Did you know that vitamin A has incredible anti-infective powers, as well as immune-boosting benefits? And if that is not enough to get you up and eating my foods rich in vitamin A, here is more good news:

1. Studies have shown that children who ingest extra vitamin A can get over the measles by as much as 50% faster. These children also show fewer complications as a result of having measles. Vitamin A supplements can also help babies heal faster that are suffering from respiratory infections.

2. Vitamin A can aid in preventing complications that result from certain cancer treatments. When you have cancer and are going through chemotherapy or other radiation treatment, it can dramatically lower your immune system. When this happens, your body is prone to pick up infections and other viruses that are floating around.

When cancer patient treatments are given large doses of vitamin A, their immune system has been reported to raise back to incredibly higher levels. However, sometimes with the good comes the bad. And the "bad" that we are referring to here is that too much vitamin A can also become very toxic. So while these studies are showing very promising results, researchers are still working to find a way to reduce toxic levels of vitamin A while increasing the immune system at the same time with this vitamin.

3. Vitamin A can also be used to treat viral infections. When the body does not have a sufficient amount of vitamin A, it becomes susceptible to different illnesses, especially that of viral infections. If you are suffering from a virus then your best defense is to supplement with extra vitamin A. Be sure that it is in the form of beta-carotene which help reduces possible vitamin A toxic levels.

4. Vitamin A boosts immune cells. Vitamin A taken in large doses of beta-carotene can help increase the amount of infection fighting cells within your immune system. These results are especially beneficial to people that are suffering from dramatically reduced immune system levels, such as AIDS patients and cancer patients.

5. Vitamin A can be found in a variety of healthy foods. While it is acceptable to supplement your diet with vitamin A., your goal should be to try to eat as many foods that are rich in beta-carotene is possible. Such foods include any fruits that are in the color of red, orange, and yellow. Vegetables that are rich in beta-carotene include tomatoes, carrots, and cantaloupe. And do not forget your dark green leafy vegetables. They are very potent and beta-carotene, as well as other nutrients.

Several researches have found out that this special herb has been used by aboriginals for thousands of years and several stories about a magical lagoon where the tea tree leaves have fallen and gathered were told.

Well, scientifically known as melaleuca alternifolia, the tea tree oil is said to have originated from Australia where it is named as a native Australian herb that possesses remarkable healing properties. It also grows in the Northern New South Wales, and the oil which is used for some medicinal purposes is actually derived from the cells of the tea tree leaves. The oil, for long years, has been used for surgery, skin care, and dental care.

Speaking of dental care, the tea tree oil is deemed potent for treating bad breath. It's no wonder then that today, thousands of toothpastes and oral products are formulated with the tea tree oil on it. The oil is even applied in some mouthwashes and mixed in some solutions to eliminate bad breath.

Tea tree oil for bad breath is offered for some good reasons. In the first place, the tea tree oil for bad breath is antifungal and antiseptic that it can kill bacteria and fungi that thrive in the mouth through food particles that are left unwashed. It is its antiseptic property actually that makes tea tree oil for bad breathe a powerful disinfectant.

Aside from that, tea tree oil for bad breath is proven to have antibiotic properties that can help heal infections in the gums. They are said to be useful for treating severe chronic gingivitis and bleeding of the gums as they deeply penetrate to the skin, allowing the skin to heal and restore its original condition. This is perhaps one of the best reasons that most dental experts today recommend their patients to use toothpaste that contain tea tree oil for bad breath.

Numerous studies have also revealed that tea tree oil for bad breath is highly safe. As support for this is the fact that the oil is a 100% natural product. It is extracted entirely from a renewable natural resource, making it an environmentally friendly product. It is also worth noting that the tea tree oil for bad breath is derived from tea trees that are meticulously managed to make sure that the natural environment where they survive is intact and undisturbed.

However, there are certain cases of unfavorable effects of tea tree oil for bad breath. Some have noted that tea tree oil for bad breath may not totally eliminate plague. Some forms of allergies may even occur, but their incidence is tremendously low when compared to the synthetic products out there in the market.

With all the possible side effects of tea tree oil for bad breath, experts do recommend dental check up to accurately determine whether the oil you are using for your bad breath is the right option for you to consider or not. So before you use a tea tree oil for bad breath, see your dentist first.

This is your new reality in one that nobody can force you to comply with. In other words, it is your duty to take full responsibility for your medications and keeping up with your treatments.

No one can do it for you

As strange as it may sound, there are many diabetics out there who just plain refuse to handle the responsibilities of proper insulin treatment and getting the right medications in order to maintain their health.

Yes, you can go to the doctor and get diagnosed with diabetes. Yes, your doctor can properly assist you in medical advice as well as prescribe you the appropriate medications. And yes, you can hire outside help to make life much easier such as a professional dietitian. However, backing these responsibilities with action is totally up to you. Only you can commit 100% to taking your medications and faithfully applying your knowledge of these medications so that you are taking the right doses and at the appropriate times.

What you should know about your diabetes medications

Medications can often be a little tricky when it comes to following a regimen and avoiding side effects. Many of them are extremely potent and must be mixed carefully if using other drugs at the same time. Below are a few things that you should know when taking your diabetes medications:

1. Are you taking your medications with the appropriate dosages? Are you following doctor's orders and ingesting them at the right time of the day or night?

2. Are you following the instructions of the meds when it comes to taking them with or without food?

3. Do you know if your medications are okay to mix with any other meds that you may be taking? Were you honest with your doctor about other nonprescription drugs you may be using?

4. How well are you educated about the side effects of your medications? Have you asked your doctor what to expect?

5. Will these side effects cause conditions that you may not be able to handle? Have you considered whether or not the side effects may interfere with your work or other activities which could prove to be dangerous under the influence of certain medical drugs, like driving a car or operating heavy machinery?

6. Should you experience major side effects which could be very dangerous to you or other people, are you well equipped with an antidote that will relieve them immediately?

