Los Angeles Artist and Musician Edward Sussman plays the Theremin without touching the instrument

The Theremin is the only musical instrument you can play without touching. Artist and Entrepreneur, Edward Sussman, Los Angeles is an accomplished Theremin musician. He also founded The Pure Imagination Co., a self-made, creative and artistic company. He has been involved in all facets of the entertainment industry and house-craft. “We take great pride in our work, our clients and our clients' needs and input,” he said. Sussman also takes great pride in his passion for playing the Theremin. Over the past two decades, the Theremin has had a major resurgence and has been surfacing in numerous rock bands performances, Youtube videos, and on the classical concert circuits.

“The Theremin uses radio frequencies with two antennas, one for pitch and one for volume,” explained Sussman. “It was invented more than 100 years ago by a Russian named Leon Theremin. He believed he could do something with the AM radio pitches and whistle sounds when he tried to tune an AM radio. After analyzing everything he discovered that he could build an apparatus that would sound like a woman singing. Or like something from outer space,” he said.

During his time in the United States, he was called Leon Theremin and the instrument took on his name. It consists of a box-like body with two antennas: one is a straight vertical rod which controls the pitch (usually on the right for right-handed players), the other is a horizontal loop (usually on the left) shaped somewhat like a cane handle which controls the volume. The pitch and volume of the note are controlled by the distance of the hands from the antennas which generate an electromagnetic field.

“Moving the hand closer to the pitch antenna causes the pitch to raise,” said Sussman. “and moving the hand closer to the volume loop decreases the volume and eventually silences the instrument. Your distance to the pitch antenna tunes the Theremin. Any motion of the body or any solid object in the playing fields will affect the note. This field extends outward about two feet in any direction from the antenna. Thereminists generally need to be a little bit away from any other performers or listeners, who might interfere with the radio signals. There have been many different designs, and Moog Music remains the longest continuous builder of Theremins and their instruments are the most used by Thereminists around the world.

Ed Sussman, also is a technical craftsperson or specialist for themed entertainment, major studio projects, commercials and aerospace, including McDonald Douglas Aviation (Boeing Aerospace), where he worked as a model shop fabricator and improved his creative engineering skills. For four years he performed fabrication of display and concept models for the military and airline marketing. Additionally, he created in miniature the assembly line processes and plant layouts for line production of DC-10/MD11 and C-17 aircraft. Later he worked forWalt Disney Imagineering for nearly two years on concept model fabrication and sculpting.

Sussman also lead sculpting department at Spectra F/X, where he interfaced with the engineering department with structural and mechanical issues for animated and lighted sculptures and set pieces for themed installations. He has even worked on such famous movie miniatures as theTitanic. At Foam Tech, Inc., Sun Valley, Sussman worked on client concerns such as foam materials and local fire safety issues when introduced into themed, permanent installations for restaurants, store interiors, and exteriors. The installations were made with custom molds, foam spraying, hard coating and sculpting with steel or wood substructures.

For three decades Sussman has been tinkering and creating original artwork, which includes his most recent Musical Muse series. Musical Muse is a collection of salt and pepper shakers, ornaments, teapots and “all around fun,” 'lively' musical characters. Musical Muse is made under license and is available from merchants, e-stores or directly from Sussman. “From small-scale renders to full-scale models, we provide end-to-end needs for our clients such as sculptures, mold-making, props, miniatures, and objects of art. Our Musical Muse Collection e-store provides a personal touch for your home and also make excellent gifts,” he said.
Sussman’s found his passion more than 20 years ago with the Theremin, and even created a slick, black, vacuum formed plastic sculptural body, to cover the standard Theremin box case giving it more personality/sensuality. Sussman, who still does concerts and prop work also talks about movie sets and TV series, such as his prop work on JJ Abrams 2009 reboot of Star Trek, and how he gets cheers from an audience when they hear him play the original TV Star Trek’ theme song, “The Theremin sounds like a high pitched woman’s voice you hear in the theme song,” explained Sussman, who met several times with Robert Moog, inventor of the Moog Synthesizer and plays one of his manufactured Theremins. With Moog’s assistance, Sussman built a prop replica of what was played to make the Theremin-like sounds for the song Good Vibrations for the TV movie “The Beach Boys: An American Family”. “Many people associated the Good Vibrations song with a Theremin,” he said. Sussman also said he made a prop instrument replicating the one the Beach Boys used on tour. It was a variation (a strip of wire when pressed down made a mechanical connection and a Theremin-like sound) because the Theremin was too difficult for them to play. 80 years the LA Mission has been reaching out to help the less fortunate on
Skid Row. On this Thanksgiving Eve, it was even more special for some 3,500
homeless neighbors treated to a delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings,
thanks to 500 people involved near Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles. There nearly 45,000 men, women and children
in LA, who have no place to call home. This week HUD said LA now has the
largest homeless population in the country.

The Mission’s sit-down midday meal offered thousands of homeless a unique dining experience.
Hollywood Celebrities and local political leaders, including LAPD Chief Charlie Beck and former LA
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. The
Mission welcomes its Skid Row friends and neighbors every year on the day before Thanksgiving to relax for a while and celebrate with Mission volunteers.

Not present last year were so many tents put up within an arm’s reach of the Mission. Sidewalks surrounding the area on Skid Row are almost at two rows of tents in some areas keeping the homeless out the cold, which recently has dipped into the lower 40’s in LA.

