So often what we focus on can bring us to a place that we need to pay attention to. I say this after an extremely emotional day of ups and downs. Yesterday Harry and I worked on putting together a video that is about child abuse. It was about my child abuse and therefor it was rather a difficult and painful place for me to go. None-the-less, I feel that it is an extremely important issue and I recognize that so long as I am coming from a pro-active place in my re-involvement with those memories then I can justify this discomfort.

As soon as we completed filming I said, “O. K. Now lets go out and be with friends and talk about positive things like, my new book Soul Talking – “Wisdom in Rhyme”. So we did that and, lo and behold, we met some wonderful people and had truly positive connections there and the buzz about my book gave me such a high – I felt great.

From there we went to the local theater to see “Precious”. This was an amazing movie and so well done – but of course, due to content, very difficult to watch. Once again I connected to the importance of the issue of child abuse. I also spent time after the movie ended talking to various people about the importance of opening our eyes to what we, as individuals, can do to bring awareness to child abuse and how we can make a difference by being involved.

Being involved in conversation about what we can do, to be involved in bringing assistance to all those in need, is in itself a high.

Dreams Come True

For these past 10 years I have been focused on a dream. Now this part of the dream has come to fruition and you might say, “What took so long?” Well, timing is everything and I totally understand that I was not ready before to deal with all that it takes to put a book out. I actually did all the writing and what I had not done was to “live” the book. After all, the book may seem to be a book filled with poetry and it is more than that. It is a book filled with lessons. It is a book, documenting what, ways of being, suit me best.

Now I can honestly say that I have truly “lived” the book. I live, eat, sleep and breathe this book. It contains so many lessons taken from my life and my interaction with many others. I am “Soul Talking” – “Wisdom in Rhyme”!

I have just spent this weekend making videos of some of the poems and giving the reader a little extra to go with the book. Harry has spent countless hours working on these videos and I guarantee that he will not leave a stone unturned when it comes to promoting this book.

The other major dream to come true is my “That Little Feeling Workshop” (T.L.F.W.) designed especially for children ages 7 through 10 years old. T.L.F.W. teaches the children to stay in touch with their intuition. The Historic Milton Theatre is sponsoring this workshop and all I can say is, “It is a hit!” The children love it and the parents seem to be thrilled with it. They are only sorry it does not run three days a week instead of one!

I have never lost sight of these dreams and I must say that clear intention was with me at all times. I thank God for my believing in right out-workings and always being true to this understanding.

Wellness Credit?

Being one of the millions of people who have chosen, for one reason or another, to deny myself the privilege of Health Care coverage, I feel it my civic duty to be absolutely prudent in my personal health care. I exercise, eat healthfully and live from a place of high integrity when it comes to my interaction with my world around. I treat others as I would have them treat me. And in all of this I expect to maintain an extremely healthy being.
I believe that if more of us could experience a more healthy way of living, less of us would need to put ourselves at the mercy of the Insurance Companies that are literally gouging the general public.
Instead of us working so hard to fix what might happen if we get sick, we might want to take responsibility for being well.
It is just a thought! More focus needs to go into Preventative Care and less on the what if we get sick. The whole situation is being looked at by a group of people whose need to be “right” is overwhelming the entire process.
I want to hear more about what if we, as individuals, finally began to take responsibility for our Wellness. The Doctors could still earn a living and they could do it by teaching Preventative Care.

Why Question?

Why is it that I question the me I’ve come to know? Why is it that I doubt myself at all? Why, when I know better, do I question what’s my role? Then I turn my back on all the gifts that permeate my soul.

It’s so easy to erase what’s true by thinking I’m not right; that the scarcity I’m focused on is all I have in sight. I know, deep down inside me, that all I choose to see is right within my reach – should I choose to set it free.

Why should it take an earthquake to cause the world to share? When the truth is all wealth’s for everyone. We are all God’s loving family – sharing the same sun. No-one should be hungry; no-one should feel cold; no-one should ever worry about getting very old.

This world belongs to all of us. This is plain for me to see. We are here to help each other and to live eternally. We are here to share the gifts we have – never questioning the source – always full of clear intention – keeping us on course.

Whatever we intend will happen – when we’re clear on that intent. All we do is hold the dream and know that it is meant.

Count Down – Need Your Help

It is only days before “That Little Feeling Workshop” begins at the Historic Theatre of Milton. On March the 3rd, 2010 at 3pm the doors will open and up to 20 children, ages 7 through 10 will enter and take part in this super, interactive and positively, designed workshop. This is my dream project that I have been working on for these past few years and now it is coming to fruition.

I need your help! We have received a small Grant that will afford the workshop a 5 week run. We have requested assistance in the way of goods from various local businesses and some of them have been gracious in helping us out. However, we are still in need of some special supplies. For instance we need 2 Easels and special pads for working with the children. We need Magic Markers in all colors. We need a recording device to capture the children’s musical creations. Staples has been approached and they have not yet answered our request.

As this program is so special and will make a difference for children and their families and I plan to have this continue, I need someone special to jump up to the plate and make a difference along with me.

Balancing the Ball

Balancing the “ball” we call “life” can be the most overwhelming procedure that we ever undertake. But without balance in our lives we are merely existing and who wants to merely exist?

When someone asks you, “How is your life?” how often do you say, “I am having a ball!” Well here is the deal – you can be making that a part of your every day conversation. It will take some dedication on your part to create this and who wouldn’t like to have their life be a “ball”?

It is my belief that life is supposed to be fun and we are supposed to have a “ball” even at those times that are stressful. When faced with a challenge we simply need to remember one thing. This is my prescription for bringing a solution to any challenge. Write this on sticky notes and place them all over your home and car and office.

“A CHALLENGE IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE PERFECTION.” You heard it here! The upshot of this is by celebrating challenge you will bring about a solution in the form of a miracle.

Bring balance into your life by ridding yourself of the “got to does” and replace them with the “get to does”. This, in itself, will reduce the stress and free up some time for fun!

Understanding balance always brings about solution. Balance the ball and have a “ball”. It’s your life – why not live it to the fullest and have a “ball”? No excuses – Balance the “Ball”!

So Many Roads?

So often I get swept up in the avenues of life – giving all my passion to the intricacies of where they lead – then suddenly, out of the blue there appears before me a wall. This wall has an abundance of signs on it and depending on which angle I take to read these signs I can either feel defeated or elated. The knowledge, inside my being, says that everything is possible and I have had this proven to me over and over again. However, there are times I feel so overwhelmed by the awesome responsibility, that comes with that knowledge, I feel the need to step away – to hide.

I have been blessed with so many creative gifts and I am so grateful for these gifts. When I keep myself in that place of possibility I know that I have the ability to channel these gifts appropriately that they will fall totally in line with what I believe to be my life purpose*. There are consequences, however, if I read those signs with a defeatist attitude. Then nothing is possible!

What do I do? I stop. I breathe. I close my eyes and breathe again, deeply. I validate my magnificent power and ask myself, “What do you want?” I breathe again, deeply. Then I ask myself, “What is your intention?” Whatever the response to the intention question is – is what I then visualize – with every fiber of my being – so that I will bring about the subject or object of my visualization.

This is the only road I choose to take in order to keep me on the path toward continually, fulfilling my life purpose. *My life purpose is to make a difference in this world through my words and my music.

What to Call it?

Recently Harry suggested that I might be interested in having a radio show. You know – I’ve been thinking about this and I realize that is a great idea. Being one who loves to philosophize on life and all of life’s meaning, this would give me the opportunity to present a point of view of any given life topic, and then invite others to call in and give their opinion and create a point of discussion.

The thrust of the conversation would center around spiritual philosophy and the different ’synchronicities’ that are becoming part of our lives. This would require making a bold statement regarding thoughts and beliefs that I have regarding how life works. This would require, perhaps, taking a huge risk in speaking out loud about the true nature of my philosophy. This would require me to be willing to be wrong in others eyes. Am I up for that? Yes! It is time.

So what do I call it? What do I name this radio show?

I am thinking of a pivotal time in my life when I truly discovered what it means to take full responsibility for living my life. If is is to be it is up to me. I actually get to choose the course of my life in the most powerful sense of the word. It is my decision. The scenario that brought this understanding to me will be covered in the opening show. The title is “Decide to Live”. This is what the radio show will be called.

Just When You Think You’ve Heard It

It took me a long time to truly understand the philosophy behind acceptance. Before I might have argued that if you accept ‘it’ then you are agreeing to ‘it’. Yes! it might mean that but it does not necessarily follow.

Situations present themselves to us every minute of the day and the most marvelous think is that we actually get a choice as to how we respond to the situation. Too often, however, we react in a way that creates more anxiety than is ever necessary.

This amazing thing we call breathing, which is our life force, is too often taken for granted and not used in the appropriate manner. Just one deep breath could save us from so many uncomfortable moments in time.

What if we paid more attention to the power we give to the energy that is all around us in the way of negative input? (“The economy sucks!” “This President is not doing a good job!” “This person is bad!” “This is the wrong way to do that!” and so on………)

When we recognize the amount of power we give to those conversations, We might find ourselves making different decisions regarding our involvement. Choosing to not give our power to those negative conversations can begin with simply accepting what has been said as the opinion of the speaker and nothing more. This way we free ourselves up for other, more important ways to use our energy.

Hey! I am all for conserving energy. I’ll accept what is and move on. Boy! I feel so energized I just might go and exercise! Or not! The sky is the limit. It is all up to me.

It Happens to All of Us

Have you ever had a bad day? Have you ever felt you needed to question your feelings of self-worth? Have you ever felt that you could not handle one more negative thing happening to you?

If anyone said no to any of these questions – I want to meet you! It is my point of view that “It happens to all of us………..at some time or another. It is how we handle these situations that can be the difference between giving up or moving on. These powerful times occur when we least expect it and often blind side us with their power over us. It is my suggestion that their is a special way of handling these situations. There are 4 components I have observed that go into creating good out of all the bad. The first of these is acceptance. Whoa! Did I say acceptance? Yes! I did say acceptance, only when you choose to accept that this is the situation right at this moment can you begin to change the situation. The second is focus. Chances are that all that you are focusing on is the negative situation. What do you want? Focus on that! The third component is intent. When you are intent on having what you want you will bring about the object or subject of your intention. And the fourth and last of these words is joy. There is no-one in the world who has no desire to feel joy. Joy in experiencing success in any avenue of your life can bring about amazingly powerful feelings that may include peace, love and the ability to create great success in all you do.

Remember this. You are a human being. And when you are in a place of acceptance, focusing on your intention you are creating joy! It is all about how you are being!

So the next time you are having a bad day – simply check into how you are being and follow the recipe for success as stated above. Try it – you’ll love the results.

Nothing is New – Only the Way We See It

Not even our thoughts are new! It is merely the way our thoughts combine that make, what appears to be, new. Even the so called “new inventions” are re-surged thoughts combined in a new way. Often you will hear someone say, as they view a “new invention”, “Oh! my Goodness! I thought about doing something like that years ago and quickly dispelled the thought as “impossible”! Well – did you ever?” This is why it is so important to be in the moment and pay attention to your thoughts – they all have meaning and as you have experienced, nothing is impossible. Remember to keep in mind the old adage “the gift is the present”.

We spend so much time re-living the past moments or worrying about the future moments we don’t get the ‘gift’. So often, when we are in conversation with a friend, we are contemplating our response and not fully paying attention to the information that they are relaying to us. And, if we are doing that to them, chances are that they are doing that to us! Oops! now that does not feel good. you know what they say, “What you are giving – you are getting!” Also the solution to every problem lies within the problem itself. We spend so much time blaming outside sources when sometimes we just need to stop, look at the ‘problem’ and recognize the ‘gift’!

As I write this piece, I am looking out of my window at the snow that has fallen, covering the limbs of the tree outside and it is glistening in the sunlight against the azure sky – what a gift! How picturesque this little scene is at this moment and in only a few hours it will be gone. It is not a new scene – only slightly different from the previous snow fall – but I choose to enjoy it in this moment. I am ever so grateful for this moment.

I find it amazing that we (humans) get so caught up in history! That is, that every moment is new in time and we can create new outcomes. When we listen to the rhetoric of today’s conversation, which drags yesterdays conversation and the day be-fore’s conversation of a broken economy – then we repeat that conversation – we only cement the same result for this day! Shifting our focus to the possibilities of change and what we can do in our own personal lives, to alter this situation, is the difference between remaining stagnant in the broken economy and healing the economy.

So the next time someone tries to engage you in a conversation about the poor economy, say, “But that was then!” Needless to say this may invoke a blank stare. However, you might add a little information about what you are doing in your life to enhance the economy for you. If we each take responsibility for our conversation regarding this economy and make it our purpose – we, together, can effect huge change in the outcomes that we are experiencing.

Just think how this way of thinking and behaving can flow into all areas of ones life! We can get that career that we have always wanted, the home we have always wanted, the relationship we have always wanted, the body we have always wanted – Oh! the sky is the limit. Just remember – “but that was then!” and ” Now I am doing this….!”