Creating a home remedy for acid reflux is a great idea if you have the right tools and the right ingredients to create something that will work. If you are not fully prepared for the creation of such a home remedy for acid reflux, it is probably best that you head over to a health food store and get something from there that will help you. Instead, you could be spending hours making something that may not work and may end up actually causing you more problems than you originally had with acid reflux. The choice is yours, but you should consider the possibilities of all options and their possible outcomes.

If you decide to create a home remedy for acid reflux, be sure that you use the finest ingredients and that you are aware of the possible side effects of making such a thing. This includes consulting with a variety of sources in terms of how to make it and how to use it properly to get what you need from it. There is no point in creating something that doesn't work and that eats up all of your supplies. There is no reason to waste time, especially if you are suffering with acid reflux, on a home remedy for acid reflux when a store-bought one will do just as well.

If You Insist…

Some people, regardless of how it makes sense, will decide to create a home remedy for acid reflux. This involves, then, creating a concoction of ingredients that you should have on hand. The key reason not to make one would be that it takes time whereas popping a pill or taking some medication is usually related to instant relief. A good point, however, of making your own creation is that you could end up actually curing the acid reflux instead of merely curbing the effects it has on your body. If you decide to do this, you need to make sure that you follow all of the instructions.

In terms of instructions, there are generally full sets of them available from a variety of sources. A good health food store can probably introduce you to some of that information, including a good way to make a home remedy for acid reflux and examples of other remedies that worked. You can work from this template and create something that offers you serious relief and right in time, too.

What stress? Sometimes we can get so stressed out that we don't even notice it ourselves. It becomes part of the daily grind; and who has time for it anyway…you've got things to do, right? This may be true but if you do not mange your stress properly it will begin to manage you. Major sources of stress are related to work activities. Issues with competency, uncertainty, and communication can cause us to stress out daily at work and spill over into the home. Control is a factor that is greatly attributed to job stress. People with a great deal of responsibilities without a lot of control over decisions are the most at risk for stress related illnesses like heart failure. Communication problems thicken the pot and cause even more tension. Feeling a little unappreciated lately. If you do not feel supported by coworkers or management it may make resolving issues more difficult, causing even more stress. You may be new and uncertain of your responsibilities or there are too many recurring deadlines. Alright, more and more stress on the job.

Reducing some of this stress will benefit you and your employer. Meeting regularly with your manager or supervisor to discuss problem at least once a year to discuss performance and other issues that affect you on the job may help. Good time management skills and leaving your job at the office and don't give up any of your free time to catch up on work if you don't have to. Ahhh…a little relief. Know when to quit. If you are truly unhappy with your job think about changing careers and spend time researching other possibilities. Do the researches before you quit and find a less stressful job. Ahhhhhhhh…even more relief. Engage in much more physical activity to reduce stress and get fit so you are at least more equipped to handle stressors. Ahhhhhhhhh… it is relaxing even more. And last but not least take a vacation if needed and recharge by doing something that you really enjoy. Vacation! Ultimate relaxation achieved.

All might not play out exactly like the description just mentioned. The point here is to find ways to relax yourself. Ultimately there is no one to take better care of you than you. If you find that you are experiencing more tension than you can handle take immediate action to resolve whatever it is that is causing you so much stress and work on eliminating or decreasing them. So instead of letting the root of the problem continue unabated while you frantically try to get rid of the stress it creates, you should get to the root and eliminate whatever it is that is making you stressed. Even if it means changing your lifestyle dramatically, or quitting your job and living cheaply for a few months, it is worth it in the end since stress can be such a harmful thing. You can try talking to your employer to see if it would be possible to have a more relaxed work day. Tell him or her about your health issues that are resulting from stress.

Unless you are one of those individuals who thrive in a high pressure environment and positive results are evident in your health and performance there may be a big need for change. Stress can be the single cause of depression, high blood pressure, heart palpitations, and reek havoc on your family or behavior. Don't allow the advances in technology to separate you from your family and friends. Disconnect from cell phones and the internet and separate your time from the employers' time. Begin to enjoy the time you spend alone or with family and friends, enjoy that long book, take that weekend get away that you've been putting off for months. If you don't do any of these things, find a way to relax somehow, so that the effects of job related stress don't lead you straight to burnout and drain you out of your precious life.

Sometimes bad breath can be caused by medical conditions, but many times to cure bad breath you just have to step up your oral hygiene routine. If you don't have a medical condition that is causing your bad breath, flossing and frequent brushing can help.

Why Do You Get Bad Breath?

The common cause of most bad breath is the waste product that is called volatile sulfur compounds. This is created by anaerobic bacteria in your mouth that is from the food that gets stuck between your teeth after eating. That is why it is so important to brush your teeth after every meal. This can go a long way to cure bad breath just by itself.

When you have leftover food stuck in your teeth it increases the amount of food available for the bacteria to grow. It also adds to the attractiveness of the environment where bacteria prefer to live. Those who are on a vegetarian style diet have less need to cure bad breath. The proteins that are in meat cause much of the bacteria to flourish in your mouth.

How Keeping Your Gums and Teeth Clean To Cure Bad Breath

The bacterium responsible for bad breath lives in the plaque that accumulates around, as well as on your teeth. It can also go below the gum line and cause problems that may need serious dental attention if you let it go too long. When you brush your teeth thoroughly numerous times a day, it gets rid of any bacteria that are lurking in your mouth and can help to cure bad breath. Flossing daily is also important. This helps to eliminate plaque and bacteria that have settled onto your teeth and below the line of your gums.

You need to keep in mind, to cure bad breath that is caused by bacteria, you need to cut off the food supply so that they cannot spread and take over your mouth. Flossing is a huge factor in keeping your breath clean and fresh. It can not be stressed enough how important this part of your dental routine is and should be.

The first thing you should do when you realize that foul odor is emanating from your mouth is to make an appointment with the dentist to have a complete and thorough cleaning. Once this is done, you can speak to the oral hygienist that is doing the cleaning for tips and advice to help to cure bad breath and keep your mouth as clean as when it is professionally done, every single day.

