We have established that for you to make money on the Internet you have to sell something.  There are so many different things that you can sell it would take a book to talk about all of them.

On the Internet you are going to a sell a product that you can hold in your hand  or you’re going to sell a electronic product. For instance a book from a bookstore is something that you hold and an e-book is an electronic product.

I have sold items that you can hold before and still do.  It is a very good stream of income to go along with the others you might have.   Many of the people selling tangible products (products you can hold) sell them on their websites or on sites like eBay and they are quietly making a very good income.

You can sell products that you make, products that you buy wholesale and store somewhere or products that someone drop ships for you.  Drop shipping is where you do not buy the product.  When something is sold you pay wholesale plus shipping for the item and the person you are buying it from ships it from their warehouse to the customer.

If you have a good source of supply from a drop shipper you set up your website with the items you are selling and go to work driving traffic to the site.  No inventory to stock you just work at getting customers.

Drop shipping is a workable business model as long you have someone reliable on the other end that will ship the product quickly.  Amazon is a good example of a drop shipper through there affiliate program.

There is a ton of drop shippers out there that are reliable and there is money quietly being made by people all over the Internet using drop shippers.

Now why did I mention drop shipping when we are mostly talking about information marketing in this blog?  I mentioned it because that is what affiliate marketing is.

Affiliate marketing is nothing but a drop shipping arrangement.  In most cases the drop shipper will even collect the money and send your part to you.  It does not matter if it is a tangible product that you can hold in your hand or intangible like an e-book that you can’t it still works.

Someone else does the work to create the product, makes sure there is a way to collect from customers and delivers the product to them. In many cases they even furnish you with a website to sell the product from.  Then they pay you from the sale.

For someone new to the Internet there is not a better way to get started then selling using a good affiliate program.

Pick the right one and marketing on the Internet can not only make you money but be fun.  Pick the wrong one and you will be scratching your head wondering why it did not work for you.

Here are several things that you should understand. A business on the Internet is still a business. It is no different then the corner market. You have to have something to sell and you have to have people come into the store to buy something.

Your product on the Internet unlike in the corner market can be tangible (something you can hold) or intangible (information). Unlike the corner market on the Internet you have a whole different set of tools to work with.

Even though you have these wonderful tools on the Internet you still have to sell something and have people come in the store. (Traffic to your website)

Without something to sell and traffic no matter what you do you are dead in the water and you are going to wander around spending money trying to figure out why you are not making money.

Have you ever joined a program that talked about how the heavy hitter Guru that you are joining under would put a ton of people into your downline and all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the benefit?

Oh! That sounds so good and you join but when you get into the website you find out to benefit you have to signup 2, 3, or some other number of personal referrals yourself before you can collect anything. Back to traffic and a product.

No matter what you do. Even if you are only an affiliate for other programs and do not have a website or if you do have your own website you are still going to have to generate traffic.

You are going to have to get people to come into your store even if it only has one product in it and not just drive by outside and look at the sign.

I have read and bought many of the programs on the Internet and every one of them to work is based on having traffic.

That leads to a ton of questions such as:

What product is a good one?

How do I get traffic to my site?

What am I doing wrong and a ton of other ones?

That brings up too many questions to cover in this one post. We will cover most of them over the next couple of weeks so stayed tuned.

You can have the best affiliate site or website on the internet and if no one visits it you will not make money. If you have a terrible affiliate site or website and get enough traffic then you will eventually make a sale.

100% of the time when people ask, “What should I do to finally start making money on the Internet?” I find out the reason they are not making money is because of the product or the amount of traffic they are getting to their site.

Now before you start leaving comments about how it is much more complicated then that yes there is a whole lot more to marketing on the Internet but if you do not have a good product and traffic the two basics you are not making anything.

When you join a site it is important that you use all the tools available.  The most overlooked one is the downline builders inside many sites.

One of the first things I have people do is go back and fill in all the information on all the sites that they have joined to generate traffic before we do anything else.  You would be surprised how many people didn’t even bother to fill out the information in their profile so they can get paid much less fill out the downline builder

Why is that important?

