Compact home gyms have arrived. What is a compact home gym anyway? Images of a unit that folds up and slides under the bed or fits easily into a closet - that&#039;s a compact home gym.</p>
<p>Storage is the issue and a major selling point with compact home gyms. Fitness is the promoted benefit but it is the convenience of the storage aspect that attracts apartment dwellers and travellers to this class of equipment. Unfortunately for many, out of sight is out of mind. It may be we&#039;re looking in the wrong closet - it&#039;s the mindset that needs a workout.</p>
<p>Maintaining Fitness</p>
<p>What do we want from compact home gyms?  It seems that, as a nation, we hold strange ideas about fitness and how to achieve it.</p>
<p>If fitness is the real issue, then pointing our attention in that direction should yield some result in &#039;getting fit&#039;. The opposite seems to be the case for an ever enlarging group of Americans. Compact home gyms can and do play a part in maintaining fitness, but they cannot replace the other parts!</p>
<p>What Is Fitness?</p>
<p>Fitness is a healthy body and mind. A healthy body can function normally in an average setting and recovers quickly from stressful engagements. A healthy mind is positive, optimistic and can focus on issues and problems that come before it.</p>
<p>Fitness is not a condemnation for personal weakness or conditions that are lacking. Fitness is a quality that raises the personal capacity to participate in life&#039;s events with a better chance of success. So, let&#039;s get fit!</p>
<p>Diet And Exercise</p>
<p>As we muster determination to improve ourselves, diet and exercise should be in top ten areas to work on. By adding one positive change to the mix of daily activities, momentum begins and that&#039;s a start. The compact home gym is a great way to add a short but effective exercise regimen to the daily routine. But instead of packing it up and putting it away, I recommend unpacking it and putting it right in the middle of the living room floor - in front of the TV.</p>
<p>Do you see where I&#039;m heading with this?  Until one&#039;s focus immediately goes to the desired action or element of positive change, some serious attention getting is still required. It&#039;s a little painful; an off track mind also acts like a muscle that is out of shape.</p>

Experts say that our exercise routine should include Aerobics, Strength training and flexibility exercise. To be fit you should do at least 30 minutes of Aerobics exercise/ any cardiovascular exercise 5 days a week. It will increase your heart rate, works your muscles, and raises your breathing rate. If you are looking for an effective indoor cardiovascular workout, an ideal workout solution that improves stamina and conditions your lower body without straining your back, knees and leg joints is an exercise bike.</p>
<p>There are three main types of exercise bikes</p>
<p>1) Upright designed<br />
2) Recumbent<br />
3) Semi recumbent</p>
<p>Upright designed bike is to ride like traditional outdoor bicycles allowing for riding while standing or in a racing position. Recumbent bike allows the rider to seat on backrest with legs out in front, which offers greater comfort for users suffering from knee or back problems. Semi-recumbent is to enable easier mount and dismount. It is best for elderly or disabled users.</p>
<p>In stationary bicycles, use of friction belts or wheels, magnets, hydraulics or fans is done for resistance. A bike may have automatic or manual resistance. Automatic resistance settings increase the intensity of resistance based on user input. The user has to physically change the resistance by twisting a large knob. Different types of resistance options are magnetic resistance, which is popular option. Belt driven fly wheel is another option, which essentially works like a traditional bicycle.</p>
<p>You can increase or decrease the resistance depending on your workout preferences, once you have begun pedaling. Beginning with light resistance and then slowly increasing the resistance is recommended by experts.</p>
<p>Now you can have display board which shows the speed, distance, resistance level, heart rate etc. A computerized workout is also given in it. Advanced models have more options for preprogrammed workouts and data about past workouts can be stored.</p>
<p>Ensure that your bike has enough space so that all its moving parts are given safe clearance. There should be adequate room to safely mount and dismount the machine. For effective workout you need to adjust the bike to suit your body. Adjust the saddle keeping it parallel to the floor. Handlebars should be adjusted to allow for a comfortable forward leaning position. You may have to make multiple adjustments in first few sessions but you must assure that it is comfortable for you.</p>

