Fortunately, there are number of modern methods for treating fine lines. However, when it comes to treating deep wrinkles like marionette lines the answer isn’t always so simple. While techniques like lasers and peels often work well for other skin ailments, they are almost completely ineffective at treating deep wrinkles. Let’s take a look at what your options are:

Injectable Fillers
This is probably the most effective method we currently have. Doctors that specialize in cosmetic procedures can offer this to you. Unfortunately the price is a sticking point for many – costing up to several hundred dollars per injection. Because of the price, a lot of people forgo this technique even though it’s effective.

Plastic Surgery
A face lift may be able to help with diminishing the appearance of these deep lines, depending on their location. Unfortunately this is a very costly procedure and the results don’t always look natural. The other drawback is scarring. There will be surgical scars near the hair line and under your ears after you get a face lift. True, there are many scar remover creams on the market, but not even these can completely eliminate a surgical scar. So if you are going to undergo this procedure, be sure to consider these points first.

Deviated Septum
When the bone inside your is crooked and slanted to one side, not only is this aesthetically displeasing, but it often makes breathing difficult. During a reconstructive nose job, the plastic surgeon will attempt to straighten out this bone as much as possible in order for the patient to experience a more normal breathing pattern.

Collapsed Alar Valve
This is another instance where the patient’s breathing is greatly affected. The alar valve is basically the nostril flap of your nose. Sometimes, one of these will collapse. The end result is the patient only being able to breathe out of one side of his or her nose. When both sides collapse – which does happen – it could be a matter of life or death, as without corrective surgery the patient will only be able to breathe out of his or her mouth.

If you feel you may be suffering from one of these deformities, the first step would be to visit a plastic surgery message board or other online discussion forum to educate yourself further about revision rhinoplasty. After that, you will want to consult a board certified plastic surgeon if you plan on undergoing this operation.

Guillain-Barre Syndrome is a rather uncommon disorder that is characterized by numbness or weakness in the lower extremities, and without treatment, quickly leads to full body paralysis and death. The symptoms of this disorder are rather specific and with early diagnosis and treatment, the recovery rate is quite high.

What Causes Guillain-Barre?

The exact cause of this disorder is not known. It is very uncommon and usually appears after a bout with the stomach flu or respiratory infection. Approximately 60% of people diagnosed with this disorder have recently had an infection in their digestive tract or lungs. Affecting only one or two people out of every 100,000, this disorder requires hospitalization. There is no cure, but with early diagnosis and care, most people will fully recover.

What Are the Symptoms?

The primary symptom of this disorder is tingling and weakness in your hands and feet. The “pins and needles” feeling can progress up the extremities. While most people experience the most weakness and tingling within three weeks after the onset of symptoms, there are some severe cases where total paralysis can occur within a few hours.

Other symptoms include an unsteady walk, extreme lower back pain, inadequate bladder and bowel control, low blood pressure and heart rate, and difficulty breathing. These symptoms may appear over time or within hours.

Diagnosis and Treatment

Early diagnosis of Guillain-Barre Syndrome is critical in reducing the fatality rate. While it can be difficult to diagnose this condition in its early stages, the most common tests include a lumbar puncture, which is more commonly known as a spinal tap. Electromyography and other nerve tests can be used to determine how severe the weakness and tingling is and if it is progressing.

Treatment is usually completed in one of two ways. The first is plasmapheresis and the second is intravenous immunoglobulin. Plasmapheresis is the process of removing and replacing the plasma in the blood that contains the damaged antibodies. Intravenous immunoglobulin adds healthy antibodies from blood donors to decrease the symptoms and effects of the disorder. Both treatments are equally effective.

Prognosis

Recovery from this disorder can take several years in the most severe cases; however, most people are fully recovered within a year with proper treatment. The key is not to wait to see your doctor if you experience any of the above symptoms, so that treatment may be started as soon as possible.

