The fee is well worth it considering it includes bowling, some snack food, drink specials and a few other perks specific to this event. They are running a silent auction and raffle. Our good friend Chuck Treece has a great interview on magnetmagazine.com. Go read it over at their website. Chuck is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. I don’t think I’ve ever see the dude without a smile on his face. Truly inspirational. (Hat tip to Brad for sending me the link.)

If you were an avid skateboarder in Philly throughout the ’80s and ’90s, it’s pretty likely that one of your heroes was Chuck Treece. He became a professional skateboarder at the age of 20, earning major endorsements and travelling the world for competitions and exhibitions. All the while, Treece was developing into a musician whose skills and devotion have served as an inspiration for countless Philly artists and music lovers over the last 20 years. The jack-of-all-trades musician (Treece plays drums, bass and guitar, all with unquestionable proficiency and passion) boasts a jawdropping resume that could fill hundreds of pages. He played bass on Billy Joel’s “River Of Dreams,” has worked on music for Sting and Amy Grant, slew guitar on the first Roots album and has rocked drums for Bad Brains all over Europe and the Goats at Woodstock ‘94. The legendary skate punk band that he co-founded in 1983, McRad (a name suggested by Hüsker Dü bassist Greg Norton), is still going strong, playing blistering live shows and working on a new record. I caught up with Treece in his Northern Liberties loft, where he was getting ready to work on some tracks that just came in from his old friend Santigold. Video after the jump.

Got word today that our proposed plan to incorporate skateboarding into a currently unused (and rather large) parcel of land under Roosevelt Blvd. (Rt. 1) in the Nicetown section of Philadelphia was approved as part of a larger master plan! It was presented as part of a 2010 redevelopment plan and approved by the Philadelphia Planning Commission. I proposed an initial phase of greening the entire space (not part of our scope) and putting in a super smooth concrete skate path with some benches to draw use to the space. A parallel recycled pedestrian walkway and expansion of the existing community garden (again not our scope) could also be incorporated using partnerships with local organizations invested in each use. After the path is established, it would serve as a backbone for future development, such as skateable sculptures branching off the path or a larger skate plaza in one of the parabolas. Stoked!

Chris Mulhern’s video, “This Time Tomorrow” is premiering tonight at the Troc. Tickets are available at Exit, Nocturnal, and Reign. Exit is also having a huge winter sale starting today, as well as plans to pregame at the shop before heading down to the Troc for the premiere.

Themed around the transition from day to night skating, “This Time Tomorrow” will feature the talent of Devon  Connell, Jimmy McDonald, Curtis Rapp, Dave Caddo, Brendan Granstrand and Will Harmon.  Filming has taken place over the course of 3 years, with almost 9 months spent abroad in such locales as London, Paris, Lyon, Rome, Berlin, Athens, Venice, Trieste and Montreal.  Even so, the majority of the film was shot right here in Philadelphia, a city absent in many of today’s video projects and long forgotten by the industry.  The United Kingdom’s Rory Milanes, Steph Morgan and Lucien Clarke make up nearly half the film and create a strong British presence.  Each of their sections were shot in the streets of London, where short days and long nights make the camera light a must.  Time was also spent in various other locations along the eastern seaboard including Boston, N.Y.C, Washington D.C. and Miami.  Guest appearances in the film include Steve Durante, Brian Douglas, Shaun Williams, John Kroesser, Pat Heid, Jimmy Carr, Daniel Kim, Ricky Geiger, Pat Stiener, Rich Adler, Steve Brandi and many more.  The creators of “Few & Far Between” bring you this new independent film arriving in February of 2010.

At the 2min 45sec mark of this Eastern Exposure clip you can see a bunch of sick tricks that went down at this spot.

Anyone remember when they installed those plastic things that Ricky Oyola sort of pole jammed on it? I thought it was a Vox video and I looked around for a little bit but couldn’t find it. If anyone knows what video that was in, please post in the comments. It was in the first Traffic Video, Via (hat tip: Random Matt).

I stopped by the spot today to get some more pictures as well as shoot the round bar on the other end of the block that Easy mentioned below. It would be a pretty hefty pole jam at ~4′5″ tall.

Focus’s Philly Skate Show is complete and it was a blast. We livestreamed as much as we could and got a few interviews in as well thanks to Nick Zegel. Once I get the archives of the live stream sorted out, I’ll post about it.

Leo Heinert won the mini-ramp contest. Kyle Nicholson got third. I’m not sure who second place was (Sorry). Speaking of Kyle, the first result in a google image search for Kyle Nicholson is a real throwback from 2004 (3rd Lair Damn Am 2004). Wow.

Luis Tolentino won the High Ollie Contest at I believe 41″ or 42″. He tied the record recently in Tampa at 44.5″ but was feeling a bit under the weather and wasn’t able to match that. Nevertheless, that dude has a mean ollie for sure. I have video of the High Ollie Contest that still needs to be captured so stay tuned.