When you finally start building your business the right way you are going to have people join your downline in traffic programs. You want them in your downline unless you want to spend the rest of your time on the Internet paying for upgrades to get credits or surfing to get credits to build traffic.  When people in your downline surf, send emails, place text ads and other things they generate credits for you.  Also when people in your downline upgrade they generate cash for you at most sites.

So the more people in your downlines the less you have to surf, freeing time to concentrate on other things.   The goal is to have enough people in your downline that you use the Traffic Exchanges or other programs to take action and to upgrade so that you earn credits and you earn enough to pay for your upgrades.

If you start changing what you have been doing.  Yes, if you have not been making money you have to change what you have been doing.  If you start changing what you are doing you are going to have people joining programs in your downline.

Some of them will read this or have been taught by others to fill in the downline builders.  When they join programs that they are not members of from the downline builders link and your ID is not there they go into someone else’s downline.  So instead of having one person join one program and ending up in four or five other programs in your downline you have one person join your downline and then end up in programs in someone else’s downline.

If you do not fill out the downline builders by default they join in the downline of whichever member of your upline bothered to fill the downline builder out.  Yes your effort builds someone else’s downline and they show up as a direct referral of someone else.

Oh, wait a minute if you fill out your downline builders in the programs that means anyone that is in your downline who doesn’t their referrals have the potential to become referrals. Yes, it does.

So here is your action step and it is a big one.  Take the time to go to the programs you are going to be adding referrals into and be sure you fill out the downline builders before you do any thing else.  If you are going to build a business and traffic you have to use everyone of the tools available.

“Wait a minute”!!!!! You scream.  “Do you know how many programs I joined it would take forever to go back?”

Do a few at a time but stay at it until they are all filled out.

One suggestion if you use Traffic Exchanges and Safelist is to go to Traffic Hoopla http://www.trker.com/go/36021 and Affiliate Funnel http://botipton.com/likes/afunnel.html and sign up for their free accounts.  Then check to see which are the top exchanges and safelist and start using and building them first.

Go back and fill in the downline builders before you add another advertisement anywhere.  Imagine how you are going to feel if you start adding people and then find out that they used the downline builder in the program and joined programs under someone else.

Also, from now on  when you join a program make sure you fill out your profile, downline builder and anything else that is a tool in that program.  If you do not have time to do that then chances are you do not have time to use the program so why are you joining.

Action Step:  Fill out the downline builders in programs you are part of.

I am going to save you a ton of money and time and reveal the secret today right here on this blog to making money on the Internet. Now I apologize before hand because I am going to use the four letter work that most people try not to use.

Okay here goes.  The secret to making money on the Internet is (drum roll) you have to SELL something.  Yep there is that four letter word sell.  I didn’t use market or any other word I cut right to it.  You have to sell something.

It also has to be something that has value.   If you want to continue to make money after the first sale you have to make sure that what you are selling people will be able to use.  If you do you can make money on the Internet for years.  If you don’t sell something that is worth what was paid for it you will have to get very good at setting up fake ID’s on the Internet as people will remember you sold them junk.

You do not have to sell a product that you can hold in your hand it can be information but it has to be worth something.  Not fluff, not information you can find anywhere on the Internet, not information that has just been reworded and put into a different e-book cover but worth something.

Let me give you an example.  People come on the Internet and need to learn how to build websites and much more.  There is a former High School history teacher who now teaches on the Internet called Bob the Teacher (Follow Bob On Twitter).  Bob put together a series of videos on how to work with a website and how to use cpanel.  http://www.trker.com/go/38897/blog.  This is good information and everyone that I know that has bought it thinks it is great.

Remember this it is important; Sell a good product at a fair price and you make money.

Now before you start saying, “Yes, but, but, but I don’t have my own product to sell I just started”.

You do not have to have your own product you can find a worthwhile product that someone else has put together and market it.  It can be an e-book, a video, a training course, a membership website or a ton of other products.  It can even be a product that you hold in your hand that you sell on eBay or elsewhere.

When you sell someone else’s product it is called affiliate marketing.  Someone else did the work to put a good product together and you market it and keep part of the money.