According to Wikipedia, Newport Beach is an affluent community, a place of luxury, elegance and world famous for hotels, designer boutiques and spectacular views.

“The weather here is so warm and even,” said Princeton. “We get this kind of weather, in the 70’s year- round. It is home to surfers like me. When I have out-of-town visitors I describe Newport Beach as a total paradise with rugged trails, never ending waves and boutique restaurants to die for.”

Thousands of auto show fans, car collectors and enthusiasts beat the triple digit heat recently to get a close-up shot of their favorite Ford make and model cars at the 4th Annual Galpin Car Show hosted by Galpin Ford, Van Nuys, CA. There were just about every make and model of Ford cars from roadsters, antique sedans to the new and modified Ford Mustangs.

“You have to remember that other than the Chevy Corvette, the Mustang was America’s first muscle car,” said car enthusiast Salem Cain, who had his candy apple red, 2015 S-550 Mustang on display at the event. It was a ‘performance package’ of which he turned into a “track package.” It has board racing suspension, Brembo brakes, and other advanced features.

“The first American Muscle car didn’t come out until 1967, and then after that you had the Roadrunner, the Challenger, the Charger and all of that.” And Cain boasts about his knowledge of all the different varieties and styles of Mustangs. “My favorite is now sitting in my garage at home, a 1966 GT-350-H, which is a Shelby Mustang, which is original and a classic, and my other favorite is the 1967 GT-500, the Shelby Eleanor,” he said.

When asked why auto shows draw such large crowds, Cain said, “Everyone likes auto shows, the customization of someone else’s car.” 1934 Ford Sedan owner, Michael Fonterra said he comes every year because of the comradery and he likes to connect with other car enthusiasts. “You know a simple car like this is amazing to look at, the technology of that time and is an amazing car to drive, but I could use an air conditioner today,” he said.

Car collector Harold Thomas, who brought his 1939 Ford sedan he has owned since 1959, also enjoys networking with auto enthusiasts. “It’s the value you get from creating a museum piece,” he said. And Paul Monet said what attracts him to these cars shows, “It’s the styling. I would rather see more of these (1939 Fords) that all of those Mustangs. They got the power and the rides, but the style in the older models have everything,” he said.

The Auto Show included live music, a BBQ, 44-foot Ferris wheel, rock climbing wall, bungee jump and live music entertainment. There were hundreds of beautiful, one-of-a-kind, unique show cars and exciting TV and movie cars.

Jorge Rivera, Mexico's film superstar speaks out on Hollywood film industry

Even though he has retired from movies and the entertainment industry, Mexico’s biggest movie star Jorge Rivero says he still keeps an eye on Hollywood from his home nestled up above the city in Hollywood Hills. The 75-year-old actor starred in some 150 movies from the 1960’s to 1990’s. He starred in films featuring John Wayne and Charlton Heston in Hollywood. In Europe, he was directed by legendary writer/ producer/director Lucio Fulci, where he admitted he enjoyed it more there than in the USA.

Rivero, a handsome and muscular Mexican leading man ironically, in his first film he played a masked wrestler and his face was never shown. He became a sex symbol and a major box-office star. Later, he was called by Hollywood to star with John Wayne inHoward Hawks's Rio Lobo (1970). Since the 1980s he has worked only occasionally in Mexican films and soap operas -- he has resided Southern California for more than three decades -- and appears in international productions, sometimes billed as
"George Rivero."

Jorge Rivero, actor who made 150 films in Europe, Mexico and Hollywood.

During the 1970’s, way before Antonio Banderas, Gael García Bernal and others defined Latino actors, Rivero was a film hit during the days when Mexico was putting out 200 films a year. In Europe, his powerful, buff physique at six feet high attracted leading ladies all over the world like Spanish sex symbols Sandra Mozarowsky and Ana Obregon. The film superstar also worked with superstars like Miss Europe’s Pia Giancaro and Daniel Giordano during the height of his career in the 70s.

If they were not exchanging business cards they were tweeting and posting their favorite photos on social networks at the 65^th Annual Golden Mike Awards, Radio TV News Association (RTNA) Saturday (Jan 24, 2015). Social Media used to be an option, but today every industry, including TV and radio news, where news people get some of their breaking news on everything from Twitter, Facebook to Google+ rely on it.

“Oh my God, Social Media is amazing, you can get to the world in an instant,” said Yvonne Guevara, producer, NBCLA 4 News, who received a Golden Mike for a quarterly special segment on black history. “Each quarter we do a special on each ethnic group,” she said. NBC’s Guevara station also took home several awards including, “Best Newscast 30 minutes or less-NBC 4 News at 11 PM”.

“Before Social Media, we had to develop film, but now it’s instantaneous,” explained Guevara. When ask about fake pictures or video sent to the newsrooms and how NBCLA 4 handles them from social networks she said, “You have to verify it. Journalism and ethics have not changed, just the technology.”

Some 500 radio and TV news professionals packed into the Hilton, Universal City, CA for RTNA Awards dinner. Golden Mikes are considered the Oscars of broadcast journalism. Usually there is a “Designated News week” in October sent over AP and City News Service wires and a “Designated News Day” is announced the day after it occurs, where radio and TV news stations submit their work from that day for “Best Newscasts.” Other entries are submitted for work from Oct 4, 2013 to October 3, 2014. The Golden Mike judges are often selected from out-of-state markets like New York or Chicago. The radio and TV Stations entering in the competition come from Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Fresno, Inyo, Imperial, Kings, Kern and Tulare Counties.

