Our society is fascinated, even obsessed, with boredom. In school, teachers do all they can to make learning more fun. At work, people steal moments here and there regularly to entertain themselves. Prior to the web, they did this at the water cooler. Now, the water cooler has gone online and they play social games, keep tabs on the news, or on their stock portfolio. When they get home, both kids and adults fight boredom with great intensity most commonly by watching endless hours of television or on the web.

But what exactly is boredom? I won’t bore you with the Wikipedia entry on boredom, but instead I’ll try to take a different angle. They way I have come to define boredom is a task that is not necessarily tedious, but instead meaningless. It is this meaninglessness in the task that makes one bored, instead of the task itself. This is why boredom is just one step away from apathy.

For example, I used to feel when I was a kid that mowing the lawn was very boring. I did all I could to put it off or shirk the chore onto my sister as much as I could. When I couldn’t avoid it any longer, I suffered through it with a strong sense of drudgery. Now that I am older and live in my own house, I feel differently about mowing the lawn. I still feel the job is quite tedious and I don’t look forward to it, but I do not find it boring anymore. The difference between then and now is the sense of meaning and purpose in the task.

When I was a kid, I mowed the lawn purely because my parents told me to do it. I had no real connection to it and I saw it as only benefiting them. Now that it is my own lawn, I see it as a reflection of myself in the community. It demonstrates to the community that I work to maintain it and keep it nice looking for all. If I don’t mow the lawn and it gets too long, I feel that I’m not keeping myself up for the benefit of the neighbors and other community members. There is a purpose on the tedious job now.

I’ll give another example, that of my eldest son, the Warrior. He has trouble in school and frequently complains about it being boring. When we lived in California, I thought he was bored because the work was not challenging enough. The pace of the lessons was too slow and there was a lot more repetition than he needed. When we moved to Minnesota, the pace was a lot faster and he had to catch up. Since he is very intelligent, he caught up with the rest of the class rather quickly. But he still complained about it being boring. Now that he is in the second grade and has been in his multi-age class (where first and second graders are combined into a single classroom), he is in the groove of things at school, and still says it is boring. He has trouble staying focused and getting his homework done, even with help.

So I thought about his boredom in terms of meaning. From talking with and observing him, I’ve come to the conclusion that he does not see the relevance of the lessons to him. He does not see any purpose in learning the material being taught. When he gets frustrated at having to finish an assignment, he complains, “It doesn’t matter.”

A few years ago, I posted about the growing sense of meaninglessness in our society. In our social quest for material accumulation (described as “growth”), we have lost our connection with the larger universe. We have lost the purpose in our life as we have come to believe since the Industrial Revolution that we need to be focused on the material and that there is no larger purpose. Why else do we spend so much of our precious time focusing on empty and superficial activities, such as watching television or randomly surfing the web?

I do not claim to be above television and web surfing, but I try to limit it to shows and activities I find specifically enjoyable. I will record specific shows that I’m interested in on TV (thank the Gods for inspiring the inventor of the DVR!) instead of simply putting on a channel and watching what’s on or surfing the channels in the off-chance that I will like something. When I don’t watch a pre-recorded show I like, I prefer to turn off the TV and read articles from online authors I enjoy (like Gary North) and offline books I like.

Though I am not immune to being bored at times, the way I have learned to get past it is to either change tasks to something that has meaning, or working to find meaning and purpose in the task at hand. When you’re bored at work, for example, try to think about how your work helps your employer. Remember, especially in these times of rapid change, that if your employer can’t make a profit, you can’t get paid. If you find no meaning in the work of your employer, then you need to work on finding a new employer (or even a new career). You are not acting according to your Will, so take a step back and evaluate your will and what you can do to live by it.

If you don’t understand your Will enough to follow it yet, take time away from a boring task at home, like channel surfing, and work on discovering it. If your boredom is coming from your job, look at the relationship between your calling and your occupation.

Remember that many tasks that are in accordance to your Will are tedious and require discipline to complete. But they have meaning to you because they advance your Great Work and are therefore not boring. Do your activities that have meaning and consciously do them with discipline, and you will find your life becoming less and less boring.

I was looking for books for Wiccan and Pagan kids for our children. It’s one thing to learn about something from one’s parents, but reading about it from others can help reinforce what is being taught. I haven’t looked to see what books are out there in a while, so I didn’t quite know what to expect.