Most people who start out on the Internet will start out as an Affiliate Marketer selling someone else’s products.

It is very, very, very important to pick a good product to market.  There are a few of them out there and we will be talking about them here.  One rule of thumb is if you have not used the product how do you know if it is a good product or not.

That is why you will not find me promoting the next great, best, better then sliced bread and cotton candy product.  I will not promote them because I have not tried them.  If I say it works it does and not because someone else told me it did.  Until I try it I do not promote it.

Okay so you are going to sell your product or someone else’s.  To do that you need two things, targeted traffic to a website that is your own or someone else’s.

Have a good product, lots of targeted traffic and a good converting website and you will make money.  As time goes by we will talk about each of these.

You’re Action Step for Success.  Find three products that you can look someone in the eye and tell them honestly that you know it works.  Don’t know of three then be patient and we will talk about some of them here.

For those of you that wonder why there was a long delay between this post and the last one it is because I am in the process of helping 7 people get control of their Internet Marketing and finally make money.  Getting everything set up took time and we have been waiting for everyone to get caught up to go on to the next step.

You have to be willing to change what you are doing.  If you are marketing and not making money then something has to change.  You keep doing the same thing you are doing no matter how good you get at it and you will still get the same results.  For different results you have to do different things.

You do not have to know how to build websites, work with HTML, write sales copy or anything else you only have to be willing to work and to change what you are doing.

Before we go any further let me answer some of the questions that I have received since the last two posts.

Why am I doing this?

I am doing this for two reasons. Zig Zigler and others say that the more people I help the more I will get what I want out of life. I believe that and that is what this blog is about.  The other reason is that I am smart enough to know that if I help you make money on the Internet you will have move to invest in your business and sooner or later we will do business together.

Can I help you make a million dollars this year?

Of course not! I am teaching you the basic steps to building a business on the Internet. I can only teach you what I have learned. You want to go from zero to 6 or 7 thousand dollars a month I can help you. Once you get there then you can join one of the great coaching programs out there that will teach you how to increase your income even more. . If you are making that much you will have the money to join a coaching program.

This blog is about helping people who are new or newly frustrated because they are not making any money on the Internet.

This is like when I was still teaching English at a University in Texas. I did not teach the advanced English courses. I taught the beginning freshman English courses. You had to take the beginning courses to take the advanced courses. That is what this blog is about, the basic beginning part of making money on the Internet. You get through this and you can go on to the advanced courses.

How do I know what I write here works?

If you go back and read from the beginning of this blog you will find out that I have been on the Internet
making a living for years. I first started out marketing how to information back in the 1970s when we did it by direct mail and newspaper ads long before the Internet.(Yes I am not a young spring chicken I have been around this business awhile)

6 months ago even though I had a good niche Internet business I decided to see if I could build a business
using nothing but free products on the Internet. I did not use any of the contacts I had built up over the years with my niche websites or any of the tools I had accumulated. I tired to do everything as if I was just starting out using nothing but free tools.

Six months later I have built myself another income using free tools (even though they are not really free. Read the last post to find out why they are not free).

Over the last six months I have signed up for every email report, program, e-book or anything else that was free. Yes, I read or tried everything that I received or downloaded.  I now have almost 6 gigs of stuff on my hard drive. Most of it is rehashed fluff but some of it is really good information.

Over the next 30 days I will tell exactly what I did and what works and why. I will also give you detailed instructions on how to use what I found. We will start at the beginning and go from there to be sure you have a good foundation for your Internet business.  I will share everything I have learned over the last six months using free products and everything I have learned since I have been on the Internet.

A quick side note. When I started this experiment 6 months ago I signed up for every Guru’s newsletter
or free report I could find. In the first 30 days if I had bought everything that they sent me I would have spent $12, 849 dollars. That is right I received emails  promoting $12,849 worth of products in 30 days. Each one of them was supposed to be better then sliced bread, was a secret being revealed and many told me how people got rich in a couple of months. No wonder people come on line, spend a ton of money and leave disappointed

I need to pay off my ______ in 30 days if I do what you say can I do it?