The Broadcast Legend Award Honoree went to Maria Elena Sallinas, a highly-rated “Noticiero Univision” co-anchor for the nightly network newscast and co-host of the news magazine program, “Agui y Ahora” (Here and Now). She has been informing millions of viewers for three decades in America, as well as 18 Latin American Countries. She got her start at KMEX-34 in LA in 1981. She now resides in Florida with her two daughters.

Long time Television Play-by-Play Announcer Bob Miller received the Life Achievement Award. Miller, who has five decades of broadcasting experience was inducted into the Southern California Sports Broadcast Hall of fame, an organization for which he served as president for five years. Later

Miller received a star on the famous Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame.

Music Giant Quincy Jones received the Los Angeles Press Club’s Visionary Award, for his humanitarian work at the 7th Annual National Arts & Entertainment Journalism (NAEJ) Awards Gala in the famed Crystal Ballroom at the historic Millennium Biltmore Hotel, downtown L.A. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014.

The Awards event spotlights the best journalists and critics across all media platforms. Jones was be introduced by Actress Tina Sinatra and had a sit down, candid onstage interview with NBC4’s Robert Kovacik. The Press Club awards were dedicated to Robin Williams who gave back to the community, especially to the homeless. From the moment he broke into America’s living rooms as Mork from the Planet Ork, Robin Williams was irreplaceable, as both an actor and a comic. He was remembered most for his films, “Good Morning Vietnam, Dead Poets Society, Good Will Hunted, where he earned an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. After Williams untimely death on Aug. 11, following a battle with depression, tributes poured in from friends and colleagues in Hollywood.

LA Press Club also handed Entertainment Tonight’s co-host Nancy O’Dell the Luminary Award. “Ms. O’Dell is one of the hardest working professionals in the business and truly deserving of this career achievement award,” said Press Club President Robert Kovacik of NBC4.
Nancy O'Dell (youtube) is the co-host of one of the most watched entertainment news programs, Entertainment Tonight. Among her many achievements she is also a producer, entrepreneur, philanthropist and author of three bestselling books. She is the creator of “Little Ashby: Star Reporter,” an educational series of children’s apps.

The 7th Annual National Arts & Entertainment Journalism (NAEJ) Awards Gala honors reporters, photographers and critics across all media platforms. The event included a silent auction, banquet and entertainment show hosted by Dan Lauria (The Wonder Years/Sullivan & Son) and Valerie Azlynn (Sullivan & Son) and included Comedian Alonzo Bodden

Hollywood Film Festival tackled social impact issue of homelessness

“People end up in homelessness for various reasons, “said Threatt. “Any one of us could end up homeless for the same reasons," said Winter Shelter System Manager Brenda Threatt.

“This festival is about films and entertainment and I’m delighted to be on this panel to talk about homelessness,” said Manager Brenda Threatt, Winter Shelter System for the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA). . Threat was among a half dozen panelist for the Hollywood Film Festival
(Oct. 16-19). “Homelessness is not entertainment; it is a serious crisis in our country and community. I think is extraordinary that people in this industry and the Hollywood film Festival have come together to bring light to this issue,” explained Threatt.

The 90-minute panel on homelessness was moderated by Executive Director John Maceri, Ocean Park Community Center. In addition to LAHSA’s Brenda Threatt and John Maceri, the featured, distinguished speakers included: Katie Stagliano, activist, The Starfish Throwers; Jacquelyn Aluotto, director and producer of the Nimby Experience and Evvy Shapero and Kara Fox, co-founders of Glamour Project.

“People end up in homelessness for various reasons, “said Threatt. “Any one of us could end up homeless for the same reasons. They are no different from us, they are people trying to live,” she said.

LAHSA, which will be counting the homeless in January, is seeking 5,000 volunteers to help in the Greater LA Homeless Count 2015. The last count showed 39,000 men, women and children in the City of LA have no place to call home. And in L.A. County homelessness amounts to around 58,000 over a 4,000 square mile area.

When asked “what can an individual do to help a homeless person,” she said, “We had several suggestions and the most basic one is to ‘care about them as people, to not step over them, not to ignore them, but to see them as human beings’. We should talk to our policymakers and make them accountable to these human beings who represent all of us,” explained Threatt.

Other highlights of the film festival on through tonight (Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014) included the debut showing of, “From Gangs to Gardens, Rap DJ Cavem Moetavation along with his midwife educates youth on eating healthier via organic garden (www.djcavem.com). D.J Cavem said, “We need to educate our youth to reduce obesity in schools and my music and this film is doing just that.”

And finally, during a break of the dozens of films on everything from homelessness to human trafficking, Film Festival Owner Brad Parks, COO, of CineCause

exclusively announced that he has come up with a new software program that will revolutionize the way filmmakers, own and sell their films globally online.

He says it’s similar to DropBox, but more powerful in how social impact filmmakers produce, share and manage their film properties. The Hollywood Film Festival ends Sunday night.

In the opening scene on planet Earth in the year 1988, young Peter Quill sits in the waiting room of a hospital, listening to the Awesome Mix tape no. 1 on his walkman as his grandpa (Greg Henry) comes out and gets him so he can say goodbye to his mom who is dying from cancer. His dying mom gives him a present and tells him his father was an angel and that Peter is just like him. She asks for his hand, but he's too scared to take it. Just then, she dies. The distraught Peter runs outside and is abducted by a spaceship.

