Remedies For Puffy Eyes

Remedies For Puffy Eyes

* Take a metal spoon and run it under cold water. Place the metal on the puffy area for at least 60 seconds.

* Apply hemorrhoid cream (look for brands that contain ingredients of yeast and shark's liver oil) to the puffy area. Insiders have known for years that in just the way it gets the swelling out of that other area, it works the same way for the face.

* Thin cucumber slices used as compresses over closed eyes will relieve sore, puffy eyes.

* A black tea bag soaked in cold water on each eye for ten minutes will reduce swelling caused by fluid retention. Gently press from inner to outer corners to hasten drainage.

* Avoid salty foods, which cause the under eye area (and the rest of your body) to hold fluid.

* Elevate your head when you sleep, to keep fluid from settling around your eyes.

Younger looking eyes

The first step is to reduce fine lines. So apply a little eye cream on the brow bone and under the eye.

Next dab on a concealer that matches your skin tones.

The last step is to line the eye with a white pencil just beneath the lash line. This will give the impression of larger and brighter

Dental Care

Dental Care

This is not the kind of article that will immediately grab your attention. I mean, it is about gums and teeth so who cares right? Right. So you can just skip this section you've got nothing to lose - but your teeth. *A brush up on brushing
*Are you doing it right?
Let us start from the basics. What is plaque? It is a sticky film of bacteria that keeps forming inside your mouth. Though this bacteria is not harmful in itself, if it is allowed to remain on the surface of your teeth for more than 24 hours, it organizes into colonies and starts producing harmful enzymes.
So the key to keeping teeth and gums healthy is plaque removal. As long as plaque gets removed every 24 hours, the build up process never gets started. The best way to remove plaque is, of course, brushing teeth regularly. How often is enough? If anyone tells you that you should brush teeth after every meal, you can just let it in one ear and out the other. The worst thing you can do to teeth is brush them more than twice a day. Excessive brushing erodes your teeth, causing a breakdown of the entire periodontal structure and is a sure-fire path to a mouthful of crowns by your 40th birthday. So if you feel your teeth are extra sensitive, for example if they tingle too much when you are sipping cold water, it's time you sat up and paid attention.
Use a soft toothbrush and change it often. An old toothbrush may succeed in getting the gunk off your teeth, but if the bristles are rough - which they will be before long, you will be causing more damage than good.

you doing it right? you doing it right?

Women And Their Reproductive Health

I dream of Pakistan, an Asia, of a world where every pregnancy is planned and every child conceived is nurtured, loved, educated and supported.” -- Benazir Bhutto, ICPD (1994)
Pakistan with an approximate population of 170 million is the current sixth most populous country in the world. Projected estimates suggest that at the current rate, by 2050 Pakistan’s population will explode to be around 295 million making it the fifth most populous country globally. Demographically we have a huge youth population, 41% who are below 14 years of age.
Judging by these figures one would expect excellent infrastructures, policies, strategies and procedures to help promote health rights for the 170 million Pakistani population. However, this dream is a far cry from actual situation. In addition to many other poor-development-related indicators, Pakistan sadly has some of the worst health indicators in the world. Narrowing down the health indicators to reproductive health, the situation just grows dimmer.
Our Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) is 78 deaths per 1,000 live births, while the under-5 year mortality is 94 deaths per 1,000 live births. Even more shocking is the Mother Mortality Rate (MMR) which is 276 deaths per 100,000 live births. The figure of 276 is an average; the actual MMR in rural areas is as high as 319 MMR deaths.
Only 34% of births take place in health facilities while the remaining 65% of births take place at homes; 35% of pregnant women receive no prenatal care at all. Taking another perspective of reproductive health, it is estimated that on an average every Pakistani woman would experience abortion at least once in her life time, whether induced or natural. Despite such a high number of abortions, only 4-7% of women go to trained service providers for abortion.
The issue of family planning and using contraceptives has always been highly controversial and fundamentalists have always chosen to term it ‘illegal’ under the name of religion. Therefore, the use of modern contraceptives with married women is 22% whilst there is an unmet demand of 25%. However, it is interesting to note that other Islamic countries such as Bangladesh and Iran have implemented highly successful family planning models in their respective countries.
There are many reasons that can be attributed to these poor reproductive health indicators in Pakistan but by far the single biggest issue is the lack of empowerment enjoyed by women in our society. It is traditionally deep rooted in our culture and society to treat women as ‘second class’ citizens. It is always the women of the house who have to make do with lesser food to ensure that the male members get enough nutrition. As a result sadly only four in ten women take iron or calcium supplements during pregnancy, which ultimately results in the poor health of both the mother and child.
In addition to this the common desire to have more male heirs result in subsequent multiple pregnancies for women and this severely affects their health. In a highly patriarchal society like ours, all decisions are taken by men. Men decide how many children a woman should have; they decide if their wife can go visit a trained health service provider to seek medical attention during the crucial periods of pre and post natal. And under no circumstances can a woman decide whether to use contraceptives or not. So ultimately it is the men who literally control the reproductive health of women.
When talking about reproductive health it should also be highlighted that if proper decisions and care are not taken, it can have long term irrevocable consequences. Some diseases that affect our reproductive organs can result in lifelong infertility, both in men and women. For a woman not being able to produce a male heir is in itself such a highly stigmatised issue but for a woman not to conceive at all - is the ultimate nightmare of any Pakistani woman.
Men in our society generally, do not even consider visiting a doctor to discuss their reproductive health issues. Strangely, and mainly due to the large level of ignorance prevalent in our society, men tend to believe in the myth that they are immune to reproductive health issues. They tend to think that such issues are purely women-oriented and not related to them. However, this is not the case and there have been examples whereby married couples have been able to have children after men have undergone simple fertility treatments. In many cases of sexual diseases, the cure is incomplete and insufficient unless both the husband and wife take the same course of treatment at the same time to cure themselves. Otherwise the disease will simply keep re-occurring.
In order to combat such a complex situation it is imperative that policy makers (especially parliamentarians) are approached and updated with the situation. It is interesting to note that while the government has access to all the funds needed to implement large scale advocacy campaigns needed to bring about change, it is the civil society who has access to the on-ground situation and information. Therefore strong synergies and collaborations need to be developed between the government and civil society.
A recent example of such a synergy was formed by Church World Service-Pakistan/Afghanistan and the Health Standing Committee in Islamabad. Among the parliamentarians present were Dr. Mahreen Razaq Bhutto, Parliamentary Secretary Health; Dr. Nadeem Ehsaan, Chairman Standing Committee on Health and eight other parliamentary members of the Health Standing Committee including Dr. Doniya Aziz and several other prominent parliamentarians.
During the meeting a call for action was drafted and some of the recommendations made included to considering Reproductive Health as a National Priority with a rights based approach and develop a holistic and sustainable approach to reproductive health coupled with a strong political will to translate international commitments into actions. It was also strongly recommended that efficiency and coordination between various ministries departments need to be increased, a culture of responsibility and accountability needs to be developed and strong monitoring mechanisms need to be in place to reduce the infant, child and maternal mortality rates and there is a need to review the progress of the ICPD Plan of Action. Gender sensitive policies and programmes regarding reproductive health need promotion and meaningful participation of stakeholders in all policy making and programme implementation processes need to be encouraged to address specific need of each group to enhance ownership.
We need to ensure that the promises of Pakistan in the international community, especially the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), do not become mere aspirations and concrete steps need to be taken towards the realisation of giving the women in Pakistan access to better and informed choices regarding their reproductive health. This can only be achieved using multi-pronged strategies that aim at educating not only women on their health rights but sensitising men too at the same time. In our society, unless informative education is provided simultaneously to both genders, it will have very little impact on improving the reproductive health status of women.

