bird and bloke is owned by a couple in love with each other and photography, living in ann arbor, michigan. even though each of these pictures represents the road to nowhere, don’t they each take you somewhere? i can feel myself walking in each of these pictures and what’s just around the corner.  it’s been really fun to use these as a starting point and see where my imagination takes me.  if i could go anywhere right now, i would cross that wooden bridge to the meadow beyond, fluff out my blanket and read all day.

i believe i’ve sprung for spring.

i can’t get enough of this artist.  living in pittsburgh, pa mundania gathers inspiration from the city surrounding her.  she sees the old demolished only to be rebuilt in a new way for a new life.  her artwork at re:constructing ideas so vividly reflects paying homage to the past while embracing the present, it’s beautiful journey to look through them all!

this handmade porcelain by samantha robinson is bold, yet delicate and feminine all at the same time.  i love the the bright colors and floral, girly patterns.  her website alone is piece of art, and each vase, kettle and tea cup i see there gets me finding the perfect place for them around my home!

suspicious easter bird

i found paper michelle this morning and haven’t stopped laughing since!  i even called the mister in to see these, so she won two laughs here. clever handmade cards are so much better than the big box store ones!

hand printed and cut without the use of computers or die cuts, these cards are truly handmade in old school style.  i think we could all use a little more humor in our lives, and these cards are an easy (and affordable!) way to get it.

well, it’s that time of year again.  time for indie businesses to shed tears over tax forms and grow a few grey hairs.  though many of you may decide to hire a professional to do your taxes, after doing a little homework you may be able to do them yourself, in true diy style. our previous shop help post on separating your finances is a good place to start, do you remember it?

though we may start out on etsy to fuel a hobby, the reality is, as soon as you sell your first item, you’ve become a business.  it’s important to stay organized and file correctly.  to help, etsy has partnered with booking business outright.com to try to make filing taxes for indie businesses a little simpler.

if you’re in the u.s. and are selling on etsy, you must file a schedule c with your income taxes (unless you’ve incorporated).  if you would like to read more on if you qualify as a hobby or a business, outright has a great article called, “business or hobby?“.

the truth is, no matter how much money you make (even if it’s just a little!) you’re still a business.  outright.com simplifies tax forms and hosts everything online which makes the headache of taxes a little less ‘taxing’.  from providing a mileage calculator to deduct your expenses to help with filing for your consultants or contractors, outright is worth any indie owner looking in to.