One of the most perverse problems in an autistic individual's life is the threat of sexual abuse. This can come in the form of rape or simply be in an abusive relationship. Because autistic people spend much of their lives feeling different and left out, they often enjoy sexual experiences for one reason: it puts then on a playing field equal to others. It is very easy for this to become a controlling part of a relationship. The most important thing to remember is that autistic people experience sexuality in much of the same way that others do, no matter how highly functioning they may be. Parents should teach their child about sexuality from an early age in order to prevent sexual abuse from happening.

The most valuable command that anyone can learn in relationship to sexuality is "No." Teaching this to even children can be very useful. In this respect, treat your autistic child as no different than you would another child-teach him or her the parts of the body from a young age and be very clear, as the child matures, about what happens during puberty and what kinds of behaviors are appropriate and inappropriate. Be sure that your child understands the differences between good touches and bad touches. This can be extremely difficult for autistic children who are sensitive to touch in general. It may be helpful to label "zones" on the body where no one should touch without permission.

Also make sure that as your autistic child grows into an adult, he or she understands what rape is and what to do if this happens. As many autistic children are hands-on learners, it may be best to role-play some potentially dangerous situations. If your child communicates non-verbally, teach him or her clear signs to show a person to stop what they are doing. Autistic people can often not understand that others have their own thoughts and emotions-they believe that everyone thinks and feels what they do. Because of this, many are shocked to find that "bad" people in the world will take advantage of sexual situations. You may need to explain to an autistic individual what kinds of dress and conduct are appropriate in public so that he or she is not unknowingly attracting sexual attention.

You child should learn to respect his or her body and understand that others need to respect it as well. This is only possible if parents and educators teach autistic children about their bodies from a young age. By learning how to stop sexual abuse, you can keep you children, autistic or not, safe from predators.

The most common is to wait until your favourite vitamin store has a sale but this can be a rather difficult way to get a discount vitamin. The problem is mainly due to the discount time. Most discount vitamin offers only have a limited amount of stock available and it is a case of first-come, first-served. The other issue with trying to get these discount vitamin offers is that they are strictly time limited and again, you may miss out unless you find out about the sale in advance.

A large number of stores produce coupons that offer discount vitamin purchases. These coupons are often distributed in newspapers and magazines – the Sunday newspapers are so full of coupons that it may be time-consuming looking for the discount vitamin offers but it is worth the effort. You may find that some of these coupons do not give an instant discount vitamin purchase but you can claim the appropriate money back through a rebate system. Beware that some of these rebated discount vitamin offers require you to purchase additional equipment or accessories to qualify for them.

One extremely good source for discount vitamin offers is to actually look for bulk purchases. This is an extremely underestimated resource as many people do not actually understand what a bulk purchase discount vitamin really is. In all honesty you are likely to get a better discount vitamin offer if you opt for a bulk purchase from your local outlet. This is because the bulk purchases offer the best discount vitamin prices possible. This is especially the case for vitamins that you may want to take on an ongoing basis. Vitamin C, for example, is a great choice to buy in bulk and obtain a discount vitamin price.

It is extremely important, however, to ensure that the bulk discount vitamin purchases do not include vitamins that may have an expiration date that could be exceeded before they are all consumed. Do not be tempted to purchase bulk amounts of vitamins simply to obtain a discount vitamin price unless you are sure that you can consume all of the vitamins within the expiration dates given. One of the major mistakes that people make when looking for a discount vitamin is to overlook the expiration date. There may not be any danger if the discount vitamins are a few days past their sell by date but it is not worth the risk just to save a few pennies.

An estimated 7,000,000 children in the US currently suffer from GER. Children's immature digestive systems are easy victims to acid reflux and as they grow up (up to one or two years of age), most children naturally come out of the problem. In case the child's complaints continue, treatment by a pediatrician will be in need.

Nature Of Acid Reflux

In acid reflux, stomach contents i.e. food and gastric acid flow back up out of the stomach into the esophagus causing irritation and discomfort. The food coming up may or may not flow out of the child's mouth. As a result, the child may vomit forcefully or have a wet burp that does not reach the mouth.

Symptoms Of Acid Reflux In Children

Many different symptoms can show in cases of acid reflux in children. The more common symptoms include: pain, irritability, sudden crying, colic; frequent vomiting or just spitting-up; inability to eat despite hunger; poor sleep; emission of wet burp or wet hiccup sounds; bad breath.

Less common symptoms include: difficulty in swallowing, gagging, and/or choking; sore throat and the need for constant eating and drinking to soothe it; poor weight gain, weight loss; hoarse voice; respiratory problems like asthma, bronchitis, noisy breathing, pneumonia etc.; ear infections, sinus infections, excessive salvation, drooling, and peculiar neck arching.

Reflux Condition And Complications In Acid Reflux In Children

In many young babies, regurgitation of a little milk, especially when burping after meals, is a common condition. It is not a bog problem until complications appear. Complications show up mostly in form of heartburn and esophagitis. Heartburn is the burning sensation resulting from the flow of acid from stomach into the esophagus. Esophagitis is the reddening and swelling of the esophagus due to acid reflux. It is very painful and can kill appetite. Severe esophagitis also causes bleeding from the inflamed part of the esophagus. Other complications include poor growth, trouble in swallowing, respiratory problems, and melting of tooth enamel leading to tooth decay.

Treatment Of Acid Reflux In Children

Different treatment methods are used for dealing with GER in children. Most children come out of the reflux situation after they get a year old. Till then, proper positioning and feeding techniques will do to provide relief. Children are to be positioned upright such that gravity does not allow flow of food and acid from the stomach into the esophagus. Frequent burping and avoiding spicy, fatty and acidic foods is also needed in coping with acid reflux in children. A variety of medications are used for treating acid reflux, e.g. antacids, motility medicines, acid suppressors, and acid blockers. In very severe cases of reflux, surgery is performed.

Is food enough for a healthy life or is vitamin supplements needed in the diet. Why should I take vitamins if I'm on a diet, vitamins help increase weight don't they?

It seems that food and vitamins have become a real industry and more and more people in the business of selling vitamins and supplements build up their companies on the thoughts and worries of the general public.