Everybody’s saying, “There goes another year!”
They wonder if you’ve made your resolutions
And I think to myself – “Yes…I did last year
And look where that got me…
You see – I am realizing more and more
That the year goes by long before
We’ve taken time to practice our intentions
So perhaps it would be the best idea for me
To make resolutions daily – to go through my life gaily
Giving all the best I can to please me and my fellow man
To be thankful for the gifts I have
And to share without reservation
It seems to me that so many times
When I give my smile, a listening ear
Or even write to someone dear
I find that I feel so much better
Than if I had just received a letter
Don’t get me wrong – I love receiving
But there’s so much fun in leaving
Someone with a smile instead of sadness
So each day in 2010
It is my plan to never wait
For someone else to say, “Hello!”
Or to cheer someone who’s feeling low
To be loving, good and kind
And to keep an open mind –
When I see things that may upset me
To be positive about each day
And know that no matter what
There is a reason I am here
And that is not to wallow in some fear
Of not succeeding
No-one can ever succeed
If negatives like fear and greed
Override the feelings of success
I say it very honestly
That for 2010 to be
A happy year for me
I’ll just live it for each day
So that I can truly say
Each night when I lay down to sleep
That I did my very best
Though it seemed to be a test
And tomorrow I will strive to do it better

Why is it? When we Say we Want Peace……..

Why is it, that, when we say that what we want the most is peace, we act in ways that are not in line with our desire? We judge – we compare – we even ridicule and then we say we want peace? What is this all about? Now don’t tell me that you do not fall into any of these categories. Or perhaps I should say that if you do not fall into any of these categories – I would love to meet you and gain knowledge from you on how you can actually go through your life – being perfect.
Harry and I have recently moved to a wonderful town in Delaware. There is something that attracted us to this place and created a feeling for us that this is the place that we are supposed to be. And yet I am finding that, in so many ways, I feel that I have stepped back in time.
O.K. so now you are saying what does she mean? So here’s the deal! A ‘for instance’ might be this. We met a young lady, who owned a restaurant and invited us to join her staff. She made it clear to us that she, ultimately, wanted to own a “Gay Bar”. This, however, was an all inclusive restaurant. People of all races, religions and sexual preferences were made welcome at this restaurant. Yet, when a gay couple would be seated she would make it clear to me that she did not want Harry to wait on these people and actually said that it would be better if they were waited on by a gay wait person. Why is it? What kind of way is this to make peace?
Yet one more ‘for instance’ is this. The little town we live in shows, to me, a clear delineation, where Blacks and Whites are concerned and this is where I feel we have stepped back in time. People I have spoken to profess their openness to all but I see very little proof of this in the different social gatherings I have attended. In fact they still have a black Masonic Lodge and a White Masonic Lodge and they seem to be quite o.k. with this approach.
At a recent Holiday gathering, that was held in the town Fire Hall, I noticed that only one Black Artist was present. His work is amazing and I would find it hard to believe that he is the only Black person in this town who is talented and gifted with such great artistry. Harry and I spoke to this artists wife and made mention of the fact and how all this affects us. She shared with us a story of a recent involvement she had had, in this area, with discrimination. It broke my heart to hear her story and I was truly touched. Then she went ahead and spoke of her feelings about the gay people that are living in this area. Her conversation was not kind when it came to the gays. So, you see, she was also wanting peace but she was being anything but peaceful in her conversation. I am clear that this is a judgment on my part, and I take full responsibility for that. I am merely pointing out the fact, that if we are to experience peace in our lifetime, it is time for us to be accepting and tolerant of each other and mindful of our true desire for peace. Why is it that we say we want something – then we act completely differently to this thing that we say we want? It is time for us to take responsibility for our conversation and have it be in line with our true desire.

Oh! Deer!!

No – I did not miss spell deer. You know they say, “always good comes from bad”? I am one of those who believe that this is so. However, here’s the deal, Harry and I were traveling home the other night and suddenly a herd of deer jumped into the road before us. We were driving at the regulated speed of 50 miles an hour and there was no way to avoid hitting one of those beautiful creatures. The positive news is that neither Harry or I were hurt in the collision. The automobile, however, was badly damaged – not to mention the fact that Harry and I were badly shaken up by the event.

It is almost 24 hours since the accident and I have to say I had been wondering what the “good” is in this scenario when it suddenly dawned on me – dah! there had been approximately 7 deer headed at full gallop across the road in front of us, there was a vehicle about 15 feet behind us (way too close), one deer made it across, the second one collided with the front end of our vehicle and miraculously the other 5 deer were safe and so was the vehicle behind us – he even passed by us right after the deer ran into us. We just witnessed a miracle! This is the good that comes from bad.

For all those of you out there who are wondering what happened to that deer. We believe that he was only grazed as there was no blood, only a little deer hair stuck in the side lights. It is now clear to me just how dangerous this scenario is or could have been. We were fortunate that we were not injured. It is definitely time for the Department of Highways to think about fencing those areas of the roadside where the deer regularly cross. Just thinning out herds will not do it. No-one, traveling at 50 miles an hour, could possibly have avoided hitting the deer. We were fortunate – but others are not. Oh! dear!

I Gave Myself a Huge Lesson

Sometime ago, driven by Spirit, I agreed to go on a Retreat as part of a team involved in Success Coaching. I had no idea how I was going to fund this trip and that was o.k. because I knew that it was to be an important time in my life. As it so happens, when the time finally came to go, I received a credit card in the mail which more than covered the cost of the journey. I thanked God for this outcome and went to Italy to attend the retreat. I also took the time to visit my family in Spain, Germany and England while I was overseas.

I returned from my trip in a wonderful place of peace. I worked hard and began to pay off the credit card. At times I would pay twice the necessary minimum payment just to get closer to paying off the card.

My ‘come from’ about money, most of my life, has been that it would always be there when I needed it. Then something happened that brought question to this way of thinking for me. I was told by my employer that I would be receiving a $14,000.00 per year reduction in pay! At that time I made a decision about myself that would change my life. I put on a scarcity mask and my whole conversation about money changed from “there is always plenty!” to “there is never enough!”

Universe has shown me how that kind of thinking has defined my life since then and I now take full responsibility for that and all the debts that have surrounded me. However, it is now become important for me to be with my family. This means that I am charged with putting my appropriate thoughts together to make this happen.

To go back and beat myself up for the decisions I have made in the past regarding scarcity would be shear folly. I choose to come from abundance and begin to re-pay the debts I have incurred by my flawed thinking and take that trip to be with my beautiful, loving family, ideally, including my husband Harry.

So I am now leaving the door wide open to receive the new job that will help to bring all of my intentions to fruition. I am looking and listening for all the signs and sounds that will tell me that I am on the right path. All I can tell you is that it is working!

Don’t you Just Love It?

Don’t you just love it when that call you’ve been waiting for comes in? Or that person you’ve been missing, shows up? Or that perfect fabric you’ve been looking for comes into view? Don’t you just love it when you suddenly discover that someone, you thought you knew well, reveals that they are just the exact person you’ve been needing to find after all?

The crazy thing is that these things are happening or have the ability to happen all the time. We are often the ‘thing’ that is in the way of the revelation. Why? I’d say that often we simply don’t believe that they are possible or that we are so busily trying to make them happen we don’t even notice that they already have happened. It is time for us to slow down and smell the roses.

I recently moved to “slower Delaware” from Maryland and things here don’t happen too quickly and there is a reason for that. No – it is not to drive the ‘Marylander’ crazy! I am clear that the reason is to create the opening for amazing things to reveal themselves. For example:

A short while ago Harry and I were doing some work for a restaurant in the area and we arrived at work one day and the owner asked us to go out and hand out menus, inviting people to come to the restaurant. Well I was really upset at having to do this on this particular day. First of all I did not feel that I could sustain an hour of walking around town and then stand on my feet for another 8 or more hours. Also I knew that Harry could not make any money wandering around town. So I felt impatient and truly p.o.’d. However, Harry was in a great frame of mind as he had quickly gotten back into the pace of Delaware (his home state). He turned to me and said, “Oh! come on – suck it up and let’s get on with it!

As we turned the corner on the board walk he almost bumped into this man and woman. So he gave them a menu and invited them to come and have lunch at the restaurant then took his time to find out where they were from and ask them what their interests were. This paid off – big time! By taking his time he ended up creating some other business for himself (not related to the restaurant) and this has given Harry an opportunity to relax into what he truly has a passion about! Had he not had this more laid back approach, chances are we would not have met and he might have gotten caught up in my drama and missed this whole opportunity. Don’t you just love it!

Hold on Get Ready for the Ride!

In this past two weeks, Harry and I have been on a merry-go-round! We have moved into our new home. We have begun new jobs. I have done some entertaining. We have met some wonderful, new friends and begun new, and improved, relationships. We have said “Goodbye!” to relationships that no longer fit. We are exploring many new avenues. We are also investigating the possibilities of re-vamping old avenues of interest. People are coming into our lives that are making all these things become possible, sometimes, only seconds after we have discussed the different possibilities.

The other day, we were talking about how nice it would be to get a stereo system for our home. Within a few minutes I got an email from one of our new friends, stating that she was holding a yard sale the next day. We decided to drop by her yard sale and there, right in the center of all of her ’stuff’ was a perfect stereo system. We gladly handed her $10.00 and picked up a few other ‘treasures’, returned to our home and shortly after our return we were dancing around our living room to the sounds of our ‘new’ stereo system!

Believe me, I am truly aware that this ‘ride’ is exactly what we signed up for. There is a great excitement, with Harry and I, over this special time in our lives and we know, that although to others our journey may seem odd, we are clear that there are no accidents and we are doing exactly as we should in order to truly ‘live’ our lives. We have decided to let ‘Spirit’ guide us and we are clear that all we need to do is to hold on and get ready for the ride!

Try it – you might enjoy it! You have everything to gain and nothing to lose. Who knows? You might even find that old joy that has been elusive to you!

New Meaning to Fast Track!

Before you read any further – if you haven’t read “Trust Versus Worry” – go back and read that – then you will ‘get’ this, the rest of the story.

One must be really careful what they ask for because, as long as one’s intention is truly clear, things begin happening so fast they can make your head spin!

Why am I saying all this? Well here’s what happened since I chose to change my mind and step out of the victim space. This past few weeks have absolutely flown by. Mid September Harry and I jumped on the “Trust” wagon and allowed Spirit to guide us on an amazing journey. We began by packing up the car and taking off for the nearest beach, which just happens to be, Rehoboth, Delaware. The last thing that I put into the car was my copy of Soul Talking (my book that is still waiting to be published ) I was not sure why I made a point of including that in our items to be packed, but that would soon no longer be a mystery to me.

We took a different route to the beach than we normally take and as we approached a certain intersection I found myself directing Harry to “turn right!” Harry generally likes to humor me and I thank God he did this particular time. We found ourselves in this neat little township of Milton. As we drove by the Lions Club I happened to notice that the next week they would be having a “Spaghetti Dinner”.

After a short stop at the local Coffee House, we took ourselves on a wander around this lovely little town. At one point Harry spotted a waterfall in the distance and we sauntered along a path that took us in the direction of the waterfall. As we approached the water I got this amazingly, overwhelming feeling of “deja-vu”! I also got this emotional wave and tears flowed and all I knew is that I felt like I was coming home. I turned to Harry and said,”This is where we are supposed to be!” We walked on and found ourselves in this park and there, seated on one of the park benches was John Milton, the poet. I thought about my poetry book, Soul Talking, that I had been so careful to bring with us on our journey. The most significant thing about all of this is the feelings that we both were experiencing.

We traveled onto the beach and took the next few hours to just soak in the sun and contemplate the feelings we were having regarding our diversion through Milton. Harry and I were deep in thoughts about what was going on in our lives and although it was a magnificent day we allowed it to slide by into the early evening when we were beginning to actually feel a little chill. We gathered all our goodies together, took them to the car,then sauntered along the streets of Rehoboth until we spied a special restaurant that had a menu that appealed to both of us.

By the time we had finished our meal and spent some time with the owner of the restaurant we had, pretty well, decided that we wanted to work there. Only a few days later we confirmed this with the owner and on that same day we realized that we needed to get a new home closer to our jobs. Then I remembered the “Spaghetti Dinner” at the Lions Club in Milton.

That evening we sauntered into the Lions Club an Milton and introduced ourselves to the gathered throng and let them know that we need to find a new place to live. By 9pm on that very evening, we met our new landlords and essentially had an agreement on our new home.

One week later we began our new jobs and two weeks later the movers came and moved our home from Annapolis, Maryland to Milton, Delaware. Meanwhile our landlords were kind enough to allow us to stay in our “new home” before we actually made the move and they did not charge us for that.

So much has happened since we both made the decision to change our attitude and trust in the graciousness of the Universe. Listen folks, I am totally aware that what we have done is, to many, is extreme and unusual but it has just begun a whole new life for us and we are loving it, with all the turns and twists…………………………….watch this space!

