Last weekend I had the opportunity and pleasure to do some fabulous make-up for the young, dynamic girl-power team of ESEN Online Magazine. We did a fine photo shooting session at the heart of Kuala Lumpur, and my make-up work will be featured in the first issue of ESEN Online Magazine.

Make-up Trends - Sinful red lips are back

Red lips will always have a place in every season but this summer you can wear it anytime and anyplace. The idea is to be bold and exhilarating so choosing a divine red is crucial.

The secret to wearing a strong red is feeling comfortable. In decorating your lips with red, you are calling bold attention to your every pout, bite, lick, frown and smile, so red lips are not for the faint of heart, the shy or the tentative.

But be aware that ruby lips can look so classically amazing as well as absolutely ridiculous. Here some considerations about wearing bold red lips:

Carry a "sinful red mouth" looks best as the focal point. In other words, don't apply tons of other makeup too.
Think about the versatility and many shades of red. A pink-red will appear less audacious for light-skinned women than a blue-red. An orange-red is a bit less brazen for darker skin then say, a violet-red.
Consider lighting: At a romantic evening with candlelight, red lips will appear less bold because of the glow of dimmer lights, and at dusk or on a stormy, gray day, bolder tones appear more muted due to the overcast or darkened sky.
Keep clothing color in mind. Red is wildly vivid when placed against white, less so against gray, and it seems to work very well against black.
Psychologically the color red stays for power and personifies strength, courage, passion, sacrifice and warning. The symbolism is overt: Stop signs are red and a siren flashes red! Sinful and bold red lips is one of the most dramatic ornamental statement a woman can make.

In essence, to carry off a bold red lip, you've got to "walk the walk" and "talk the talk" - You've got to be feeling red!

Make-up Artist & Stylist for new astro PRIMA tv series Dira & Nina

Last week we started with the shooting for a new astro production, a tv series with 15 episodes, each 1 hour long, that will be aired later this year on astro PRIMA (Channel 105).

It's a comedy-like story about Dira and Nina - hence the working title so far Dira & Nina (No teaser online yet).

I am responsible for the make-up & hair styling, as well as the fashion/wardrobe handling. Or in other words, I try to give the actors that special look and appearance that reflects the characters they are playing by applying the right make-up, styling their hair and choosing the proper fashion and accessories for them.

As we are currently shooting outside near the jungle with high humidity and hot temperatures well above 34°C, permanent powder touch-up is necessary to hide the actor's sweat and keep their skin tone matte.

Even there are 30 more shooting days to go, and the start of the tv series Dira & Nina on astro PRIMA channel is still far away, I am already looking forward to see the results of my work - That's one of the very satisfying sides of my job as a make-up artist & stylist, you always see an immediate visual result of your work.

Make-up Tip - How to apply eyeliner

Four basic steps to perfectly apply eyeliner - Your eyes will look bigger and your eyelashes fuller and richer.

	For full lashes and beautiful eyes, firstly apply eyepencil in between your eyelashes. The eyepencil fills in the gaps between your lashes to make them look fuller and richer.
	Tone eyepencil with brush (#102) and apply black gel eyeliner on the eyelid with the same brush. The eyeliner should be as close to the eyelids as possible.
	For a perfect angle at the outer corner of the eye, draw a small dot with your eyeliner to determine where the line should end. Make sure the dots are even on both eyes.
	Use a brighter eyeshadow close to the lashes and a darker eyeshadow in the crease line to make your eyes appear bigger.

Make-up Artist & Stylist for Pierre Andre's Film Suaka

After 20 days intensive film shooting for the upcoming Malaysian film Suaka, we finally had the last scene in the can yesterday evening, and could enjoy the traditional great little wrap party :-)

Suaka (English title: Shaken), is a Malaysian thriller film (ghost movie) directed by Malaysian actor and director Pierre Andre, and produced by Cresendo Productions Sdn Bhd. It will premier later this year in Malaysia's major cinemas. (No teaser or trailer online yet)

Even the last 20 shooting days on sets in and around Kuala Lumpur were long and intensive (and the night shootings sometimes scary), I am glad that I could be part of Pierre Andre's fabulous film crew. I was responsible for make-up and styling, as well as the fashion/wardrobe handling, and involved in the acquisition of make-up and fashion sponsors. Make-up effects for ghost movies are always a big challenge!

A big thank you to the whole film crew and actors, as well as the producers for the excellent organization of the shooting - Hope to see you all again in future film productions.

"I am a make-up artist, I am a painter in my heart, faces are my canvas"

My name is Haneey Brown and I am a professional independent make-up artist & stylist based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

I was born and grew up in East Sabah, one of the two Borneo states of Malaysia. This probably sounds like a detail to you, but it is in fact where I got and still get my inspiration. A lot of people tell me my Borneo roots are reflected in my make-up art, and it is true: Borneo's different tribes & clans, the jungle, the nature, the sea, the dance, the rituals, the costumes, the way of living etc. have indeed a huge influence on me, and are an important source of inspiration.

My "career" didn't start as a make-up artist or with a degree in a college. Out of poverty and being the oldest of a family of 7, I felt the obligation of earning some money to support my family since a young age, and worked for several years during my official school time at a local hair & beauty salon - That's where I learned the basics of make-up & hair style.

But my passion back then was actually dancing, especially traditional Malaysian group dance. I became a professional dancer and later dancing choreographer & art director for traditional Malaysian and South-East Asian dances, and participated in many International competitions and performances, and also won some prices for me and for my country Malaysia.

Over the years more and more dancers, dancing groups and performers were asking me for make-up & creative advice: Can you make-up me? Do you have an idea for a costume design? What should I do with my hair? Can you make my nose look smaller, my lips fuller, give to my eyes that expression of an exotic bird?...

In 2005 I have moved to Kuala Lumpur, Peninsular Malaysia, and now work as a professional independent make-up artist & stylist. What started with dancers and performance artist became more corporate and I can count some pretty well know brands, companies and artists my customers: Make Up Store, Dior & Polo Sport, Astro, Luxasia and some major film and TV producers. But I still enjoy and will never neglect to make private and personal events rememberable and special.
