Energy management software such as Enacto is used by large organizations to track and monitor energy use in their facilities. The software helps building managers establish energy consumption targets, analyze consumption trends, and identify and validate opportunities for energy efficiency programs that reduce energy and operational costs. 

According to the Verdantix report, the Elster EnergyICT’s Enacto solution “creates a seamless transition from M&T to continuous optimization.”  The study confirms that integrating energy monitoring and targeting functionalities with building maintenance and asset maintenance capabilities enables firms to reduce operational costs. Continuous monitoring and optimization of equipment energy use and predictive maintenance scheduling will help to reduce maintenance costs and extend the life of energy-consuming assets.

“Reducing the time required to identify equipment faults and to have those faults repaired, can help reduce operational costs associated with excessive energy use and operational disruptions associated with equipment downtime,” according to the Verdantix report. “The more detailed the information used to update and track energy use baselines, the quicker the software will be able to identify operating abnormalities, leading to faster resolutions and improved efficiency.  

Fuel for the flights was produced by AltAir Paramount LLC using Honeywell UOP's proprietary renewable jet fuel process technology, which converts a variety of sustainable feedstocks into Honeywell Green Jet Fuel™ at the world's first dedicated commercial-scale renewable jet fuel production facility. The plant, located near the Los Angeles International Airport, has also produced Honeywell Green Diesel™, a drop-in replacement for diesel made from petroleum, using the same process technology.

Honeywell Green Jet Fuel can replace as much as 50 percent of petroleum-derived jet fuel used in flight, without any changes to the aircraft technology, while meeting the current ASTM jet fuel specifications for flight. Depending on the biofeedstock, Honeywell Green Jet Fuel can offer a 65 to 85 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared with petroleum-based fuels.

Originally launched in 2004, FMA Live! is a high-energy, live stage show featuring actors, hip-hop dancers, music videos and interviews with NASA scientists. Named after Newton’s Second Law of Motion (Force equals Mass times Acceleration), the innovative program captures the audience’s attention with interactive scientific demonstrations, as it helps students understand the role physics plays in day-to-day life.

The primary goal of FMA Live! is to encourage middle school students to pursue STEM academic coursework and, ultimately, inspire them to seek careers in STEM-related fields. 

“It is critically important to get middle school-aged students aware of and excited about STEM topics, especially physics,” said Donald James, NASA’s associate administrator for Education. “We’ve seen FMA Live! make the introduction easier and, thanks to our collaboration with Honeywell, we’re inspiring students to set their sights on future careers in the critical STEM fields.”

Since its inception, FMA Live! has reached more than 455,000 middle school students across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

At CETYS University in Mexicali, Mexico, 3,000 students attended lectures and informal meetings with Nobel Laureate Wolfgang Ketterle at the Honeywell Initiative for Science & Engineering (HISE) last week, including several schools that participated via live web streaming.

They also met Craig Breese, President, Honeywell Mexico, and Barbara Brockett, VP Honeywell Aerospace Engineering Test Services, who participated in several career opportunity discussions with students. 

The program was organized by Honeywell Hometown Solutions (HHS), the company’s corporate citizenship initiative, and aimed to inspire these students by giving them exposure to world-renowned scientific minds that are making a measurable impact in today’s world. It is the sixth time HHS has brought a Nobel laureate to Mexico, and the third time to CETYS University.

Professor Ketterle delivered several lectures, advising CETYS students to follow their dreams. “There is a natural synergy between Honeywell and Nobel laureates like myself to inspire students through programs like HISE,” he told the students at his main lecture. “If you have a passion to innovate the future, you must invest all of your energy into it and make it the number one goal in your life.”

During the first segment, Cote discussed the proposed Honeywell-United Technologies merger, how it would have benefitted both companies shareowners, and why we are no longer pursuing the deal. Cote stated that the Company’s core organic growth is expected to accelerate up to 5% in 2017, and Cramer agreed Honeywell has a very bright future alone.

In the second segment, Honeywell’s Investor Day technology displays fueled the conversation of the ‘New Honeywell’, which Cramer stated as, “I see an internet of things – Honeywell – I see devices that we only dreamed about, in terms of being handheld and coordinating with our residential. I also see devices that are clearly about sustainability and energy. This is about a Honeywell that’s addressing climate change long-term.”

Focusing on software opportunities for the Company, Cote expressed his excitement in the value of the recently acquired Elster – a leading provider of gas heating, controls, metering, and advanced technologies. Honeywell is also the first large western company to be entirely CMMI Maturity Level 5 Compatible, which improves software quality, user experience, and predictability of schedule and cost.

Cote sees great opportunities within the turbocharger industry as well, stating, “I think we’re still in the early stages when it comes to turbo chargers – it offers V8 power with V6 energy usage … As the world becomes wealthier and people get more cars, people are going to say ‘how do we use less energy to do this?’. Electric cars are interesting, but it’s not going to take 100% of the stock that’s out there. It’s just not. So, turbo is going to be a great industry for a long time. And we’re advantaged because a turbo is really just an offshoot of a jet engine. We are the only turbo manufacturer that has a jet engine business.”

Key areas of the Company's global growth, such as building controls, refining technologies, and airplane connectivity were also highlighted.

As part of DARPA’s Multifunction Radio Frequency effort, Honeywell will program, update and integrate the company's Synthetic Vision Avionics Backbone (SVAB) solution on U.S. military test helicopters such as the UH-60 Black Hawk. Honeywell's technology provides pilots with the most accurate "out-the-window," 3-D view on their primary flight displays, which is critical in low-visibility environments that mask hidden dangers such as treacherous terrain, other aircraft or utility wires.