Now, let's take each at a time and confront these myths with clear reality. The first thing to say is that plenty of food doesn't always mean healthy nutrition.

Much of the fruits and vegetables grown nowadays are forced to grow bigger and quicker with the help of pesticides, therefore the main nutritive factors are irremediably lost. Eating this foodstuff does not necessarily give us the nutrition we need within our diet.

Unfortunately food that is good for us is usually grown organically and tends to be very expensive and outside the reach of those people who live on limited incomes.

Also the animals which end up on our tables are also usually artificially fed. Meat and fish are no longer what they were even a few years ago due to the way they are farmed. Much of our food contains coloring and antibiotics which often plays havoc with our bodily systems.

Taking into consideration all these causes, the single and most comfortable solution seem to be taking vitamin supplements.

Think of your body as of a house. A lack of vitamins and minerals in the body is like a house without windows, doors or roof. The action of cold and hot weather, of winds and rain would have a similar action on this house as life has on our bodies when deprived of the nutrients and minerals we need.

Now we've shown that there's a point in taking vitamin supplements, we should understand also their effects. How about developing a strong bone system and a protected heart and normal blood pressure.

Would you like beautiful skin, hair and nails and last but not least improved physical and mental energy?

I almost forgot, vitamins do not imply a higher weight. This myth is wrong. Our body accepts only the specific amount of vitamins it needs to work properly; most of the rest are eliminated either through sweat, or urine. For vitamins and supplements to have any impact on your weight, it would mean overdosing on them which would of course ultimately cause you harm. It's true that your appetite may rise with the help of vitamins, but the cause of obesity and weight problems is too much food or a disease, not a daily multivitamin.

Try to be moderate and accept the needs of your body; give it the meals and supplements it requires. Try to do physical exercise, too. The result will be seen in no time, a healthy mind in a healthy body.

Oftentimes, hugs and squeezes from other people can cause more distress because autistic children or adults are often unable to communicate their needs by indicating a particular amount or length of pressure. This is both frustrating and ineffective for both the autistic person and whoever is hugging or squeezing them.

The hug machine was created to help relive this frustration, putting autistic individuals in control of their situation. Both children and adults who suffer from autism sometimes crave pressure to help calm anxiety. Because of this, one woman with autism developed the hug machine, also known as a hug box or a squeeze machine. The hug machine has two padded sideboards connected near the bottom of the boards to form a V-shape. A lever helps push the sideboards together to create pressure; the lever also allows the autistic child or adult the ability to control the amount and length of pressure.

Studies are still being conducted to find out why those with autism respond to pressure and how it can produce a calming effect. The hug machine may affect the heightened sensory perceptions of those with autism who often feels disruptive or distressing behavior. By applying pressure, perhaps the autistic child or adult moves his or her focus to a single feeling-the pressure-which in turn produces a calming effect. For many autistic children and adults, anxiety can be completely incapacitating. Not being able to function with the anxiety is frustrating, and so appropriate social behavior is even more difficult. Sometimes, the only release from such anxiety is through pressure. To this day, the hug machine is used by several programs and researchers studying autism as well as therapy programs.

Remember that hugging or squeezing an autistic child may not help him or her. You may, in fact, increase their senses and cause more anxiety. Though you may not be able to purchase a hug machine, you may be able to create a similar object. Try wrapping the autistic child or adult in a blanket, where they can control how much pressure to apply. You can also look into buying padded boards that more closely simulate the hug machine's side-boards and perhaps tie or tape some heavy-duty yarn to each side to allow the autistic child or adult control over how much pressure to apply and for how long. Contact your child's school to see if there has been any interest in purchasing a community hug-machine. This may not be a cure to all your child's problems, but it works well to help many autistic individuals cope with the world.

When you are first diagnosed with having diabetes you may first be asked to change your diet. When you go back to the doctor for a check up and they see that you are still having some fluctuation in your sugar levels you could be asked to take some medication that is in the form of pills. When you are taking the pills that were subscribed to you make sure that you are going to follow the direction to perfection in what the doctor and pharmacist tell you. Then you know that the medication that you are given will help you out with the diabetes.

If you are one of the many people that may need to take insulin out there make sure that you are taking to the right way. If you think that you can skip a dose because your numbers are running good you are wrong. This is also true for the pills that you may need to take for diabetes medicine. One thing with the diabetes medication it is going to be given to you so that you are going to feel better instead of getting worse in the long run. You do need to make sure that you are taking your prescriptions honestly because if you do not then you are going to regret it in the long run. You know that you do not want to end up in the hospital from diabetes complications so why would you bother taking the chance.

The best thing that you can do is take all the diabetes medication that you are asked to take. Your doctor will know what kind and dose is going to be best for you and your situation. So make sure that you are taking to heart what your doctor is telling you as far as what to take for your medication to help control your diabetes. They really do know what is going to be the best for you and your diabetes, that way you are going to be able to help get the glucose levels under control.

One of the ways you can help keep the symptoms of autism under control is by studying diet. Parents of children with autism have reported that by controlling diet, they see a significant difference in their child's behavior. Two of the main dietary concerns are glutton and casein.

Glutton is a substance found in many common food products, with wheat, rye, and oaks being the main culprits. Casein is found in dairy products, such as milk. If you or your child with autism eats many foods with these products in them, such as breads or cheeses, you may be able to better control autistic behavior by decreasing consumption of such foods.

The difficulty in digesting both glutton and casein comes from an inability to digestively handle the peptides in these substances. Since they are not broken down as in a normal body, these extra peptides are absorbed into the blood stream. Elevated levels of peptides disrupt major brain functions, contributing to the effects of autism. By cutting foods containing glutton and casein out of you or your child's diet, you can help the body with the process of breaking down the peptides present in the body. To see if you or your child has a high absorption rate of these peptides, your doctor can administer a simple urine test.