Angelic Interference

Just when you think you’ve heard or seen it all, yet one more thing occurs and lets you know that you know very little! Our airwaves are buzzing with information and ‘mis’-information that we can take or leave and then too, some of this information we are being ’silently’ guided to ignore or leave alone. What do I mean by this? Well for some time now I have been well aware of times when I was just about to complete a project and for some reason there would be an interruption and I would have to wait until the next day or even longer to bring the desired completion about. On close perusal I can always find the perfection in that unexpected delay.

The other day, Harry and I were working together on a project that involved placing pictures on a website. There was one particular picture that simply would not transfer. Harry is totally computer literate and knew of every way to bring solution to this problem. Finally, I looked at the very picture that he was trying to capture and suddenly I remembered that there was a great deal of sensitivity surrounding this particular picture. It involved the recent death of a person involved with the work we were doing.

I simply turned to Harry and said, “We are not supposed to be doing this at this time.” Sure enough, as soon as I shared this with Harry, he too remembered the fact that there had been a hesitancy on the part of our Associate surrounding the object in the photograph.

Today, I took the liberty of sharing happening with our Associate and he too confirmed that it would not be appropriate to include that photo in our work

Don’t tell me that Angels are not computer literate! That was just one more instance of Angelic interference.

Choices that Impede Growth

I am watching as a magnificent being is crushing all her dreams and it breaks my heart. Needless to say I am well aware that this is simply my point of view and it is not a part of her journey to recognize the same things as I do. There just has to be a better way.

No-one came here to deliberately fail – we came here to succeed. Now, I am clear that we all have our lessons to learn and that there are teachers and there are students. But I also feel that at this stage of my life I have earned the honor of being a teacher in some arenas of my life.

When a person is aware of their gifts and yet they are not clear on how to utilize these gifts surely they seek a teacher? Or they think that they know how to utilize their gifts and what they are doing is simply not working – surely then they seek a teacher?

Being taught by someone who has already failed and is still carrying their own failure in their heart can also be deadly. The energy carried by that person is so tainted with the fear of failure it brings about a re-occurrence of the same thing over and over again.

I am watching as the special gifts and the creations of a magnificent being are being re-arranged in the name of “helping” when, in my mind, they are only destroying the original dreams and those things that made the gifts so special in the first place.

When we come from scarcity and deny ourselves the flow of Universal power to come our way, we stand in the way of all the good that is ours.

Our focus needs to be on what the original concept is and what drove that concept in the beginning and never losing sight of the goal brought about by that concept.

When people are clearly, supporting of the gift then they are the ones who need to be focused on and anything that speaks of separation from the concept must be denied.

Just Smile

In this strange economy when things are up and down. There are those who are the habitual complainers who are poised ready to pounce on a reason to complain and then there are the others who are the habitual “look on the bright side” people. Let’s face it – who do you like to hang out with? Do you want to have all the energy sucked out of you? Or would you like to be pro-active and help shift those feelings of doom and gloom by staying in touch with what you know to be true. The truth is we are all gifted beings with all the necessary tools to rise above those conversations of desperation. Nothing is less attractive that a person who has the constant chatter about what they cannot do because they don’t have any money. Think about it! There are so many things that you can do that do not cost you any money and taking time to do just one of those things can be the difference between desperation and joy.

Recently I had one of those days when I felt that the world was coming down around me and when I finally hit the wall I took myself outside and discovered the pansies that I had bought and that were waiting to be planted. For just a few moments I gazed into the faces of those magnificent pansies and beheld their beauty and I just had to smile. “Things just cannot be that bad!” I said to myself. “When I can appreciate this amazing flower that grew from a tiny seed and turned into this intricate, delicate living, thing of beauty, it is all good!” There is a power much greater than us creating nothing but good all around us and yet we still are not appreciating that power. Shame on us!

So the next time I feel inclined to get swept up in that consortium of negativity I’ll picture that pansy and I will just smile.

This is a Test, This is Only a Test?

Just see how involved we (humans) get in the every day chatter and how it seems to manifest in our lives. Before anyone knew of the Bernie Madoffs of this world and the devastating situations that have occurred as a result of those kind of horrific behaviors, we were just going along in our lives doing what we always do and being successful (or not). Now we all have an excuse!! I am here to tell you that nothing has changed we are still the same powerful people we always were. We have only given our power away in getting caught up in the rhetoric.
Recently I met a young man who had found himself in an extremely fearful place, feeling that he is a victim of the big bad world out there. Now I don’t mean to make light of his genuine feeling of distress. I choose to point out however, that the same things that have made him successful in the past he still has at his fingertips. He is an amazing creator of fine art. That is his special gift and no matter what he says or does nobody can take that away from him. His focus, however, has merely been diverted by the goings on in the world. And I say “This is a test – this is only a test!”
Are we all going to bow down to the ‘nay Sayers’ who would have us believe that we can no longer make a living by the same means that we have been used to? Forget about it! You and I all deserve to make an honest living the way we are passionate about, doing those things that bring us joy! The test is only in our ability to rise above the negative conversations that plague our airwaves. We may have to raise our intentions up a notch or two and truly seek those who are in line with our intention; i.e. we head for those people who are choosing not to get caught up in the rhetoric and bring them the joy that they have been seeking through our gifts. Believe me they are still out there.
So, if you are one of those who have given into the negative rhetoric, check it out, look and see if you still have the same dreams and if your dreams have changed, then you owe it to yourself to re-ignite your spirit and chase away those blues and get on with your life. Just step it up and know “This is a test! this is only a test!
Keep your spirit alive and well, nurture it with the good news that you are still the same powerful being you always were and that your intention is to be successful in everything you pursue.

When the Reason Became the Excuse

I happened to catch Dr. Wayne Dyer’s latest promotion on PBS. He has written a book called “Excuses Be Gone”. Harry and I are reading this book now and so far it is holding our attention and we are truly enjoying it. Needless to say it gets me thinking and the question I ask myself is this.”When did the reason become the excuse?”
Actually, as I ask this question I begin to feel freedom. It amazes me how books come into my life at the perfect time – always!
I am now embarrassed to say that I have not been walking my talk. The choices I have made over these past year or so have gone against so many of those things I truly believe in. This is where the question comes in. “When did the reason become the excuse?”
The great news is that I found the reason for my many years of excuses, the reason I had never felt deserving of being successful, the reason I have always put others needs ahead of my own, the reason I have been so determined to please everyone and have everyone in my world get along.
For some, unknown to me, reason I have had a memory project itself into my consciousness that had been buried since I was 5 or 6 years old. It was a memory that involved a dear friend of my father who had seen fit to touch me inappropriately in a very rough way and the consequences of a situation that was never to be spoken of and the friend who’s name was never mentioned again. All of this had wreaked havoc in the tiny mind of 5 or 6 year old child (me). This had been the only time in my life I had ever seen my father extremely, angry also I clearly recognized the fact that he never saw his friend again. Could this have been my fault?
All of the choices I made beyond this point in my life were made as a direct result of this devastating occurrence. Though absolutely none of it remained a conscious memory until this recent ‘unveiling’. It has taken a lot of in depth counseling to help me deal with the enormity of this situation. There has been a great deal of mourning on my part for those decisions I had made that took me down some extremely treacherous pathways. Had I felt differently about who I was, so many of these occurrences would never have happened.
I am now, at this time, in a space of relief that I may begin my forward journey with a knowledge that I am totally worthy of all the good that is here for me now. I can also be proud that one of the direct results of this has been my desire to have peace all around me. I need never apologize for this desire.
The truth is that it was way back then that the reason became the excuse – though I was not consciously aware of that at the time. Now I know and now I am free!
What an amazing feeling! How happy I am that Harry had come into my life in time to help me through this most difficult experience.

The Missing Link

There comes a time in everyone’s life where some accounting is necessary. Taking stock is important to the flow of life. I personally did some serious stock taking about 10 years ago and at that time I really felt that there could be no more. How wrong that thought was. I began to write a book at that time, called Hindsight. This book is the story of a young girl (me) who left Scotland at the age of 18 years old to come to live in America. With the greatest hopes that life would be different, these hopes would come to fruition though not exactly the way I had envisioned them. Facing a whole new world with some extremely, unsettling circumstances. The true story deals with the decision making process ongoing and the hindsight account of those processes. Over these past 10 years, I have repeatedly picked up my writings and somehow felt that there was something missing.
Very recently I have discovered exactly what these missing parts are. I am now working on completing this book. There is no doubt in my mind now that, although there is a lot of work to be done, I can now evoke the power that the book was missing.
So often we make decisions in our life based on others experience. This can be and has been, in my case, the wrong thing to do. It has now begun to jeopardize my health. This is how it has all come to light.
As so often happens when I reach a grand opening in my life, I find myself writing a poem. This is what I choose to share with you now as a promise of completing the book “Hindsight”.

Protecting You

Why should I protect you – enlighten me on why
Tell me why I should not say those things that make me cry
The pain that I have buried for all these many years
Is beginning to reveal its self while flowing through my tears
There’s so many of you out there that I recall quite well
You may well have forgotten – but I would gladly tell
About the ways that you abused me – took advantage of my youth
I wonder what your peers would say if they only knew the truth
Because I showed a loving heart – afraid to bring you shame
I scurried to my corner – and silently took blame
I told myself it was my fault – each time those things occurred
But now my vision it is clear – no longer is it blurred
The opportunity I gave you to have your way with me
Came simply because I was scared of what might come to be
For more than fifty years I’ve held this sickness deep inside
But now my health is jeopardized – I must no longer hide
I feel the need to scream your name so that everyone can hear
But I recognize that feeling comes from all that buried fear
This fear has been what’s held me in this questioning of worth
Who knows? It might also be why I’ve never given birth
There’s no need for me to tell you – you know just who you are
You know exactly what you did – though the memory maybe far
It’s time that I set myself free – let go, forgive and move on
I’ll celebrate my future – knowing that this pain is gone
I’m ready to release you so that I can now be whole
Completing what I’m here to do with new power in my soul

INSPIRATION IS THE KEY

While fumbling along in life, trying to live the best life; trying to do what’s best; trying to be accepted; trying to fit in; and trying to make ends meet, so often we experience huge frustration and a feeling that “there must be more to life than this!”
How often do we hear the phrase “These are trying times!”? With all of the aforementioned “trying” that is exactly what we are creating – “TRYING TIMES”!
Having heard the phrase, “Let go – let God!” repeatedly throughout my life, I am more and more inclined to comprehend just how powerful this ‘way of being’ can magnificently, enhance my life.
As a writer, I know how absolutely hopeless it is when I “try” to write. It is quickly apparent that I am “trying” as my writing becomes so stilted and clearly does not flow with ease. When I am inspired, however, there is no cease to the ebb and flow of the words on the page.
The word inspiration comes from being in Spirit. Therefore it is obvious to me that when someone refers to “being in Spirit” they are not always aware that it does not require dying to achieve this state. It simply means that the veil (between here and the life beyond) has dropped or lowered long enough for us to feel that connection to our Higher self. In that connection we gain a new understanding and guidance that is amazingly powerful. The way we know that we have made that connection is the incredible feeling that accompanies the new understanding. It is a feeling of freedom and peace and exhilaration that is simply the best.
So why would we ever want to doubt the possibility of there being more to life? There is and it is always there – all we need to do is trust, let go and let God and ask for all we need – then LISTEN!

THE TRUTH HAS SET ME FREE

For all my life I’ve felt so different – so separate from all those with whom I share this world and that feeling of being “so different” has often been painful for me. It has caused me to experience extreme loneliness even in the midst of many wonderful friends.

My need for a peaceful existence has been with me in the form of a deep passion from early childhood. My desire to see people “get along” has, at times, been the actual separator between me and those I’ve wished to see “get along”. Instead of loving and being together I have created divisions that have extended themselves between me and all those I chose to bring together. How Ironic!

Finding what I believe to be the precipitant of this long-term longing for peace, (A situation I’ll share at a later date) has opened up a channel of freedom for me that has brought with it a time of true peace – the likes of which I have never felt before.
Although, in this world of opposites, the freedom and peace I feel is matched, if only temporarily, with feeling of deep sadness and regret for all those times that would have been so different had I gained this understanding long ago. I recognize, however, that the journey I have traveled in this life has brought with it many tumultuous situations that have in turn shown amazing miracles.

And now it is my heartfelt knowledge and inner knowing that brings me to this place of forgiveness and letting go which, in turn, returns me to that feeling of freedom and peacefulness. I am abundantly clear that we are all one in this world and it is my place to simply share my way of being and deep understanding in the hopes that others, who desire peace and freedom, will learn from my journey and choose to incorporate those positive steps into their own pathway to perfection. This, after all, is my life purpose and I am so blessed to have the benefit of this understanding so that I can affect the shift I choose to create.