Most of America uses caffeine to give them a jolt in the morning to get their day started. Companies have built huge empires selling drinks with caffeine in them, and it can help you get rid of cellulite.

Lotions to reduce cellulite usually have caffeine as the primary ingredient, and it’s actually one of the only natural ingredients that has some clinical studies behind it. While caffeine, or any other natural ingredient, can melt away the fat that causes cellulite it can help to reduce the appearance of those pesky dimples that make you self conscious.

What does it do?

Caffeine is a stimulant. That’s the reason it perks us in the morning, it’s the reason some people can actually become addicted to drinking caffeinated beverages. How ever when we drink coffee or colas the caffine enters our blood stream but doesn’t really make it to our deep tissues.

For caffeine to help with cellulite it must be applied topically to the skin. This is why most cellulite removal creams contain caffeine. When the cream is applied to the skin and massaged it is absorbed. The ingredients can then enter the neighbouring blood vessels and tissues to begin action on your cellulite.

Caffeine starts by boosting the blood flow, which is other wise restricted, to the area affected by cellulite. This increased flow stimulates your bodies metabolic pathways which aids in a reduced appearance of cellulite.

Is it safe?

Cellulite lotions don’t contain enough caffeine to hurt you. How ever with that being said there are a lot of new allergies popping up. If you’re concerned you should check with your family doctor or a dermatologist before applying any anti cellulite product to your skin.

Since anti cellulite creams are a topical skin care product they are not regulated and aren’t considered to be medical or prescription products. They should be as safe as a skin moisturizer, but if you have concerns ask first and use the products second.

When you see nurses assisting the injured or helping the sick in movies, you can’t help but find yourself drawn to the idea of what it would be like to help others in need. If that sentence sounds familiar, then nursing may be the career for you.

Once you’ve identified that nursing is just what the doctor ordered for your career, the next thing would be to determine exactly what type of nurse you’d like to become, after all, all nurses are not created equal. Home health nurse, registered nurse, advanced registered nurse, nursing assistants- the many types can become overwhelming but with a little research, you can be well on your way to determining which nursing career is right for you.

Not surprising, the nursing healthcare profession encompasses one of the largest in the healthcare industry with more than 2.5 million working in the registered nursing field. 60% of the registered nurses work in hospitals, and registered nurses are at the forefront with patients and their family members.

Registered nurses require at least a (ADN) associate’s degree in nursing or even a (BDN) bachelors degree in nursing with all nurses being required to pass the general certification exam, also known as the NCLEX-RN.

Specialized nursing, such as nurse practitioners; clinical nursing, management and administrative all require at least a bachelor’s degree in nursing and often a master’s degree.

If you find yourself not having the time or even the means to complete a registered nursing degree, many local community colleges provide classes to become a nursing assistant, which would allow you to become a LPN (licensed practical nurse), a STNA (state tested nursing assistant) or even a CNA (certified nursing assistant). This will give the nurse trainees the opportunity work within the hospital setting while giving them the opportunity to further their nursing career if desired.

A special type of person is needed to become a nurse. One who understands and compassionate of the patients’ needs, and the needs of the patients’ family, all while making the patients care a priority. If this describes you, then you know you’ve found your career home.

When you woke up two days ago with a case of diarrhea, you chalked it up to the previous evening of excess and the combination of Mexican and margaritas. With you feeling worse than you did the morning after, the symptoms are a little more than your typical evening of excess but instead show symptoms of bacterial infection.

Often bacterial infection symptoms are difficult to diagnose in the beginning because they mirror so many non-bacterial symptoms, which tend to go away on their own within a few days. Bacterial infections tend to hang around until treated, simply because the human body is rarely strong enough to fight them off on it’s own.

Bacteria can be found in almost every surface found in the world and it isn’t any wonder that some of those bacteria enter our bodies and cause problems with our immune system. This can eventually create an infection that can leave us feeling less than stellar until we seek the appropriate treatment. Typical treatment will include a course of antibiotics ranging anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, depending on the severity of the infection.

