Hobbledehoy Records featured in Heidelberg Leader

Shortly after The Age Hobbledehoy feature “How Labels Are Cashing In On Music Piracy” was published, my district local-paper decided to also interview & photograph me at the state-of-the-art facility that is Hobble HQ (click here for a video tour).

After a 30 minute interview and a very awkward photo-shoot, the end result is now published (click the image to enlarge + have a read). Once again it’s chock-full of mis-quotes, but the editor/interviewer was a Blueline Medic fan which made for an enjoyable conversation.

While some testosterone-overladen boy playing gridiron who likes Nike a lot beat me to the front page, it’s still a win for this obscure little label. I think my mum has bragging rights around the supermarket now too.

Mail-ordering records is great. On occasion, a small freebie or two might arrive along with the package which is really exciting… it makes mail-order a very enjoyable way to buy music. Since the release of the Blueline Medic 42:19 LP I’ve had many requests from people to buy the test pressing (pictured – click to enlarge), but have decided the best way to let this ultra-rarity go is through a mysterious giveaway with mail-orders!

“‘Ultra-rarity’ you say?” Correct, there are only 2 test pressings in existence, both hand-numbered. This record is pressed on beautiful 180-gram heavyweight black vinyl, with the 1st pressing limited to a ridiculous 164 copies (I am downright amazed this is still in print – pictured below).

How can I win?
Order anything before Friday 13th (oooh spooky!) of November from our E-Store; vinyl, CDs, shirts… it doesn’t matter.

Hobbledehoy Records featured in Mess & Noise

The Australian Music publication Mess & Noise contacted me quickly after the July announcement of our ad-generated free download model, interested in finding out more. I later learned the interview would become part of a feature article examining three different Australian labels whom give away music to varying degrees.

The article is now online to view, sharing a degree of insight as to how & why record labels Remote Control, Incremental and Hobbledehoy each differently give away music freely.

Obviously biased, I still believe we’re the coolest of the three (or perhaps arguably the craziest…)

Hobbledehoy Records featured in The Age

I was recently interviewed / photographed for The Age Melbourne newspaper, concerning the label’s ad-supported free download model launched back in July (click here to find out more!). The feature was published today (22/10/2009), as well as being syndicated into other Australian publications such as the Sydney Morning Herald, Brisbane Times, WA Today and more.

Unfortunately I look 12 years old in the photo, and my “Craig David ‘Born To Do It” ‘esq pose isn’t exactly realistic… which I swear the photographer made me do! The Hobbledehoy feature is positioned next to a completely separate article by a different author entitled “The Foibles Of Freebies”, questioning many “free” offers online.

Darren Levin whom wrote on Hobbledehoy in “How Labels Are Cashing In On Music Piracy” I believe deserves a job well-done. You can read the article text at the link below, or alternatively click on the photo for a closer look.

Owen interview in North By Northwestern

Hobbledehoy partners with M.G. Football Club

Joining the string of indie-labels with a fascination of the world-game, I’m very excited to announce HOBBLEDEHOY is now the supporting partner for Brisbane’s Mike Goldman Football Club (or soccer / futsal club for those inclined). Featuring members of Arrows, To The North, and more; I’ll post the squad photo as soon as possible. I’m under the impression Carl Arrows is quite fond of Mr Goldman, enough to name a local sports team after him I suppose?

After finding out about the M.G.F.C, Mike Goldman himself is now in talks with the club about future promotional possibilities (seriously). Oh goodness…

The super-soft team shirt (pictured) was in our E-Store but sold out in 24 hours. If you’re still after one get in touch, with enough interest I just may reprint them…
