Year 3 enjoyed an awesome day out at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. In class they are studying the continent of Africa and what better way to understand the magnificence of the African wildlife than to see it for themselves in real life. They saw giraffes, buffalo, antelope and of course the king of all animals, the lion.

The Tortoise and the Hare

We are very proud of our relationship with Northern Ballet and delighted that they invited our Year 1 children to be their test audience for their latest production for children 'The Tortoise and the Hare'. At the workshop following the performance, the children shared their feedback which was overwhelmingly positive. What a brilliant afternoon of culture!

Leavers Assembly

It was an emotional time for Year 6 as they presented their final assembly. Many important visitors attended including governors, local councillors and special friends to the school. There were four awards for academic achievement, citzenship, contribution to school and music. The talents of all the children were celebrated and parents and families were able to join in the day.

A final treat for Years 5 and 6 was a trip to Leeds Town Hall for a concert performed by the orchestra of Opera North. It was a swashbuckling affair with a variety of music with a pirate theme. Members of the orchestra embraced the moment and a great time was had by all. It was a stunning experience to listen to such an amazing orchestra live.

A group of children were lucky enough to attend 6 weeks of sport, education and fun at Leeds Rhinos Tryzone. They were commended on their attendance for every session that took place after school. A final celebration of the course included an inspirational talk by Rhinos player Jamie Jones Buchanan and of course, a group photo!

Music Concert

A celebration of all things musical was the order of the day when Years 4 and 5, along with Year 6, performed a concert for parents. Year 5 played the fife and Year 4 sang and played a range of instruments.

'Always' Children

Our 'Always' children are those who consistently demonstrate how to be a model pupil with 100% commitment in class and positive behaviour at all times throughout the day. Being a role model all the time is a huge responsibility so the older 'Always' children were rewarded with a trip to see Horrible Histories at the Bradford Alhambra.

Horrible Histories

A special end of year treat for Year 6 with a trip to Bradford Alhambra to watch a performance of Horrible Histories: the Groovy Greeks. The show was brilliant and very funny and the children were able to visit Bradford City Park for a picnic afterwards.

Fife Concert

Year 6 demonstrated their musical talent at the concert to celebrate the end of their music lessons. Mrs Miller has been teaching Year 6 how to play the fife for two years. When the children transfer to high school, those with an interest in music will already have the basic skills to take up an instrument of their own choice.

Pride Assembly

As part of their Personal, Social and Health Education curriculum, the children in Year 2 complete a very successful project called PRIDE (Parents Role in Drug and Safety Education). The PRIDE project runs for 6 weeks and encourages partnership with parents with lessons focussing on medicines and household substances. An assembly to celebrate the project is a shared experience with parents at the end of the 6 weeks.

The members of Ash House were jubilant when they heard the news that, when all the scores were added, they were the overall winners at Sports Day. Congratulations and very well done!

Sports Day

Another successful Sports Day with all the children rising to the challenge and giving of their best. There was plenty of grit and determination and the sporting behaviour and attitude was exceptional, as always.

The Ugly Duckling

Reception class presented their assembly for parents. Inspired by Northern Ballet's 'Ugly Duckling', the children performed their very own dramatic interpretation of the story set to music. It was a wonderful performance full of excitement and sadness with a happy ending.

Community Project

All children across the school have been engaged in a community project initiated by Councillor Fiona Venner. The project is one of concern to the children and that is dog fouling on the Hawksworth Wood estate. A competition was held to choose posters to be displayed around the estate and these were our Years 5 and 6 winners. Councillor Venner and Councillor Illingworth came to assembly to award the prizes.

Leeds Rhinos

Children were invited to attend the Leeds Rhinos v St Helen's rugby match. At half time they were able to join the parade around the pitch. It was a thrilling match with Rhinos beating Saints 48 points to 18. A great opportunity to experience the drama of a live sporting event.

It was an action packed day when Dan from Leeds Rugby worked with the children on developing their rugby skills. As you can see from the pictures, they were not afraid to get involved and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.

Pro Cycling

Children in Years 5 and 6 developed their advanced cycling skills with a pro cycling expert. They completed a range of challenges including an obstacle course, limbo stick, speed bumps and ramp.

World War 2 Experience

Year 4 visited Thwaites Mill to experience life during World War 2. They went inside an actual Anderson shelter and made their own gas masks.

Leeds Lights Winners!

The two teams responsible for preparing and presenting their Leeds Lights Project enjoyed a fabulous day at Northern Powergrid. Both teams designed imaginative sets of Christmas lights for the competition against other schools. The prize was for the winning design to be made into an actual light display for Dortmund Square in December 2015. Needless to say, they were thrilled to win and can't wait to see their design constructed and lighting up the Leeds skyline at Christmas.

Design a Bike Helmet

Halford's experts came to talk to the children about how to look after their bikes to ensure that they are safe to ride. They stressed the importance of wearing a helmet and asked the children to design a helmet of the future. Here are some of the designs.

Field Study Trip to Malham Cove

The majestic Malham Cove is a spectacular curving cliff formation of limestone rock. The children in Year 6 had a wonderful time enjoying the stunning scenery when they visited the cove as part of their geography curriculum. Bird watchers were set up to watch the peregrine falcons that nest in the cove and allowed the children to look through their telescopes.

Multi Sports at Leeds Beckett University

The children in Year 6 enjoyed a wide variety of sports when they spent the day at Leeds Beckett University. They took the opportunity to look around the buildings and grounds to give them a taste of university life and inspire them to work hard and go themselves one day.

Enterprise Week

Year 6 had the ingenious idea to create Father's Day gifts to sell at the Enterprise Marketplace. Children could buy a card and a decorated box of goodies as a very special gift.