Put whatever you want in the box. I had ten emails yesterday alone with basically the same question. You want the truth? The truth depends on you. If you are making nothing right now and do not have a website that is already making you money will you be able to be making $6,000 a month 30 days from now? Not likely! Can it be done? Yes, it is possible.

This is not a get rich scam.  This is work you butt off and build a business plan. It will take time and work. If you do not want to work and are not willing to be persistent and take action then there is nothing that I can do to help you. If you try to follow what I will be showing you for a week and then are going to quit then save yourself time and frustration. Thirty days from now if you do what needs to be done you will be making money.

How much work will this take?

A lot of work! There are no free lunches no matter what you are told! It doesn’t matter if you have a couple of hours a day or all day to work on this it will take time. Naturally the more time you have the quicker your business will start making you money.

If you believe that you can build a business without doing anything but pay a fee to join a program then you will not like what you read here.

Will I have to spend money to do this?

Of course you will. In the beginning you will start off paying for what you do with time instead of money.
As you start earning money you will invest back into your business. Many of the programs that you will join will have upgrades that will make your business grow faster and it will only make sense to invest in them.

Also there are people that offer paid training to help you learn faster and I will be recommending some of them to you. In the beginning for the most part you are going to start with free products and invest as you grow.

What about the places that you recommend, do they work and will they help me?

I am only going to recommend the things that I know will help you build your business. Your will not hear
from me about the next best, greatest, wonderful launch. Why? If it is brand new I have not tried it yet. If I have not tried it I will not tell you about it.

So in a nutshell this takes time and work. If you will follow each step at the end of thirty days you will be making money. Do not skip any step. Do not bypass what you do not like or think will take to much work.

For things to change you have to change. It is insanity to expect for things to change when you keep doing the same things that you have always done. If it has not been working for you there is not a magic wand to wave to make it work.  You have to change what you are doing.

Action step for today!

1. If you did what was on the last post you should have a list of programs you have joined in the past. Go to each one of those programs that have a downline builder in it. A downline builder is where you put your affiliate ID in so that people who join after you will join under you.

a. At each program make sure you have filled out the downline builder. In the downline builder if there is a program you have not joined and it is a program that cost money to join do not join it yet. If the program in the downline builder is a program that you can join for free and you have not joined it do so. Go to each program and check for a downline builder and if there is one fill it out.

b. If you do not fill it out and someone joins under you then you have helped your upline build their business. If you affiliate ID is not in the program and your referral joins one of the programs in the downline builder then the referral goes to your upline not you. Over the next 30 days you will have people joining programs under you.

c. Downline Builders are a free tool take advantage of it. I know some of you have joined a ton of programs but like I said it is going to be work.

d. Do not delete any accounts at programs you joined to save work. Some of them you might get rid of later but for now just fill out the downline builders.

e. Here is a tip to help you save time. When you go to the first program with a downline builder open up a word processing document. When you go find your affiliate ID to copy and paste into the downline builder also paste it into the text document with your full affiliate URL. Make sure you put the name of the program with the URL in the text document. When you go to the next program you will not have to look up the affiliate IDs as they will be right there in the text document. After you get through save the document in your documents under a new folder named New Internet. That way the next time you get ready to fill in your affiliate ID somewhere it is easy to look up. We will be using the folder New Internet over the next 30 days. If you have any questions or do not understand these instructions email me and I will work with you to get it done. There are two free e-books I want you to read to start with. That way when we talk about things we will have some of the same information.

The first one is a book by Jon Olson. It talks about how to budget your money while building your business among other things. Read it and take notes. In the last post I said I had found out that you can build a business using free tools, software, e-books and other items.  Yes you can start out with no money and over time build an Internet Marketing Business.

The thing to remember is that even though it is called free it is not free.   You can invest your money and if you have a good road map build you a business.  You can also invest your time using tools that you do not have to pay for with money to build your business

You must understand though you are still investing in your business.  Instead of investing money you are investing time.  Nothing is free no matter what it says.

As we go through this I will be showing you ways that you can build your business with very little out of pocket expense.  I will not show you how to build a business without spending any money because you are not going to be able to do that.