The good news is that there are definitely more choices available for Wiccan books for kids. The bad news is that many of the books are not very well written, or are written for children who were previously learning Christianity. Our kids were never Christian and are not steeped in Christian mythology and morals. They were raised from birth in a Wiccan home. This rules out the old standbys that I learned Wicca from originally, such as Silver Ravenwolf.

We decided to try out a couple of books that looked interesting. One such book is the new book An Ordinary Girl – A Magical Child by W. Lyon Martin. It is a fun book that has a lot of good watercolor pictures and describes seven-year-old Wiccan girl who is raised in a Pagan household. Though it has a few factual errors (such as describing Diana as a Greek deity), the writing style is age-appropriate and has an openness to it that allows for the wide variation found in Wiccan practices. It also discusses how Rabbit learned to handle some difficulties such as being teased for not being Christian at school and banishing bad dreams. Overall, we found this book to be worthwhile and our kids enjoy it too.

Another book we ordered for our kids to use is A Witch’s Primer: Grade One by Lorin Manderly. Some of the reviews questioned this book being for first graders, and the reading level is definitely above that. There are no pictures, so it is more of a book for an older child or for a parent to read to the child. It is a good overview of a wide variety of Wiccan topics, ranging from the Wheel of the Year, the Gods and Goddesses of a few pantheons, talismans, magical alphabets, and many others. Some people think that these topics are too advanced for that age group, but the way I see it, kids can handle more advanced ideas than many adults think. They may not become fluent in Theban writing at the age of seven, but our second grade boy (the Warrior) loves secret codes. This book does not go into detail about any topic, but has a great smattering of a wide variety of topics that define Wicca. It is not intended to replace the parents (for example, A Witch’s Primer does not talk much about the Rede, leaving that for the parents), but it is a good way to get ideas for religious teaching. I look forward for the Grade Two book, when it comes out.

Though neither of these books is without faults, I recommend both of them for parents who wish to use books to add to their kids Wiccan education.

As more Wiccans who were initially called to the Craft in the late 90s and early 2000s have children of their own and want to give their kids a religious foundation, I’m sure more books like these will be written and published. I look forward to it.

I know this will rub many Pagans and Wiccans the wrong way, but I was dismayed to learn about why it seems that today’s automatic dishwasher detergents don’t really clean dishes. Not that long ago, you could put dishes in the dishwasher and have reasonable expectations that your dishes would come out, well, clean enough to eat off of.

The reason is because the dishwasher detergent makers all quietly changed their formulae to remove phosphorus because of a government ban in 17 states. Many environmentalists rejoice at this, but even though I worship the earth and the nature gods, I’m not the kind of Wiccan who thinks that all American should be forced to live with unsanitary, dirty dishes. We are part of this earth and need to respect it and all creatures, but we need to respect ourselves and live according to our will.

Phosphorus is an important element in automatic dishwasher detergent. It significantly helps bind the dirt and grime to the soap and keeps it from re-sticking back on the dishes. It also keeps the dirt from sticking to the various parts of the dishwasher. In a nutshell, it is what makes it so you don’t have to scrape your dishes clean before putting them in the dishwasher.

Don’t get me wrong, if you wish to use non-phosphate automatic dishwasher detergent, that should be your choice. But the government should not be requiring that you do it. If there is a market for both choices (and I think there is), the manufacturers should be allowed to make both options and let the customers decide for themselves which they prefer.

Instead, millions of Americans in areas that don’t have phosphate contamination problems are forced to use inferior detergent and are resorting to other methods of cleaning that may cause more environmental harm. For example, many are handwashing their dishes which uses many, many times more water than the 6-8 gallons a modern dishwasher will use for a whole load. Others are running the dishwasher twice to get them clean, which doubles all of the energy and water used. So it’s a trade-off between some phosphate use vs. significantly increased water and energy use. Energy production is not without its harmful pollutants, and in some of America’s largest cities, water is quite scarce.

So, other than complaining to the governments that banned phosphates in dishwasher detergent that they are overstepping their bounds on micromanaging Americans’ lives and taking away choices that people should be able to make themselves, according to their will, what can you do about this?

You can make your own detergent very simply, cheaper, and it will actually get your dishes clean. Simply mix equal parts of borax (20 Mule Team brand works great) and baking soda and use it in your automatic dishwasher as you would regular detergent. If you have a problem with spots, simply put white vinegar in place of rinsing agent. It is an all-natural way to get your dishes cleaner, and it is cheaper than the commercial detergents that don’t work anymore.