Speak to a nutritionist or doctor before making any major changes in your diet. When you decide to cut glutton and casein from your diet, do not attempt to do this all at once. Cutting anything from your diet suddenly is unhealthy, and your body could go into withdrawal. Instead, slowly begin reducing the amounts of breads, grains, and milk products until you are eating none. You doctor can provide you with a complete list of all the foods containing glutton and casein if you truly want to cut them all from your diet. However, it may be necessary to get the nutrients that you find in glutton and casein products in another way, such as with dietary supplements. Again, your doctor can help in this decision. Overall, maintaining a balanced diet is the healthiest thing to do. Leaving glutton and casein products out of your or your child's diet may help control autistic behavior, so it is an option that should be considered, but eating a healthy diet altogether is the best way to keep you and your family healthy.

Bad breath of halitosis is almost inevitable to a degree. Not everyone is aware that they suffer from the problem, but it would be extremely rare if not impossible to escape for all time without ever having an episode of this embarrassing problem. More than the problem itself is the worry that you may have this issue, without friends and acquaintances to tell you about it. Therefore, it is common to wonder what causes bad breath, even if no one has mentioned the subject of late. It is comparatively easy to keep the matter under control with a basic understanding of what causes bad breath.

Onions and garlic are the most common examples of foods with such strong odors that they remain on one's breath for a long time. Brushing teeth and using mouth fresheners may offer no more than temporary relief, because traces find their way in to exhaled breath from blood, after the ingredients have been digested. However, these kinds of aromatic foods have become so notorious that many people now avoid them as much as possible. They may still ask what causes bad breath since there are other causes for halitosis apart from smelly foods. Left over food particles are common reasons, as they rot in the mouth after getting stuck between teeth. The mouth could also harbor some types of bacteria which cause bad breath. Finally, certain medical conditions such as ketosis may be responsible for a foul smell on one's breath.

Simple Solutions to the Question: What Causes Bad Breath?

Since there is no single reason for halitosis, it is best to consult a doctor to uncover the primary reason in each separate case. A regular dental check-up should uncover whether any aspect of oral health is responsible for lingering foul odors, while blood tests can establish systemic answers to the vexed question of what causes bad breath. Halitosis could be a result of a potentially serious condition, so medical evaluation of the problem is always a good idea. However, you need not wait until you get a dental or a doctor's appointment, to take action on learning that there is a bad smell in your mouth, for there are effective steps that you can safely take on your own.

Good habits should be adequate to treat halitosis if one is in a normal state of health. Tobacco smells at least as much as food with pungent aromas, so staying away from all these influences pays off handsomely in terms of clean and fresh breath. Regular brushing and flossing may sound like advice for children, but it is surprising how many adults need regular reminders!

It is possible that hot and spicy foods have caused a temporary experience with heartburn, but for those suffering two or more days a week should see a medical professional for an appropriate acid reflux test to learn an accurate cause.

If the doctor suspects gastro esophageal reflux disease one of the acid reflux tests they may use is a pH test to determine the amount of acid in the esophagus. During this test the doctor will go through the nasal passage to insert a tube into the esophagus, stopping above the lower esophagus sphincter where it will remain for 24 hours. Patients undergoing this type of acid reflux test are advised to go about their normal eating habits and activities and to record any feeling of indigestion experienced during the 24-hour period.

Coughing and sneezing is also recorded to give the physician a complete picture of what the patent is experiencing. After this acid reflux test the pH readings during the period along with the appearance of symptoms can help the doctor determine how much acid is refluxing through the lower esophageal sphincter.

Abnormalities Found With Barium E-Rays

Another type of acid reflux test uses barium x-rays to find possible lesions, ulcers or hiatal hernia in a patient. The patient drinks a chalky mixture of barium while in front of an x-ray machine. The barium shows up on the x-ray and allows the technician to follow the path of the liquid through the digestive system. Sometimes, the patient will be lying flat and is turned upside down to see how much, if any, of the barium flows back into the esophagus through the LES or through a hiatal hernia.

A more invasive test called an upper endoscopy is often used for patients who have suffered acid reflux for several years. During this acid reflux test a tube with a small camera is attached as the doctor inserts the tube through the mouth and into the stomach. It can detect cuts, lesions, ulcers and blockages that may be contributing to the problem.

The acid reflux tests are a necessary prelude to beginning a treatment regimen for acid reflux. Knowing what is causing the reflux and how it is affecting the digestive system is the first step in finding a cure.

If you have been diagnosed with having a long lasting health condition, then understanding it and learning what you can do yourself to manage it, can help greatly.

Having a chronic illness doesn't have to mean that it is dangerous or deadly, asthma, diabetes and arthritis are all classed as chronic conditions that can be kept under control with medication and supervision. Providing you take care and have the proper treatment, people with these conditions can lead a normal life and are healthy for the majority of time. Although the underlying condition won't go away and is always there, it can be controlled successfully.

Many people who have conditions such as asthma don't consider themselves as having a chronic condition as they feel relatively well most of the time and think of their illness as more of a condition. However, a few people are affected not only physically but also emotionally, socially and for some even financially. The severity of the way it affects you is based on the severity of your condition and the treatment involved in your particular condition. However you are affected by your condition it will take time to accept and adjust to your chronic illness.

There is a certain process that everyone will go through whatever their illness, this is known as the coping process. When first diagnosed with chronic illness the person may have many different feelings, anger, worry, confusion and vulnerability are some of the most common feelings. The next stage to the coping process is the want to know and learn everything they can about their illness, by gaining insight and knowledge into their condition it makes it less frightening and they feel more in control.

The third stage is developing confidence in the treatment they have been given for their condition. Realizing that their medication or treatment will help to relieve symptoms and attacks such as those associated with asthma and low blood sugar levels. Over time managing the condition becomes second nature and worry and fear drop off as the person becomes more confident with their self-management.

Everyone will go through the stages of coping at their own rate, recognizing the various feelings and thoughts as you go through different stages is important and are all part of the coping process. To help you get through the coping process you should remember these tips.