In many ways, infections are like the gun fights of the Wild, Wild West days, they can be both dangerous and unpredictable but can be kept under control with the right sheriff in town, and in the world of bacterial infections, that sheriff is the antibiotic.

Since we can’t see bacteria with the naked eye, actually diagnosing the type of bacterial infection with the naked eye is impossible. This creates a situation wherein the healthcare professionals have to resort to blood tests to find out what type of bacteria they are dealing with and also to observe the symptoms in order to eliminate some options and provide an accurate diagnosis as to what type of infection you have and the proper course of antibiotics.

Remember that long gone are the days of shoot em ups in the Wild, Wild West, and even those of us with the best weapons of defense, good health can find ourselves victim to bacterial infections. If you are having any lingering problems, such as nasal discharge, for example, you should contact your physician for a diagnosis, and you’ll be up and at em’ again in no time.

In the world of nursing, the Certified Nursing Assistant is considered to be the “Jack of all Trades”. This means that while they may not have the medical know how of a Registered Nurse, they are often considered the ears and eyes of an RN. Nursing Assistants are often called to help monitor and comfort patients, help with surgery, dispense medications to patients and often offer words of comfort and encouragement to distraught family members while the hospital staff are working with the sick or injured family member.

To become a Certified Nursing Assistant, you must make contact with the registration board in the state in which they live, or plan to practice to find SNTA (State Tested Nurses Aide) or CNA courses in their area. The person must be able to complete a pre determined training time of 75 hours, with an included 16 hours of mandatory clinical time. Once the required hours and clinical time have been completed, it is then time for the Nursing Assistant Exam, which the laws in most States require that the person is signed up for the exam within 90 days of completing their clinical hours.

Once you’ve passed the Nursing Assistant Exam (both the written and clinical), and become certified, you’re ready to put your “Jack of all trades” skills to work. With advancement opportunities being good, many Registered Nurses find themselves becoming Certified Nursing Assistants before deciding to become Registered Nurses. With the course length being anywhere between four to twelve weeks (depending on that particular states requirements), to become a Certified Nursing Assistant, it allows them hospital time and allows them the opportunity to earn money while they continue with their education to get their nursing diploma.

Don’t be intimidated by the Nursing Assistant Exam. If you are well versed in all that you’ve learned over the duration of the course, then the exam should come easily for you. Spend time before the exam studying with classmates and critique each other on various clinical activities as a method of discovering things that have room for improvement. Before you know it, the stress of the exam will be behind you, and you’ll be walking into the hospital or clinic all smiles and starting your first day as a Certified Nursing Assistant.

Seems like everywhere we look we are either hearing about a new one, or an old one that has been lingering around for years. Don’t we all wish avoiding viral infections were as simple as shouting out the command to “Step away from our families”? Even though it isn’t quite that simple, it is possible to keep them some of them at bay by good personal hygiene, using masks and gloves in areas where viral infections can be found, or by keeping things clean around your home.

Below you can find a list of some of the most common viral infections.

Warts- Many of us never consider a wart to actually be a viral infection of the skin, but it is. While most of us will at least find ourselves with at least one or two warts in our lifetime, warts tend to be more prevalent in those with immune deficiencies, with genital warts being a virus which is sexually transmitted and effects female and male genitalia and sexual organs.

Influenza- As we all know, influenza is a viral infection that yearly affects millions of people the world over. Each year usually finds a new strain, often that has jumped from an animal some have close contact with, such as chickens or pigs, and new strains are usually versions of evolved strains from the previous year.

Chicken Pox- Most people associate this common viral infection with children, and while it is a common viral infection amongst children causing minor discomfort, for adults who actually contract this virus, the effects can be much more severe.

Common Cold- At some point or another in our lives, we’ve all had the viral infections that produce the common cold, even if the symptoms are as minor as a cough, runny nose or even sneezing.

