Twestival Kota Kinabalu 2010

Hello friends! I’m @fooz (Jackie Miao) the lead organizer for the Kota Kinabalu Twestival 2010 that will be happening on 25th March 2010. I’m very excited to announce that for the first time ever, the city of Kota Kinabalu will be involved in Twestival Global 2010, a global initiative to raise money for @Concern Worldwide to help kids all over the world who can’t afford to go to school get an education.

So just what is Twestival? In the simplest terms it’s a Twitter festival that happens one day, once a year where people get together for a tweet-up party to raise money for charity. Last year, there were 202 cities, 1,000+ volunteers and 10,000 donors that participated in Twestival Global 2009, raising over US$250k+ to fund the building of 55 wells that directly impacted and provided clean drinking water for 17,000 people in Uganda, Ethiopia and India. This year, Twestival is back in the name of education for kids, where 100% of the funds raised will go directly into education projects in the poorest communities in the world!

We need volunteers and sponsors to make this event come to life in KK, and just like us you can help!

-How to Get Involved-

There are many ways you can help and get involved. It can be as simple as spreading the word on your blog or as fabulous as being a volunteer. So far we’ve gotten a really positive response from Sabahans in and outside of KK who can’t be happier to offer their time and effort to helping disadvantaged kids have a better future.

READING SESSION

=============WHAT IS IT ABOUT?=============

Reading Session is where the public is invited to come together and sit with the Green Leaf Theatre House Members as we act on a few short sketches (just the few pages of a play in progress). What the audience will later do is to choose your favourite sketch , and the sketch that gets the most favourite will be produced into a play!

We have a total of 5 short sketches/play that the actors will perform/act on. After the performance, there will be a Q&A session between the audience and the organizers (us) on their thoughts about the sketches.

Kejohanan Akuatik Terbuka Sabah 2010 is a two day swimming competition organized by Management Committee Aquatic Sabah and highly supported by Majlis Sukan Negeri (MSN) Sabah.

The basis of this competition is based on the following group:
Open - 18 years and above
Group I - 15-17 years age
Group II - 13-14 years age
Group III - 11-12 years age
Group IV - 9-10 years age
Group V - 8 years and below

The objectives of this swimming competition is to give young and aspiring swimmers the opportunity to experience competitive swimming. This is to motivate these young swimmers to the further develop and improve their swimming skills with the ambition to represent the state of Sabah and/or Malaysia in future international swimming competition said the Competition Director and Organizer, Mr. C S Tan. Young competitive swimmers will also be identified from this event and their recorded times can be used to qualify for SUKMA XIII in Malacca 2010.

In addition, Kejohanan Akuatik Terbuka Sabah 2010 is also a ground to unite all the swimming associations, teams and clubs in Sabah in conjunction with the 1 Malaysia vision. And also a jump start as swimmers will be able to take part in the next scheduled meet in February, which is the Sabah Age Group Meet.

To make this competition more competitive invitations have been extended to Labuan, Brunei, Sandakan and Kota Kinabalu Swimming Clubs and School's Swimming Teams.

To those of you who went to the Salsa Night at CUBE last month, remember how much fun we all had that night?

Well good news everyone! Salsa Night is back yet again!

A Night of Salsa will be held on a much bigger scale this time around; we are targeting 50 to 100 people! It will not be held in CUBE, but at
GROWBALL ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE, CENTRE POINT on 21ST November ’09, starting from 9:00pm onwards!

There will be a team of dance instructors teaching us the basic steps and once you know the steps, grab your partner or someone you like and dance all night long, so to all of you who love to dance, or have always wanted to learn Salsa, then you should definitely come to this event!

Also, there will be goodie bags from sponsors like CUBE, Imperial International Hotel, CORE, MSJ Studio, CaCa Boutique, Sabah Express, Frenz Café, Zheng Boutique and many more!

To those of you who don’t know Mei aka HoneyBee, she is not only the owner of CUBE, but also active in organizing events here in KK, like the CUBE Jazz Nights, the previous Salsa Night, etc. So this Salsa Night is also one of her projects! Sabah’s biggest charity run, the 9th Sutera Harbour 7K Sunset Charity Run 2009 is happening on Saturday, 18th July 2009 at the Sutera Harbour Marina & Country Club. Registration fees are RM25.00 per adult and RM15.00 per child/students, inclusive of a fun event T-shirt. Registrated participants will run a 7km route beginning and ending at Sutera Harbour Resort.

The fun run offers no prizes to the winners but runners who complete the 7km route within 77 minutes are eligible to win lucky draw prizes drawn at the post-Run concert. A colourful carnival is the finale for the Run and promises to be livelier and more colourful than ever this year with a host of local artistes taking centre stage. There’s something for everyone at this year’s Carnival.

The renowned Charity Run is a fun run to raise funds for the Special Olympics Sabah and the Sabah Thallasseamia Society. Special Olympics is an international program of year-round sports training and competition for more than two million children and adults with intellectual disabilities around the world. To provide benefit and service to Thalasseamia patients in Sabah and to those having interest in Thalasseamia and strive for Thalasseamia patients to get the best and most satisfactory treatment.

KOTOBIAN TADAU TAGAZO DO KAAMATAN TO ALL SABAHAN!

It's the harvest festival as the Kadazandusuns call it.Once again, the Kadazandusun and Murut Communities come together during the month of May to offer to thanksgiving to 'Bambaazon' (Rice Spirit) for a bountiful Harvest.This festival is honours to Bambaazon and also to Huminodun, the only Daughter of Kinoingan (The Creator).

According to the Kadazandusun Genesis, the Bambaazon is actually part of Huminodun's body who is sacrificed herself to save the people from starvation. Then one of the body parts of Huminodun transfigured into the rice spirit (Bambaazon) that created rice to feed the starving which is why the Kaamatan is revered, venerated and celebrated as much as it is by the people.

The Harvest Festival month-long celebration is launched on the 1st May at pre-chosen district in Sabah. The grand finale of the Kaamatan festival will be held on 30th & 31st May every year. Guest and visitor are most welcome to join this occasion. Let us make this event more merieer.

A great event is happening in Kota Kinabalu on Sunday 11th October 2009, the “Borneo International Marathon 2009”.

Take up the challenge, run for your health and also help raise funds for our official charities. This year, our theme is “The Beautiful Run” , due to our beautiful and scenic race route covering the entire city coastline of Kota Kinabalu, the capital and gateway to Sabah, the Land Below the Wind.

There will be 3 runs for this 2nd Annual Borneo Marathon – the 10km, 21km(half marathon) and 42.195km(full marathon). This is a run organized by runners for runners so you know you will be participating in a professionally organized event.
