Getting The Cart Before the Ox – Or How To Do Social Media Wrong!

I have recently launched a social networking site in Tucson that is geared towards both profit and non profit businesses. I have also joined a slew of social media sites this year as part of The 109 Day Link Building Explosion Program. The program is based on what I call “scratch my back marketing. The whole idea is to make networking and branding the cornerstones of any social media effort.

If you are looking for backlinks then your responsibility is to add value through great content or comments. I encourage you to take a long term view of your marketing efforts. When you add value (back scratching) to a site you are rewarded with useful links and recognition (networking – branding) more back scratching.

When you are using social media sites like Ning or Facebook the same principals apply. You visit someone’s profile and then their website. You then will want to make an inquiry about the individual or business on their wall. Your job is to show friendship and kindness. When you do this people are likely to respond positively to you effort. The responder is likely to visit your profile and is likely to answer your inquiry and maybe ask about you.

If there is a common bond you may then ask to become friends because you are establishing a relationship. Social media isn’t much different than attending a business mixer. Successful networkers know their job is to ask about the other person and to be genuinely sincere. How can you expect to effectively market your product or services if you don’t know anything about that person?

When you pitch someone right out the gate you are sending a strong message. That message reads the only thing that I care about is your money and I want some of it. When you go to someone’s profile and ask to be friends without ever establishing a relationship it is often a foolish waste of time. What you are saying is “I want the right to market to you.” That’s not a very good approach.

Imagine for a moment that you are at a business mixer. Then out of nowhere someone sticks a business card or a flier in your face and starts selling you. Would you want to do business with this person? After all, they are selling you without ever having established whether you actually need what they have to offer. The odds don’t favor a business relationship being built under these circumstances.

The person on a social site that starts a contact by selling without building a relationship is practicing cold calling. And as we all know, cold calling is never a very effective marketing approach. You are getting your cart ahead of your ox. This is sad because it is so easy to visit a profile and to establish the potential need, want, or desire. Those who believe every network member is a potential client are only fooling themselves.

People pitch me marketing products all day long. They fail to realize that I am a marketing professional and I am not likely to be interested in their products. However, if you invite me to visit your page and I see something that is unique I might become a customer or I might write a review about the product on my blog.

Yes, what I am recommending here, scratch my back marketing, is a time consuming process. I like to compare it to nurturing a garden. You don’t go out one day and throw some seed about and realistically expect results the next day. Gardening, successful gardening takes time, effort, and patience. Social media marketing can easily be compared to gardening it takes time, effort, and patience. People like to do business with people that they know and trust!

Is your cart ahead of your ox?

Thanks,
She would have never guess a woman as intelligent as her would miss the warning signs of his deception. But she had. There was nothing like a heartbreak to make a woman reevaluate her life. Too bad her first night in town gets off to a bad start when she is propositioned by a complete stranger. Yes he is sexy as sin but so what. His rudeness deters from it. It only gets worse when Kristina finds out he is not only her co-worker but her boss.

Robert Cantu doesn't normally go out and he isn't much of a drinker either but it still doesn't excuse his behavior during his first encounter with Kristina. He also knows his first impression just might be his last. He can't afford to lose her. It is hard to find good, qualified help especially since most people are clamoring to leave San Angelo. He is willing to do whatever it takes to keep Kristina on board even if it means ignoring his intense attraction to her . . .
Imagination

Imagination is like your nourishment and refreshment of progress, it will be your imagination that will inspire you to write or do the things that make you successful. Authors may get writers block, as might inventors or artists find themselves on the precipice of a blank page in their mind.

It’s our imagination that brings nourishment to what we are undertaking and our perception of our progress that will bring us to be excited or deflated. Deflation will lead to lack of imagination and elation will lead to an abundance of imagination and new ideas.

Imagination like anything, any tool that we have or use improves with use, but like a flower it needs to be groomed and looked after, it needs food or stimuli and it needs a foundation a plan or goal and then the sun and the rain progress both good and bad to grow.

Remember that problems are just as important as results to help our imagination grow; we need disappointment to be able to enjoy success. It is our happiness and disappointment that conjures our imagination into changing our direction toward improvement. It is the lack of imagination that will keep you down, when things are not going your way. Imagination is tied into perception so we need to keep it nourished with new information whether that is from learning from others or reading information or through blunt trial and error.