From the Throne of Judgment

From my special throne I see what’s getting in the way of the positive flow that needs to occur for us to come into agreement on all of the issues surrounding Health Care Reform. What’s getting in the way? NOBODY’S LISTENING! Everyone is talking at the same time. All the words are being swallowed so that no-one truly hears the heartfelt proposals that are being made.
Isn’t it obvious that nobody would ever propose a Health Care Reform that would jeopardize the ‘well being’ of the American citizens? Also, when I say ‘well being’, I mean ‘well being’ stemming from a powerful, preventative care pursuit.
It is so clear to me that we need to be more cognizant of all those who are taking their Health Care, from a preventative standpoint, seriously. All those people need to be recognized by the Insurance Companies of this country for the contribution they are making by their responsible actions toward their individual Health Care.
Let us also listen carefully to the voice of the Pharmaceutical Companies. How much power are they using to hold those voting members of our Congress in coming to comprehensive decision making? This is a very important matter and I am one who is in judgment of the Government and just how much power they are yielding to all those Pharmaceutical Companies.
It is now time, however, for me to leave my throne of judgment and instead let my voice be heard. I choose to be in the space of preventative care and not feather the nest of the Pharmaceutical Companies. I suggest that our Government spends some of their time and money on investigating who is running the FDA.
Instead of everyone talking at once we need to listen carefully to ALL that is being said and understand how many of these decisions or choices are being made from a place of fear. The American people deserve honest and open Health Care reform.

GOLDEN THREADS OF DNA

What if our DNA meant a whole lot more than a mere imprint of identification? What if each singular strand of DNA actually represented a powerful component of our ‘ways of being’? What if, when each strand were operating at it’s pique, we homo sapiens would be invincible? Sounds impossible? Well – just for this next few minutes I’d like to present you with a concept that I believe is not only possible – it is probable.
As more and more people begin their search for understanding their life purpose as it relates to being here on earth, along with that need to know how they can effect change and shift toward peace on earth. Only those who are open to all the possibilities will find the answers to all the questions that are in their heart. Just when you think you know the true meaning of life yet one more possibility is placed before you. It is all about feeling and what feels right to you.
We are all equipped with the perfect tools in our souls that are created to connect us with the absolute truth. Often, however, we are simply too impatient and we allow that impatience to inhibit our pathway to understanding . We want to know now! Does this sound familiar?
It has taken me this last 33 years to come to this ‘new to me’ understanding. Have I been patient? Heck no! And now I realize just how much that impatience has hampered my search.
I choose not to regret one moment of this, somewhat treacherous path. Although there may have been times when giving up might have seemed like a really great idea – and just falling into the blind pattern of life that so many others I knew were following. I am so grateful for all that I have learned especially now that I have discovered – the golden threads of DNA.

A DAY TO DO NOTHING

Stolen moments in the sun: Just what the Doctor ordered. The forecast is good for today. So let us take advantage of this perfect time. Though the alarm clock rudely awakens me from a deep sleep that had taken so long to enfold me, I still feel the urgent need for the call of the tide. We gently put together all the pertinent makings of a relaxing day at the beach – slipping into swimsuits and availing ourselves of fresh fruit and wrap makings and an abundance of water to keep us well hydrated as we soak in the sun’s rays.
In only 90 minutes we neatly pull into the perfect parking place and carry our treasures (food, books, lotions and towels) to the entrance to the beach. Thought it was quite early, it was clearly evident that thousands of others had awakened with the exact same intentions. The clue to this information lay in the sea of brilliantly colored umbrellas waving in the sand before us.
I close my eyes for just a moment and invite all the sounds around me to permeate my being. The roar of the ocean – the laughter of the gulls – the squeals of delights of the children – the gentle tap-tap as the “man of the house” provides shade for his family – the anxious call from the mother as she gathers her flock around her. Thank you God for the ears to hear. My ears paint a splendid scene. The “scene” is called “love”. One could also call this scene “life” but without “love” this scene is nothing.
Papa provides our shade with the assistance of a brand new umbrella. We gently lower our blankets onto the glistening, toasty, sand, gathering our treasures all around us as we then lower our bodies onto the sun drenched blankets. Before moving into the shade of the shiny new umbrella, we allow our bodies just a few minutes of God’s heavenly warmth to infiltrate our beings. Our beings thank God for this, all too often forgotten, nurturing which has been cast aside by fear, placed on us by humanistic meanderings. We then apply a fine layer of protective lotion.
As soon as the warmth becomes a little too intense we move into the shade and avail ourselves of the delicious fresh fruit that is all too ready to nourish our perfect bodies. We read – we sleep – we gaze into the beauty that surrounds us – ever grateful for our day to do nothing.

Trust Versus Worry

Trust Versus Worry

(After a long dry spell in the writing corner here is what eventually inspired me to put pen to paper.)
So, here I am, unemployed, in debt up to my ears, with the possibility of losing my home and a husband who is also out of work, living on my Social Security and You say, “Trust!” ?

Have I been here before? Yes! But then there wasn’t even any Social Security to rely on. Isn’t it amazing that, here I am, in America, the most progressive country in the world and I should find myself in this dilemma?

Even ‘would be’ employers, who are advertising for help, are not inclined to return my calls. Now what is up with this picture? And still You say, “Trust!” ?

I’ll tell You, I feel that it must be the best thing to do because worry has done absolutely nothing – do You hear me?

How does this work? Do I just go along with the knowledge that all that is apparent in my life just IS and that as long as I have a clear understanding on what it is that I want and choose to have happen, I simply let go and trust?

What happens to that knot in my stomach? What happens to those sleepless nights? What happens when those creditors keep calling? Do I still trust?

Let me try this and see what happens………………………………………………………………………………………………

You know what? I am beginning to feel better! I am sleeping well! I am laughing a whole lot more and having fun! Could this be against the law? What a concept – I am actually feeling more energetic! I look years younger! I actually feel like I can face another day! I am excited about the prospects for my future! I know that I will handle all my obligations! I know that I will have a brand new career! I know that I will have the best place to live in all the world! Woo! Hoo! Who knew?

Trust versus worry? I’ll take trust every time.

Capturing Precious Moments

I’ve come to the time of my life when I truly get the importance of being in the moment. So often I allow precious moments to slide by, by being willing to have my attention diverted to times gone by or to thoughts of the future. Now I am more and more conscious of being in this moment.
Right at this moment (the moment of writing this piece) I am sitting with friends and enjoying listening to the casual conversation, knowing that this time will never be repeated, being aware of the fragility of time and soaking in the wonderful ambiance, feeling the joy and love well up inside of me. What an amazing gift!
There are times when it is necessary to involve ourselves in the conversation and even more powerful times when, in listening, we receive incredible blessings. I often wonder how much I may have missed by programming myself to automatically respond and put my two cents in and to have my words be heard. Does it really matter? My answer to this is – no! Nothing truly matters except the energy we may spend, involving ourselves, in meaningless chatter.
I am reminding myself of the importance of space. Silence can bring some of the greatest gifts that we can ever experience; because it is in the silence that we invite Spirit or our Higher self to evoke a feeling or a thought that may forever change our lives.
Capture precious moments and always know the power in their splendor. Breathe and soak in the silence. This is your moment – treasure it forever.

How Issues Manifest

Now I am getting ready to go out on a limb – ready to be shot down for speaking my truth. There is nothing new about what I am getting ready to say. It is just that now it has hit, not only close, but hit home. There is no doubt in my mind that for every malady that has shown up in my body or in my psyche there is some, perhaps deep, issue at the core that has brought this about. I am willing to own this truth and can give so many examples, from throughout my life where this has been the truth. However, there are two major issues that have recently come to light, that have provided Harry and I with the reason to speak out and say what is on our minds.
I found myself watching “The Farrah Fawcett Story the other night and all the time I was watching it I kept asking myself, “Why are you watching this? What is your purpose?” Today it came clear to me the reason for my watching this. I am extremely grateful to Farrah for taking this huge risk in sharing her story and for the purpose she had in doing so. She is a courageous lady and I applaud her forthright being. For all of those connected to Farrah at this time of her life I wish you comfort and strength as you go through this experience – also the knowledge of the gifts that this awesome experience may bring you.
What became clear to me when I pondered the Farrah Fawcett Story was that the story touched on so many treatments that she was able to avail herself of, but I was not aware of any discussion of life issues that were being examined.
Harry and I have been very involved with his life recently and this involvement has included facing some extremely painful issues that have been a part of his life for many years. Harry had been stuffing his feelings for as long as he could remember, so much so, that he was blocked and unable to cry. The anger that he was holding inside about ways he had been treated by his father was literally stopping him from experiencing his emotions regarding his own life. As it is for so many people in his position, he felt it was inappropriate to be angry with his deceased parent. The choices Harry has made in his life regarding stuffing his true emotions about so many things have carried over to every facet of his life. He chose to appease everyone in his life to avoid creating conflict or tumult. All of these choices have resulted in the discovery of a significant body malady that, we believe, directly reflects the emotional trials.
Believe it or not these revelations have come as great blessings. On the physical side, Harry had a kidney stone cause him enough discomfort that he went to the E.R… It was during this visit that it was discovered that he had a shadow on his other kidney. This has proven to be cancerous. It has also resulted in his having his kidney removed. The great news is that the cancer has been removed. Prior to the removal of his kidney, Harry has completed some powerful, emotional, clearing work in regards to his past. He has come to peace with all those situations from his past that has caused him so much pain throughout his life.
There are no accidents that this has all manifested at this time. We are clear on that. Now, Harry has a clean slate – a whole new beginning, if you will, to his life. We do not take this lightly. This, to us, is a wonderful gift. It is a miracle. It never ceases to amaze me just how many parallels that Harry and I have had throughout our lives and now we have been brought together to share our stories so that others may learn from them.
The direct correlation between the cancer and the stuffed emotions is, to us, a no brainer. Cancer has to have a reason for showing up and we choose to believe that in this case, as soon as Harry began to take responsibility for his choices and began to let go of the pain associated with these life choices, he was shown the ‘holding place’ for all these stuffed emotions.

Cause and Effect

Why do people break the law? What encourages someone to abuse drugs or alcohol? Why do people steal? Why do people kill one another? Needless-to-say there are so many responses to these questions but there is really only a one-word answer to all of them and that is fear! Fear! Yes! FEAR!
Study the questions and tell me that fear applies in every case. Isn’t it time that we addressed this issue?
Ask a group of children what they fear most and they can give you many different answers. Ask the same group of children to list all the things that they are really sure of and they may be a little more hesitant to respond. What are the messages we are giving to the children? For us baby-boomers they are already becoming the leaders of our world! This is urgent!
Having just read an article about over-crowding in California prisons, I feel inspired to look at the root of society’s problem. When we start to address our child’s fear as it comes up we can begin to reap a more powerful, peaceful and productive society.
We need to listen to our children – yes! they do know a whole lot more than we give them credit for. We must make time to be hearing the needs of our children and know that it is imperative if we are ever to experience peace in our world.
Fear is the cause of every war, every theft, every drug over-dose, every hunger issue, every health or wealth problem and every murder that takes place in this world. What we are experiencing at this moment in this world, this chaos that we are witnessing, is the result of —yes!—-you have guessed it—fear!
Fear is a very important, intuitive response – a warning signal that danger is imminent. It is a feeling of anxiety and agitation caused by the nearness of danger, evil or pain. However, the great news is we, as humans, have been given this ‘feeling’ to pay attention to and then we are also given choices that we can make to rectify the situation. The trouble is that we are often so busy focusing on the fear we fail to see to appropriate ways we can choose from to rectify the situation. The key is to pay attention and listen, eagerly, for the choices we are given. The next time you find yourself responding in a ‘fearful’ way to a situation, stop for just a moment and listen to the choices and choose just one and you will experience a whole, new, positive result!
We are all being the contributors to this fear based society and it is time to put a stop to it right now and examine our choices. We are the cause and the effect of all that is going on in our world and we need to begin to take responsibility for all of it – beginning with our beloved, children.
Instead of responding to life in a fearful way let us choose our path and begin to trust in right out workings and remember, whatever we fear most will come about!

The Butterfly Turned

On a shopping spree, sometime ago with a dear friend of mine, I just could not resist one of those little stands in the center aisle that carried lots of sparkling costume jewelry. After taking in a bountiful bevy of beautiful jewels my eyes lit on a glistening butterfly. Oh! How it sparkled and shone. I just couldn’t take my eyes off of it. O.K., so I asked the sales person if I could try it on. Needless to say it fit me perfectly. There was nothing left for me to do but buy it. Since that day the little butterfly has seldom left my finger. It has brought me so much joy. Not bad for a ring that may have cost me, at the most, $25.00. I’ll get back to the ring thing!
That had to have happened about 10 or more years ago. So many twists and turns have occurred in my life since then. I went through an unfortunate breakup of a marriage, lost my home, sold all my belongings (everything I owned), had to put my doggies up for adoption, became a gypsy, travelled half-way around the world and then across America, sang in a Brazilian Steak House in Las Vegas, worked at the Mandalay Bay Hotel , began writing songs for healing, wrote a book, travelled back across America, began recording my music, wrote another book, married the man of my dreams in the home I was born in, in Scotland and through it all somehow managed to remain sane. At least I think I did.
This past year has brought some new experiences for me and through them I have found myself beginning to take stock of what is truly important in my life. Of course this is not the first time I’ve done that but this time it seems to be much more concentrated. Part of the stock taking involved some of my jewelry. How long did I want to hold onto that old stuff I had not worn in ages and frankly had no intention of wearing? There were some heavy gold rings that no longer held my attention and with the need to get one of my books published I thought that this would be a great way to help fund that.
Off I toddled with the bundle of gold, to the jeweler, to see just how much this little cache might bring. Well, who knows, what I had in mind in the way of amount, but it certainly was not anywhere close to the amount that I needed. So while the jeweler was busily cleaning some of my other jewelry, I began to study my little, old, butterfly ring. I thought about all the diamonds that were in the other jewelry that I was selling and bingo the decision was a no brainer!
Now, this little butterfly ring is sparkling away on my finger only now it is made of white gold and real diamonds and all I did was part with the jewels that no longer held my attention. It cost me nothing but desire and frankly had been a dream of mine for all the years that I owned the ring. Holding onto the dream, once again, paid off! The butterfly turned – finally!
It pays to never let go of the dream!