At some point and time you are going to invest money in your business but you want to invest money that you have already earned using the methods we will be covering not money from your pocket.

A good rule of thumb is if you money in your PayPal or Alert Pay account that you have earned then it is okay to invest it.  If you don’t have money you earned then don’t invest unless it is an absolute necessity.

Later on you will also be investing money in your education.  You have to learn how to be an effective marketer and some of the training will cost you. No, you will not pay me but there is some training I will recommend that you do have to pay for.

If you find something you want real bad then earn the money to pay for it.

Do not ever, ever, ever, ever, invest money that you need to pay the rent, buy food, and pay the mortgage or any other of life’s necessities.

You are starting a business to make money and get out of a hole or get away from a job (job stands for just over broke) not to help you go broke.  Remember that, it is important.

As we go through this I am going to be referring you to websites with a lot of good information.  Why do I refer you somewhere elsewhere?  Because there is a ton of information out there that will help you learn what you need to learn.  Why would I want to redo what has already been done.

Will I make money referring you somewhere else?  Sometimes yes, but not always.  If I think it will help you even though I do not make a penny off of it I will still tell you about it.

With that said and hopefully understood then let’s get started.

First thing you needed to do is what was mentioned in the last post.

“Write down why you are building an Internet business.”  Here is a good place to go to see what other people are putting down for their WHY.

Read the comments and you will see what other people or wanting to do and maybe it will help you focus on your why.  To make more money is not a why. If you make a penny you have made more money.

The second step, for the next thirty days do not buy anything unless you know exactly how it will help you make money within the next thirty days.  No buying the next greatest most wonderful super secret from a millionaire broke deep sea diver that will make you money while you sleep launch.

The third step, go through the emails you are receiving that you signed up to so that you could get a free whatever and the ones that are just sales letters and not giving you useful information, UNSUBSCRIBE from them.

The fourth step is to go through your hard drive and bookmarks and list every e-book (with a note beside the brand able e-books, if you don’t know what a brand able e-book is we will talk about it) every affiliate site you joined and every traffic program you are part of.

Am I Going To Help You Pay The Mortgage That Is Due Next Week

No of course not.  There are no instant businesses in a box here.  This will take work and time.  If you will make a commitment to follow the road map I put up here in 30 days you will have money coming into your account.  How much and where you go from there is entirely up to you.

Will I Teach You How To Make A Million Dollars Next Year

No, I will not.  If I made a million dollars last year I guarantee you that I would not be posting here on this blog.  I would be paying someone to do it for me.  The only thing I can teach you is what I have done and know how to do.  I can teach you how to make money on the Internet.  I can also teach you how to make 5,000 to 10,000 a month each month on the Internet.  If you are already making that much each month then you don’t want to listen to me.  If you are not making that much then I can help you.

Will You Teach Me How To Make Money Without Working

Of course not.  Anyone that tells that building a business on the Internet is not work and that it does not take time is lying to you.  If you think there is a program out their that you can join and without working, recruiting or anything else make money because you are in a downline under someone who is a heavy hitter you are destined to lose a lot of money.

Something for nothing does not exist.  Again there are no free lunches.

Put anything in the blank you want to.  If you are old, young, broke, sick, tall, short or whatever if you are willing to work and learn you can with time build a business on the Internet

All I Know How To Do Is Turn On The Computer And Check Emails Can I Still Do This

I was an adult selling information by Direct Mail before Computers ever came along.  When I was growing up an Internet would have been a fishing net inside something.  If someone with no computer knowledge like I had when I started can do this anyone can.

It takes three things.

1. You have to be willing to work
2. You have to be willing to learn
3. You have to be willing to do what you say you will

If you are looking to start building a business, want step by step help and are willing to learn you are at the right place.

If you know everything there is to know about building a business then you need to not waste your time here because you will not like what I say or teach.

Normally when you sign up for the “free” tools you are going to get several never before offered and will never be seen again great wonderful buy it now offers before you get to the free tool.  That is fine and is part of marketing.

The “free” tools will not have all the bells and whistles of the paid version but it will still work.