Pimples-home remedy

Lemons, tomatoes and witch hazel are all proven to fight and keep acne at bay. Lemons and tomatoes are both fruits, yes fruits, with a second quality not known to all humankind. What you want to do is cut it open. Cutting it in fours goes a long way. Take each piece of lemon or tomato and rub it on your face. You may have a little something left on your face. Just leave it there. It's for your own good. They will make pimples disappear almost overnight. It they don't disappear they will be smaller the next time you check.

Another overnight home remedy for zapping a zit is to put a dab of toothpaste on it to help dry it out. You may need to test this on a short-term basis to make sure it doesn't irritate your pimple. Calamine lotion will have the same drying effect.

Avoid turn-up trousers or stiff fabric.

Do wear v-necks, jumpers or shirts with a vertical pattern, shirts with narrow or open collars,

ties in a single discreet colour, subtle pinstripes and high-buttoned jackets with three or even four buttons.

Do wear tighter lightweight tops in dark colours, fine knitwear that skims rather than swamps the body, and wear easy/relaxed-fit jeans.

LeanDon't wear v-neck shirts or jumpers and avoid narrow ties.

Don't wear vertical stripes, pinstripe suits, shiny fabrics or very tight fitting tops that hug your shoulders tightly.

Do wear padding in jackets and waistcoats over T-shirts, check suits and double-breasted jackets.

Do wear baggy low-slung combat trousers, cargo pants with pockets on the sides, horizontal details on tops,

bulky knit sweaters and polo necks. Button shirts up to the max.

Large stomachDon't wear waistcoats or anything too small that will strain across a larger stomach.

Don't wear man-made fibres that cling to a bulge and go static.

Avoid wearing trousers over your stomach. Avoid double-breasted jackets or suits, shiny fabrics or lighter colours.

Do wear loose-fitting clothes - darker shades in cotton or linen. Buy trousers big enough to

do up on the stomach, and make sure ties are wide and end on your waistband.

Do wear a jacket and trousers in the same colour; go for single-breasted jackets every time.

Big bottom

Don't wear trousers in camel, white and bleached denim; avoid jeans with fussy details.

Don't wear trousers in shiny fabrics or low-cut trousers that reveal any hint of a builder's bum when you bend over.

Do wear dark colours on the bottom half, including dark denim jeans or chino-style trousers.

Do wear trousers in plain and matt fabrics, plain jeans with minimal detailing and loose

or baggy fit jeans without the underwear poking out.

Hair styles for different face shapes

Round: Avoid a square haircut - leave hair longer on top and full at the sides and stick to medium-length sideburns.

Long: Widen and shorten the forehead by going short and close at the ears and on top of the

head. Avoid puffy styles and add volume at the sides, not the top, and opt for a side parting.

Heart-shaped: Go flat at the sides and ruffled on top. Keep hair around the sides of the face

as straight as possible and grow some stubble to balance out the face.

Oval: Lucky you - you can go for a variety of shapes, so enjoy

Swine flu

Swine influenza (also called swine flu, hog flu, and pig flu) is an infection by any one of several types of swine influenza virus. Swine influenza virus (SIV) is any strain of the influenza family of viruses that is endemic in pigs.[2] As of 2009, the known SIV strains include influenza C and the subtypes of influenza A known as H1N1, H1N2, H3N1, H3N2, and H2N3. Swine influenza virus is common throughout pig populations worldwide. Transmission of the virus from pigs to humans is not common and does not always lead to human influenza, often resulting only in the production of antibodies in the blood. If transmission does cause human influenza, it is called zoonotic swine flu. People with regular exposure to pigs are at increased risk of swine flu infection. The meat of an infected animal poses no risk of infection when properly cooked. During the mid-20th century, identification of influenza subtypes became possible, allowing accurate diagnosis of transmission to humans. Since then, only 50 such transmissions have been confirmed. These strains of swine flu rarely pass from human to human. Symptoms of zoonotic swine flu in humans are similar to those of influenza and of influenza-like illness in general, namely chills, fever, sore throat, muscle pains, severe headache, coughing, weakness and general discomfort.