Surrounded by Angels

The first part of any healing process involves the subject being open to being healed. There is no accident that the name of this website is “Healing Heart and Spirit”. This is truly what all my work is about. Either the words I write or the interactions I have with my clients are all about healing.
Whenever we feel there is a need to heal the body or the mind – the mind must take priority. Harry and I are working on all of this at this time. Every time we turn around we are giving thanks to all of the magnificent Angels who are presenting themselves to us.
Leasing a new automobile has also been a necessary part of our journey recently and even during this whole process Angels have surrounded us. Let’s face it; the car industry has not usually carried a wonderful reputation when it comes to salespeople. Well, Harry and I can now dispute this old myth. We have had the most powerful experience with the people at Beltway Toyota in Marlow Heights, a suburb of our Nations’ Capital. Everyone we had reason to be involved with there, from the Service Bay to the G.M. treated Harry and I like King and Queen.
With all that we are dealing with in our lives at this time, including health considerations, career and securing safe transportation, we have to be so grateful for recognizing the Angels on our path. We are able to count our blessings every day when we bring to mind their (the Angels) powerful presence.
Angels are all those people that make your life flow and create the right out-workings in your life. Just remember it is your open and loving energy that attracts these Angels. Be open, loving and grateful for each and every ‘opportunity’ that enters into your life. This way of being, is guaranteed to bring about the results that you seek. If you don’t believe me – ask you Angels!

When the Miracle Comes

In days that are plagued with uncertainty, it is so natural for us to feel that we need a miracle to clear the way for us. It is my belief that miracles do abound. They are all around us. All we need to do is to accept what is, switch our focus and decide what we truly desire. Then it is a matter of visualizing the outcome of that desire and then trusting and believing in creating a miracle. Being aware, of the people entering our lives now, and of the messages that they bring, is crucial. They are all a part of the miracle we are creating. We will then be guided carefully in the steps we take toward this creation.
We must begin to recognize the powers that we own. They are a part of our DNA. So often we think of DNA as being measured by a drop of blood or a strand of hair – but there are so many more definitive layers to our individual DNA.
Being ‘open to the possibility’ that we all have the ability to choose every single outcome in our life, will be the most important ingredient needed to achieve what can be described as a miracle.
This requires 4 absolutely, necessary steps.
1) You must accept everything, as it is this moment.
2) You must let go of any fear.
3) You must believe and trust in the possibility of a miracle.
4) You must be willing to step into your own power.
The road, to attaining a miracle in your life, will only be possible with these 4 ingredients. Then you will experience a phenomenal miracle.
Resistance to these beliefs is the only thing between you and that miracle.
After the miracle occurs there are 4 more rules to follow:
1) Share your miracle – shout it from the rooftop.
2) Be willing to accept the rejection, that may come your way, for the beliefs you hold in creating miracles
3) Never re-visit the fear that you let go.
4) Always hold onto the trust and beliefs that helped to bring the miracle about.

Visualize It

Nothing was ever created in this world without a vision. Nothing! With this knowledge it is a wonder why we ever find ourselves wanting anything. There is actually a part of the world where the word ‘want’ is not a part of their vocabulary. There they have no word for want. You see they have simple needs and there never is any need for them to want – they just think about whatever it is they choose to have and then set out to get it.
It is a good idea to be as creative in your visualization as possible. Approximately 18 years ago I began a vision of living in a home on the water. I also forecast it for 10 years hence. Over the next 10 years I never lost sight of that vision. However, at the 9 year mark, due to a divorce, I lost my home. The vision, for me, began to grow a little dim and it was hard for me to get the picture brightened up. No matter how distant and dull that vision appeared, I never let go of the dream.
After a year or more, living as a gypsy, wandering all over this beautiful country of ours, I decided to bring myself back to my favorite spot here in Annapolis. Not having any means of support, no dollars tucked away, I was taking a huge risk. I had no doubt that this was the right step and that is all that I knew. It was with this feeling of rightness that my old vision of the home on the water appeared. Try as I might that vision just would not fade. It was amazingly bright and beautiful. I kept laughing at it – but the more I laughed – the more magnificent it became.
It was around this time that I received a call, while still preparing to leave Las Vegas, from my dear friend, Scott. “Mahri, I know you are thinking about coming back to the East Coast.” Now I was fully, expecting words like, “You need to give this whole idea a bit more thought – secure a job – make sure you have enough money before you leave there.”….but no! I was wrong. “I have found you an incredible place to stay until you get your life back together.” He then went ahead to describe my vision. (Oh! Be careful what you ask for?)
It was exactly 10 years to the day of beginning my visualization. The one thing that I had not placed in my vision was that it may belong to someone else. My vision only said that I would be living on the water in 10 years. I have moved 3 times since my dream came true and every home has been, and is now, on the water. Each home has been absolutely perfect. Believing in the power of visualization has actually saved my life. Now that is another story.

Upgrading my Megabytes

In this world of computers and phenomenal technology I am beginning to feel that we are losing sight of our personal power. Is has been clear to me for quite a long time now that we, as human being are only operating at about 10% of our potential. It is my desire to change this and as I tap into my personal beliefs, around this power, I find so many areas that I have sold short. The point I am making is that I am choosing to take control of the outcomes in my life. And before you say, “Well, some of these outcomes are out of your domain……” I will tell you, that although the desired outcome may be a little different from what actually occurs, the results are always perfect.
The first thing it is necessary to do in this regard is to take responsibility for my life and all of the outcomes so far. As soon as I get into the rhythm and feel of how this all works it begins to become second nature. It is amazing how quickly we give our power away by attributing responsibility to someone else. It is all about choice. No matter how we feel, there is always another choice in any decision that we make. We are all too often reticent when it comes to recognizing the choices. It is simpler to pass on that obligation to another being thus relinquishing our personal power.
Living in the moment can be of great assistance when it comes to determining our forward steps. Paying attention, to the intuitive competencies we have been so blessed to own, is the ultimate key. There is a natural knowing that we so often ignore, that brings us all the answers to our unasked questions. How often have you said, “Oh? I knew that”… Well that is the little voice that you may have been ignoring most of your life. This is why I say that I am “Upgrading my Megabytes”.
So, how do I upgrade those megabytes? The first thing is to become more aware of my breathing. Being aware of how shallow or deep our breathing is can be the difference between stress and peace. Only when the breathing is peaceful can we be more in tune with what is going on in our lives. It is so important to be in touch with our feelings at any given time. This way we can determine more precisely what the best next step is to take. If only we could have learned all this when we were really young then we might have made some different choices. The truth is that when we were born we responded in this way – we simply moved from one feeling to another responding then moving on to the next response. You might ask, “What happened?” Well here is what happened. Your parents or caretakers told you how you should respond and ever since that time you have felt wrong to respond in any of the old ways. In other words you gave away your power. Now you can make some different choices and in so doing you can upgrade your megabytes.

Selfishness

Selfishness has been given a bad rap. Many of us think that when we always do things to please ourselves, we create something negative for another person or other persons. Well I am here to tell you I disagree. You see, it is simple – when I am happy and satisfied and balanced in my life, chances are all the people in my life feel the benefit of all these components. Now I am not talking about creating the great experiences in my life at the expense of another. No, I am merely recognizing choices made that are in integrity for me in creating a balanced life.
Many years ago when my mother was raising my brother and me, she had selfishness cornered. She was the best mother and we truly enjoyed having her as our mother. What I am saying is she made sure that she took great care of herself and was totally in integrity when it came to creating balance in her role as mother and wife and part-time assistant to my father.
At 2pm every day, mother would caution my brother and me to play quietly, to be good and not disturb her. She forecast her return, to our side, within 2 hours and expected us to follow her demands. There was never any doubt in our minds, that what our mother said she would do, we could utterly rely on.
During mothers’ quiet time she would either sleep, write letters, read or all of the above. Her purpose was all about maintaining her balance. Keeping time for her so that she would never feel regretful or even resentful about the time spent with my brother and me. This was the most valuable lesson that my mother has taught to me.
Whenever, I hear parents lamenting, that they, “……..don’t have enough time!” I say, “Who is stopping you?” Needless to say they have nothing to say except, “Me!” This is the time for the decision to be selfish to be made. You not only owe it to yourself, you owe it to those people in your world. They need to experience the benefits of your selfishness. This is a win win for everyone.

A Living Conduit

There are times I look back on my life and review some of the relationships and I see some remarkable similarities. I have no doubt that my life purpose is about making a difference for all the people I come in touch with. People have presented themselves to me in many different scenarios and we have almost, immediately become unbelievably close. It has felt so right that there was a significant, palpable rhythm to our relationship. When I use the word relationship I mean connected by circumstance and not necessarily a primary relationship. I believe that as soon as we begin a communication with another person we are in relationship with that person. This could be fleeting, as in the grocery store checker, or something much more substantial as in relative. However, for some reason I must have felt that the only way I could affect the change or make a difference, I needed to marry the person. (Right at this moment I have my tongue in my cheek)

So, about this marrying these characters – perhaps that was carrying it too far! Do you think? I want to be really clear that I am having fun with this whole concept. But I do also want to point out that in regard to the 3 other marriages I have absolutely zero regrets for the time I spent on them – none! The lessons I learned in the course of these liaisons have been invaluable to me. Frankly if any one of my former mates would pop into my life right at this moment I would give them a big hug and say thank you for all you did for me (regardless of the apparent negative outcome).

I have entitled this “A Living Conduit” and the reason for this is that each man brought with him his unique baggage. The bags showed up on each honeymoon and not a moment before. They were neatly packed with the darkest ‘treasures’ folded neatly into the corners. Just when I thought that everything was peachy out came one of the ‘treasures’ and I would find myself in the role of conduit. I mean – I was being used as a device for them to check their out their little dark secret. Just how much could I stand? Each one quite different but the conduit concept was identical!

There is no need to elaborate on the different scenarios. Suffice it to say the experiences have given me a whole lot of fodder for my book “Hindsight” and this is my next task to be completed. Also, in a coaching format my past ‘lives’ (marriages) all fold neatly into the corners of my coaching package, ready to reveal themselves whenever I need them. There is nothing much left for me to experience.

Now, you may be wondering where Harry fits in all of this. Well, let me assure you I am feeling confident as of this moment that the baggage has all been emptied out and all the corners have been scrutinized. This part of the journey is being done together. This is teamwork on to forever.

Seeking the Gift

Sometimes I feel a great need to listen to my own Podcasts, knowing that in there I will find my own words of wisdom to get me back on the right trail. Needless to say, those are the times when I am feeling torn apart, unable to cope or overwhelmed by what is showing up in my life. Today is one of those days.

Yesterday was a very difficult day for both Harry and me. The Doctor told Harry, “We assume cancer unless proven otherwise! We must remove one of your kidneys. We cannot risk the possibility for the cancer to spread as it could kill you!” The Doctor also let us know how frustrated he was that he was having to stay late, blocking out extra time in his day, to give us this news. Now that is a whole other subject. Suffice it to say – we have moved on since that!

What is the good news? Or – where is the gift? Well there are many gifts and that is what we must focus on now.
1) All the people surrounding us, helping us to get the care we need, are the most loving, caring, compassionate people we have ever met.
2) I know the Doctor who will be assisting in the operation. I have heard nothing but great things about him and have known his wife and children for many years.
3) Harry will be able to be at the hospital near our home.
4) Everything is already moving forward as planned.
5) We have the most loving family and friends that anyone could possibly wish for at a time like this.
6) After the operation is complete, Harry will be healthy and fit and able to resume a full and successful life.
7) Last, but by no means least, we have each other.

There are, most likely, many other positive things that will transpire out of all of this and I will make note of all of them as time unfolds. Meanwhile, everything we do must be pro-active – all in preparation for the wonderful life we have ahead of us.

Today is a glorious day and I thank God that Harry had a kidney stone cause him enough pain that we had to go to the hospital in the first place. Otherwise, we might never have found this situation with his kidney. There are reasons for everything!

All The Chatter

I don’t know about you – but I have got to the place recently, where I prefer not to go out. Well, I mean, have you been listening to all the chatter? So many people are intent on getting caught up in the media rhetoric and they cannot wait to pounce on you and let their view be known to you. They have cornered the market on “what’s wrong”!