26 years later on the planet Morag, an adult Peter Quill A.K.A. The Star-lord (Chris Pratt) is searching for a mysterious Orb. He finds it as Korath (Djimon Hounsou) and his henchmen find Peter. After a shootout, Quill escapes and returns to his ship, Milano.

His partner/mentor Yondu (Michael Rooker) calls and tells him to give him the Orb. Quill decides he's going to sell it on his own.

On the Kree Warship, the Dark Aster, Korath reports to Ronan (Lee Pace) that he failed in getting the Orb and that it's in the hands of Quill. Ronan sends assassin Nebula (Karen Gillan) after him, but before she can go, Gamora (Zoe Saldana) volunteers instead.

On the planet Xandar, Quill takes the Orb to a buyer and asks what it is because Ronan's goons were after it too. The buyer suddenly doesn't want anything to do with it and kicks Peter out of his shop. Outside, Gamora jumps Peter and tries to retrieve the Orb herself. Nearby, Rocket Raccoon (voice of Bradley Cooper) and Groot (Vin Diesel) see there's a bounty on Quill's head, so they join in the fight. Its not too long before they're all arrested by Nova HQ and sent to a space prison called The Kyln. (Note: Stan Lee has a cameo appearance as an old man on Xandar, chatting up with a young lady - Rocket calls him a pervert)

Pretty much everyone in prison wants to kill Gamora because she's the daughter of Thanos. Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) has a personal vendetta against her because Ronan killed his wife and daughter, so he wants to avenge them by taking the life of one of his family members in return. Gamora explains that shes also against Ronan and was planning on double crossing him. Quill steps in and helps argue in Gamora's favor.

At Sanctuary, Ronan reports to Thanos (Josh Brolin) that Gamora is a traitor. Thanos tells him to take care of her and get the Orb. He also notes that Gamora is his favorite daughter, which pisses of Nebula (his other daughter).

Gamora has a plan to sell the Orb to someone else. Quill, Rocket and Groot agree to help and split the reward. Rocket has a plan to escape the prison. He needs one of the guards wrist devices, a prisoners prosthetic leg and a battery from a tall column in the prison. As he explains that its very important to take the battery last, Groot grabs it first. The alarms go off and security droids fly in. Gamora goes to get a wrist device as Quill negotiates the prisoners leg. Drax decides to join in the escape too realizing that eventually Ronan will go after Gamora and then he can kill Ronan himself.

Everyone gets the stuff they need and make it to a guard station near the top of the prison. Rocket is surprised that Quill actually got the leg and says he didn't really need it. It was a joke. Rocket rigs up the stuff to turn off the gravity in the prison and to use the security droids as jets to fly the guard station out of the prison. They escape, but Quill goes back and gets his walkman from one of the guards.

Yondu goes to his broker and finds out Quill still has the Orb.

Everyone on Quills ship gets to know one another better. They don't like each other at all. Soon they arrive at Knowhere (corpse of an unknown being) to meet with the Collector. While they wait for their appointment, Drax, Rocket and Groot get drunk and gamble. Gamora and Quill bond over music. He explains that his mom made him the mix tape of her favorite songs. She listens and likes it. He asks her to dance, but she doesn't. He says it reminds him of an old fable about other people who didn't dance. It was called Footloose. He makes a pass at her, but she says shes not one of the doe eyed girls hes used to and she wont fall for his pelvic sorcery.

Before they can meet with the Collector, Drax, Rocket and Groot (all drunk) get into a big fight. Drax thinks Groot is dumb and Rocket is tired of people calling him a rodent. The Collector's assistant fetches them and they all go to meet him. Drax goes off on his own and makes a call.

America: Imagine the World Without Her (2014)

This is not your typical Michael Moore movie. It is not just another documentary, but a documentary that has become a political football in Hollywood and according to a few A-celebs in Hollywood they're pushing it, because it is not too far off from the truth.

Dinesh D’Souza’s new movie, “America: Imagine a WorldWithout Her,” is a powerfuly produced defense of our country. It is in answer to the constant criticisms of America’s past and present we see today on TV and in other films. Through interviews with liberal politicians and activists, D’Souza adds up their allegations and finds answers like a public defender would.

His defense is of the nation’s foreign policy and economic system is balanced. He does a great job telling the story of America. His answers he collects from influential people he interviews are strikingly well presented and supported by well-produced recreations of history and an eclectic soundtrack of American music from all across our cultural background.

This movie will not pack the house, because it is a conservative movie from a conservative author, so it is intended mostly for conservative audiences.

Not sure why, but D’Souza missed a chance to tap some of the more intellectual minds of the political left in a good debate. The documentary points to America’s troubled past with some very cool reenactments to allow you to draw your own conclusion, so we won’t do it here.

Bestemming: Concerto for Cello, Orchestra and Narration, which Curt Lowens served as the inspiration for, was performed with Lowens appearing as the Narrator, along with Ruslan Biryukov who appeared as the Cello Soloist, supported by the Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra led by Conductor Frank Fetta.

The Consul General of Germany and the Honorary Consul of The Netherlands united with the Israeli Consulate of Los Angeles, along with Ken Howard, president of SAG-AFTRA to recognize Curt Lowens’ sacrifices for humanity.

Emmy Award-nominated composer and event co-producer Sharon Farber said, “There are precious few Holocaust survivors who are still with us – their stories should not be forgotten. I was inspired by Curt’s story, and through that inspiration I created a Concerto that has resonated across the board with anyone who has suffered through oppression. I hope that Curt’s story, as well as those of other survivors from this dark time in human history, will live forever through this concerto.”