* Accept any feelings and thoughts – there are many emotions you may go through during the coping stage, it is important that you just let them come and go without giving them too much thought. Letting the feelings out by talking with someone can be a great release.
* Ask questions and play an active role in self-care – make sure that you know everything about your illness that you possibly can, the unknown can be frightening, but what we know we can deal with much better. Learn what you can do to help your condition and what to do during the bad times of it.
* Talk about your condition – remember other family members or loved ones will probably be going through similar feelings as you are after the diagnosis. Talk with family members and loved ones about your condition, don't leave them out of the loop
* Keep a perspective – when first diagnosed it can be easy to let your illness take over your life and become the most important thing, keep things in perspective and carry on living your life just as you did before.

This doesn't mean that you cannot follow your career goals and strive to accomplish the work you desire, but "where" exactly you can work is definitely slightly limited.

The FBI says no to diabetics

One such example of an area in which will not employ you due to diabetes is the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Of course not everybody aspires to be a member of this elite governmental agency, but if you have always wanted to work for the FBI, then having diabetes means that you must look for another line of work. The FBI has a strict policy called a "blanket ban" which denies employment to specific groups of people. One of these groups are men and women who require insulin.

You may not think it's fair for the FBI to practice such discriminatory action for people that have diabetes, but because the policy is so strict, there is no additional background information on individual which would change the rules. It doesn't matter how healthy you are, how young you are, or how well you manage your diabetes, if you need insulin then you are automatically shut out from the opportunity to work at the FBI.

The Military says no to diabetics

Joining the armed forces is one of most patriotic decisions a person can make. I should know because I personally served eight years in the United States Navy. It was the best time of my life and I'll always feel proud for obligating myself to serve the duty in which I felt I owed to this great country. However, had I been a diabetic then there would be no chance at all in signing up.

Just like the FBI and its policies, the military won't even consider accepting a man or woman that has diabetes, regardless of what type and how well it is managed. You are ineligible to serve. And if a person is currently serving in the military and then gets diagnosed with diabetes, either type 1 or type 2, then they may be discharged automatically and sent home to search out a different career.

Although it doesn't make that much sense, those of the rules. There are many people who successfully manage their diabetes and can do a great deal service to their country, but unlike other military services around the world, the United States will not take the risk.

Or can't breathe at all? The reason may be an inflammation of or infection in your sinuses, causing a condition called sinusitis. Other symptoms include coughing, sneezing, feelings of tiredness, aches, and constant low fever.

Because the signs are so much the same as a cold, people with sinusitis often mistake their condition for colds. But later, when the medicines they've been taking for treating the symptoms of colds don't seem to work, they go to the doctor who then examines them and tells them that they have sinusitis.

How does Sinusitis work?

To answer that question, we must first look into what the sinuses are. They are actually hollow cavities within the skull, surrounding the nose. Each of us has four sinuses: the frontal sinuses over the eyes in the brow area, maxillary sinuses inside each cheekbone, ethmoid sinuses just behind the bridge of the nose and between the eyes, and sphenoid sinuses behind the ethmoids in the upper region of the nose and behind the eyes.

These sinuses have a mucus lining that continue on to the nasal passages. The mucus helps keep the air that passes from the nose to the nasal passages clean and clear and dehumidified. When you have a cold, the cause of that is a viral infection in the nasal passages. As a result, more mucus is secreted by the mucus lining as more white blood cells are sent to fight the viruses in the infected area. This leads to swelling of the mucus lining, causing inflammation which then becomes the precursor of sinusitis.

Full-blown sinusitis causes blockage of the nasal passages, obstructing drainage and causing post nasal drips. Because of the blockage, the excess mucus produced is trapped inside the nasal passages where they accumulate and turn foul, leading to bad breath side effect. In addition, the trapped mucus due to sinusitis can become breeding grounds for bacteria that cause bad breath side effect.

The worst thing about this bad breath side effect is that you don't usually notice it since the infection has caused your sense of smell to become off. This bad breath side effect of sinusitis could very well be an embarrassing situation waiting to happen. Why allow it to happen?

How to treat Sinusitis?

The good news is that bad breath side effect of sinusitis may be treated by simply treating the sinusitis itself. And there are dozens of different over the counter nasal decongestants and antihistamines that will more than do their job of stopping sinusitis. These drugs act by relieving congestion and drying up excess mucus. However, in doing this, some of these drugs may also inadvertently cause bad breath side effect since dryness in the mouth is one of the most frequent causes of bad breath.

Drugs like Flonase are different, however. Flonase, generic name flonase floticasone, is a steroid based prescription nasal spray that treats sinusitis but does not have a bad breath side effect. Flonase has been used by many patients with sinusitis with good results. Using Flonase on a regular basis produces best results since it may take several weeks for the medication to give maximum effect.

Life events, or just a bad day can sometimes make us upset, and small things like bad traffic can make us irritable. But when a person experiences constant feelings of sadness and irritability, is exhausted with little or no activity, decreases in social activity or participating in usually enjoyable activities, that person maybe depressed. Symptoms of a depressed person include low self esteem, changing or irregular sleeping patterns, or spending lots of time thinking about things that have gone wrong. At this point in time there is no one known cause for depression, however some theories and studies indicate that severe cases of depression stem from events such as financial problems, relationship troubles, or the loss of a loved one. Sometimes the person's depression may stem from a trouble childhood or family conflict, especially ones that have to deal with parenting issues or between parents. Other times it could be a completely spontaneous mental problem that arises from seemingly nothing.

Women are twice as prone to depression as men. Women deal with more hormonal factors that give them a predisposition to becoming more likely to be depressed. Factors such as menstrual cycle, miscarriages, premenstrual syndrome and menopause all contribute to the increase in likelihood of a woman becoming depressed. Outside stressors and tensions of caring for children, overworking, and single parenthood is a definite factor in the episodes of depression in women as compared to men. That is not to say that men don't experience their fair share of stresses. Many men become depressed when they go through issues such as family court, job layoffs, or other huge disappointments.