I suggest cleaning your dishwasher first, though, to get rid of any gunk and build-up from your old detergent. You can do this with baking soda and white vinegar.

Then, after your dishwasher is clean you can use your all-natural homemade dishwasher detergent. Here is a demo of how you can make it.

I performed a dark moon ritual last night and was reminded of something that most people need to be reminded of periodically. I was told many people don’t receive what they are seeking because they lack proper focus and discipline. Many people develop their will and know (or think they know) what they want to accomplish, but they cannot seem to make it work out.

Many self-help books talk about the importance of taking time to think about what you want in life. They talk about the importance of setting goals and visualizing them. They push activities like speaking out affirmations into a mirror, or in the car. But even after reading and following the advice of many of these books, so many people can’t seem to make any headway toward accomplishing their goals.

It is be cause they lack discipline. Discipline is that “dirty” word that self-help books don’t want to talk about too much, or else the system sold in the book will sound like real work. That would hurt sales.

Here are some things that I am working on improving in myself that you might find helpful.

Daily ritual – It is important to do a small ritual every day. Pick a time to do it, such as first thing in the morning or last thing in the evening. It should be a ritual that raises your Kundalini energy up the chakras. I previously wrote about a small ritual that does this, though I’d recommend reversing the order of the chakras and starting from Muladhara and finishing with Sahasrara.

Focus and be mindful – Mental focus and mindfulness are a form of disciplining the mind. If you go through your day allowing yourself to be distracted by all the things that demand your attention, you will find that you worked hard and finished nothing. This is particularly important at work, since with the economy crashing around us, only those who are productive will be employed. If you can’t focus your mind on the task your on, you won’t be helping your company to grow (or possibly survive). You also won’t have the focus necessary to find a new job if that becomes necessary.

Prioritize everything – Do only the most important thing that you can be doing right now. This is where it is important to know your will, because what is the most important thing you can be doing is always determined in relation to your will. Don’t waste your time on things that won’t really matter. That is just busywork that you like to do to give yourself the feeling of being productive and disciplined, even though you are not. This includes prioritizing family time, meditation and ritual time, sleeping time, and work time.

Block-schedule your time – This means to plan your day by the half-hour. Start from the time you get up in the morning (with an alarm so you don’t oversleep) and go through all the way until it is bedtime. During your work-hours, consider breaking this down to 15-minute increments. Set a timer or alarm for each time you need to change tasks, according to the schedule. Follow this schedule and you will find that you will get a lot more accomplished everyday.

When you develop the habits of strong focus and discipline, you will find yourself able to finish what you start, be able to confidently commit to new things, and you will find that you make more money while not sacrificing yourself or your family.

It seems the FDA recently had an exciting 4th of July weekend. On the Friday before that long weekend, it proposed in a 47-page document that all nutritional and supplemental ingredients be required to file with the FDA to prove their safety. And the kicker is that it is retroactive back to 1994! What this means is that all nutritional supplements (including multivitamins, superfoods, and other common supplements like resveratrol, curcumin, hyaluronic acid, acai berry, and millions of others) will be banned.

This is nothing more than a direct frontal attack by Big Pharma to kill the natural supplement industry. They are scared of the competition (as most big companies are) and are using their age-old tactic of using government bureaucracy to prevent you from using the supplements you want.

There is nothing to indicate that there is any real epidemic of supplement-related deaths or injuries, and definitely nothing to ban all of them that were made in the last 17 years.

Some think that it’s not a big deal; that the supplement companies can just file their paperwork and be good with the FDA. But it is not that easy. The costs of getting all the tests done that the FDA requires costs millions and millions of dollars. Most natural supplement companies are small and simply cannot afford that kind of expense. And they will go out of business while the tests and filings are done because it takes months, and commonly years, to complete. It is how the big companies kill their competition because the big pharma companies have billions of dollars to spend, so to drop $10-20 million on tests is a small cost of business. But that expense is death for a company that makes only $1 million a year.

This new rule is designed to destroy your ability to choose on your own the supplements you want to use, if any. That is why they passed it on July 1, the afternoon of a Friday before a long holiday weekend.

I highly suggest stocking up on as many of the supplements you use, to prepare for the day they disappear off the shelves like the very effective Ephedra did in 2004. You can write to your federal representatives as well and tell them to direct the FDA to drop this rule, but Congress moves at glacial pace compared to the bureaucracies like the FDA who are not run by elected officials who are accountable to voters.