89-year-old actor and Holocaust survivor Curt Lowens sat center stage amidst a 32-piece orchestra and delivered a narration that ended in a standing ovation for Farber’s Concerto.

Following the Concerto, an Oneg Shabbat feast as well as a private reception held by The Netherlands Consulate saw entertainment industry professionals, celebrities and other guests queuing up to be photographed with composer Sharon Farber and Curt Lowens, who received two proclamations – one from SAG-AFTRA and the other from Los Angeles Councilman Paul Koretz, who proclaimed June 13, 2014 as Curt Lowens Day in Los Angeles.

Ken Howard, president of SAG-AFTRA presented at proclamation to actor Curt Lowens on behalf of SAG-AFTRA’s 165,000 members worldwide for his service to humanity.

Howard said, “As actors, we are often called upon to play heroes, but rarely are we asked to be truly, death defying-ly courageous. Rarely do the choices we make result in the very real threat of imminent discovery and death. Rarely are we required to stand against a brutality so savage that it curdles the blood. Heroes are rare and they are precious.

“The kind of bravery that Curt Lowens showed in rescuing endangered children and downed pilots – that is rare and precious. It is rare because it requires a soul deep commitment to stand strong in the face of unspeakable evil. It requires one be a person of conviction whose actions have a profound effect on the world; a caring man and brave – whose efforts more than 60 years ago quite literally changed the world – possibly in ways we cannot fully appreciate.”

Other speakers included Rabbi David Baron of Beverly Hills Temple of the Arts at the Saban Theatre and Samara Hutman, Executive Director of the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust, who oversaw, with the assistance of Jewish World Watch, an exhibit entitled, The Future of Memory: The Next Generation, featuring portraits taken in the earliest days of the Righteous Conversations Project, a collaboration of Holocaust survivors and teens. Ilysia J. Pierce, cantor of Beverly Hills Temple of the Arts at the Saban Theatre sang The Star Spangled Banner and Israeli teenager Shir Ordo made her U.S. singing debut performing Hatikvah.

In 2013 – Renay and Sade Moore came to Los Angeles from Arkansas. They are originally from New Orleans. The family lost everything due to Hurricane Katrina. Their mother moved to Texas as part of the relocation for Katrina victims and the twins went to Arkansas with their Grandmother and Uncle. The twins lost contact with their mother and were raised by their grandma. Their lives were turned upside down again by the premature death of their grandmother.

They came to Los Angeles looking for employment and housing, but upon arrival at LAX they were so traumatized that they stayed in the airport for three weeks trying to “fit in” as travelers/tourists).

Eventually, airport security told them to leave the airport and go to a shelter. The next day the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) were alerted by Janet Denise Kelly, CEO, Sanctuary of Hope and the homeless shelter staff brought the twins to LAHSA’s office for assistance (ERT). Not only did we get them into permanent supportive housing, LAHSA helped them get a job and now both of the twins are attending attending Los Angeles Trade Technical College (LATTC,
www.lattc.edu) Los Angeles Trade‑Technical College, Downtown Los Angeles.

Part of LAHSA services includes responding to emergency calls for homeless assistance from domestic violence to abandoned families. The Emergency Response Team (ERT) is 24/7. The Team gets requests from people in need, concerned community members or groups, social service agencies, City and County departments. LAHSA provideS shelter referrals, transportation and other services and makes every effort to respond within 24 to 48 hours. It does make a difference.

We caught up with them recently as they were getting ready for an LATTC awards program that in LA this week.

“We’re so happy and so thankful to CEO Janet Denise Kelly, Sanctuary of Hope (SOH), who put us up and helped us get back on our feet,” said Renay Moore. “We are so grateful to LAHSA for giving us a chance to return to a normal, safe and secure life,” said Sade Moore, one of the twins, who received the award at a special event Friday (May 2, 2014), on the red carpet at a charity event.
The gala was a fundraiser for the LATTC Guardian Scholars Program and to salute the youth in the program who continue to demonstrate resiliency and do well in their academic studies.

The celebrity charity event featured The two star dancers, Gleb Savchenko and Julian Tocker with the hit show “Dancing with the Stars”. It was Los Angeles Trade Tech Guardian Scholars Program event, of which the two celebs are members. Most of the homeless youth that SOH provides support for in the areas of housing and other services are part of this program.

A video presentation was also shown that evening and both twin sisters thanked Director Jeanette Rowe, LAHSA Homeless Services for coming to their rescue and for helping them get housing.
Also spotlighted was Navin Bourland, one of the first homeless youth assisted by Sanctuary of Hope and LAHSA’s ERT in obtaining emergency housing.

ERT provided a hotel/motel voucher for him until they were able to find him safe and stable housing. That was almost a year ago. He is stably housed and pursuing a degree in architecture while interning for the Sanctuary of Hope.

The event was a celebration of a new beginning for three homeless youth that didn’t give up against all odds. “When you’re down on you’re luck, always believe in yourself and that someone will be there to help you,” said Sade Moore, with tears in here eyes. “People are there to help you just like they helped us.”

Liz Story, a Grammy Nominee with a big heart for charity like fallen firefighters and animal rescuer Operations Blankets of Love.

Grammy Nominee, Operation Blankets of Love’s friend and volunteer, Liz Story is playing a different tune today.