The important part is to do something new, read or do something and wait for the inspiration to flow and the imagination to nourish and grow.
We all have some form of specialised knowledge, it may be that you have worked for a company for so long you have built up enough knowledge in your work place to go out and set up for yourself. This is probably one of the highest motivations for self-employment, people setting up their own company because they believe in themselves and their abilities through years of work in their industry.

Hobbies and interests are also good motivations for setting up in business, people who have been interes…

This is probably one of the highest motivations for self-employment, people setting up their own company because they believe in themselves and their abilities through years of work in their industry.

Hobbies and interests are also good motivations for setting up in business, people who have been interested in a particular hobby for years taking the plunge from working as an amateur to becoming a pro.

It is this field of specialised interest that gives the adrenalin and drive to completing a goal, adapting, weaving and improving as you go. Producing something that inevitably has your own stamp or slant or individual style that makes it successful.

Of course we don’t all recognise our own individual speciality, or see it as important, and that is why many Internet marketers, remain marketers never, having any success, never owning a business. Because instead of working along the route of their own specialised knowledge they grab hold of an affiliation into something they are not expert in and run along hitching their wagon to the wagon trail of an expert, who leads them in circles, and leading them to the inevitable quitting scenario many affiliates are familiar with never having made any money.

If you have no specialised knowledge then you will run round in circles, trying to live up to someone else’s goals. To make money you need to run a business and for that you need to sell a product or a service.

We all have specialised knowledge, one of my favourite examples of a person making a business out of their own specialised knowledge, is a guy who set up his own website advertising local take-away in his own home town. He quickly built up a reputation and local business wanted to advertise on his site. This is an example of how one person with his own unique interest in local take-away food services, became an expert on his own town and even that started to expand and grow into more specialised knowledge in the town in general.

Specialised knowledge will grow, gently and slowly piece by piece, generating into a snowball of information and experience that will enhance any business.

Why not take out time today to consider your field of specialised knowledge.
Belief and our own Suggestibility

The belief that repeating suggestions and affirmations aloud to yourself writing them down and constantly saying it to yourself everyday may work for some people, but it is actually in relative terms a modern method of self-suggestion. It’s a modern method of suggestion that fits in with modern education and secular lifestyles. As such it’s probably more appealing to many people than perhaps hypnosis or other methods of applying suggestions to our subconscious mind.

Nevertheless whichever method you choose to use will require a blind leap of faith, if you have any lingering doubts at all, any slightest negative thought, then it will not work, you need blind faith.

However many people dismiss an ancient technique of suggestion that is thousands of years old and runs parallel with many faiths and religions, it can be seen in prayer, in chants, and religious rituals and ceremonies. It is of course meditation and is not only relaxing and beneficial to both the mind and body, but is also the best way of creating self-suggestion that will work for everyone.

The theology of Christianity has been around for thousands of years and it is a very real possibility that it will never ever fade away. Of course its true that many people in most western modern civilisations have become more secular in their beliefs. However the core concept of Christianity is just as alive and well as it’s ever been, and it’s based on a belief that has no scientific proof.

This has to be a testament to the power of faith and belief, and a true testament to the accomplishment of something truly monumental brought about from millions of single individuals all who share the same core belief.

Of course these are beliefs that we have learnt from others and most of what goes on inside our heads is about what we believe as a result of our life experience and education.

The question is that even if we know which parts of what we have learnt along the way are negative and holding us back can we change them and a lot of modern day psychology deals with that.

However there are other methods and as I mentioned before meditation is really one of the most relaxing healing and true ways that we can come to terms with negativity and apply more positive beliefs in our life’s and it can be done in a short process every morning. In fact meditation has for centuries been part of many peoples process of healing mind and body bring oneself into a more positive and healthier frame of mind, bringing harmony and transformation into their life.
Although most business is done on the net favourably, there are a lot of business opportunities that you need to watch out for.

So many people write on the Internet about how they have been in marketing for years and have been scammed and spammed, costing them thousands of dollars in the process, and never made a penny, try not to be one of them.

It is a different to sell a product or service on the Internet than it is in a shop, solely because as most salespeople will tell you that people like to touch or hold a product before they buy it. Also, and I know this may sound strange but people often buy the salesperson not the product or service. That is, if they like the salesperson, it’s so much easier to sell them a product.

Obviously you can’t do this over the net, so writing style and advertising is different on the net than it is in the shops and it would seem that a lot of scams and poor biz ops are set up by people who are very good at marketing and selling dreams rather than reality.

I am trained in psychology however I am first and foremost a sociologist at heart and a relative “newbie” to the Internet. I started my Internet business in January and I have found the difference between dealing with business in the real world a lot different to business on the Internet.