Stocking up now before the runs on the stores occur is something you can, and should, do quickly. Buy as much as you can comfortably afford.

It has been quite a long and unexpected hiatus since I last published an article, but I have not forgotten you, dear reader. For my family, it has been a time of darkness and light, but most of all a time of growth.

As some of you may have noticed, we moved away from the Los Angeles area back to Minnesota. Though we loved the weather (probably the most pleasant weather anywhere on Earth), it was not the place for us. The culture didn’t really fit us and the economy sealed the deal. This last winter was our time of darkness.

During the darkness, I was able to shed some of my responsibilities. Ones that I should have let go of earlier, as they were not in accordance with my will but were accepted by a sense of obligation. It is one thing to help someone out but you must keep in mind your will when doing so. I was also able to do much inner work with my spirituality by exploring the dark worlds.

The time of light started in May, when our fifth child was born. He is quite different from the others and we still have not quite figured him out yet. So for now I call him the Engima and he joins his siblings, the Diva, the Warrior, the Diplomat and the Rose. I expect to be able to come up with another moniker for him soon, as I learn more about his soul.

When you perform magick to change your life and increase your wealth, don’t be surprised when it all goes to shit for a while. The old edifice of your situation must be broken down and torn apart to make room for the new. The gods of light also are the gods that burn things away. And the brightest god truly does burn it away so that you may make a new edifice from the ashes.

This time, I am more experienced and have a better understanding of my will to make my new edifice in accordance with my will.

So things are quite bright now. Our clan of 7 people is complete, allowing me to end my role as the Inseminator devote myself to being the Father. I found a new job that pays better than any other in the past, making it so I don’t have to worry about money. And I have a better clarity of myself, such that I may resume various aspects of my Great Work, which includes discussing magick, spirituality and religion for you, dear reader.

I recently finished reading John Taylor Gatto’s book, The Underground History of American Education, and came to an amazing realization that affects me and nearly everyone else I know. Though he doesn’t say it directly in his book, I learned that the fear of failure in our society is taught in our schools. This is not an accidental byproduct, but instead is built into the design of the system.

Here is how it works. Students are separated from their support networks, mainly their parents. They are lumped together with other students, but yet they are separated from them through age-based grades, caste classes like “Enriched/Gifted,” “Mainstream,” and “Remedial.” Furthermore, they are separated from the other students within their classroom through draconian rules against fraternizing. This places each student in a completely unsupported position, where they are put on the spot to answer questions correctly on the ever more frequent tests and assessments.

All of these tests are given high importance by the teachers and school administrators. The school also places a lot of pressure on parents to give these tests the same high importance as well. This pressure is pushed on each student to answer all questions correctly or else it will affect their grade. And their grade is Very Important because it will affect them for the rest of their life through various ripple effects (as if employers care what grades you got in the seventh grade, or even in high school).

This constant pressure-cooker that is focused with laser-accuracy on each student through the school system is designed and very successful at crushing the will of the student. Students find that they make mistakes. They learn that those mistakes are signs of personal failure, reflected on their grade. Perfection is the focus of all tests, yet the student is forced to attain this moment of perfection on their own.

The result of 12+ years of this (16+ years if the student goes to college) is they have a very strong fear of failure. They find that if they try something, they might fail and society has no place for failure. They lose sight of their will because they learned long ago that if they strive to try something, they will fail. They learn they are not good enough to go out on their own, make mistakes, and learn from them. They learn they need to have a teacher, supervisor, boss, overseer nearby to tell them what to do and how. As they grow older and more experienced, they learn that they need to have a scapegoat to blame failure on when they cannot hide that it happened. They learn to Cover Their Ass.

Homeschooling doesn’t have this system designed to crush people’s will and spirit. It allows children to make mistakes and learn from them without the pressure of the system bearing down on them. Instead, they are allowed to try new things and make mistakes knowing that the failures are forgivable.

I’m not saying students should not learn to do well and instead blow-off and ignore mistakes. What I’m saying is that mistakes will be made and they should be allowed to experience that. With my children, when they make a mistake, I show them how they went wrong. Whenever possible, I try to guide them to realize for themselves what the mistake is and how to correct it. Then I tell them to correct it to make it right.

Our society, through its pressure-cooker compulsory mass schooling programs, teaches students that they make mistakes and they don’t have the personal power to make them right. Students learn that they are not good enough to succeed because they make mistakes.