At a recent concert Liz dedicated her music to the 19 firefighters who died fighting an Arizona wildfire in June of last year.

Story is also dedicating her music to Alvin Atlas, a veterinarian who runs the Riverview Animal Clinic on U.S. 280 and to Operation Blankets of Love.

A native of California, Liz began her musical training as a young child, mastering Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 11 by the age of 11. When her family moved to Germany during her teens, she added languages, philosophy, and poetry to her studies. Story has great writeups, too in thenational and local media.

On her return to the United States, she continued her formal piano studies at the Juilliard School of Music and also enrolled at Hunter College. After hearing the jazz pianist, Bill Evans, one night at the Bottom Line in New York City, she decided to learn jazz piano and became a student of Sanford Gold, whom Evans recommended.

Later, after moving back to Southern California, she studied at the Dick Grove Music Workshops in Studio City. During her studies, she took a job playing piano in a restaurant and was suddenly thrust into improvisations when she discovered that the piano she was to perform on had no stand for her sheet music. Over several months, these improvisations developed into compositions.

Liz Story, a Grammy Nominee and Corporate Social Responsibility musician who dedicated her music to 19 fallen firefighters in the Arizona Wildfire and Operation Blankets of Love.

When Windham Hill’s founder, Will Ackerman, heard a tape of her compositions developed from her improvisations, he signed her to record her debut album in 1983, “Solid Colors”. Liz has since recorded:

'Gimme Shelter' - a Cinderella story and a film against all odds with big names like James Earl Jones, Vanessa Hudgens and Rosario Dawson

It takes a lot of calculated risk and drive to get a film like this to Hollywood. Even the movie critics before and after it's release are not happy.

Some focusing on acting or the script to the fact it is based on a very trying story of a pregnant teen named,
Agnes "Apple" Baily, played by Vanessa Hudgens (breakaway star in “High School Musical” (2006) and Spring Breakers (2012) and Sucker Punch (2011). It is quite a compelling story and eye opener if you have never experienced homelessness, where eating left over food from a garbage dumpster to sleeping in unlocked cars at night are the norm.

And if you were raised in a foster home or your mother was abusive or addicted to drugs, this film will hit home for you.

"Apple" (Vanessa Hudgens), a 16-year old pregnant homeless teen is forced to runaway from her abusive mother and even when she finds shelter and safety, the drama and challenges seem to never end. She finds herself on a desperate and isolated journey of hope and survival.

The film opens with Apple (Hudgens) chopping off her hair in the bathroom.

From there it gets intense with her drug addicted mother played by Actress Rosario Dawson. And her real, rich Wall Street father played by Brendan Fraser makes for a pretty powerful movie, especially if you've ever experience life on the streets or lived in a foster home.

The movie is inspired by the controversial true story of a strong Catholic, Kathy DiFiore and her founding of Several Sources Shelters - a maternity home for unwed mothers that has improved the lives of runaway teens in New Jersey.

DiFiore has been praised by Mother Theresa to President Ronald Reagan for her passion help homeless teens. On the red carpet in Hollywood DiFiore said she was surprised and delighted the movie made it to the big screen.

DiFiore also talked about her personal observations and the need to do more about homlessness. "We need to do more events like these (movie premiere) to make people aware of homelessness," she said.

Difiore struggled until she landed a job as a teen, later bought a house in New Jersey and started a shelter for pregnant teens, which was illegal. Later New Jersey passed state laws allowing the shelter to remain. Now, Several Shelters are in several states since Difiore launched her dream 30 years ago.

Ironically, late last year the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority's update Count of homelessness in the Greater LA area revealed that there are 57,700+ men, women and children who have no place to call home every night. There are only 4, 059 emergency shelter beds, too for all of LA County.

Even award-winning writer/director, Ron Krauss admits it was an uphill battle and in several cases there were Hollywood movers and shakers trying to stop the film from getting released. "I keep saying no, no, no."

All the more you should go see this great film 'GIMME SHELTER." It's now playing in nearly 400 theaters nationwide.

Hollywood says goodbye to lendary Publicist Julian Myers at Hollywood Museum

Legendary Hollywood Publicist, 96-year old Julian Myers, who promoted AmigoDay by winning six medals in one day at World Senior Meet in St. George, Utah was Memorialized today (Jan. 19, 2014) at the Hollywood Museum .

Julian Myers represented Elvis Presley, John Wayne, Gregory Peck, Cary Grant, Marlon Brando,Bette Davis, James Stewart, Mickey Rooney, Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe, so it was fitting that the memorial was held at the Hollywood Museum, which has 10,000 artifacts on Hollywood, including Marilyn Monroe’s 1961 Cadillac Fleetwood Chauffeur car on display on the first of four floors. Julian Myers was a big supporter of the Hollywood Museum, where he brought many celebrities for red carpet events.

At the memorial this morning, several TV news interviews of Julian were played, including a KCBS TV interview, where Myers recalled, “helping Marilyn Monroe make it to the set for a morning shoot after the actress had been out late the night before partying at an event,” he said ‘I was the only guy trying to get her out of bed,” he joked, also explaining that he “was a happily married man.”

Myers died (Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013) last month just a few months after his wife of 43 years, Patsy Nanny Myers, who died in October, in Las Vegas.

His son, a well-known New York Publicists, Eric Myers, who was the memorial MC, said of his father, “Dad was a loving father, he adored us and supported whatever we did. He was that way with every kid he met, and that side of him was treasurable,” he said.