The health ministry on Monday confirmed the country’s first swine flu case but stressed that the patient was in a stable condition. ‘Swine flu was detected in one patient at the national institute of health Islamabad,

Dr Rashid Juma, a health ministry official said.Meanwhile, federal Minister for Health Ijaz Hussain Jakhrani told the National Assembly that precautionary measures had been taken.

We have taken precautionary measures at our airports, ports and bus stops and health officers have also been alerted, Mr Jakhrani told the house. Around two million Pakistanis live in Europe, North America and other countries where the swine flu pandemic has appeared. —DAWN newspaper

You've heard many times that "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day." Now, recent research confirms that one of the worst practices you can develop may be avoiding breakfast.

Why?

Because the frequency of heart attack, sudden death, and stroke peaks between 6:00a.m. and noon, with the highest incidence being between 8: 00 a.m. and 10:00a.m. What mechanism within the body could account for this significant jump in sudden death in the early morning hours?

We may have an answer.

Platelet, tiny elements in the blood that keep us from bleeding to Death if we get a cut, can clump together inside our arteries due to cholesterol or laque buildup in the artery lining. It is in the morning hours that platelets become the most activated and tend to form these internal blood clots at the greatest frequency.

However, eating even a very light breakfast prevents the morning platelet activation that is associated with heart attacks and strokes. Studies performed at Memorial University in St. Johns, Newfoundland found that eating a light, very low-fat breakfast was critical in modifying the morning platelet activation. Subjects in the study consumed either low-fat or fat-free yogurt, orange juice, fruit, and a source of protein coming from yogurt or fat-free milk.

So if you skip breakfast, it's important that you change this practice immediately in light of this research. Develop a simple plan to eat cereal, such as oatmeal or Bran Flakes, along with six ounces of grape juice or orange juice and perhaps a piece of fruit. This simple plan will keep your platelets from sticking together, keep blood clots from forming, and perhaps head off a potential heart attack or stroke.

So never ever skip breakfast.

Mouthwatering Watermelon

On a hot summer day, nothing refreshes quite like a crisp, juicy slice of cool watermelon.

Whether you're chomping into watermelon, enjoying it as part of a fruit salad or slurping

on a watermelon smoothie, that red pulp provides a powerhouse of nutritional value.

Good source of vitamin A

Vitamin A helps your eyes see normally in the dark,

promotes the growth and health of cells and protects against

infection by helping to maintain healthy skin and tissues.

Vitamin A also is involved in hearing, taste, growth,

and the normal development of fetuses. A 2-cup serving of

watermelon provides 20 percent of the recommended

daily intake for vitamin A.

Good source of vitamin C

Probably vitamin C's most well known role

is as an antioxidant protecting body cells from damage by free radicals

Studies have shown that cell damage by free

radicals may lead to chronic health problems, including cancer and

heart disease.

Vitamin C also boosts the body's ability to

fight infection and helps keep capillaries and gums healthy. A 2-cup

serving of watermelon supplies one-fourth

of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C.

Contains lycopene

Watermelon contains 15-20 milligrams of the

plant pigment lycopene per 2-cup serving. Lycopene is thought to have

powerful antioxidant capabilities that may

help reduce the risk of cancer and other diseases. Found only in a few red

plant foods like tomatoes and watermelon,

lycopene, like vitamin C, neutralizes cell-damaging free radicals.

Provides potassium

Watermelon, like most fruits and vegetables,

is a good source of potassium. Foods high in potassium seem to help

protect against high blood pressure. Potassium

also helps regulate fluids and mineral balance in and out of body

cells, aids in muscle contraction and helps transmit nerve impulses.

Fat and cholesterol-free

Among its other health benefits, watermelon is

naturally low in fat and is cholesterol-free. Research suggests that

diets moderate in fat and cholesterol promote

health and may aid in the prevention of certain chronic diseases.

Low in calories, yet filling

A 2-cup serving of watermelon has only

100 calories. However, as a result of its high water content, watermelon is

quite filling. Because of these qualities, Weight

Watchers named watermelon its Pick of the Season Product Item this

spring.

Selection tips

How do you know you're getting a good

watermelon? The National Watermelon

Promotion Board offers these tips:

1) Look it over - choose a melon that's symmetrical and free of bruises,

cuts and dents

2) Lift it up - it should be heavy for its size

3) Turn it over - it should have a creamy yellow spot on

the underside where it sat on the ground and ripened in the sun.

Safety reminder

As a fresh agricultural product, it's important to wash

the outside of a watermelon with tap water before you cut it open.

This will help prevent the spread of bacteria from

the outside surface to the interior of the melon.

hot and preferably with Chilli Tomato Sauce

Tips On Preventing And Fixing Bad Breath

Many people have bad breath without even realizing it. This can cripple your likelihood of enjoying a healthy social life, finding a significant other, and even advancement in your career. Halitosis or bad breath is mostly a result of poor hygiene and is completely treatable. It is quite easy to prevent and fix bad breath with the following guidelines.

Brush your teeth and scrape your tongue first thing every morning, and also after each time you take a nap. Foul-smelling bacteria have had a chance to take over your mouth while you slept, and are most likely causing yucky "morning breath." Tongue scrapers can be found in most health food stores, and also in drug stores and convenience stores as they become more popular.

After you brush your teeth and scrape your tongue, rinse your mouth thoroughly and gargle with fresh, cool water. This is a very important step, one that many people overlook. Nobody likes to smell your breath when it's laden with dirty, used toothpaste scum.[/url]

Drink plenty of water - Insuring that you drink plenty of water throughout the day can help to control bad breath (halitosis). This can be an especially important consideration for those people who suffer from xerostomia (chronically dry mouths).