When the power to correct mistakes and to right wrongs is stripped from people, they tend to become fearful to try new things and to take chances. They learn that failure is a permanent condition and that they are doomed to it because they are not perfect. If you don’t believe me on this point, just try to get a job after a period of unemployment.

We need to teach our children (and each other) that they have the power, given to them by the Gods, to right wrongs, correct mistakes, and grow from them. We need to show them though our actions and our words that the journey of life is a long and winding road. It is not a line leading steadily upward on the path of “success.” The winding nature of it is what gives life meaning. If we didn’t fail often, then our successes will not have meaning.

For those of us who are older and are struggling to overcome the paralyzing fear of failure, remember that we are all learning and growing. In the eyes of the Gods, we are always children, always making mistakes, with the diving power to correct them and learn from them. Take a chance. Do something crazy because it seems like a fun thing to do, even if (or because) it doesn’t make logical sense by the rules of society to do. For some inspiration, I recommend watching the awesome Jim Carrey movie, Yes Man, or reading Daniel Quinn’s novel, The Holy.

The best cure for Fear of Failure Paralysis is to forcibly break it and do something. Learn about your Will, take the Fool’s step off the cliff, and trust the Gods to catch and guide you.

It has been quite a while since I last posted, and I apologize for that. The winds of change are blowing on many levels and during the turbulence, I’ve lost my income like many others. During times like this, the Gods push us to take another, harder look at our will to make sure we truly know and understand it.

Will is not something that you just know or don’t know. Many magickal circles talk about it as if it’s something like knowing an historical fact where you either know it or you don’t, and once you find it you’re done. But in reality it is more like knowing what’s in the deepest core of an onion.

The first step in this most important journey is to know that there is an onion to find, and then to find it. This is what I discuss in “Discover Your Will” but you need to know that this is just the first step. The process of discovering and re-discovering your will must be repeated so that you can peel back the layers to get to the core of your will and your Great Work. The more you understand it, the more you can focus your efforts on fulfilling it.

The Gods test us and we suffer so that we can continue in this process. When we are comfortable, we get stuck in our old thinking. We figure that it is sufficient because life is going well. But it is not the end goal, so we must suffer in order to force us to dig deeper within ourselves and work on deeper levels with magick and our Gods.

Superficial people resist this with all their might, but they are weak due to their shallow roots. If they don’t decide to change, they will be blown away as a weed from the Garden of Life and Death by the winds of change.

Over the last couple years, I’ve learned about the power of the dark, chaotic forces. As I initially grew up magickally, I focused on only the light-side but over the last couple years, I’ve learned that there is a balance that is necessary between the light and the dark.

The light is the force of order and stability, and it is a force that has grown steadily over the last couple hundred years in the western world. Most think this is a good thing because they want safety and security from anything bad happening to them. But the result of an overabundance of light is oppression and stagnation. The state is a prime example of a force of light. It wants order, and demands it. Everyone must fit in their place, as determined by government forces through the compulsory school systems, and must stay there.

People are taught that the state is their God, their ultimate caretaker. They believe the state will prevent them from suffering from joblessness with Unemployment Insurance. They will not suffer from poverty through the various welfare and social “safety nets.” They will not suffer harm from others because the state will protect them with its police and military forces.

But the winds of change are blowing. People are starting to get a hint that the government cannot replace the Gods. They don’t really understand it yet, but the seed is planted in their mind. Governments at all levels are approaching bankruptcy. Who will pay the welfare, unemployment insurance, government insurance checks and police protection when the government bank accounts are filled with nothing but debt and the checks bounce?

When this happens, people will suddenly learn that the state they were worshiping was a false god.

The winds of change are blowing. The new Tea Party movement is a sign of this, along with Ron Paul’s attacks against the Federal Reserve, which have gone much farther than even he thought possible. But it’s not the end. National movements are not going to be effective in releasing the individual to do their will. One must focus on their local environment. The most important election is your local city council, since it’s there that the laws that affect your day-to-day life are mostly written, such as local zoning and parking ordinances, etc.

But think even more local than that. Look at your home. Your family. Yourself. Take this time of turbulence to do magick and get closer to your true Gods. Peel back the layers of your will. When you know the innermost core of your will, your personal path will be clear. When this happens, such issues like joblessness, loneliness, powerlessness will fade away in the power you control from your core.

