I lucked into a special and stumbled across Code Line&rsquo;s Art Directors Toolkit. It&rsquo;s currently at $19.99 in the App Store. That&rsquo;s still a great price for an app that is becoming and indespensible tool for me as I manage design of iOS app elements, screen capture clean up... and any number of other things that crop up when you are doing app design, marketing, PR.

It&rsquo;s turning out to be a very useful tool for setting up flash card style studying for my son. I can set up tests in the desktop app or on SimpleLeap&rsquo;s website.

Once I have the questions and answers ready for a test I can use them on my Mac or I can get their companion app and load the tests onto my iPhone or his iPod Touch. This capability makes it a wonderful tool for young and old students alike. Though they work very well together, Cram Mac is not required to make use of the iPhone version.

My son is using his iPod Touch more and more and encouraging good study habits at a young age is very important (he just finished 1st grade). One feature I&rsquo;m looking forward to working with more is the timed tests. This is going to be a great help to my son with the timed math tests they have to do in school.

<center></center>I&rsquo;m going to be working on continuing my education as well, putting this to use to help my aging memory. I am encouraging college students I work with to take a look at it to help them maintain good study habits as well.

In addition to using tests I have created, I can log in to the Test Portal and see what tests others have made and shared. I can upload my tests to the portal and share them as well.

... <center></center>It looks like this could develop into a wonderful study tool and we&rsquo;ll be making good use of it in our household for the youngest student as well as the aging one. :)

Give it a look and see if you might just find it useful for your study needs. And, if you do find it useful perhaps you will also find time to contribute some well crafted tests to the online community.

It is a &ldquo;young&rdquo; app and as such it does have some room for improvement. The developers are very responsive and I&rsquo;m sure we&rsquo;ll see steady improvements over time. I&rsquo;m looking forward to making heavy use of Cram on my desktop, iPhone and iPod Touch.

To add to the already confusing market of Twitter clients here comes a free Japanese application under the name of P3: PeraPeraPrv

<center></center>P3: PeraPeraPrv has some really nice features not found in any other clients. To begin "P3" is made entirely out of Java so it is cross platform and it is one of the first application that runs on 64-bit (greater speed and memory handling). When you select a tweet, P3 is smart enough to highlight all posts by the same author. This makes it easy to keep track of the conversation. P3 features fast and easy "one click" access to your timeline, mentions of your name, direct message, inbox, personal website and twitter search.<center></center>P3 offers the ability of applying an unlimited number of custom filters. When you right click a message another plethora of options becomes available to you. Anything from adding the message to your favorites to retweet and visiting the user's website. One feature I like about P3 is that it displays the date and time of the tweet.

It&rsquo;s not the kind of application which will cater to everyone, mainly because the interface is a mix between MS messenger, twitter and an IRC client. However, the number of options and freedom given to the user, makes it a worthy application to have on any Mac.

Yes, it gives you the info about your batteries health and the number of load cycles your battery has been through, plus it adds information about the age of your computer. The bonus is that you can save the records of your battery status, so you know how quickly your battery is aging. My recommendation would be to save the status before and after every calibration. If you think your battery is failing prematurely, you can save every few days.

This way you can quickly clear gigabytes of disk space with one single click.

I have been using Disk Inventory X for a few days and I have gained 76 GBs of hard disk space. It's so much easier to look at files in a graphic way than having to look for file information every time.

It adds in a del.ic.ious sort of bookmark discovery, enhanced Google searching and site suggestions. Soon (in Safari) it'll be able to sync your passwords, currently it is only available in the Firefox version. I'll admit I haven't tried that feature out yet, but they claim it is secure using encryption and a required PIN to sync them.

It's a rather straight forward process, all your bookmarks are saved on their servers, all you have to do is install a plugin for any browsers you use (it currently supports Safari, Firefox and IE) and sync. From there on you don't need to do anything else, it will automatically sync on its own at a regular interval, keeping you up to date no matter where you're at.

...Another feature, enhanced Google searching and site suggestions, is where the del.ic.ious element comes into play. Xmarks will highlight (via an icon next to the result) the top 3 bookmarked sites. Mousing over these icons will present more info about the site, including a preview thumbnail, reviews, popularity and topics (tags.) You can also click the "Get Site Info" button to learn more about that site and even see similar sites. I guess you could say this part brings in a bit of Stumble Upon too.

...The only issue I have with it is it's Growl settings, which can become rather annoying. As it syncs so often, you'll see that Growl an awful lot. It can be disabled, but I wish there was a setting to only sync when bookmarks are updated, as it does in the Firefox version. Aside from that, this is one app that has saved me countless amounts of time in the past year. Transferring bookmarks used to be a bit of a chore, but is made completely painless with Xmarks.