Since I am diabetic,
I tried it and it was very useful and mySugar is in control now. In fact I have already reduced my medicine.

Take two pieces of Lady Finger (Bhindi) and remove/cut both ends of eachpiece. Also put a small
cut in the middle and put these two pieces inglass of water. Cover the glass and keep it at room temperature duringnight. Early morning, before breakfast simply remove two pieces of ladyfinger (bhindi) from the glass and drink that water.

Keep doing it on daily basis.

Within two weeks, you will see remarkable results in reduction of yourSUGAR.

My sister has got rid
of her diabetes.
Health Benefits Of Papaya‏....

Health Benefits of Papaya

VITAMINS

o Vitamin A : 1,750 I.U
o Vitamin B : Thiamine 0.03 mg.
o Riboflavin : 0.04 mg.
o Niacin : 0.3 mg.
o Vitamin C : 56 mg.
o Also contains Vitamin E and K.

MINERALS

o Calcium : 20 mg.
o Iron : 0.3 mg.
o Phosphorus: 16 mg.
o Potassium : 470 mg.

FAT : 0.1 gm.

CAROHYDRATES : 10gm.

PROTEIN : 0.6gm.

CALORIES : 39

Heart disease: Papayas may be very helpful for the prevention of atherosclerosis and diabetic heart disease.

Papayas are an excellent source of vitamin C as well as a very good source of vitamin E and beta-carotene,

three very powerful antioxidants.

These nutrients help prevent the oxidation of cholesterol. Only when cholesterol becomes oxidised is

it able to stick to and build up in blood vessel walls, forming dangerous plaques that can eventually

cause heart attacks or strokes.

High cholesterol: Papayas are also a very good source of fibre, which has been shown to lower high cholesterol levels.

The folic acid found in papayas is needed for the conversion of a substance called homocysteine into benign amino acids.

If unconverted, homocysteine can directly damage blood vessel walls and is considered a significant risk factor for a heart attackor stroke.

Cancer: Papaya's fibre is able to bind to cancer-causing toxins in the colon and keep them away from the healthy colon cells.

In addition, papaya's folate, vitamin C, beta-carotene, and vitamin E have each been associated

with a reduced risk of colon cancer. These nutrients provide synergistic protection for colon cells

from free radical damage to their DNA.

Increasing your intake of these nutrients by enjoying papaya is an especially good idea

for individuals at risk of colon cancer.

Inflammation: The enzymes contained in papaya have been shown to help lower inflammation

and to improve healing from burns.

In addition, the antioxidant nutrients found in papaya are also very good at reducing inflammation.

This may explain why people with diseases that are worsened by inflammation, such as asthma,

osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, find that the severity of their condition is reduced when they

get more of these nutrients.

A July 2004 study indicates that vitamin C-rich foods, such as papaya, provide humans with protection

against inflammatory polyarthritis, a form of rheumatoid arthritis involving two or more joints.

The findings, presented in the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases were drawn from a study

of more than 20,000 subjects who kept diet diaries and were arthritis-free when the study began.

Subjects who consumed the lowest amounts of vitamin C-rich foods were more

than three times more likely to develop arthritis than those who consumed the highest amounts.

Other benefits: The fibre found in papayas may also help with the symptoms of

those suffering from irritable bowel syndrome.

In addition, vitamin C and vitamin A, which is made in the body from the beta-carotene in papaya,

are both needed for the proper function of a healthy immune system. Papaya may therefore be a

healthy fruit choice for preventing such illnesses asrecurrent ear infections, colds and flu.

The Ayurveda experts have regarded papain as a remedy for abdominal disorders.

It is a good medicine for dysentery, hyperacidity, dyspepsia and constipation.

Pimples are removed by rubbing the white pulp of raw papaya on the face.

It bringslustre to the face and removes wrinkles.

The ripe fruit is easily digestible and prevents constipation.

Case studies indicate that this food taken alone for two or three days has a

highly beneficial tonic effect upon the stomach and intestines.

The juice of the papaya aids in relieving infections of the colon and has a tendency

to break down pus and mucus reached by the juice.

May help prevent cancer in organs and glands with epithelial tissue (ripe papaya).

Papayas fiber is able to bind to cancer-causing toxins in the colon and keep them away from the healthy colon cells. In addition,

papayas folate, vitamin C, beta-carotene, and vitamin E have each been associated with a reduced risk of colon cancer

Prevents nausea (includes morning sickness and motion sickness)

The seeds are antihelmintic, for expelling worms and they are given with honey.

Chew and swallow two teaspoonfuls of seeds after each principal meal (three times a day).

No Breakfast

People who do not take breakfast are going to have

a lower blood sugar level.

This leads to an insufficient supply of nutrients

to the brain causing brain degeneration.

2. Overeating

It causes hardening of the brain arteries, leading

to a decrease in mental power.

3. Smoking

It causes multiple brain shrinkage

and may lead to Alzheimer disease.

4. High Sugar consumption

Too much sugar will interrupt the

absorption of proteins and nutrients causing

Malnutrition and may interfere with brain development.

5. Air Pollution

The brain is the largest oxygen consumer

in our body. Inhaling polluted air

Decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain,

bringing about a decrease in brain

Efficiency.

6. Sleep Deprivation

Sleep allows our brain to rest. Long term

deprivation from sleep will accelerate the

Death of brain cells.

7.. Head covered while sleeping

Sleeping with the head covered, increases

the concentration of carbon dioxide and

Decrease concentration of oxygen that may

lead to brain damaging effects.

8. Working your brain during illness

Working hard or studying with sickness may

lead to a decrease in effectiveness of

The brain as well as damage the brain.