Darkness is the source of this hyper-personal power. It is the chaotic forces that allow you to rise up against the personal oppression that controls you through your thinking, your worries, anxieties and fear. You were taught to fear the dark, as it is the source of power that cannot be controlled by others. But when you rise up above your fear and embrace the Dark Mother, you will find she will fill you with a light brighter than anything the light forces can shine.

When this happens, external forces such as soulless governments, corporations, and self-righteous people will lose their power over you. And as this happens to more and more people, the oppressors will crumble in the darkness of the chaos of individuals’ wills.

As you probably know, Ouranos and Gaia begat Kronos (Romanized as Saturn) who castrated his father. Kronos and Rhea begat Zeus, who overthrew his father in the epic war of the Titanomachy. But there is much more to the story I would like to shed light on.

Many have interpreted the stories of Ouranos-Kronos-Zeus as an illustration of patriarchal rulership, where the ruler desires power and seeks to keep hold of that power at all costs, similar to the Biblical story of Herod the Great. They see Ouranos and Kronos as the “evil” father who rules as a tyrant and desires to keep his subjects, even his own children, within his tight grip. It is only the benevolent Zeus and His “enlightened” siblings who overthrow the “tyranny” and bring light and order to the world.

I propose this is not the case.

To begin, let’s look at the meanings behind the deities. Ouranos is the celestial, timeless sky who descends each night to mate with his wife, Gaia. To relate them to the Qabalistic Tree of Life, I propose they correspond to Chokma (Ouranos) and Binah (Gaia). They are two parts of the timeless Supernal Triad. But to bring about manifestation to more concrete planes, there needs to be a way to break from timelessness and create a more concrete form. Thus, Gaia and Ouranos gave birth to Kronos.

I think Saturn/Kronos is frequently misplaced at Binah on the Tree of Life. This has never made sense to me because that would be the only planet originally placed in the Supernal Triad, thus breaking the natural symmetry and rhythm of the Tree. As a result, I realized that Kronos properly exists in Daat, the Abyss. It is through time that all lower aspects of existence can be manifest because of the framework provided by time.

Kronos castrated his father, Ouranos, not out of the petty desire for power but instead it was the power of time that made further emanations mortal and changing. In effect, the creation of time castrated Ouranos’ ability to emanate timeless offspring. Now all things have a time-based reference and therefore, are mortal and finite. This is what separates the Supernal Triad from the lower Sephiroth.

The story says that Kronos wanted to prevent his children from overthrowing him, as he had with his father. As a result, he devoured his offspring until Zeus tricked him. This makes sense because time devours (ends) everything as now everything changes and is finite.

The story of the Titanomachy can be taken a couple of ways. One is that Zeus, with the help of his mother and grandmother, discovered the secret to beating time, thus becoming able to create immortal, unchanging and supernal creations. But he did not kill time. Instead he only banished Kronos to Tartaros, the Abyss. This does not diminish the power of time, but makes it a force hidden from the understanding of lower emanations on the Tree.

When Zeus, a deity of light and order, led the Olympian Gods to the victory of the Titanomachy, it broke the universe through the barrier of timelessness and enabled more concrete forms lower on the Tree to manifest.

But it was not a total victory. Kronos was not killed or made impotent. He was simply hidden away in the darkness of Tartaros, where many of the dark and powerful Titans exist. Kronos still rules all below Him, as time ends all things just as it begins all things.

The second way to look at the Olympian victory is that Zeus did not beat time, but only learned to use it for His will which is to bring forth further manifestations on lower, and more concrete, levels. Zeus brought a further separation between the Light and the Dark when he pushed Kronos into Tartaros.

Many more people worship Zeus instead of Kronos because they are drawn to His light and sense of concrete order. They shun the things that live in the dark out of fear of it.

This is why most people cannot progress beyond Chesed and truly cross the Great Abyss. They cannot get past the fear of the ticking clock, the vast darkness with its many pitfalls into hubris and insanity. Most focus their energies only on the light and wonder why the dark, destructive forces of time always intrude in their workings and in their lives.

A few learn to embrace the dark and balance it with light. They seek its wisdom and understanding. This allows them to truly understand time and use Kronos to guide them across toward the eternal powers of the Supernal Triad on the other side. Kronos is not a petty tyrant who wishes for everyone to stay within His grasp at all costs. He is a guide for those who wish to grok time and use it to further their will, for both creation and the necessary destruction.

