It appears that there is a very significant link between your cholesterol levels and your risk of heart and cardiovascular disease. By keeping these cholesterol numbers in check, we can make a big difference in our overall <a href="http://www.healthy-status.com/benefits-of-cardio-interval-training/"  class="alinks_links" onclick="return alinks_click(this);" title="health">health</a>. The problem is that cholesterol is not exactly a simple concept, in that there are two different cholesterol numbers that must be tracked. Couple that with the fact that one of these numbers needs to remain low, while the other should stay high. So which one is which, and how exactly do we get those numbers where we want them? The first step is to understand the two different types of cholesterol, and in this article we will address the issues of LDL cholesterol.</p>
<p>The &#034;Bad&#034; Cholesterol</p>
<p>It is true that LDL cholesterol has gotten a &#034;bad&#034; rap, which means that this is the type of cholesterol that needs to maintain a low number in order for you to maintain good health. LDL cholesterol is also known as low-density lipoproteins, and these lipoproteins can leave deposits of plaque on your arteries as they pass through your bloodstream. As the plaque builds, blood cannot pass through your system as efficiently and your heart has to work harder to pump the blood through your body. This strain on your heart is what increases your risk of heart and cardiovascular disease. Since this process is amplified when more of these lipoproteins accumulate in your blood, this is the type of cholesterol that you want to keep on the lower side to protect your ticker. Your target number for your LDL cholesterol should be 100 or less, and anything higher than 130 is cause for concern.</p>
<p>So how do you keep your LDL cholesterol at a healthy level? For most of us, the answer lies in healthy lifestyle choices, like a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and plenty of whole grains. It also means daily aerobic exercise that will keep the blood pumping and the lipoproteins passing through. Maintaining a healthy weight and avoiding unhealthy habits like smoking will also help to keep your LDL cholesterol level nice and low. For some, medication may be necessary to lower a number that has already gotten too high, if diet and exercise alone do not successfully bring the level down. However, these types of medications have their share of side effects and their advantages should be weighed carefully. Successfully bringing down your LDL cholesterol levels through any of these methods will lessen your risk of heart disease and lead you to a healthier way of life overall.</p>

Rows after rows of organic or alternative spices now line the cupboards in our kitchens as compared to the few we grew up with. We had salt and pepper, and maybe some garlic or onion salt. Slowly this changed to garlic powers or onion powders. We learned that the corn cooking oil we used was bad for us, and moved to olive oil and canola oil. We learned to educate ourselves on a daily basis.</p>
<p>Organic kelp granules are a wonderful salt alternative with low sodium and have iodine in it. Low temperature dried and untoasted kelp granules spice up the kitchen dishes in a healthy way with a unique flavor. I like to boil spinach pasta and add it as a flavoring. There is only 45 mg of sodium per 1/2 tsp that is very good for me also. The main ingredient is organic raw kelp.</p>
<p>Butters are becoming a thing of the past we have all grown up with. High fat content, it possibly contains residues of pesticides along with environmental toxics which both tend to concentrate in the fat. When we walk down the dairy counters at the grocery store, we have many choices available to us. At one time it was a choice between butter and margarine; now neither is totally good for us. Peanut butter is now made from whole peanuts, as compared to the original peanut butter made from sugar and salt. This healthy peanut butter avoids hydrogenated fats, which will add years to our life and our heart can maintain its low blood pressures along with normal pulses.</p>
<p>Red wine vinegarette dressings on salads and honey as sugar are just a few of the changes in the alternatives we have today for our kitchens. The old fashioned meals we ate at our grandmother&#039;s table are gone - what is available are meals with <a href="http://www.healthy-status.com/benefits-of-cardio-interval-training/"  class="alinks_links" onclick="return alinks_click(this);" title="health">health</a> in mind. Even pancakes made out of wheat  is covered with pure maple syrup instead of the sweetened corn Karo syrup we grew up with.</p>