9. Lacking in stimulating thoughts

Thinking is the best way to train our brain,

lacking in brain stimulation thoughts may

Cause brain shrinkage.

10. Talking Rarely

Intellectual conversations will promote

the efficiency of the brain.

Drink Milk To Quit Smoking! ....

Milk not only does the body good it may also help you quit smoking, says a study.

Consuming milk makes the taste of cigarette bad and by making a few modifications

to the diet one can make quitting bit easier, said the study published in April 2007

issue of the journal Nicotine and Tobacco Research.

The study is said to be the first to explore the taste-altering effects of

food and beverages on cigarette palatability.

The study examined 209 smokers and asked them to name items that worsen or

enhance the taste of cigarettes.

Nineteen percent of them reported that dairy products, such as milk or cheese,

worsen the taste of cigarettes; 14 percent reported non-caffeinated beverages,

such as water or juice; and 16 percent reported fruits and vegetables.

Forty-four percent of them reported that alcoholic beverages enhance the taste of cigarettes;

45 percent reported caffeinated beverages, such as tea, cola and coffee;

and 11 percent reported meat.

Identifying which components of foods and beverages ruin the taste of cigarettes

could lead to new treatments to deter smoking, said co-investigator

Jed E. Rose of the Duke University Medical Center study.

The researchers are now looking at the possibility of using the chemical

silver acetate, known to alter the taste of cigarettes, to help smokers quit.

The additive could be given in the form of a gum or a lozenge as part of

smoking cessation treatment, according to a science portal, EurekAlert.

Athlete's Heart.....

Athlete's heart

"Athlete's heart" is a common term for an enlarged heart associated with repeated strenuous exercise.

Due to the increased workload required of it, the heart will increase physiologically by enlarging

its chambers and muscle mass, thus increasing the volume of blood pumped per stroke. As a result,

the heart has to contract less frequently and at rest will beat as few as 40 times per minute.

The average number of beats per minute in a non "athlete's heart" is 70 beats. "Athletes heart"

is not pathological, and there is usually no danger of cardiac disability arising from it.

The human heart is a pear-shaped structure about the size of a fist.

The heart is an amazing organ. It is responsible for supplying the body with oxygenated blood.

Each time the heart beats, it exerts a pressure on the veins and arteries called blood pressure.

Blood pressure is extremely important and must be controlled if it is too high or low.

Blood pressure can be controlled by medication prescribed by your doctor, proper

exercise and a diet filled with plants and vegetables.

The heart is made of a special kind of muscle called myocardium, and is enclosed in a

double-layered, membranous sac called a pericardium.
The heart lies in the chest cavity between the lungs. It is composed of four chambers,

many large arteries and many veins.

The four chambers are called atrium and ventricles. A wall of muscle divides the heart into two cavities:

the left cavity pumps blood throughout the body, while the right cavity pumps blood only through the lungs.

Two chambers of the heart lie in the left cavity and two chambers lie in the right cavity.
The two upper chambers of the heart are called atrium, the bottom chambers are called ventricles.

The right side of the heart receives deoxygenated blood from all parts of the body except for the lungs.

left side of the heart receives oxygenated blood from the lungs and pumps it to the rest of the body.

An adult heart beats approximately 100,000 times a day, pumping about 2,000 gallons of blood.

It has been estimated that the heart will beat about 3 billion times during a 70 year lifetime.

Your heart pumps nearly five quarts of blood through your body every 60 seconds.
Given the heart's arduous task of supplying the body with blood every day, it must be well taken care of.

A heart that is improperly cared for may develop heart disease. Heart disease is the leading cause of death among Americans.

Each year there are more than 1.1 million heart attacks in the United States.

Unfortunately, of these heart attacks, 250,000 are sudden, causing the patient to die within an hour.

Heart disease is often treated by eating foods with low cholesterol, weight loss, exercise and medical treatment.

If you would like to know if weight loss will decrease your chance of heart disease, determine your body mass index.

Intake of healthy foods like oranges, avocados, and broccoli will also decrease the possibility of developing heart disease.

Heart Attack and strokes are the outward signs of heart disease, namely the accumulation of arterial plaque

which slowly constricts or closes arterial passageways, causing life threatening conditions.

Heart disease does not happen overnight, but is a life-long progression.

The heart responds to many heart and circulatory conditions by enlarging up to 4 times its normal size.

An enlarged heart is common in atrial fibrillation and long standing high blood pressure patients.

In fact, his research revealed that the cocoa extract was even more effective than fluoride in fighting cavities.

The extract, a white crystalline powder whose chemical makeup is similar to caffeine, helps harden teeth enamel, making users less susceptible to tooth decay. The cocoa extract could offer the first major innovation to commercial toothpaste since manufacturers began adding fluoride to toothpaste in 1914.

The extract has been proved effective in the animal model, but it will probably be another two to four years before the product is approved for human use and available for sale, Sadeghpour says.
But he has already created a prototype of peppermint flavored toothpaste with the cavity-fighting cocoa extract added, and his doctoral thesis research compared the extract side by side to fluoride on the enamel surface of human teeth.
Sadeghpour's research group included scientists from Tulane, the University of New Orleans, and Louisiana State University's School of Dentistry.

..

Back Pain

## Eye Care ##

Take a break

Working for hours in front of computers is a main reason for weak vision. Take a break after every 40 minutes work during which look at greenery or any far off object.

When your eyes look reddened or feel itchy, wash them with cold water or use fresh rose water to soothe them. You can also use a slice of cucumber or potato as they are very helpful in lessening eye irritation.

Protect them from sun

Direct exposure to sunlight is harmful for the retina; to protect eyes from UV rays always carry your shades when going outside. Go for sunnies in colours of brown, amber or orange. You can also use a wide brimmed hat for sun protection. People who work in areas of flying particles or dust must use glasses.