Although there is no conclusive tests to diagnose depression, a good assessment of a person's family history or inquires involving physical or chemical abuses that may contribute to the patient's current mood. Once a diagnosis of some form can be completed most doctors will attempt to treat the depression with medications therapy or a combination of both. The importance of treatment should be stressed as a person who goes without treatment may experience continued negative affects in normal daily functioning, or even violence. Suicide attempts or trying to hurt someone else are all possibilities if the illness is gone untreated for too long. Treatments are usually a combination of drug therapy and professional counseling that requires immense family support. Anti-depressive drugs may be prescribed and have proven to be very successful in the treatment of depression. The family's support of the person who is coping with symptoms of depression is vitally important to recovery. Expressions of love, appreciation and normal communication should be the role of the family in the treatment of the person experiencing a depressive state. Other treatments are simple and only require adequate sleep, regular exercising, avoiding illegal drugs and alcohol, and eating a healthy diet. Depression is a serious problem that can be treated effectively if caught before severe depression has began to set in. Take the steps now to prevent serious or fatal consequences if you think that you or someone you know is depressed.

If you are feeling depressed yourself, then you should take action. You may have something stressful in your life. If so, remove it. Our time on life is short, and there is no reason why anyone should spend their precious time worrying about something.

However, you should strive to try to eat more fruits and other foods that are abundant in vitamin B3 before seeking supplementation. On the other hand, if you do not enjoy eating foods that are rich in niacin and/or suffer from allergic reactions to these foods, then taking the extra supplements will be beneficial.

Where can you find niacin supplements and how should they be taken?

Be sure to consult with your doctor before beginning any supplementation program or nutritional dietary change. Once you have, finding niacin (B3), is the easy part because you can find this supplement in most health food stores, as well as the vitamin section in standard grocery stores. However, if you are in need of very high doses then a prescription will be needed from your doctor.

Below are the various forms in which niacin is available in. You should choose one that caters to your needs and is the most convenient for you.

1. Like most supplements, niacin comes in tablets and capsules which are easy to swallow with liquids. Unless your doctor gives you specific instructions on timing, it is very common to swallow vitamin B3 tablets approximately 1 hour after your meals. Be sure not to chew or crush these tablets as it will greatly reduce the effect of absorption by the body.

2. Next you will find what is called "time released" capsules. Time release supplements allow them to slowly get absorbed by the body over a period of time. The difference between this and a standard niacin pill capsule is that the standard version will get the majority of its benefits absorbed immediately swallowed and the rest is discarded as waste. The body can only absorb so much of any nutrient at one time and because of this, time released capsules ensure that you are going to get the most out of them.

3. There are also injectable forms of niacin. You may have heard of people getting vitamin B shots from the doctor. This will give you a very quick boost of energy and if you do not mind needles then this procedure may suit you. However, it is quite expensive and most people do not have the time to schedule doctor appointments whenever they need to supplement with vitamin B3.

4. And for those people that cannot swallow pills and are unable to withstand having niacin injected by a doctor, this supplement also comes in powder form. You simply dilute a serving of niacin in most any liquid of your choice and swallow. Just like your tablets, this water solution should be taken approximately 1 hour after meals, unless of course your doctor says differently.

It is no different if you have an autistic child in the family. The important thing to remember is that you need to be prepared for whatever life throws your way. To an autistic child, vacations can be scary and confusing, or they can be a great learning experience, leaving behind wonderful memories the entire family can enjoy.

First, choose your location based on your autistic child's needs. For example, if he or she is sensitive to sound, an amusement park is probably not the best idea. Quieter vacations are possible at small beaches and by going camping. Overall, you should be able to find a location that everyone in the family enjoys. Once there, plan out your days accordingly. For example, you may want to see attractions very early or late in the day to avoid crowds. You also might want to consider taking your vacation during the off-season, if you children's school work will not be disrupted. These gives your autistic child more comfort if he or she is nervous in crowded situations, and provides you with piece of mind. When choosing a location, also note how far it is from you home. How will you get there? If you have to deal with an airport, remember that security may have to touch your child and be prepared for this.

Choose a location and activities that everyone can enjoy, but also that provide learning and social interaction opportunities for your autistic child. For example, a child that does not like touch sensations may enjoy the soft sands of a beach, and the waves can provide a very different kind of feeling for him or her. Being outside, a beach is also a great place for your child to yell without disrupting others. Children who are normally non-responsive may benefit from a museum, where they can ask questions and you can ask questions of them.

Remember that most people on vacation at the location you choose will have never dealt with autism before. Try to be understanding of their ignorance-but also stick up for your child if he or she is being treated unfairly. Know your child's constitutional laws, and also be willing to compromise. For example, if a restaurant is reluctant to serve you after your child caused a scene there last night, explain the situation and ask if it would be possible to take your food to go, even if this is normally not done. Try not to be rude to people; staring often happens, but instead of snide comments or mean looks, ignore them as much as possible and focus on having a good time with your family

Occurring in 60 to 70% of people with dementia above the age of 65, Alzheimer's disease is classified as progressive, which means that its symptoms grow worse over time. Basically, the disease gradually robs the sufferers of their ability to think and function, and may even reduce lifespan.

The Alzheimer's history began in the early 1900s – in 1906, to be exact. That year, Alois Alzheimer (1864-1915), a German physician well-known for his extensive work in neuropathology and histopathology with other big names in science, marked the Alzheimer's history by describing a condition of a certain middle aged patient of his.

The patient, named Auguste Deter, was only 55 years old when she died for reasons that puzzled her attending physicians, including Alzheimer himself. Her condition involved progressive problems with memory, language, and behavior. Little did anyone know that it would be her death that would signal the beginning of the Alzheimer's history.

After the death of Auguste D., Alzheimer, who was in Munich at the time, studied her brain to determine what the factors that caused her symptoms to appear were. There he found two changes in the tissue of the brain. During the course of the Alzheimer's history, these two changes would later become the essential features of this brain disease.

First are the tangles. Called Neurofibrillary tangles, these formations are intracellular abnormalities involving the cytoplasm of the nerve cell. In order to see them, one would have to use hematoxylin and eosin stain or through silver impregnation techniques, as well as Congo red or fluorescent dye thioflavine. These abnormalities are generally found in the cerebral cortex, especially in the temporal lobe structures such s the hippocampus and amygdale.