When doing colon cleansings it is important to understand your body&#039;s natural ability to care for the colon so as not to disturb the delicate balance that happens with the electrolyte balance and the natural balance of bodily fluids. If colon cleansing is done on a long-term basis or if you do excessive cleansing you can cause problems such as anemia, malnutrition or even heart failure. It is important to understand when a colon cleanse is necessary and when it is best to let your body do its own cleansing.</p>
<p>Constipation:</p>
<p>Many individuals feel the need to do a colon cleanse when they are constipated. Constipation is your body&#039;s way of signaling the need for more fiber in the diet and the need for more water. By giving your body what it needs, more water and fiber, the constipation will correct itself. If you are younger than 50 you should be getting 25 grams of fiber a day if you are a woman and 38 grams of fiber a day if you are a man. If you are older than 50 you should be consuming 30 grams of fiber a day if a man and 21 grams of fiber a day if you are a woman.</p>
<p>There are practices that some report to be beneficial to your colon that may have harmful consequences if used incorrectly or excessively. Such practices are laxative usage, colonic irrigation and herbal cleanses.</p>
<p>Laxatives such as cascara or castor oil can cause damage to nerve cellin in the colon wall. If nerve cells are damaged the colon decreases the force of contractions, which will increase the occurance of constipation.</p>
<p>Colonic irrigation can be expensive as much as $75 for each session with up to 6 sessions being recommended. Colonic irrigation needs to be sterilized between treatments otherwise diseases can be spread from one patient to another. Heart failure can occur is excessive fluid is absorbed into the bloodsteam causing an electrolyte imbalance. There has been no licensing or training to operate a colonic-irrigation device. in 1985, a California judge ruled that colonic irrigation was an invasive procedure and said that it may not be performed because it did no good and could only bring harm. <p>If you smoke a pack of cigarettes a day, your risk of having a heart attack is twice that of a nonsmoker. If you smoke, have hypertension, and eat a diet high in fats without any exercise at all, your risk is five times greater than normal.</p>
<p>The Healthy Heart</p>
<p>If these risk factors endanger the heart&#039;s health, what enhances its well-being and improves its odds of working long and well?</p>
<p>Obviously, quitting cigarettes and eating a low-fat diet will help. The next best thing you can do for your heart&#039;s sake is to give it what it needs: regular exercise or a complete cardio interval training.</p>
<p>The heart is a muscle, or, more accurately, a group or &#034;package&#034; of muscles, similar in many ways to the muscles of the arms and legs. And just as exercise strengthens and improves limb muscles, it enhances the health of the heart muscles as well.</p>
<p>Since World War II, several large-scale statistical studies have evaluated the relationship between physical activity and cardiovascular disease. One well-known survey compared 31,000 drivers and conductors of some bus companies. The more sedentary drivers had a significantly higher rate of heart disease than the conductors, who walked around the buses and climbed stairs to the upper level.</p>
<p>The why and how behind these statistics were bet explained by classic experiments with dogs whose coronary arteries were surgically narrowed to resemble those of humans with arteriosclerosis. Dogs who were exercised were had much better blood flow than those kept inactive.</p>
<p>The exercise seemed to stimulate the development of new connections between the impaired and the nearly normal blood vessels, so exercised dogs had a better blood supply to all the muscle tissue of the heart. The human heart reacts in the same way to provide blood to the portion that was damaged by the heart attack.</p>
<p>To enable the damaged heart muscle to heal, the heart relies on new small blood vessels for what is called collateral circulation. <p>There is a condition known as pregnancy gingivitis and approximately half of all women will experience it. Unlike regular gingivitis this type can cause a certain level of pain and discomfort and bring on such symptoms as bleeding, redness, swelling, puffiness, and tenderness in the tissues of the gums. If pregnancy gingivitis is allowed to develop into the more serious periodontal disease then the attachment fibers of the teeth can weaken and bone loss and loosened teeth can result. This can inadvertently affect the <a href="http://www.healthy-status.com/benefits-of-cardio-interval-training/"  class="alinks_links" onclick="return alinks_click(this);" title="health">health</a> of the baby, both before and after he or she is born.</p>

The roots of the teeth will then be smoothed down in order to get rid of the bacteria and toxins that reside there.</p>
<p>Scaling and root planing are dental procedures that can be very effective at decreasing the risk that a woman with gum disease will suffer a preterm birth. These procedures are also effective at reducing many of the uncomfortable symptoms that accompany gum disease such as redness, swelling and tenderness of the gums.</p>
<p>In order to decrease your chances of a premature birth and all of the problems that this brings a woman should take a multivitamin supplement every day that contains at least 400 micrograms of folic acid which is a B vitamin, both in the months before she becomes pregnant and during her pregnancy. She should also give up smoking and drinking and engage in neither during her pregnancy. Even one drink and one cigarette can be harmful to a developing fetus. Always follow your doctor&#039;s and dentist&#039;s orders and take as good of care of your health and your body as you possibly can.  </p>