My point of view is this. The more we think it is wrong – the more that ‘wrongness’ keeps showing up. How about the fact that this may have been supposed to happen? We could not go along turning a blind eye for too much longer or we might have been totally destroyed. There are many educated people out there who knew that this was all going to come about and no matter how hard they tried to warn us their words fell on deaf ears. So, now that the word it out – let’s recognize it, accept it and do whatever we can individually do about it and move on! Simply rehashing the story every day does nothing to improve the scene. If you are one of those people who need help – ask for it! Be pro-active – talk about what can be done to solve the situation and save all your energy for that.

With this concept in mind I found myself writing this little poem/song.

ALL THE CHATTER

With all the chatter about what’s the matter

Everyone’s looking so glum

They’re so downhearted with thoughts of gloom

Wondering ’bout what’s to come

So let’s turn the chatter around – What’s lost might now be found

When we focus on good – Just like we should

No Problem

If there was ever a phrase, that drives me crazy, it is the one that says, “No problem!”
I am referring to a time when it is used in the service industry. For instance – when you ask the wait person to please bring the fork, that was supposed to be on the table in the first place, and they turn and say, “No problem!” Right at that moment I am so tempted to say, “
It had better be no problem!” or “I could make it a problem!” Needless to say I think that would be the wrong thing to do. I simply say, “Thank you!”
What ever happened to the phrase, “It will be a pleasure – I am glad to be of service to you!” I have a sneaky suspicion that very few people in the service industry truly want to be there – what do you think? Then there are those exceptions when you find that jewel of a wait person and you just wish you could carry them around with you. (Come to think of it – that is what I did when I met Harry. He was waiting on me! I married him!) When you are in their company you automatically feel that nothing is ever a problem.
This topic falls into many other service areas and I believe that whenever a service person uses the phrase, “no problem” – underneath what they are saying is a real connection to the feeling that you really are bothering them.
Perhaps I am reading too much into this worn-out phrase. But really, check it out, next time you are dealing with a service situation, see how many times the service person uses this phrase. Or, better still, how many times do you use it? If you are in the habit of using, “No problem!” as a phrase in your conversation, you might ask your self, “Why?” It may just be a habit you could change and see how a little more integrity is uncovered. This will also release a little extra positive power to deal with those truly negative experiences.

When the Miracle Comes

In days that are plagued with uncertainty, it is so natural for us to feel that we need a miracle to clear the way for us. It is my belief that miracles do abound. They are all around us. All we need to do is to accept what is, switch our focus and decide what we truly desire. Then it is a matter of visualizing the outcome of that desire and then trusting and believing in creating a miracle. Being aware, of the people entering our lives now and of the messages that they bring, is crucial. They are all a part of the miracle we are creating. We will then be guided carefully in the steps we take toward this creation.
We must begin to recognize the powers that we own. They are a part of our DNA. So often we think of DNA as being measured by a drop of blood or a strand of hair – but there are so many more definitive layers to our individual DNA.
Being ‘open to the possibility’ that we all have the ability to choose every single outcome in our life, will be the most important ingredient needed to achieve what can be described as a miracle.
This requires 4 absolutely, necessary steps.
1) You must accept everything, as it is this moment.
2) You must let go of any fear.
3) You must believe and trust in the possibility of a miracle.
4) You must be willing to step into your own power.
The road, to attaining a miracle in your life, will only be possible with these 4 ingredients. Then you will experience a phenomenal miracle.
Resistance to these beliefs is the only thing between you and that miracle.
After the miracle occurs there are 4 more rules to follow:
1) Share your miracle – shout it from the rooftop.
2) Be willing to accept the rejection, that may come your way, for the beliefs you hold in creating miracles
3) Never re-visit the fear that you let go.
4) Always hold onto the trust and beliefs that helped to bring the miracle about.
What are the miracles you choose to create in your life?

MIRACLE IS CHOICE

Fear

Fear is the crippler of our world. Fear is the numbing of our beings and the beginning of every war that was ever fought. Fear is the reason we fail. Fear is the reason we do not feel love. Fear is the reason we are dying long before we need to. Why! When we know this do we continue to fear, fear, yes, fear?

O.K., I think that it is time for us to go to all lengths to eradicate fear (the negative kind) from our lives and start living the way we were designed to! Yes! There is a positive fear and that is simply the fear-like feeling our intuition gives us to warn us of possible danger. When those occur we simply check inside and our intuition will also tell us how to respond. However, fearful thoughts, words and actions are the ‘fear’ ridden tormentors of our lives.

Turn on any television set and listen to the news for only a minute and see if what you are seeing is not fear-based. All of the commentary is attached to the negative ‘what ifs’. All of the commentators feel the need to point out the possible negative outcomes. Unfortunately, the listeners seem to latch onto the possible negative outcomes and the rhetoric permeates society like a batch of intestinal flu!

Wouldn’t it be heart warming to find a team of positive commentators who are intent on discussing the possible positive outcomes? The trouble is that everyone is so fearful of being wrong! Taken a step further – they are afraid of being sued if they say the wrong thing!

So fear rules! I think not! I choose not to let my energy be depleted by fear! You heard it here I choose not to be governed by fear. The next time I feel that my energy is being depleted I’ll ask myself, “What are you afraid of?” and then I’ll take a higher road, using the intuitive knowledge I came here to use! Yes folks this is how it works. If it is to be it is up to me! How can we make a difference in this fear ridden world? We can begin with ourselves! Stop the fear!

Regain Confidence by Using Our Best Asset
One of the reasons for the chaos going on in our world is that humans are losing their confidence. Is there any wonder? When institutions that used to be so revered are now causing us to question or second guess our abilities in the decision making process. It is an oxymoron, anymore, to say, “In whom we trust!” The banks of the world are so often called “Banking and Trust” or “Savings and Trust” and now we are left to wonder – just who is it we can trust?
Trust and confidence go hand in hand in my way of thinking. Now it is important for us to take charge and defer to the best tool that we were ever given. Yes! We all have this tool and it is 100% reliable. What is it? It is intuition!
The only people, who are soaring, these days, in full confidence, are those who trust their intuition.
Confidence is regained quickly when one trusts intuition. We all know better – there is nothing we don’t know if we would only relax and choose to follow our intuition. How often have you said, “I knew better!” or, “I knew that!” or, “I was feeling that was going to happen!” We know! The trouble is we would have to then assume responsibility for our lives and that can be over-whelming to many, who, for so long have relied on others to make decisions for us.
The next time you are faced with making a decision, (should you do this or that) use your imagination to see how you would feel if you did this or you did not do this and how you feel if you do that or did not do that. As soon as you connect to the feelings you will know. That is intuition! Remember, 100% accurate!
Perhaps it is the greatest gift we could receive – to lose our confidence! Yes! I did say gift. It has reminded us about our built in tool – our confidence builder. Intuition, is the tool we were given at birth and we, so very seldom, use it. Shame on us!
We know what we want so let us use this tool, which equals the law of attraction – intuition – and now we can regain our confidence. All we need to do, is to get in touch with our intuition and make our choices based on the feeling brought about by intuition. Oh! What a relief and it is free!

An Odyssey

This is how I might describe this past year! The definition reads: Odyssey: “A long, often exhausting, exhilarating and/or excruciating, transformative journey.” I believe that this is the perfect description of my life this past year!

It totally depends on point of view and can most definitely fall into all of the above formations. The most important thing to me is that I have taken total responsibility for all that I have brought into this picture and feel completely blessed by all the outcomes that I have created.

There have been many, precious “gifts” brought to me this year in the form of “lessons learned” and though there were times when “excruciating” would have been an accurate description of what was evolving at the time, I did keep my eyes focused on the “gift”.

2008 was also the first, January to December, being married to Harry. Our evolution together has been a significant part of this “odyssey” and we would not want it to be any different. Through all of our individual and combined lessons learned this year we have put together a powerful foundation for our marriage going forward.

The three most powerful ingredients in this union are respect, integrity and communication. The respect begins with our respect for ourselves and then for each other and folds neatly into the integrity part followed by healthy communication. I thank God for this understanding and for our commitment.

Career has played a major role in the odyssey too. It has taken me down many paths. Finding the appropriate keys to open the channels that have absolute connection to my life purpose has been the most rewarding experience. It has been clear to me that I needed to truly define my coaching abilities in a way that feels truly connected to my soul.

“The Energy Discipline“, which is my new addition to my coaching practice and which is becoming the main focus, is the “icing on the cake” for me. I love “The Energy Discipline” and look forward to sharing it with you as we go through this year.

2009 promises us many good things and it is my prayer that you too will have only powerfully, good things happening for you in your lives.

Attraction Fraction

As a huge proponent of the law of attraction, I cannot help wondering how it applies where the children are concerned. With so much of the added stimuli of cell phones, text messaging, face-book and the internet in general, it is hard to find a kid who is not attached to one or more of these devices. Needless to say there are many adults too who are setting a trend in their attachments. But my main concern is the children.

How are these ways of connecting backfiring when it comes to their social progress. If you ask any average kid from 10 to 65 (I must include everyone) how much time they spend text-messaging, talking on the phone, emailing and connecting through face-book on any given day you might be amazed at the replies. However, as I said before, my main concern is the children.

I can only derive my feelings about this from personal experience. If I don’t take time to respond to the calls, texts or emails I receive, I have a feeling that I may have let someone down. Usually, this let down only applies to me – but that in itself brings up a red flag when I think of how it may be setting up the children.

With all of the pressures that they (the children) are already experiencing it seems to me to be counter-productive to introduce all these extra ways to set them up for failure. I, of course, understand that they can also, in many instances, experience success this way. There are many, however, who are so involved with their “extension devices” that they are missing the important schooling that they need to be getting and that is my concern.

Before a kid is given any of these devices they need to be guided as to what holds priority. If they show any type of fear in being separated from their ‘device’ that should be a red flag to the parent. The first question might be, “What are your greatest fears about not being able to use your ‘device’? The answers to this question could be very telling.

Whatever we are attracting into our lives we need to take responsibility for. So, if you or your child, don’t feel that you can be successful without one device or another it will surely manifest that way. This is what I refer to when I titled this blog “Attraction Fraction”.

There is only one person we need to be accepted by and that is ourselves. It is great to be liked and popular with other people but the most important lessons we can teach our children is to love and believe in themselves, to be in touch with their intuition and to be in integrity. These four strengths will bring more success for them than any one ‘device’.

Left Alone

“I just want to be left alone!” Is there such a thing? Perhaps it is a strange request? With all the different entities, known and unknown, it might be an impossible thing to do – to be alone? Yet, there are times I have felt so alone, even when another being is in the same room.
The ‘being alone’ I am referring to is more like “marching to the beat of a different drum” ( A phrase I’ve grown to despise.) For most of my life I have felt separate – different – out of rhythm with the other people in my life. This awareness has often caused me to feel alone.
Many years ago, when I was a child, my mother must have recognized this in me and in an attempt to have fun, she would say, “Oh! Everyone is out of step except ‘our’ Mahri!” Unfortunately, this only made me feel worse because I thought I knew what she meant. But life can be deceptive!
As I began to study my life and all of its twists and turns I noticed one common thread. This thread has no doubt been the thread that has often entangled me and kept me out of the mainstream of the traffic flow. It has been the thread that has very nearly choked me and caused me to lose my spirit.
For as long as I can remember I have had this desire for everyone to feel love for one another and be friends and get along and know that we are all One. There is no I and you it is We.
As a small child I would witness other children fighting and I would beg them to be friends. Needless-to-say I was not popular in this and would often recoil inside my shell, totally confused by the others desire to be enemies. I never understood this desire. All I have ever wanted is to love, unconditionally and be loved unconditionally.
Consequently, here I am in the ‘twi-twi-light’ of my life and I look back and see all of the casualties of my resistance. Yes! I have found myself resisting all those who do not have the same come from as I do. In my own, inimitable, way I have made them wrong for their choices. I have judged them and all of that has caused me to resist them. Then I have the nerve to wonder why they do not call, write or have any contact with me. It is my decision to take full accountability and responsibility for this situation. This is the law of attraction at work in a negative way in my life.
With this realization it has brought me to this break in the thread. I will always want to love unconditionally and be loved unconditionally; but I will also accept, after all these years of resistance, that though I do believe that it is We – We all have our journey and I will honor Our journey, no matter what the illusion may be. We must love in spite of feeling alone and know that in one short breath we are gone.

What is the Reason?

Sometimes, when things don’t work out the way that we have planned, we feel discouraged. We wonder what this is all about. What went wrong? We really wanted ‘it’ – we really tried to make it happen – but for some reason, no matter how hard we tried, it just did not come about. Has this ever happened to you?

For the past several years of my life this has been the case. I have tried different avenues, given ‘it’ my best shot and nothing. There may have been a glimmer of possibility show up and I have gotten really excited and then wham! The door shut! That gateway of possibility became impossible for one reason or another.

There has been no end of different things that I have put my whole heart into it only to be turned away at the last moment, often for reasons unknown. Then one more idea begins to form in my mind and I find myself on that train again. I become what I am involved in. I eat sleep and breathe it and tell everyone how thrilled I am about this wonderful, new and exciting challenge that I have taken on. I truly believe in ‘it’ and cannot picture my life without ‘it’. Then suddenly, one day, I wake up and realize that ‘it’ is gone! Well ‘it’ might not have gone, but the enthusiasm has died. I am actually wondering what all the excitement had been about.