Look out for warning signs

If you hold objects very close when looking at them, feel dizziness or headaches, suffer from lack of concentration or rubbing, then these are the warning signs of weak eyesight and you should consult your doctor.

Take care with contact lens

These days contact lens are very much in vogue. They make your eyes look more cosmetically appealing but one must use them with great care. Always pay attention when you are applying or removing them because even slight mishandling can cause damage by scarring retina and sometimes can lead to the complete blindness or faulty vision. Wash them with the prescribed/appropriate solution to eliminate dirt and particles.

Diet right

Right diet ensures a strong and perfect vision. Drink at least 12 glasses of water daily. Eat foods which contain grains and nuts. Citrus foods are especially good for eyes.

Ensure regular checkups

Do have regular eye check-ups as many problems can be treated if detected early; one compulsory examination in 20s and two in 30s are ideal. People with a family history of diabetes and eye diseases should have more frequent checkups.

Essential Health Tips

1. Move More
Make it a daily challenge to find ways to move your body. Climb stairs if given a choice between that and escalators or elevators. Walk your dog; chase your kids; toss balls with friends, mow the lawn. Anything that moves your limbs is not only a fitness tool, it's a stress buster. Think 'move' in small increments of time. It doesn't have to be an hour in the gym or a 45-minute aerobic dance class or tai chi or kickboxing. But that's great when you're up to it. Meanwhile, move more. Thought for the day: Cha, Cha, Cha…. Then do it!

2. Cut Fat
Avoid the obvious such as fried foods, burgers and other fatty meats (i.e. pork, bacon, ham, salami, ribs and sausage). Dairy products such as cheese, cottage cheese, milk and cream should be eaten in low fat versions. Nuts and sandwich meats, mayonnaise, margarine, butter and sauces should be eaten in limited amounts. Most are available in lower fat versions such as substitute butter, fat free cheeses and mayonnaise. Thought for the day: Lean, mean, fat-burning machine…. Then be one!

3. Quit Smoking
The jury is definitely in on this verdict. Ever since 1960 when the Surgeon General announced that smoking was harmful to your health, Americans have been reducing their use of tobacco products that kill. Just recently, we've seen a surge in smoking in adolescents and teens. Could it be the Hollywood influence? It seems the stars in every movie of late smoke cigarettes. Beware. Warn your children of the false romance or 'tough guy' stance of Hollywood smokers. Thought for the day: Give up just one cigarette…. the next one.

4. Reduce Stress
Easier said than done, stress busters come in many forms. Some techniques recommended by experts are to think positive thoughts. Spend 30 minutes a day doing something you like. (i.e.,Soak in a hot tub; walk on the beach or in a park; read a good book; visit a friend; play with your dog; listen to soothing music; watch a funny movie. Get a massage, a facial or a haircut. Meditate. Count to ten before losing your temper or getting aggravated. Avoid difficult people when possible. Thought for the day: When seeing red, think pink clouds….then float on them.

5. Protect Yourself from Pollution
If you can't live in a smog-free environment, at least avoid smoke-filled rooms, high traffic areas, breathing in highway fumes and exercising near busy thoroughfares. Exercise outside when the smog rating is low. Exercise indoors in air conditioning when air quality is good. Plant lots of shrubbery in your yard. It's a good pollution and dirt from the street deterrent. Thought for the day: 'Smoke gets in your eyes'…and your mouth, and your nose and your lungs as do pollutants….hum the tune daily.

Why U Talk In Ur Sleep

What is sleep talking?
Sleep talking, or somniloquy, is the act of speaking during sleep. It's a type of parasomnia -- an abnormal behavior that takes place during sleep. It's a very common occurrence and is not usually considered a medical problem.

Who talks in their sleep?
Many people talk in their sleep. Half of all kids between the ages of 3 and 10 years old carry on conversations while asleep, and a small number of adults -- about 5% -- keep chit-chatting after they go to bed. The utterances can take place occasionally or every night. A 2004 poll showed that more than 1 in 10 young children converse in their sleep more than a few nights a week.

Girls talk in their sleep as much as boys. And experts think that sleep talking may run in families.

What are the symptoms of talking in your sleep?
It's hard to tell if you've been talking in your own sleep. Usually, people will tell you they've heard you shout out during the night or while you were napping. Or maybe someone might complain that your sleep talking is keeping him or her up all night.

What causes sleep talking?
You might think that sleep talking occurs during dreaming. But scientists still are not sure if such chatter is linked to nighttime reveries. The talking can occur in any stage of sleep.

Sleep talking usually occurs by itself and is most often harmless. However, in some cases, it might be a sign of a more serious sleep disorder or health condition.

REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) and sleep terrors are two types of sleep disorders that cause some people to shout during sleep. Sleep terrors, also called night terrors, usually involve frightening screams, thrashing, and kicking. It's hard to wake someone having a sleep terror. Children with sleep terrors usually sleep talk and sleepwalk.

Other things that can cause sleep talking include:

certain medications
emotional stress
fever
mental health disorder
substance abuse

Don't Re-use Mineral Water Bottles

Don't Re-use Mineral Water bottles

Many are unaware of poisoning caused by re-using plastic bottles. Some of you maybe in the habit of using and re-using your disposable mineral water bottles (e.g. Nestle, Bisleri, Aquafina, Kinley, Evian, etc...), keeping them in your car or at work. Not a good idea. It happened in Dubai, when a 12 year old girl died after a long usage (16 months) of SAFA mineral water bottle, as she used to carry the same fancy (painted by herself) bottle to her school daily.

