on, I hear the insides sizzle and smell like burning. I turn it off and bring it to my local authorized onkyo repair shop.

Several days later, I get a call that a few transistors fried along with a circuit board or two along for the same ride. I ok the repair and the tech tells me that he can't return my parts, because he has a deal with onkyo to return them to onkyo. I remind him that I'm paying for the new parts and labor, and that it's against the law to not return my old parts after requesting them.

It's going on two weeks and the repair shop and I have called onkyo with no success. They have not called me back. They did tell the authorized repair place that they were gonna escalate the situation to management, just as soon as they were told they were breaking the law.

I've had several onkyo receivers. Couple have fried, the oldest ones still work like a charm.

I will never buy onkyo again, and neither should any of you. They have fallen out of touch with clients and reality.

I'm hearing that denon and marantz take better care of their customers. This came from a reputable source.

This is my last onkyo and my new lawsuit if they don't clean their act up.

Onkyo buyers beware.

Hey hello, im searching information because there is no possibility to test, only blind buy.
My small room have a L form, 2.8 meters x 3.2 meters, very small.. im currenly using my KEF R300 in a 1,4meters triangle and my max listening volume is 90dB, moderate and low volume, in high-moderate and high volume the speakers can shake the walls ( but with roll-off in the sub-bass ) but that isn't normally usage.. i want a subwoofer with integrate well in my room in low and morate volume, feel the bass without abuse the volume, the speakers can't do that... Rythmik servo subs impressive me but! they are 12'' i think is too overkill... i saw the REL T7i too but i think these sub are overprice... 30hz -3dB and 1k hmmm, what do you think guys?
I'm only want to use the subwoofer for music, i listen a lot of metal so they need to be fast..
Thank you

Work has always had me moving around and I've never really been in a position for it to be worth spending money on certain things, like a HT until now. I don't have the dimensions of the space I'll be moving into next week, but the square footage is around 490 for a 1 bedroom. I spent about 5 hours talking to a buddy of mine who used to do a lot of really high end installations and it wasn't really helpful at all in terms of giving me an idea of what I should be looking for.

Right now I want something for music that I can build into a HT, probably within the next 6 months. That said music is and will be the primary concern, enough to the extent that I would be happy to put my entire focus on music and scrap the HT idea if there were reason. My starting budget is around $1,000 to $1,200ish for a receiver, sub, and 2 speakers. I was originally thinking I wanted 3-way towers with an 8"powered sub to start. After talking to my buddy he was kinda pushing me towards bookshelf speakers due to mostly streaming music and being inexperienced and possibly unsure of sound preferences.

I probably should've perused the forum a bit more before posting but I'm not even really sure where I should start.

Years ago I had a Klipsch ProMedia GMX A-2.1. The GMX is the downgraded version. It sounded great. Deep punchy bass, fun/lively, very dynamic, but also a smoothness to it. There was no separation between the speakers and woffer, the sound was very wholesome. It also gave the impression the sound was "coming" at you. Could do a lot of genres, liked to listen to NIN, alternative rock, industrial metal, some bass heavy trance/techno, rap.

Never listened to a pair of headphones that sounded like that. I understand that there are certain things that headphones can't do. Currently I have the HD380Pro's, B&O H9i's, Ultrasone DJ1 and 580i's, Panasonic HTF600, and owned others. They each get close from a certain point of view, but never reach it. The closest that come to it are the H9i's, but they are a bit too raw and in your head. And a bit too lively.

Source is PC, Xonar DGX, Chord Mojo.

Tried the Meze 99 Classics with a 3rd gen pads I think, did not like them. Did not sound fun/dynamic, sounded kind of tame and distant. Recessed mids.

The 580I's are close to the bass I'd like, but it's got recessed mids and don't sound wholesome. Only works with some genres.

I'd like not to spend more than I have to though. I hope I don't have to change the amp/dac.

Ideally they'd be closed circumaural.

1MORE Triple Driver.
Audeze Mobius.
Fostex TH-X00/TH900.
Audioquest.
Beyerdynamic T1 (in the T5 body).
LCD-2 Closed.
Denon AH-D7000.
Ultrasone Signature Pro?

What else should I be looking at?

Box size and design for dual UM15-22 woofers?

I can build subs, but I get hung up on the design and modelling phase.

With that said, I came into possession (2 long stories) of two new UM15-22 woofers and got a great deal on a new Behringer NX3000D to drive them.

I am trying to come up with a design that works well with the UM15, but it seems like it was sort of an "odd duck" for DIY subwoofers. Most say that it needs a box to be large to be effective, and thus the reason most people just jump to a UM18 instead (or other 18" driver).

That is fine, but I already have these two UM15s in my possession.

My two current subs in my theater are an older SVS 20-39 PCi (cylinder style sub) and a DIY clone that I made after someone modeled it up for me a couple of years back. They measure almost identical even though my "clone" DIY subwoofer isn't in a cylinder shape.

I have not yet decided if the new subs will flat out replace the two 12" subs that I already have, or be in addition to them long term. For the short term they will go behind my 2nd row of seats, and long term might end up behind my false screen wall.

Room is 14' x 24' x 8' so just under 2700 cuft.

Current subs are tuned with REW and a MiniDSP and work well, but like I said, I came into possession of these new UM15s for almost nothing (like really, almost nothing) and with potentially 900Watts from the amp per subwoofer (on paper anyway), I thought that this would make a good late summer/early fall project, but I need to get my design sorted out.

I was looking at one of the Marty style. I know that the UM15 claims that it needs 11cuft to really hit optimal specs, but if these go behind my seating, they might not pass the "wife test" being that big, but at the same time, if I need to "hide them" behind the screen wall to make them really perform, then I might be open to doing that sooner rather than waiting until later.