Believe it or not, there was a time when the number of gyms in the United States was fairly limited. In fact, the bulk of the gyms were present in one area: Southern California. In fact, the fitness gyms in California were the origination point of the sport of bodybuilding which yielded the expansive fitness gym business that exists today. This is why when you visit any gym in any part of the United States (or the world for that matter) you will see classic photographs from 30 or 40 years ago providing a snapshot in time image of Venice Beach and fitness gyms in California.</p>
<p>The Most Famous of all Fitness Gyms in California</p>
<p>Probably the most famous of all the fitness gyms in California was (is) Gold&#039;s Gym. The gym was the brainchild of Joe Gold and he opened the doors to the gym in 1965. Within a short period of time, Gold&#039;s gym began to attract a significant number of individuals to its premises to train for and compete in the (then) misunderstood professional sport of bodybuilding. The talent that was attracted to Gold&#039;s Gym easily eclipsed the other fitness gyms in California. Although Joe Gold ended up selling the gym and the rights to the name in 1970, the gym continued to be successful and eventually became a franchise. While it was considered a &#039;hardcore&#039; gym in the early days, it now holds the status of a mainstream gym accessible to people of all ages and walks of life. The popularity of the gym is so expansive that there are several hundred Gold&#039;s Gyms located all over the world.</p>
<p>The Special Aspect of Fitness Gyms in California</p>
<p>Because Gold&#039;s Gym embodies a certain mythic quality, the fitness gyms in California develop a certain mystique about them. Since this mystique is rooted in pop cultural history it takes on certain dimensions that resonate with American culture. How much are you willing to pay for your health?  What is your fitness price?  To even begin to answer this question then you must understand what it is that you are paying for with something like a basic treadmill. To begin to understand what it is that you are looking for you need to ask yourself four basic questions:</p>
<p>1. What is your price tag for this venture?  Are you willing to pay over $1,000 for a treadmill or is your price tag half of this number?  This is obviously contingent on where you are at in your life. Are you at a place in your life where you can afford to cough up several hundred dollars on something that isn&#039;t going to feed you or drive you to work?  What if it is the answer to feeling healthier?<br />
2. What type of treadmill do you want?  Are you basically just looking for a treadmill that will allow you to walk on it a lot or are you looking for one with all of the bells and whistles?  The basic models will be much cheaper and easier to buy, but it is worth considering the better models. Especially if you are trying to achieve a certain distance or weight loss with each run.<br />
3. Are you looking for a model with a large, powerful motor?  The motor on your treadmill can be very important since you will obviously be using it over and over again. Find a motor that is steady enough to last a good time while being strong enough to endure your body size.<br />
4. What kind of space do you have for the treadmill?  If the treadmill is a large beast then you should probably have a large room in your house in which to store it. If you have a small place that you will be in for a while it is probably worth it to get a cheaper and less bulky model.</p>

<p>You know that every one has their own option on what they would consider the best home gym. Some people would swear by the bowflex system but yet some would swear by doing yoga for being the best. It would really come down to being each would end up having their opinions. It would be hard to decipher what would be the best of most popular home gym system. Because it would really depend on just what you expect on getting out of the system yourself.</p>

Establishing a home gym exercise schedule can be a challenge. It generally takes us a while to establish our goals - fitness, weight loss, muscle toning, fitting in a bathing suit or three piece suit.</p>
<p>Make A Plan</p>
<p>Start with making a plan. With the goal in mind, ask what is possible, desired and practical?  Many people get incapacitated at this point and never proceed further than a desire or goal. But, if the goal is worthwhile, like using your home gym to get exercise, then the effort to establish a working plan is also worth it.</p>
<p>Here&#039;s how we make a start - step by step. Add one thing to the plan. One small improvement will have a cumulative effect and if this is positive, then will also help with momentum and drive toward the larger goal.</p>
<p>Don&#039;t get too grandiose at first. Simple achievements make for a great start. Running marathons comes later. They say if you want to make God laugh, just tell your plans!</p>
<p>Try Things Out For A Month</p>
<p>Change is inevitable so give your plan a little time. Again, small changes might yield big improvements, so if your exercises are too easy, up the weight or stretch them out a bit. It is a good sign and means you are working your plan. But, if you find that your home gym is out of sight or out in the hot garage, your exercise schedule may suffer. Place the home gym where exercise will be fun or at least inviting.</p>
<p>Regularity also plays a part in having your exercise plan succeed, so try to climb on the home gym every day or so, even if it&#039;s a short visit. After a month, take a look at what the routine has been and make positive modifications, whether it is to add one more exercise or one more day a week.</p>
<p>Lifestyle</p>
<p>Achieving a healthy lifestyle sounds great and even though the elements vary according to personal desires, having a conscious understanding of health is good. Establishing and keeping a home gym exercise schedule may prove to be an integral part of this healthy lifestyle.</p>
<p>Set a goal, make a plan, visit the home gym regularly, exercise your higher options and choose a healthy, happy lifestyle.</p>