The second change that Alzheimer noticed is the neuritic plaques. In the Alzheimer's history, it has been found that these neuritic plaques are actually made up of protein called amyloid, which is naturally found in the body. But for reasons yet unknown, large deposits of this protein are formed between the nerve cells. Later, it was also discovered that the plaques also contained deposits of aluminum silicate, in addition to amyloid peptides, hence the term "amyloid plaques." This, along neurofibrillary tangles, are said to cause the symptoms of Alzheimer's.

Years after Alzheimer first described these essential features of the disease, scientists have gained greater insight into the genetic factors that contribute to Alzheimer's disease. In this period of Alzheimer's history, it has been found that there is a form of the disease that is mostly hereditary – that is, it is passed from one family member to another via their genetic makeup.

But much is still to be learned about Alzheimer's history before any real conclusions can be made. And at present, the research on Alzheimer's disease is more focused on finding ways to prevent the onset of the symptoms.

This usually occurs after eating a meal or drinking a drink which has an acid content. This is one of the acid reflux symptoms which is usually worse for the first two hours after a meal. Many people mistake it for chest pain when they first experience it. It is important to note that not all people with acid reflux experience this symptom.

Other acid reflux symptoms are having a dry cough that lingers, getting up in the morning with hoarseness, and the feeling that food is not going all the way down. Often these symptoms will get severe enough to cause one to vomit. For many people, when the esophagus stays irritated long enough, it will cause esophageal spasms which are often mistaken for heart related chest pain.

If left untreated, acid reflux symptoms can keep you awake at night and cause severe damage to the esophagus. Prescription medication for this disease is usually very expensive but there are medications out there that claim they will heal the damage which the esophagus has sustained.

Natural Home Remedies

For people who have mild or moderate acid reflux symptoms, they may be able to manage their symptoms at home using home remedies. The live cultures found in yogurt seem to help many people control their symptoms. Not only do the cultures help with the cooling of acid reflux burn, they are also good to treat other ailments of the body. Many health professionals recommend eating yogurt daily to help maintain a normal ph level in the body.

Apple cider vinegar is another product that seems to provide relief of the burn. If this sounds gross to you, try mixing it with a little water. As little as two tablespoons after each meal can be highly effective in reducing acid reflux symptoms. This is an inexpensive way to treat the symptoms without having to go to the doctor. Ironically, mixing a small amount of cayenne pepper in the apple cider vinegar also works quite well. Taking this mixture just before bedtime will probably insure you a good night's sleep which is free of pain.

Another well known home remedy is mixing baking soda with water. A couple of teaspoons mixed in a few ounces of water will usually provide immediate relief. This also has a dual purpose. Baking soda helps to relieve symptoms of gas which can be trapped in the stomach. Having less gas will usually mean having less heartburn and other acid reflux symptoms.

Yes, there is definitely a connection that indicates that drinking coffee is a major factor in causing heartburn. It is believed that one fifth of Americans that drink coffee are heartburn sufferers, and doctors advise their patients to limit the amount of coffee that they drink.

No Need To Give Up The Ubiquitous Cup Of Coffee

Does this mean that Americans will have to forego this beloved drink and go without caffeine for the rest of their lives? Is the link between coffee and heartburn so strong that one can no longer enjoy their coffee and will need to give it up? No, there is good news that shows that coffee and heartburn, closely linked as they may be, need not necessarily mean bidding adieu to the ubiquitous morning cup of coffee.

Coffee makers would have been run out of business had they not come up with processes that address this problem and help in making coffee a harmless beverage with the advent, in the 1930s, of decaffeinated coffee. Also, newer technologies have enabled coffee to be de-linked from heartburn and no longer does coffee have to be a reason why people suffer from heartburn.

Coffee and heartburn were, until the advent of decaffeinated coffee and newer innovations in coffee making, closely bound. What was once a stomach irritant is now an invigorating drink that does not cause high levels of acidity in the stomach, which is the main cause of heartburn.

The coffee that we were used to drinking produced more acid in the stomach than was acceptable to the human digestive system and that was the link between coffee and heartburn. Doctors thus had no option but to advise patients to abstain, or at the very least, limit their coffee intake.

With the emergent new techniques of producing coffee that is less of an irritation to the stomach, the coffee and heartburn link seems to have snapped, and with technologies such as Hevla, one sees coffee being produced using high pressure steaming of beans which helps remove the irritants from the coffee while still retaining the taste of coffee.

Now, thanks to the Hevla technology, people that had given up all hope of having their daily coffee have reason to hope once again as there is no longer a risk that coffee and heartburn will result in burning sensations in the chest. One can now savor the coffee, just as before, and still be free of heartburn.

This is a question that many people are asking any more. There are a few things that could be a sign of diabetes. They could be frequent urination, over weight, feeling real hungry, being fatigue, irritability, burred vision, and some unusual weight loss. That is to just name a few different sign of diabetes to use as reference but there are many more things your body will do to let you know about how your blood sugar levels are either high or low.

With some of the usual signs of diabetes, there are many different ideas out there to take in to mind as well. They could be things like when you get up in the morning and feel real dizzy and sick when you are walking around you could have low or high sugar levels. You will want to keep track of how often it happens so you can talk to your doctor about it. You may see some people that do have diabetes that are unable to make a small trip to the fridge because of being to dizzy. There are some that all they want to do is lay around all the time because of being dizzy. Really that is not good for them because when you are lying around all the time your body is not getting rid or producing the sugar like it should be.

The worse thing you can do is ignore the signs of diabetes because you are not just hurting yourself you are also hurting all of your family that does care about your health. You may think that they do not care because they are only around for holidays or when they want something. But you do need to think about the ones that call you everyday to just see how you are feeling. So do not ignore the signs of diabetes go to your doctor and have them check your sugar levels so you are not putting our health at risk. I think that your doctor would rather have you pestering him or her for a blood sugar test then something happening to you later on because you did ignore the signs of diabetes.