These select people who commit to studying the dark mysteries also understand that order is not timeless. Light is not timeless. All things are born of the dark and they will die in the dark. It is through embracing the darkness of Kronos/Daat that they can evolve into a higher eternal being themselves.

These times are tough for many people, and they are going to be a lot tougher for a while. We are in an economic storm that started in 2008 and is going to continue for at least the rest of the year. The “recovery” we saw was merely the eye of the hurricane.

But does this mean there’s nothing you can do for yourself or your family? Does it mean that you’re doomed to poverty? No, not at all. Even during the Great Depression, many families grew in abundance and some even became wealthy. How do you grow instead of decline? It’s a matter of understanding the nature of abundance.

I’m sure you’ve read about abundance before, as it is a popular topic among Pagans/Wiccan literature and elsewhere. But hopefully here I might provide a slightly different perspective that may help supplement what others have written.

Money, wealth, love, and all things are ruled by the Law of Gravity, as it affects energy in addition to matter. The law may manifest differently depending on the nature of the matter or energy but it does affect everything. Ever notice that people who already have millions of dollars are the ones who receive even more millions? The same as how people who have nothing generally don’t receive anything substantial either. Government policies and forced redistribution of wealth through taxes and welfare cannot change this fundamental law of the universe.

Many have said that the difference is your attitude. You need to think about positive things to attract positive things. If you think about negative things, then you will attract that. There is a lot of truth to it. But I don’t agree with how I’ve seen many approach this.

I see a lot of Wiccans who go through life trying very hard to focus exclusively on positive things, and deny as much as they can the negative things. This is an unbalanced way to live and tends to not achieve the positive abundance that’s sought, but instead the denial brings misery. It is a passive-aggressive way of viewing the universe.

Instead, my suggestion is to put aside your expectations. Life shouldn’t be “like” anything. Many, including myself, become despondent when life brings something that “shouldn’t have happened.” Life is. Just take it how it comes and don’t worry about how it “should” be. Instead, view the events that happen to you in terms of your will. The events happen and you need to decide how to react to them.

Think of it this way. If you lose your job (as I personally experienced during the Dot.Bomb crash), you can go home and mope about how your former employer “owes” you something, like a job or salary. Or how the government “owes” you for higher unemployment benefits than the small amount they give for a while. Or how the government “owes” you for a livelihood. This thinking comes from how you’re not “supposed” to be jobless. You say this shouldn’t have happened and someone (other than you) caused your plans to be thwarted.

Well maybe someone other than you messed up. But how is that thinking going to help your situation? Instead, think (and pray) about it in terms of your will. Maybe it is a blessing in disguise. You need to look at your will and decide from that what you are going to do next. Don’t worry about the past, about what happened. Just look at where you are at right now, what is your will, and what can you do today to further yourself along your path. If you don’t know what your will is, then I highly suggest checking out my series on the Witches Square, which will help you discover your will.

How does this relate to abundance and gravity? Here’s how. Take what happens to you or around you and find something, no matter how small, to be thankful for or that is positive. This is where I deviate from the people I see who only see the positive and deny the negative.

Don’t deny that it sucks to lose your job (or whatever negative happened to you). Likewise, don’t deny that you’re pissed off about it. Anger and sadness are a natural part of a balanced life. Scream out your anger to Medusa. Then see where you are at and what you are going to do. What good came out of it? Did it free you from an unhappy situation (even though it wasn’t the way you wanted to be freed)? The way to see the positive and attract the positive (thus raising the gravitational pull of positive things to yourself) is to find the blessing in everything.

If someone else gets the promotion you wanted, don’t resent them. Be truly happy for them. Get pissed off about it at home, figure out what the blessing in it could be for you (this may take some meditation and prayer) and then be honestly and sincerely happy for the other person. Understand that this doesn’t all have to happen in a day. It takes time to go through the process.

Here is a small prayer I wrote that can help with growing the abundance of money, love, and anything in your life:

Lord Apollo, Lord of Light,
grant me the eyes to see that my life is blessed,
even though I am blind to it sometimes.
Show me the blessings in everything.

Lady Venus, Lady of Love,
help my heart open to your eternal love,
and the positive attractive powers of your love,
as love draws all things together.
Show me the way to open my heart more to give away what I wish to receive.

Lord Jupiter, King of Abundance,
guide me to use the light of Apollo and the love of Venus
to attract the abundance of the universe
as you attract and grow, and give eternally.
Show me the way to use my many blessings to achieve my will.

So mote it be.