Well, there is a reason and I am now, fully aware what this reason is ———! All I can say is, “Watch this space!” I have some work to do. When this work is complete you and everyone else in the world will know the reason.

Got the ‘Blahs’?

Nobody gets through life without ever having the ‘blahs’. Some may call it the blues and sometimes it is just that – but I am calling it the ‘blahs’! Feeling downright ‘poopy’! Feeling SO overwhelmed! Having great difficulty seeing the glass half full! The only pictures you are getting on your screen are ‘ugly’! Oh! Come on! We have all been here!
A day when you just want to pull the covers over your head and sleep the rest of the day away in the hopes that tomorrow all the things you are worrying about have righted themselves, then you do and you cannot sleep! Talk about adding insult to injury?

Recently, I had one of those days – I’ll admit it! The only way anything would go was the wrong way! I felt like the whole world was against me – nobody loved me anymore and what gave me the right to dream anyway! Oh! Boy! I was in a real mess. I started digging a little hole and by the end of the day I had a huge crater! I wasn’t satisfied with that! I seemed to want everyone else to drop into my crater with me! Needless – to – say I did not fare well on sleeping that night and the next day that crater was not only huge – it was deep too! What a rotten pigsty I had made out of my otherwise wonderful life. (Believe me – there was nothing, at all, ‘wonderful’ in my view at that time)

So, what does Mahri do when she reaches bottom or beyond? Right! You guessed it – I write a poem or a song!

Here it is!
WORN OUT

Sometimes I just feel worn out from the struggles in my day
I feel I should say nothing when there’s nothing good to say

I feel like I’ve been beaten by the trials and tribulations
Everything is overwhelming – There are no celebrations

This is the time I go within to find my gentle power
I scrutinize its beauty like an ever-blooming flower

Knowing that this power is somewhere deep inside
I trust I’ll always find it – There’s no-where it can hide

So I just remind myself that if I feel worn out
Just to accept that feeling until I turn it all about

Where is Integrity?

It never ceases to amaze me how often people seem to want to tell me something that I am not supposed to know. When I ask someone to keep something I’m about to tell him or her, to him or herself, I expect them to do just that. Likewise, if someone asks me to keep the information that they are telling me, to myself, I always oblige. Unfortunately, there are many who seem to think that this request is not important. It seems to be more important to them to be the ‘reporter’ than it is to be in integrity.

When someone feels the need to do this anymore, I now ask him or her if they should be telling me this. They generally get a very surprised look on their face and kind of murmur something like, “Well I just thought you should know!” to which I generally respond, “Well, I’m sure that if so and so wanted me to know they would tell me!”

Of course, I didn’t always do this. Quite the contrary – I would often jump right into the chatter. Then, one day, I began some serious work on my personal energy. It did not take long for me to figure out just how much, this kind of talk, robbed me of my vital energy. In fact, it was little discoveries like this that led me to design, “The Energy Discipline”. As you might imagine, since that discovery my energy has picked up a little.

If we could be more cognitive of our conversation and what’s important to share and what’s not, there might be a lot less of hurt feelings and depleted energy.

So, the next time someone tries to rope you in on one of those types of conversations that you know you should not be privy to – take a risk and ask them to stop or change the conversation or, better yet, ask them how they are feeling about telling you this.

Taking Charge of My Life-Decide to Live!

‘Nothing is impossible’ would be the best attitude for me. However, there are plenty of those people out there who would do their ultimate best to prove me wrong on this. Take for instance the Waitperson who, when asked to make an diversion to the menu, immediately declares, “Oh! We can’t do that! There are no substitutions!” to which response I would say, “O.K. I know that you have been told that, but I think that we may be able to take a shot at it. How about if you ask the Manager or the Chef and we will see if we can work this out?” Nine times out of ten, providing this is spoken with a cheerful and pleasant gait, this works and the Waitperson gets to be tipped well and everyone is happy!

So here is another for instance – the telephone company: How often have you received a bill with an error on it? Or, you have needed service on your phone and they tell you one day and then go ahead and set it up for a different day? I believe that service should start the moment contact is made with the phone company. Customer Service is what they call themselves and I would say, “It is a safe bet that if a customer is calling Customer Service, chances are that they need help?” So often, however, the calls made to Customer Service end up with the Customer begging for Service. Perhaps the Customer Service needs to be re-named, Customer Perhaps Service or straight up, Customer Disservice.

All this is to say that if I am not receiving what I feel is appropriate in the way of Service (with a capital S) it is then my responsibility to ask for it and to be willing to look carefully toward myself and scrutinize my behavior in the way as to how it relates to this experience. If I am not being in a place of acceptance and instead being in a place of resistance chances are my experience will not change for the better. Also, I have to take responsibility for my part in any of these encounters. First and foremost is the need to be accepting that this is the way it is until we can come to an even more acceptable situation.

One of the most powerful experiences that I have had in showing another being how to take charge of their own destiny was when I learned that a Doctor had told a friend, of mine, that he only had 2 months to live. That night I was awakened out of a deep sleep with words to a poem that I wrote down. The next day, I shared with this young man these words, which I knew, belonged to him. My prayer was that he would own the words and take charge of his own destiny. That was 8 years ago, he did and is alive today.

Often I am reminded of these words and have since put them to music and they have gone on to help many other people including myself because they have to do with owning and accepting your own power.

What is My Life Purpose?

Sometime ago I set out to “find myself”. “What is my life purpose?” I was asking myself.
It was time to break away from everything familiar and start a new life! There was absolutely no doubt in my mind this was what I was to do. I put a “For Sale” sign out and watched as my whole life’s collection of “stuff” dwindled before my eyes.
This would turn out to be an amazing journey. One thing that stands out in my mind was the fact that the people who actually purchased my “treasures” insisted that, if
I ever returned and missed them (my “treasures”) they would let me have them back – no questions asked! What an incredible thing that they should all say this!
Everything fell right into line. It was supposed to be. First I sold my home then I got rid of all my belongings and furniture. I packed into my car, my clothes, books and music and I took off!
It took five days for me to drive across country on a “search for me and my life purpose”! Well, that is a whole other story. This is not about that!
What is my life purpose? This is a great question! Now I was not referring to being in Laguna Beach but “here on earth”! “What is my life purpose?” So many of us go through the motions of life, get to the end of our lives and ask, “What was that all about?” The fact that the question has come up earlier, in life, makes it so great! Because there is an answer for everyone! We DO know! We have just forgotten! There is a way to remember!
Keep a “passion” journal! Yes! A “PASSION” journal! Now this is not a diary of all your most explicit “sex-capades”. No -that is another journal. (Maybe, only joking!) A “Passion” journal is a journal, that you keep, that documents all the activities, that you involve yourself with, that bring you great passion.
When you find yourself talking to someone about something that you have done and you are so carried away with the excitement, of the whole thing, that time just flies by and you lose all awareness of time. THAT is something that you are PASSIONATE about! Check in to how you are feeling and think of other things that you do in your life that brings you that much joy.
Now, let yourself write about these things. Keep putting them in your journal. Let yourself feel all those feelings every time you read your journal and pretty soon you’ll start to discover, “Why am I here?”
This is precisely what I did on my journey and pretty soon I found myself returning to the place I started the journey and beginning to put into place all the passions of my life in such a way that led to my coaching and all my writing. Life is great. I feel great.
I am in touch with my life purpose and choose to stay in alignment with that purpose. Whenever I am out of alignment with that purpose I feel it. So I make it my duty to myself to be in integrity with my life purpose and in that I feel wonderful, joyful and complete!
Wouldn’t you love to feel like this?
Well, it is possible and I believe that it is meant to be!

Want a Great Relationship? – Start with You!

I have just spent the last, however many, years of my life working on the most incredible relationship! I have been working on my relationship with me!
Before I made this decision, that whole philosophy (putting myself first) felt a bit strange because it did not come naturally for me. I have always been used to doing everything for other people and putting myself last. Oh! I know some of you may be familiar with that scenario?
This all became necessary for many reasons.
1) I knew I did not feel happy!
2) I wanted to feel good!
3) I wanted to feel passionate about my work!
4) I wanted to have a wonderful relationship with a significant other!
5) I wanted to live in a really great home!
6) I wanted to travel whenever I chose to!
7) I wanted to feel totally at peace in my own skin!
I wanted to have fun be a regular part of my life!
9) I wanted to have a whole lot of friends!
10) I wanted to feel extremely healthy!
Armed with that nice long list of things, that I wanted, I discovered that the first thing I needed to do was to erase from my life the things that I did, the places that I went to and the people I spent time with that I truly did not enjoy! Now that was an awesome experience.
That meant that I had to ‘check in’ every time I went somewhere or made plans with someone as to my true ‘feelings’ about doing these things!
Wow! I soon found out, on close inspection, that half the stuff I’d been doing, so automatically, I really didn’t even enjoy! Now this freed up a whole lot of time for me!
Now my next thing was to decide what I did want to do! Yes! What a novel idea, actually doing things that I want to do!
Within a very few days I found myself meeting new friends who enjoyed some of the same things I had been putting off doing because I didn’t have anyone to do them with.
Who knew? There was a whole new world out there that I could truly have fun(with a capital F) with!
So what had I done to make this come around? — I told everyone that I met all the things that I wanted to get involved with and pretty soon people were either inviting me or introducing me to those people who shared the same interests.
As soon as I started to have fun other things in my life started to line up for me! I had a much more positive attitude and those people I had admired now seemed to have time for me!
Isn’t it amazing that by just putting out to the universe what I really wanted in my life I was happier and then others were attracted to me? Could this be the ‘law of attraction’? I think so!
It seemed to me that I could do no wrong – everything in my life was just falling right into place.
I made my list in large lettering and just started checking things off as they were happening one after the other. Whew! I could barely keep up with the pace. I felt like a kid in the candy shop!
With poetry writing as a passion of mine I was feeling prolific in that area! One of the pieces I wrote turned out to be the recipe for the love of my life and now three months into my wonderful new marriage I am the happiest girl in the whole world!!
I have a new love and a new and improved career. I have my music and my writing and my fabulous home. Also I have the promise of traveling to Europe very soon. So that’s what I did for me! What have you done for you recently?

This past year has brought so many new discussions to the table and each one seems to be even more passionate than the one before. Having grown up in Scotland and having my first 18 years of life there, I had no experience with racism and had always been accepting of all people presenting themselves to me, just as I was raised to be, regardless of the color of their skin.
Coming to America in the sixties I quickly witnessed the extreme prejudice that was prevalent in the Washington, D. C. area. It hurt my heart to feel this and each time someone cautioned me to be aware of ‘them’ and ‘watch out’ I couldn’t even respond. Then, two weeks after arriving in the United States, I had an attempted rape by an African American man. After all the warnings I had been given I now felt afraid to tell anyone what had happened. Mainly because I felt that the people, I had come to be a Nanny to, would feel uncomfortable about letting me go out and I did not want the ‘I told you so” speech! (This was a selfish way for me to be) Once again, this was still not, for me, about the color of his skin.
It wasn’t until a few weeks after the incident, I happened to meet a Detective in the Police force, I confided in him my story. The good news was that he was able to have the man arrested and thus prevented him from harming anyone else. This was only one of many incidents that involved extreme prejudice that I personally witnessed. Each incident, made me only stronger in my resolve, which it is morally, wrong to hold prejudice.
So why am I telling you this? It just dawned on me that it would be a great exercise for us all to do, that when we relate a happening or a conversation from our past, that we do it without saying the sex, race, or country of origin or any other descriptive adjective. We simply say “Human Being” or “Person”. Try it – it is not an easy task! However, I feel that if we are to change the automatic thinking of the listener to our conversations from that of immediately creating judgment of the “Subject” or “Person” they might listen with unbiased ears for the first time in their lives. It might take on a whole new set of wings and create openings that might otherwise be off limits given the “rest of the information”.
It saddens me that anyone I know could still, after all these years, be willing to be part of a prejudice conversation. Come on folks, it is 2009, time to be responsible for your thoughts and words. Be kind and remember each time you point one finger there are at least three others pointing back at you!

To Eat or Not to Eat? – That is the Question!