I really like the Finder-like interface, and replies are listed like threads, but if you prefer multi-columns that is an option too. Even better is the tight integration with the fabulous URL shortener tr.im, and picture tweeting with pic.im.

How cool is this? I recently tweeted a picture of my little veggie garden and 4 minutes later I could see it had been viewed 20 times, including 12 times with Firefox and 3 times from the UK and once from Sweden.

Nambu also supports Groups, multiple Twitter accounts, and persistent Twitter Search so you can track keywords in real-time. Best yet, it is currently free with no ads.

Nambu is still in beta. For me, it has been very usable, stable and takes very little system overhead. I know some people have had a couple of issues, but the only issue I have had probably wasn&rsquo;t related strictly to Nambu and went away within a day. <i>&ldquo;When you scan in each receipt or document, you enter a few pieces of information about it and then you can quickly and easily locate your receipts and documents. With Paperless, you can view the receipts right on the screen, print them, email them, or save them as PDFs.&rdquo;</i>

Keeping online receipts is a snap because you can print to PDF within the Mac OS and once Paperless is installed &ldquo;Save PDF to Paperless&rdquo; becomes one of your available options under the &ldquo;Print to PDF&rdquo; menu.

It is truly amazing how easy it is to make a presentation with impact and polish without going overboard with effects. To be sure, the ability to add effects is there but there is no compelling need to pile them on to make your point. Keynote is just <i>that</i> good.

I had the privilege of receiving version 1.0 after a Steve Jobs Keynote presentation at Macworld.

...The second gem of this trio would have to be Numbers. ... However, those who are extremely familiar with other spreadsheet apps will find some things take getting used to. But, the flexibility and again, the polish, that is built into this app makes it a joy to use, even if you aren&rsquo;t fond of dealing with numbers and accounting in general.

The third app in this suite has come a long way from it&rsquo;s first version. It is a solid word processing app for all but the most complex of projects. It handles most formatting gracefully and handles graphics with ease. I&rsquo;ve switched to it for all letter writing, fax cover sheet and standard short document work.

Each of these apps have numerous templates that come with them upon installation and there are a number of sources for templates around the web as well. One place worth looking at is the iWorkCommunity.com Template Exchange

Evernote and ShoveBox each have an iPhone app as well as the desktop app.

Evernote - &ldquo;Evernote allows you to easily capture information in any environment using whatever device or platform you find most convenient, and makes this information accessible and searchable at any time, from anywhere.   Did we mention that it's free?&rdquo;

ShoveBox - &ldquo;ShoveBox catches all those little scraps of information that you can't act on now but would rather not forget.   It sits up in your menubar, waiting for you to drag in text, images, URLs, and more.&rdquo;

SideNote - &ldquo;Sidenote tries to catch the &ldquo;Stickies&rdquo; spirit but in the form of a multi-document drawer that will hide in the corner of your screen (left or right).   You can use it to take all your daily notes, include images and easily modify text color and font...&rdquo;

I&rsquo;ve started gathering likely sources and put them in the Sidebar here on MacAppGem.com. I&rsquo;m sure there are other places I&rsquo;ve missed. I&rsquo;d like to gather as many sources as possible in the least cluttered way. Feedback and input is welcomed.

Some consistent sources for me have been MacUpdate&rsquo;s mupromo.com & MacHeist - when in season. Where else do you find deals on Macintosh software?

Mail.appetizer - &ldquo;Have a look at your incoming email without switching to Mail.   Mail.appetizer is a plug-in for Apple's Mail and integrates seamlessly.   The moment a new message is received, Mail.appetizer displays an onscreen notification window.   It gives you a brief summary of the message, so you can determine whether the message requires your immediate attention.&rdquo;

One thing that drove me nuts was that it defaults to opening in the upper right corner of the screen. I didn&rsquo;t realize when you are in the settings for it, within Mail.app preferences, that you can just move that notification window to a different place on the screen. Slightly hidden preference, but pretty slick none-the-less.

Sapiens - &ldquo;is an application launcher, it helps you access all the applications in your Mac.   Sapiens is clever because it learns from you, so unlike any other launcher it predicts the applications you will likely need and offers a visualization of this prediction in an intuitive way.&rdquo;

...Launchbar - in their words &ldquo;LaunchBar is an award winning productivity utility that provides instant access to your applications, documents, contacts and bookmarks, to your iTunes library, to search engines and more, just by entering short abbreviations of the searched item&rsquo;s name.&rdquo;

Overflow -  &ldquo;is an application designed to quickly launch applications, open documents, or access folders while reducing the number of items needed in your Dock.   Anything you want can be added to the Overflow interface, making it accessible through a few simple mouse clicks or keystrokes.&rdquo;

...It&rsquo;s a great combination with Sapiens learning my most used apps and Overflow affording me a way to organize things I want to launch, or want access to, in a way that makes the most sense to me within my particular workflow.