I set up a new email address to use to when I deal with signing up to an unknown company, biz op or sales letter or free gift where you have to give in your email address to receive the gift or information. This way I can screen the people I am dealing with and evaluate them safely.

However it seems to me in just a few months I am already seeing a pattern, and that is; Firstly having a website is not like buying a shop in the high street, you can be seen in the high street, having a website is like buying a shop underground where the entrance is several hundred metres away hidden under a bush. Secondly you need to stock your shop with products or services and this is difficult especially if you want your own brand products, so many people resort to selling other peoples brand products and this is where the problem starts.

How can you tell through the Internet if a company is really what or who they say they are. This leaves people in a vulnerable situation and it can create a feeling of dissatisfaction and unease. It is at these times that people tend to look for something or someone who will help them.

This is where the scammer has you, whilst you are scanning the Internet, search engines, traffic / link or ad exchange, social websites, etc, and you find a pot of gold.

A clever marketer that is going to sell you exactly what you want and not what you need, the desire of a fantastic life by selling secrets, information, education that you need to learn before you can make fantastic opportunities on the internet.

So be careful that you do not buy the Emperor’s clothes or travel to London looking for streets paved in gold. Try to focus on what you need rather than what you want, that is you need to start a business and not win money. A solid business will grow and provide you with the money, but it will require you to build it first. So watch out for get rich quick or too good to be true ops.

Once your near her front door, you can't wait to feel more.
Her door opens to you, You begin to see,
Just what all the draw appears to be.
She has tall colored walls with a modest appeal,
Yet knowing and feeling her, we know she is real.
Her ceilings are high, her floors with her bumps.
All the stories she tells, you see in her humps.
To be continued!
Belief

Belief is one of those tricky words that is difficult to explain without using an example, because it is effectively a psychological state. It is where you psychologically hold the concept in your mind that something is true. That is one accepts a specific proposition or premise to be true.

Belief can be driven through blind faith in which no scientific explanation or proof needs to be provided to prove the belief to be true.

Belief can be driven through experience in which that if something occurs with such predictability and consistency it is almost impossible to discard it as being true. Even if something does not replicate exactly on random occasions it can still be dismissed as fluke or a statistical blip, and the belief keeps its authority and its psychological essence of being true.

Belief can be driven through fact or scientific or mathematical truth, reliability and consistency. A mathematical equation such as two plus two equals four is a pretty difficult fact to deny or destroy.

The hardest beliefs in the world to destroy are those driven through fact and blind faith. These beliefs are almost cast in stone, and are the rocks on which the foundation of our social existence, religion, culture, economy and society we live in are built.

However not all beliefs are such rocks of scientific, social or psychological magnitude, it is those beliefs that are built from experience which are built upon the foundation of paper cards and can tumble and fall with even the slightest doubt.

It is these beliefs that are the hardest to learn, discover or copy. This is why just learning what one successful persons beliefs and attitudes are, does not equal an ability to reproduce their success.

This is because their specific personal beliefs were borne from their specific personal experience, which would be impossible to reproduce. To learn their beliefs and attitudes to write them down and sell them as millionaires secrets is absolutely of no use or help to anyone else except the individual them self.

Beliefs are our most important psychological assets, If there is anything that is going to protect you from conflict, opposition and obstruction it is your belief in what you want to achieve. If there is anything that can give you the courage to take the plunge and do what is necessary regardless, it is belief.

This does not mean that if you find yourself in conflict with another person because that you believe that you are in the right and the other is in the wrong that you should not back down. One should always remain both clear-headed and inwardly strong so as to be able to meet ones opponent half way. To bear out conflict with another will only have negative effects.

However you cannot simply buy and sell beliefs based on experience, that is by simply adopting one successful persons belief system and following their actions does not mean that you will end up with the same results.

You will already have your own belief system that has been built through your own personal experience and simply learning a few beliefs and imposing them piggyback style on your own belief system will not work. Just as being infected by a virus into your physical body will be defended and fought of by your immune system, your psychological system will defend and fight off your newly adopted beliefs and it will only take one small doubt in your mind for your subconscious to do this.

Thus you can start a new project with all the emotion and excitement of success and then just the smallest niggling doubt can destroy your belief in an instant leaving you deflated and feeling like giving up.

Its at this stage that you can so easily be tempted by a clever piece of marketing and the promise of more secrets of success and rush for the next best business on the internet that will make your fortunes.

This is the cycle you need to break.