While this is not a list of all common viral infections, it is a list of some of the most common that we may encounter in our lives on a daily basis. Even though as parents, we find ourselves wanting to protect our families from these common viral infections such as the common cold and influenza, there isn’t much we can do to prevent it from happening. It’s one of those little facts of life that we all have to accept and live with. Luckily it’s generally for a short amount of time.

There are hundreds of anti wrinkle treatments available. From department store shelves to your local drug store how the heck do you choose a product that works.

From personal experience there’s only one sure fire way of finding an anti aging cream that delivers results.

You have to analyze the ingredients, and look for products that offer clinical testing results on the ingredients included in their products. I know what you’re thinking, how the heck do you evaluate a cream at your department store this way? You can’t.

Most department store anti winkle creams are over priced skin creams that you could probably get at a pharmacy. Instead of going to a department store I suggest you start your research online. There is more information available and a lot more products to choose from. For those of you who might be a little nervous about making a purchase on the Internet don’t be. There are more security measures taken today then ever before to ensure your private information stays safe and protected.

To start your search for the top anti wrinkle cream I’d suggest using skin care forums where you can interact with other women who have used anti aging products or are also looking for a good product to try. Here you can read the stories of how other people faired with particular products and separate the winners from the losers.

The majority of companies selling anti wrinkle eye creams and such on the web also offer a complete list of the ingredients used. You can easily evaluate what’s in the product and also look for supporting evidence that those ingredients have been proven to produce results.

Merchants who are offering a product with all natural ingredients usually don’t have a lot of clinical proof that the ingredients work, but they will offer a lot of hype. Some natural products do work, how ever more women have found luck with a product that contains break through ingredients that have been lab tested.

A few key ingredients to look for are: Matrixyl® and Sesaflash®

Both of these ingredients have been clinically tested and you’ll be able to find reports on who well the ingredients work and what you can expect to see for results.

Weight gain can be an achievement, a curse or just a down-right horror! If you have a real reason to be concerned, one that is justified by abnormal standards, then here are some things you might need to know.

Slim people who have a high metabolic rate burn calories very quickly and seem to stay on the slim side. Young men who are in high school feel inferior if they are slim and wish that they could have that football player’s physique. There are some considerations before beginning a crash course to gain some pounds. You need to talk with your doctor.

Today there are too many wonder remedies to everyday concerns. Why would you choose to go it alone with the ads in the back of the magazines? Consulting with you doctor is really much better because he will let you know what is FDA approved and what is really just a scam. Your health is more important than choosing the seemingly easy way out.

Your doctor will recommend supplements and may want you to get involved in an exercise program to help you build muscle along with the intake of the supplements. Muscle gain is extremely important when you are trying to sculpt a better body.

Perhaps you have the opposite problem and you can’t imagine how you have gained weight. Many factors influence weight gain. Everything from a change in lifestyle to new medications, to injuries and lack of exercise. Oh, by the way, overeating is a huge factor. Find out what is the proper number of calories you should consume for your age, sex and height. Charts are available on the Internet and in books. It is so easy to justify that ice cream cone in the summer or those hot chocolates in the cold months.

Calories are calories and if you consume more than you body needs, they become stored as fat. Younger men and women have an easier time losing weight by watching calories and exercising. Their metabolism, or the rate at which their bodies use the energy from calories, is much higher than that of the middle-aged or older person.

Medications that cause weight gain can be monitored or adjusted by your doctor, but when it comes to antidepressants, you must to talk to your doctor before you quit your medication.

Older seniors are no longer as active as they once were and tend to hold on to the pounds that come along. Thankfully, their appetites don’t seem as huge as they once were either. A healthy life style is still very important, and the elastic waistbands really are not as ugly as some may think…one extra inch should not be considered as ugly. It is when the inches keep growing that you need a doctors help! Being happy is an important part of a healthy lifestyle.