So nutrition has now come into the forefront of our lives. This means that Harry and I have, through circumstances, become abundantly aware of the fact “we are what we eat!”
After a short, eye opening, hospital stay recently, I am becoming more and more convinced that my choices for nourishment have led to my experience of ill health.
Born and raised in Scotland, in a tiny village, 15 miles from the nearest town – I enjoyed all fresh produce, most of which was grown or raised on nearby farms. I was generally extremely healthy up to the age of 18 years old when I came to America. Illness was not a part of my way of life. Illness was a stranger to me.
Although my diet in Scotland did involve (occasional) meat and (regular) potatoes there was much more influence of vegetables – even though they were generally cooked ‘to death’! Exercise was an inherent part of life back then. I walked everywhere and sometimes even ran – Oh! But I digress! Suffice it to say – I did a lot of walking.
Coming to America afforded me the privilege (if I can call it that) of a car at my disposal – no need for me to walk anymore. Fast foods and preservatives became more of the order of the day. I took great advantage of all these ‘luxuries’ and had not one thought of the long-term effect.
Now, 44 years later, I am faced with a daunting list of probabilities if I don’t ‘clean up my act’.
Harry and I are presently reading a book that is already changing our lives. It is called “Healthy at 100″ by John Robbins. (I will review this on Amazon very soon – then you can order it directly from my sight)
Now, to be fair, we began by reading “The Peaceful Warrior” by Dan Millman. This book opened our eyes to some amazing parallels that are taking place in our lives at this time and also began our mind change where certain foods are concerned.
In a society where so much of our socializing revolves around food, it can be difficult to avoid getting caught up in the drama of eating. Eating becomes an event and instead of eating to live we live to eat.
Now Harry and I are faced with the, new to us, strategy of making eating healthy project instead of a luscious event.
The fact is that Harry and I found each other late in life and we feel determined to have these special years together coming from exuberant living. In order to do that it entails a whole new way of thinking where food is concerned. “Healthy At 100″ is just one of the vehicles we are using to help manifest that exuberance we are talking about. We are also doing our yoga, meditation, and exercise and reading together every day to help create total well-being.
Already, after one month, we are seeing a difference in how we look – but more especially how we feel. We have more energy, have created more waking hours and we are sleeping more soundly. Who could ask for anything more?

Time Means Nothing

I am so incredibly blessed in having many good friends and they live in many different countries. Needless-to-say we do not see each other frequently. The nature of our, original, connection was so powerful that the amount of time that passes between visits means nothing.
My friend Giuseppe, from Italy, happened to be coming to New Orleans for a business meeting and indicated that he’d love to stop by, on his way back to Italy, for a visit with Harry and me. I picked him up at the Airport and immediately we began our togetherness just as though we’d never been apart. Giuseppe, Harry and I kept up our conversation for all that evening and most of the following day until it was time for him to go! With all that we covered, in that short amount of time, it felt like we must have been together for a week, instead of one evening and part of the next day.
Two weeks later it seemed like it was an eternity since he was here! Since then, I received an email from an American friend of mine, Ian, who now, lives in Tokyo. He shared that he was coming to town because his mother had sadly passed away. As I drove to the church, where the memorial service was to be held for Ian’s mother, I reflected on our friendship and contemplated just how long it was since I had last seen him. Was it four years ago in Bristol, England or was it three years ago in my old cottage next door to where Harry and I live now? I do know that he was filming me, at one point, in a documentary (for his own library) – O.K. so it must have been here. It mattered not what conclusion I came to, because the moment I saw him, there was no space of time. I embraced him, as a dear friend who had just lost his mother and he spoke his appreciation of my appearance there and then added excitedly, “I have brought your c.d.’s with me – can you please come to Amanda’s (his sister) home after the service?” “Of course!”
I replied, grateful that we would at least be able to talk. The service for his mother was surreal to me. I truly cannot explain what was going on for me except to say that I recognized that I barely knew Ian at all and yet felt this wonderful, warm connection not only to him but also to his dear, sister Amanda. The Priest talked of their mother as though she had known her most of her life – when, in fact, she hadn’t known her long at all! Later, at Amanda’s home I learned that their mother, whom I had never met, had been incredibly, accurately portrayed by this Priest and they were so amazed at that. All of this is to say – once again – time means nothing! Connection is the key! I am truly grateful for all the powerful connections I am making in my life and choose to nurture each one for as long as time allows – remembering that time means nothing, connection is absolutely, the key! What is Your Great Desire?

Whenever I have had a great desire to have something or somebody I have been fortunate enough to have that desire or wish come true!
The operative words I use are “great desire” – in other words, I eat, live, sleep and breath that desire every moment. Nothing will distract me from “it”. This has gone on for as long as I can remember.
Now, I was not aware at the time that this was happening – this has come to light on reflection.
For instance, when I was only eighteen years old, living in Scotland, I had this “great desire” to go to America. There was nothing that showed that this could be possible at the time. My parents certainly had no thoughts of taking me there! I had no relatives there. I knew nobody there. So how could a young “lassie”, only eighteen years old, have her dream come true?
So I wanted to go to America and apparently there was “no way”. Well, I never once bought into that! I continued to devour everything and anything to do with going to America.
Then one day, when I was having a disappointing day at work, I went out to lunch and picked up a newspaper. While I was eating my lunch I found myself looking at the Help Wanted advertisement and there it was — “Be a Nanny in America!”
The agency that helped this to come about was only steps away from where I was having lunch so that is how I spent my lunch hour. I went and filled out the forms and, lo and behold, three months later I was on that big “silver bird” headed for America!
That was many years ago – I am still here! More recently, just over a year ago, I wrote a poem. It is called “The Ultimate Embrace”. I was not totally sure where these words came from at the time I wrote this piece. They (the words) were clearly a subconscious wish!
The reason I feel this is because on April 19Th of 2007 I met this wonderful man. On May 19Th he proposed to me and on July 7Th (7/7/07) we were married!!
What did the poem have to do with this? You may ask! Well, when I was searching for the right words to put to a song to sing to him on our wedding day, I found the poem “The Ultimate Embrace” and everything that I’d written about, in that poem, a short time before, were a perfect match for my experience of my “now” husband.
The only thoughts about a relationship that I had had were, “I was open to meeting someone!”
Happy ending, we were married in Scotland (another “great desire”) with ALL my family present (another “great desire”) and (I should be careful what I ask for) in the home I was born and raised in (though no-one of my family had lived there for over 40 years)! (Another “great desire”
“The Ultimate Embrace” is now a song and a powerful one at that! It worked for me! It is and was my “great desire” – I am one fortunate lady!!!

What is Important?

As we go through life with all of its intricacies, we, all too often, lose sight of what’s important. It is interesting to me, to look back and see the choices I have made and the reasons I had for making them at the time – then on close scrutiny I see the subtle or not so subtle turn around to what is actually true.
Let me give you an example. When I decided to move away from Annapolis, Maryland, 10 years ago, I had totally resolved that I simply needed a new start – a fresh slate – a whole new life! I actually did accomplish that. What became apparent, however, as my new life was evolving on the West Coast, was that I also needed the friends that I had left back on the East Coast. What became more important at that time was that although the new location was magnificent and the new friends I was making there were wonderful, I was feeling separated from my ‘roots’. So the pull brought me back again to the East Coast. What had began as a whole new life adventure ended as a huge, lesson as to what is most important in the very bottom line for me and that is connection to friends and family.
Sometime ago, I was talking to another friend of mine who had moved away from the East Coast and I realized that they were really missing all their friends back here. I talked to them about their reasons for moving in the first place and saw so many similarities to my situation. I asked them what they felt was more important and they seemed so involved in defending their decision to move in the first place that they lost sight of their inner feeling of missing their friends who were still here. (This was my analysis of the situation – I kept to myself)
Recently, I brought a situation into my life that involves a possible re-connection with someone who was very important to me in my life for about one year. It had been more than forty years since we had spoken to one another. Now, he is reasonably, well known in the music arena and has an agent and travels all over the world. It was very easy to find him with the help of the Internet. However, he has placed an agent in his path and uses his agent to field the public away. I do understand his reasons for all of this but I also ask, “What’s important? Do we live our lives to hold ourselves away from one another or do we value our relationships for whatever they may be and treasure the meanings of all those special people who have entered our lives for one reason or another? My belief is that every single being that has become part of my life at one time or another is important. Needless – to – say I am aware there are some we may prefer to forget but that experience in itself is just one of life’s lessons that we can be forever grateful for.
We are all on this journey called life and it is time to acknowledge everyone who has crossed our path, for better or for worse. We need to realize that we do need each other to survive – that is what life is all about. We are all one and the sooner we decide to accept that – the better!
This is why I can honestly say that although my life has not always been ‘peaches and cream’ – I have absolutely no regrets! Choosing to live life in regret only would hold me back from all the good that I am experiencing in my life at the moment – and why would I do that? I love life!

Where Do They Go?

They are mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters, Company Presidents, Dentists, Lawyers, Jockeys and Prize Fighters. At least those roles were some of the roles they played. Now, they sit. They sit and wait for the next event of the day. Let’s see, what’s next? Chair dancing? Word Scramble? Or is it Lunch? Yes! You have guessed it today I went to an Assisted Living Center and checked out the possibility of entertaining the residents. I sat there in the lounge where many had gathered to listen to the piano playing of another volunteer. As I looked around the room and into the faces of these wonderful people I couldn’t help thinking about their lives before this. Whose mother is that? Whose father is that? What did he used to do? Then I quickly reminded myself of my own belief and that is that we are all one. We are no different – we are all here on our journey through life – being all that we can be and doing all that we can do. We all need love, compassion and understanding. No matter what stage of life we are at we all deserve to be respected and treated as a wonderful warm human being. So now I am really looking forward to my involvement as a volunteer and spending time with these wonderful living, loving, breathing brothers and sisters of my planet. I will be singing with them and reading to them and generally giving a little of my time and I am thrilled. Who Is Calling?

Have you noticed the various ways people answer their phones? Of course, since so many of us have caller i.d., we are usually quite sure who it is before we answer – but it never ceases to amaze me how predictable some of my friends are as to how they answer the phone. For instance I have one friend who always answers, “Hello?” there is a definite question mark along with the “hello”. Then, as soon as she establishes that it is I, she responds, “Oh! – Hello Mahri – —-” Now if I didn’t know better I ‘d think that she was disappointed that I’d called. But here are two things – 1. She is my best friend, and 2. She now has caller i.d.! I have another friend who always answers, “Mm-Hell-OH!” I don’t know whether he has caller i.d. or not! I do know that he uses this way to answer the phone regardless of who it is.
There are others who always sound angry when they pick up the phone – as though you have deliberately interrupted their day, “HELL-Oh!” or worse, “YES!” This is when I’d like to respond with, “Oh! I hadn’t even asked the question yet – I am so glad that your answer is, “Yes!”” If the person were not really pissed off before they answered the call they would be now! This is maybe not a good idea!
I sing at an Assisted Living Center near my home and I have heard the receptionist there answer, “It’s a great day here at Atria! This is Mary! How can I direct your call?” For anyone who is impatient – this could be too much information. But for Mary, by the time she has said this phrase for the hundredth time – she may even believe it herself! Not a bad idea!
My dear Harry, on the other hand, nine times out of ten, checks the caller i.d. and in the friendliest voice asks, “Is that YOU?” Needless-to-say, this is my favorite response to a call. It always evokes a positive response. I feel that I am reasonably; unpredictable in the way I answer my phone. I had not given it much thought. But, usually, I look at the caller I. D. and if it is someone I had in mind to call, I answer with, “Oh! My God – I can’t believe it! I was just getting ready to call you!” or, if it is someone that I already know is having a negative life experience, I answer, in a very soft way, “Hello, my darling – how are things?” Come to think of it – I am so glad to have caller I.D. – it sure makes me think before I answer that call.
It may not seem important, but I believe that the way we come across, as we answer the telephone, can truly make an effect on our conversation going forward. We need to be mindful of others sensitivities as we answer their call – it could make or break the ‘connection’.

Why Hold On?

It never ceases to amaze me how so many people seem to want to hold onto stuff they no longer need! Now in this case I am not talking about that old sweater or that pair of comfy but worn-out shoes. No – I am talking about things that happened so long ago that none of the people involved truly remembers the details – all they know is that if they encounter each other they must maintain the frozen, straight ahead stare. On pain of death they must not achieve eye contact and God forbid they must not smile in the remote direction of the other person.
Needless-to-say I was recently in a gathering of folk who had not ‘set eyes’ on each other for approximately 8 years. I was aware that there had never really been warm and fuzzy feelings between these people and had no knowledge of their ‘stories’ and frankly had no desire to hear them either. But it was an enormous ‘elephant in the room’ and I believe that, although I am extremely sensitive to this kind of environment, I would not be the only person to experience the discomfort.
As the occasion called for us to be in the company of these people, over a two day period, I had plenty of time to evaluate the scene. I love to read body language and noticed that all of the people involved worked hard to remain frozen and a couple of them, who were the seniors of the group, even were somewhat crippled. There are no accidents! Another couple obviously needed the numbing effects of alcohol or drugs to maintain their pose of indifference. Why?
I have been through many difficult times in my life and there have been times when I know that I felt that I might never forgive someone for their actions – but I am truly grateful that I have found forgiveness and put it to work in my life. I did this for me!
There is no one in my life that I could not now feel love for, regardless of the past! What a relief!!! It is the very best gift I have ever given myself! The freedom I feel has given me a whole new lease in life. By simply asking myself, “Why hold on?” and then answering carefully, addressing each situation, one by one, I saw no real good reason to hold onto my negative feelings and it was only hurting me! That did it! I let go!
Think about it! Why hold on? This is only one more example of the law of attraction. If it is causing you to shut down any part of your joy – you don’t need that! Set yourself free and allow all your joy to bubble up – hey! You might even find that for the first time in your life you are enjoying it!! That might not be so bad – eh?