You are also going to be on the person giving you the “free” tool’s mailing list.  Now some of the mailing list are actually good list to be on.  There are some of them with good content that will help you build your business.

Many of the emails you receive have more ads then a television program.  Most of them are nothing more then sales letters offering the next greatest, wonderful, secret method to get rich in 90 days.

Once again the tool is not free because you are going to be paying to use the tool with your time.  You are still paying just paying with time instead of money.

So we call the tools free but they still cost something.

No matter how you your build your business it will take time, using “free tools” just takes longer.  When you do not have money to invest in building your business it is okay.

If you do not have money to invest in your business start from where you are to get where you want to be.

You cannot leave Dallas, Texas to go to California and start in New Mexico if you are in Dallas.  It doesn’t work.

Now to answer the question are the Internet Gurus lying?  Can you build an Internet business using “free” tools?

No, not really just kidding.

The answer to, “Can you build an Internet business using “free” tools?” is Yes and No.

I can hear the moans all the way over here in Kentucky.  What do I mean yes and no?  Yes, you can build an Internet business using free tools.  The Internet Gurus were not lying.

Yes, it will take a little longer but it will work.

For instance, one of my favorite places to get traffic to my sites is traffic exchanges.  If you join as a free member in most cases you are going to have to surf 3 times as many sites to get the same amount of traffic a paid member would surfing.  What a paid member would do in 15 minutes would take you 30 minutes to do the same thing

The Internet Gurus didn’t lie they just didn’t tell you the whole story.  They tell you the story about how a construction worker made $100,000 in 90 days but leave out the part that it took him two years to get to the point where he could do that.

As your business grows and money starts to come in you are going to have to invest part of it in your business.  It is a fact of life you are going to have to invest in your business.  As you invest profits in your business it will take you less time to do the same thing.

The good thing is starting with free tools you can invest what you earn from your business back into your business.  That is much better then maxing out the credit cards and emptying the bank account.

The answer is also NO.

You cannot build a business using free tools.  You can have a hard drive full of free tools and they will make you nothing unless you have a game plan.

You have to know where you are going with your business before you start.

You cannot be in Dallas, Texas and head east and expect to get to California.  You can eventually get to California going east but you are going to have to go a long ways to get there.

I get emails everyday from people who have tried building a business without a plan.

They have tried a new great and wonderful program, and that didn’t work so they tried the nest great and wonderful program which didn’t work.  They spent more time signing up for programs then they did following their non existent game plane and wondered why it did not work.  They ended up back where they started from with an empty wallet.

It would be much better if you knew which way to go before you started out.  Do your research, find something that you can believe in to market, learn how to use the tools, focus on building one thing at a time, and control your time, along with other factors we will talk about in future post.

If you focus and follow your plan yes, you can build a business using “free” tools.

Okay here is step one.  Don’t skip this step it is important.  Write down exactly how much you need to make a month in your Internet Business and what the money is for.  It does not matter if it is enough to pay your utility bills or enough to replace a six figure income.  Write it down.  Know where you are going before you leave.

No writing down,”More money” that is not an answer.  You write down more money and when you make a dollar you have reached your goal.

Also writing down, “As much as I can” is not an answer.

How can you decide what to market or what type of business you want to build if you do not how much you need to make.  If you need $200 a month to pay a bill then marketing a product that only pays a couple of dollars a month, like referrals to a traffic exchange, is pretty simple.  If you need $20,000 a month then that is a whole different story.

Know before you go.

Sometimes I wondered if it’s all worth it.

Then with the help of what I learned I started to get control of my time and to stay focused on the important things.  At the end of the day when I looked to see what I did to build my business there were more and more things I got accomplished.  I was doing the important things finally.

My business started to grow and as my business started to grow I got better at managing my time.  As I got better at managing my time my business grew even more.  I learned how to focus on what is important.

Once I understood what I was doing wrong I looked around and saw that there were many good people on the Internet working their hearts out trying to build a business and getting the same results I used to, very little.  They were just as frustrated as I was.

I decided to write down what I had learned and to give it away to people to help them finally get control of their business.  Help them to start making money no matter what they were promoting or building on the Internet.