Julian Myers other son, Jon Myers talked about his Dad as everyone’s publicist if you knew him at all. “Julian was probably everyone’s best publicity agent,” he said. “If you knew my Dad you were represented. He did a phenomenal job not just for his family members, but for everyone. I have heard so many little stories over the past week on how Julian Myers helped so many people and made

them feel welcomed.”

Jon Myers said his father had so many accomplishments and if you took one thing like winning the senior Olympics, or teaching at LMU, UCLA or USC that would be enough for one’s career. “And if you look at what he did for the motion picture industry, he was a walking historical empire,” Myers said.

Myers said his Dad had a gift, “He was gifted with what I call the ‘other oriented.’ If you were with him, it wasn’t about him, it was about you. And he knew stuff about you and when he introduced you to someone else he would say, ‘this is what this person has accomplished’. He became known as his own publicity agent, who made everyone feel good around him,” Myers said.

Myers and his wife and partner, Patsy, trademarked AmigoDay nearly a decade ago and had been promoting it ever since. “Just greet anyone anywhere, your way, any month’s first Sunday,” he said. Myers, out of more than two dozen marathons, he competed in the California State Senior Meet at CalTech in Pasadena in track and field in his age group and won five first places and a second, “to popularize AmigoDay,” Myers said.

At an Entertainment Publicists Professional Society event honoring “Legends in PR”, Julian Myers was asked what’s missing in Hollywood? He responded, “We need to bring back gimmicks,” he said. Myers was no stranger to exciting the media and public with his publicity stunts. On his 90th birthday, he invited 390 of his friends to come to a deli in downtown LA, after running the 90 miles from San Diego to end his journey on the last day of the LA Marathon. Myers has won the most medals seven-years-in-a row at the Annual Huntsman World Senior Games track meet in St. George, Utah. At today’s memorial we learned his last run nearly ended his life, but he recovered after passing out in the arms of time event staffers at the end of the race.

One of Myers' boosters was David Bowman, former actor in "Murder, She Wrote," "Dallas" and other TV series, who sometimes runs to support him on Myers' Marathons in LA and Las Vegas.

Myers competed in so many marathons all over the world, but his best marathon was surviving Hollywood for six decades of entertainment publicity, so it was only fitting that his memorial was held there today.

“We’ve had several memorial services, but this is one of the most heartfelt events we’ve had here at the Hollywood Museum," said Donelle Dadigan, founder & president, Hollywood Museum. “I want to tell the Myers family that you are so fortunate to have a great father, brother and grandfather. He was a lovely man,” she said.

“If you didn’t say anything, he could sit there and tell you interesting factoids and stories until after the sun set. He had such a rich career and I do believe it came from his personal caring. He was always so generous and helpful to us,” Dadigan said. “He was the real deal.”

Some 300 Hollywood celebs, homeless activists and stars of the new movie,”Gimme Shelter” packed into the Egyptian Theater for a powerful drama.

The special fundraiser for the homeless was staged by BubbleFishMedia, who invited homeless services nonprofits and agencies to view the film.The movie based on the life of Founder Kathy Difiore, Several Sources Shelters, Inc. brings home the plight of Mothers & babies, who are homeless. Difiore, who was on the red carpet last night said, “We need to do more for the homeless. They’re no just drug addicts, they are people who have lost their job or family support," she said.

The true story is about 16 year old street-wise Apple (High School Musical Star. Vanessa Hudgens) has never had an easy life. Her mother, June Bailey (Rosario Dawson, Sin City and Seven Pounds ), is an addict and prostitute, is verbally and physically abusive. She is grooming her daughter to follow in her footsteps, but not without a fight.

Apple knows the streets, alleys and motels like the back of her hand, but wants more from her life. She possesses a tenacious, tough, indomitable spirit and will not surrender to setback.Apple runs away from her mother and tracks down her father whom she has never known, as he was only 19 when he got Apple’s mother pregnant. Apple begs her now Wall Street Broker father, Tom Fitzpatrick (Brendan Fraser), to take her in.

In the few days under her father’s care, she learns she’s become pregnant by a kid from the streets she met on the train, who now wants nothing to do with her. The teen is forced to leave her father’s home because of her choice to keep the baby.

Apple runs away again, and is eventually taken under the wing of Father McCarthy (James Earl Jones), the chaplain of the local hospital after almost getting herself killed in a car accident.

Vanessa Hudgens, who plays the pregnant teen told USA Weekend, “Looking in the mirror was thrill,” she said. “I had the freedom to become as ugly as possible. I didn’t keep any clothes, but I took a couple of piercings as keepsakes.”

He offers to let Apple live at a shelter for pregnant young women run by a spiritual woman named Kathy (Ann Dowd). It is here that Apple begins to tentatively interact with the other girls who are in the same predicament as she and gradually begins to make a family for herself. The movie has nonstop action and throws you in the streets of homelessness from eating out of garbage cans to sleep in strangers unlock cars to survive.

Hudgens and several actors spent much time living in homeless shelters to study their true-story roles.

Just before the movie started, Director Ron Klauss told the audience the film”I met Difiore in front of a shelter. I spent a year living in the shelter to learn what it was like before shooting the movie, which took four years,” said Klauss The film is has several powerful and promising moments of domestic violence between Apple and her Mom (Rosario Dawson), who plays the addicted Mother, who won’t give up.

Two thumbs up and very true to life if you’ve been raised in a foster home. Due out Friday, January 24th.