In a nutshell, the plastic (called polyethylene terephthalate or PET) used in these bottles contains a potentially carcinogenic element (something called diethyihydroxylamine or DEHA). The bottles are safe for one-time use only; if you must keep them longer, it should be or no more than a few days, week max, and keep them away from heat as well. Repeated washing and rinsing can cause the plastic to break down and the carcinogens (cancer-causing chemical agents) can leak into the water that YOU are drinking.

Better to invest in water bottles that are really meant for multiple uses. This is not something we should be scrimping on. Those of you with family - do please advise them, especially children

How To Keep Teeth White Naturally

There are many effective methods of teeth whitening available, but some come with heavy price tags. Here are some steps you can take at home to whiten teeth naturally without breaking the bank.

Things You’ll Need:
Straw
Toothbrush
Lemon Juice
Salt
Baking soda
Hydrogen peroxide
Strawberries

Step 1:

Limit your consumption of drinks that stain tooth enamel. A few of these include coffee, tea and red wine. If you simply can't cut back on these beverages, consider drinking them though a straw to limit the amount of liquid that actually comes in contact with teeth.

Step 2:

Brush your teeth immediately after eating, especially if eating foods that stain easily, such as berries.

Step 3:

Rub raw strawberries on your teeth, preferably pureed. There is an enzyme in strawberries that acts as a whitening agent. You'll want to brush and rinse after applying the strawberries to remove the natural sugars and acids they may leave behind.

Step 4:

Eat crunchy foods that require a lot of chewing such as carrots, celery, broccoli and apples. These foods are abrasive and will remove built up plaque, which dulls the appearance of teeth.

Step 5:

Dip your toothbrush directly into baking soda and brush. The results are worth the lousy taste.

Step 6:

Combine lemon juice and one teaspoon of salt to make a paste-like substance. Brush your teeth and rinse. Again, not so pleasant on the palate, but your teeth will thank you.

Step 7:

Use hydrogen peroxide to brush your teeth. Dip your toothbrush into a small capful of the peroxide and brush as you would with regular toothpaste, being careful not to swallow. Rinse with water.

- Tips -

Consider using one of the several whitening toothpastes on the market that have all-natural ingredients.
Brushing after every meal and flossing regularly are the first steps in maintaining a healthy smile.

The Ten Most Beneficial Foods You Must Have

.How we look, how we feel, how healthy we are, how we perform our daily tasks -- it all narrows down to what we eat. How easy it would be if we knew which foods could be beneficial to us -- to help us feel energetic, to help us improve our health, to help us in our battle against body fat. Doctors gives you a guide -- in two parts -- as to what we consider the ten most beneficial foods. These foods are rated on the basis of the health benefits they provide, the fibre content, their vitamin and mineral content as well as low fat
and caloric content.

Note: These foods work best when combined with an all round healthy diet and regular exercise regimen.

1. Oatmeal :

Touted as the breakfast of athletes all around the world, this mushy, gushy delicious grain can be the first
addition you could make to your new and healthy diet and lifestyle change. Unlike other breakfast cereals that are loaded with sugar and stripped of all fibre, which give you a sugar-loaded burst of energy and then drop drastically, allowing it to drop. Oats are slow to digest and thus provide you a steady sustained flow of energy to take you through the first few hours of the day. Oatmeal is also loaded with fibre, especially the soluble kind, and has thus been proven to be invaluable in the battle against high cholesterol and riglyceride levels. Mix it with milk, fruit, yoghurt or nuts; have it hot or cold; use it in cooking -- just make sure to make this heart healthy food a part of your daily diet.

2. Tomatoes:

Our tiny little red friends are a lot more powerful and beneficial to us than we could ever imagine. Tomatoes contain a carotenoid (a class of highly unsaturated yellow to red pigments occurring in plants), called lycopene. Not only has this powerful carotenoid been proven to improve immunity as well as reduce the risk of developing heart attacks, it has also been proven, believe it or not, to reduce the risk of cancers of the prostate, breast, lung, stomach, pancreas, colon, esophagus, mouth and cervix! While we realise that there are just so many raw tomatoes that we can stomach, here is where it gets more interesting. Research shows that lycopene in tomatoes can be absorbed more efficiently by the body if processed into sauce, paste and ketchup, thus making the tomato one of the few vegetables that is actually more beneficial in its processed or cooked form than when its raw.

3. Almonds

Nuts have always managed to get a bad rap due to their high caloric content. Thus, they are often overlooked for their fibre and protein content as well as being an important source of healthy unsaturated fats and numerous beneficial minerals and vitamins. While all nuts do have their benefits, if I had to name just one as the most beneficial, it would have to be almonds. These tasty, crunchy treats are sprinkled into cereals, salads, ice cream as well as being a calming cooling airline snack we rely on to curb our hunger during those long flights. Little do we realise that not only do almonds provide taste and texture to foods, they also provide more complete nutrition in one handful than you can imagine. Just 28 grams (around 23 almonds) provide us with 9 grams of mono-unsaturated fatty acid, 6 grams of muscle building protein, 3 grams of fiber, 200 mg of potassium, 65 mg of bone strengthening calcium as well as a hearty dose of vitamin E, magnesium, phosphorous, copper, zinc and riboflavin. As with most other foods, moderation is important. Nuts do have a high caloric content and it is so very easy to inhale an entire box of these tasty crunchy characters without a thought!

4. Fish:

Who would have thought that our smelly friends from the sea could prove to be one of the most beneficial foods in the world? When we were younger, fish was inexplicably considered 'brain food'. Studies in later years concluded that the omega 3 fatty acids were what actually made fish brain food, as well as making it one of the most beneficial foods as far as heart health, lowering cholesterol and triglyceride levels and treating psychiatric illnesses, like depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, were considered. Recent studies have also shown benefits of omega 3 fatty acids for people suffering from arthritis and other joint conditions. Let us not forget the protein punch that fish provides us with, as well as delicious taste whether we decide to order it soaked in butter and garlic or whether we decide to go healthy and have it steamed or grilled. As every fish has its own unique taste and beneficial characteristics, mackerel and salmon lead as far as omega 3 fatty acid content goes.