The main reason that I wouldn't just put the new larger 15" subs up front is that it would mean either putting the two mis-matched looking 12" subwoofers in the room somewhere (again, doesn't look great) or getting rid of the current two 12s completely.

So thoughts on a box design/size that would a good one for the UM15-22 woofers? Thanks all.

I’m looking for the best way to connect both a soundbar and my receiver to the tv. Here is the situation:
Most TVs only have ok sound, so I would like to have a soundbar for my casual watching. Basically act as my TVs speaker.
Then for movies and when I really care, I would like the sound to go through my receiver so I can listen in surround sound and my much better speakers.
I’m looking to use the TVs internal apps. So the best way to feed things is through ARC or eARC. But most TVs only have one ARC input. Not sure if TVs with multiple HDMI 2.1 ports like the LG CX can all do eARC.
Anyway, with only one ARC input, I can only connect either the soundbar or the receiver. Is there a way to get the HDMI sound out to both devices? Is the best way to use optical for the soundbar? Ideally, I would like to leverage the CEC controls for volume.

I have my receiver (Denon 3700) but don’t have my soundbar and am starting to look for my tv replacement. So I have some flexibility.

I'm looking for soundbar for my bedroom. It's a small room and I don't watch a ton of TV in there, but I just want something better than the TV speakers and to use for music. I want to spend less than $100. Ideally that produces decent bass without a subwoofer and either has ARC or can easily be programed to be controlled with my main remote.

Two I was looking at are the: Vizio 20inch 2.0 and the Creative Stage 2.1. I haven't heard either yet but am guessing the Creative is going to sound better, and it also does have ARC, which Vizio doesn't. The only drawback is that I'd rather not have a subwoofer if possible, and I've read the version without the subwoofer is pretty weak, and also doesn't have ARC.

Anyone hear both of these and can share their input, or suggest others I should be looking at?

Thanks

I want to stack two subs on top of each other behind the screen. They are both 9.5 cu ft gross, and are 17" deep. 17" seems slim to me. Would some type of metal bracket be best, or...? My worst fear would be that the top one would "dance" off the bottom one and fall into the back of the screen. I plan on pushing them hard :D
Thanks for any help or ideas.

Hey Everyone,

I haven't been in the home theater game in probably 10 years, maybe longer. Back in the day the Pioneer Plasma Kuros were the best TVs out there and Dolby Digital and DTS were just emerging.

Off Topic - Don't read this part if you don't care about what TV I bought and why: I just ordered a Samsung QLED 85Q90T. Please don't judge me lol. I was going to pull the trigger on the Sony OLED A9G (since I read it had superior motion handling over the LG CX), but no HDMI 2.1 ports and that kinda broke the deal for me. Initially, my plan was going to be to buy a TV for a couple thousand (Canadian) to hold me over until the next gen Sony OLED came out, but after looking at the Samsung QLED, seeing the price point, the fact that I could get the 85" which was a huge selling fact for me, I watch a lot of sports, and after seeing the picture in person, it was good enough for me! It isn't a huge gap compared to the OLEDs that I've seen, and to be honest, I think I'd only notice the quality difference if both TVs were in the same room. Once I get it in my place, having a pretty damn good 85" TV, which is an upgrade from the ****ty 55% plasma I bought 7 years ago which featured 3D mode, I'm going to be happy.

Back On Topic Anyway...I am sorry for ranting about that, I'm a few beers in. Mostly wanted to just let you guys know the size (85") of TV I will have and I kinda want the sound to match the size if that makes sense.

I am just learning about 7.1 vs 5.1.2. My room size (which is an open concept as I live in a condo/apartment so not all of this area is enclosed) is 19' X 13'. Do you guys recommend the 7.1 or the 5.1.2? I would like to have the most immersion possible for movies & sports.

With that all said, what receiver do you recommend? Once I know this I will head over to the speaker forum to see what they recommend, unless you can also recommend speakers.

Budget: Looking for mid to high end recommendations, but not top of the line in the sense that one would put in a dedicated home theater room in their million dollar house. I'm looking for something that will stand the test of time and will accentuate the TV I have and make the experience as immersive as possible. I'm not an audiophile, so if you save me money I'll love you lol

Thank you for your time!

I have done much research now for my 13x15x8 room and want to go with 2 sealed subs. I have narrowed it down to HSU and PSA as I think they’ll offer the best bang for the buck. I will only use them for movies.

The HSU ULS-15 MKS would be about $1700 for the two shipped and the PSA S1512 would be $2100 for the two shipped.

I welcome thoughts on if it’s worth spending the extra $400 for the PSA’s.

Thank you in advance

Good day everyone. I have a 5.1 setup at our new home already. All speakers sound good except for the center channel. It is a very small Jamo center channel that I want to replace.

Can you recommend the best center channel I can get for $150 or less.

Thank you

A friend who once owned a Fosgate processor hopes to find a similar audio-only processor. He desired setup would be two channels in, four out. The budget is under $1000.

He thought about buying an old Fosgate on eBay, but the word is, their build quality was poor and problems are likely.

Are there any recommendable current products like this? Or is it a category whose time has passed?

If the latter, do you know of specialists in repairing old Fosgate units?

THANKS!

I am soundproofing my basement and have these layers for the

Ceiling:
open cell spray foam to fill gaps
pink insulation
hat channel/furring with whisper clips
2 x 5/8 drywall with green glue
acoustic sealant on the edges of drywalls

2 questions:

1. Should I use a hat channel for the wall as well or I can get away with RC1 or RC2?
2. I cannot find whisper clips in Canada. What should I do?