It’It’s hard to come by an independent movie, which carries so much passion, drama and major competition that makes it to first base. But a film entitled, The Tsarevich (2013) does more than that - it’s a homerun in drama and storytelling based on real events that occurred to the Imperial family of Russia in 1918 at the verge of their execution.

“The Romanov’s story is extremely moving and it has never been told through the point of Alexei who was beloved and respected by all,” said Award-Winning Producer and Director Geoffroy Faugérolas. “Their tragic end deserves to be told so that we do not forget the details of one of the most powerful countries in the world. After the family was executed, the red army defeated the white army. Vladimir Lenin was in power to create the USSR.”

The Romanovs are being held captive by the secret police of the Bolsheviks, a communist party lead by Vladimir Lenin and under Yakov Yurovsky's watch. Alexei, the only heir of the throne that suffers from hemophilia and therefore, lives a very intricate life, where nobody sees his inner valor and strength.

It stars Mark Fitzgerald (Because These Kids Are, 2013 and What I Did Last Summer: Army Brat Blues, 2012, Christina Franco, (Barefoot, 2014, Anna Nicole, 2013 TV movie) and Mark Moses, of Desperate Housewives and Mad Men, who was a high school quarterback in Evanston, Illinois and later got into NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and graduated with a degree in theater. He immediately landed a role in the Broadway production, "Slab Boys", with Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon, and was working off-Broadway and in regional theaters when he met Oliver Stone, who cast him as "Lt. Wolfe" in the academy award-winning film, Platoon (1986). Oliver also cast Mark in Born on the Fourth of July (1989) and The Doors (1991). He brings a lot of drama to the story and film Tsarevich. The film, which is inspired by a true story is being shopped for more investors and worldwide distribution.

It’s a riveting, emotional and inspiring story of a young boy, suffering from hemophilia that fights prejudice to defend the one he loves.

The powerful story touches everyone and has a great range of characters and emotional depth to it. The Tsarevich already raised interests in European and U.S markets and will be sent to festivals worldwide.

When a Hollywood legend passes everyone stops what they're doing to see, who it was. I was lucky enough to meet A.C. Lyles, who volunteered to speak to Legendary Publicist and studio executive Julian Myers film publicity class.

I spoke to students before Lyles did, but Myers asked me to stick around to hear his legendary friend talk about his career spanning more than seven decades. I was so impressed with A.C. Lyles I waited until after the evening PR class ( 11:00 p.m.) to interview him about his life story. He was amazing and said the movie, "Wings" inspired him at age 10.

"Mr Paramount" as he was referred to often had his own personal parking space and building named after him on the studio lot. Lyles, who started out in the mail room, just like his friend Julian Myers (Twentieth Century Fox) did, produced some 40 movies and became the studio president's right hand man.

Lyles was so amazing that he called his old friend Ronald Reaganand told him, "You should run for governor and later for president." Lyles predicted Reagan's victory long before the media did, too.

Ronald Reagan appointed Lyles to the President's Advisory Council on Private Sector Initiatives in 1983, and in January of 1986 he was sworn onto the board. He regularly attended White House meetings with Reagan and his staff and attended conferences overseas. During the Reagan and George Bush administrations he also functioned as Hollywood liaison, getting celebrities to entertain at the White House and other presidential functions.

In 1984 Lyles received the George Washington Award of the Freedoms Foundation, presented to him in the Oval Office by President Ronald Reagan.

Former publicist, who became a producer of Paramount B-westerns starring veteran Hollywood actors. Lyles has left a big hole in Hollywood history and a huge vacancy at Paramount Studios. His memorial was appropriately on Veterans Day and he passed away in late September. His legacy lives on, R.I.P.

Hollywood, CA – Legendary Los Angeles talk show host, MotherLove opened at the Catalina Jazz Club and introduced some very familiar names and sounds in Jazz Music.

Jazz Master Jon Barnes teamed up with Earth, Wind and Fire’s Keyboardist Larry Dunn Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, Catalina Jazz Club. Barnes took command of the stage and orchestrated his an amazing mix of singers, bass, percussion and strings.

launched the band over the top commercially.

The talented Barnes opened the evening with a slow jazz tune on the piano and played the trumpet in one hand while hit the piano keys with other in harmony. Later smooth Jazz Singer Theresa King and Singer Myra Washington rock the house with some familiar songs and even a Beatle tune, "Come Together", which sounded more like Tina Tuner rockin' out than Washington.

Barnes recently performed at the Catalina Jazz Club (Aug. 2-3) with Arturo Sandoval and Skip Martin (Kool and The Gang former lead singer).The jazz trio performed at the daCarbo Jazz Festival this summer The European tour was also filmed as a possible upcoming documentary. All were endorsed by the one of a kind daCarbo with exclusive signature carbon-made fiber trumpets with a trademark black style and light weight. More instruments are expected. Fyi, new concept cars are being manufacured out of the same materials to lighten the load.

“Man, I wish my grandma was still alive, she wouldn't believe these famous people I've share the stay with," Barnes told the crowd at legendary jazz venue.

"She flip over if she heard me on stage with Earth, Wind & Fire's Larry Dunn," he said. "I'm gonna have to pinch myself later."

"I’m excited and living a dream," Barnes shouted

"I’m teaming up with the legendary keyboard man Larry Dunn, Theresa King, Brienn Perry, Myra Washington, Quentin Dennard and other great jazz musicians like LUis Montilla and Carlos Sanchez, so it don’t get any better,” he said.