5. Milk

Something our mothers always told us to drink before we left our home, when we were kids. Think she had any idea that milk is one of the highest quality sources of whole food protein, with a biological value second only to eggs? And let's not forget the calcium content that milk provides us with, preventing our bones from becoming weak and hollow and developing osteoporosis later in life. Recent studies have also proved that calcium could be beneficial in our battle against body fat. Just make sure to have low fat or fat free milk, which provides us with the same important nutrients minus the fat and the cholesterol. So let's thank our mommies for nagging us all those years and drink away to a lean muscular physique! PS: Please check that you are not lactose intolerant before you drink milk.

6. Apple

Every fruit has its benefits to the human body. Bananas are rich in heart-healthy potassium, strawberries rich in disease-fighting antioxidants, watermelon is rich in heart-healthy and cancer-preventing lycopene, etc. But we have decided to name the apple as the fruit of our choice due its high antioxidant and fibre content, its taste, its ability to fill a person as well as its extremely low caloric content. Apples are often overlooked due to the lack of vitamin C when compared to fruits like oranges. But recent research has indicated that apples have more antioxidant activity than would be expected from their vitamin C content. This antioxidant activity is thought to come from other natural substances in apples, collectively called phytochemicals. The nutritious content of the apple is very favourable: a medium sized apple contains a mere 80 calories, with no fat or cholesterol content as well as a whopping 5 grams of fibre. Apples are especially rich in pectin fibre, associated with helping keep blood cholesterol levels in balance as well as helping to control appetite levels, thus aiding us in our battle against overeating.

7. Tea

Everyone has their choice of beverage they rely on to perk them up when their energy levels run low, to relax them when the stress just gets too much, or that they can simply enjoy because of its fine taste.Unfortunately, most people go for sugary soft drinks or creamy café lattes. It's time to switch. To tea! It is tasty, contains some caffeine to perk you, but not too much that it leaves you jittery. It also provides a cupful of antioxidants called flavonoids, that may help prevent cholesterol-damaging arteries. Recent research also suggests that this popular beverage can help reduce the risk of cancer, heart attack and Parkinson's disease. While most teas are good for you, green tea contains the highest amount of flavonoids, making it an extremely potent antioxidant. Epigallocatechin Gallate (ECGC), the green tea extract, is also known for its fat-burning benefits. Another very interesting bit of information is that green tea is also known to suppress foul breath caused by certain foods.

8. Garlic

It was worshipped by the ancient Egyptians, chewed on by Greek Olympian athletes. It aids in keeping the heart healthy, wards off coughs and colds, reduces cholesterol and triglycerides, controls high blood pressure, and chases away vampires and witches (as well as a couple of friends and family members)! Yep, this aptly nicknamed'stinking rose' has a number of benefits, and not just to make Italian dishes taste so good.

9. Kidney Beans

We highly recommend you add beans to you meal plan.Beans are high in fibre, both insoluble as well as the all-important, cholesterol-lowering soluble kind Their high fibre content also slows down the digestion, thus providing a steady flow of energy as well as keeps you feeling more satiated at the end of the meal. They are also a good source of a host of vitamins and minerals. Why kidney beans? Because of their delicious taste and the fact that they are an excellent source of iron, folate as well as magnesium Red kidney beans lead the way as far as antioxidant content in beans go. Add them to soups or salads, use them in your curries, use them in your sabzis whatever you do, don't miss out on this nutritional powerhouse. But make sure you add them gradually to your meal plan.

10. Water

Maybe it isn't the best choice to include in a list of 'foods', but it is so very, very important to include water at all times of the day! Water is a fundamental part of our lives. It is easy to forget how completely we depend on it Water has been ranked by experts as second only to oxygen as essential for life. The average adult body has 55 to 75 percent water.Two-thirds of our body weight is water. A human embryo is more than 80 percent water. A newborn baby is 74 percent water. The water you drink literally Becomes you! The functions of water go far beyond just hydration. They include aiding digestion, weight loss, battling water retention, regulating body temperature, aiding the kidney in excretion, lubricating our joints, the list goes on and on and on

What Happens To Ur Body If U Drink A Coke ?

Have you ever wondered why Coke comes with a smile? It’s because it gets you high. They took the cocaine out almost a hundred years ago. You know why? It was redundant.

In The First 10 minutes: 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. (100% of your recommended daily intake.) You don’t immediately vomit from the overwhelming sweetness because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor allowing you to keep it down.

20 minutes: Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst. Your liver responds to this by turning any sugar it can get its hands on into fat. (There’s plenty of that at this particular moment)

40 minutes: Caffeine absorption is complete. Your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises, as a response your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream. The adenosine receptors in your brain are now blocked preventing drowsiness.

45 minutes: Your body ups your dopamine production stimulating the pleasure centers of your brain. This is physically the same way heroin works, by the way.

>60 minutes: The phosphoric acid binds calcium, magnesium and zinc in your lower intestine, providing a further boost in metabolism. This is compounded by high doses of sugar and artificial sweeteners also increasing the urinary excretion of calcium.

>60 Minutes: The caffeine’s diuretic properties come into play. (It makes you have to pee.) It is now assured that you’ll evacuate the bonded calcium, magnesium and zinc that was headed to your bones as well as sodium, electrolyte and water.

>60 minutes: As the rave inside of you dies down you’ll start to have a sugar crash. You may become irritable and/or sluggish. You’ve also now, literally, pissed away all the water that was in the Coke. But not before infusing it with valuable nutrients your body could have used for things like even having the ability to hydrate your system or build strong bones and teeth.
