Because Not All Good Tacos Live on Cherokee Street

There was a time when West County was a taco desert. Not anymore.

These days, you’ve got options—from foil-wrapped al pastor served with nothing but onions, cilantro and heat… to upscale creations that show up with crema drizzles, pickled veggies, and a side of “this pairs well with mezcal.”

I’m not here to say one kind of taco is better than the other. I’m just here to point out that we finally have both in West County—and that’s a beautiful thing.

Whether you’re into carnitas on a plastic plate or short rib on a stoneware platter, this list has you covered.

Is it exhaustive? Not even close. But it’s real. These are the places I’ve actually eaten at, actually liked, and would actually recommend to a friend who says, “Where should I get tacos around here?”

Let’s get into the Best Tacos in West County STL

1. Mi Lupita – Ballwin

No-frills, authentic, and wildly underrated. The tacos al pastor are the star here—crispy edges, just enough heat, and that pineapple bite that hits just right. The new, larger location at the corner of Manchester and Holloway only makes this place better.

What to order: Tacos al pastor or the lengua if you’re brave (and you should be).
Why go: Mi Lupita feels like the kind of place that’s always been there—and will outlive us all.

2. El Toluco – Manchester

El Toluco is tucked inside a Mexican grocery store, which is already a good sign. The tacos are cheap, fast, and straight-up fantastic. Bonus: They do their own tortillas.

What to order: Barbacoa tacos. Add a Mexican Coke and thank me later.
Why go: It’s the closest thing to a Mexico City street stand this side of 270.

3. Malinche – Ellisville

Modern, inventive, and stylish without trying too hard. Malinche is where you go when you want tacos with a side of mezcal and maybe a second date. They’re doing creative spins on classics—and pulling it off. Maybe the best tacos in west county STL, but I prefer the first to a little more.

What to order: The chorizo and potato tacos or anything off the seasonal menu.
Why go: Elevated without being pretentious. Great food, killer cocktails, and a legit atmosphere.

4. Casa de Tres Reyes – Des Peres

If you’re looking for a spot that balances atmosphere with authenticity, Casa de Tres Reyes delivers. It’s the kind of place that works for a casual Tuesday night or a last-minute “let’s go somewhere nicer” date. Think dim lighting, warm wood, a great tequila list—and tacos that hold their own.

The birria tacos are the showstopper here. Rich, tender beef folded into crispy, cheese-lined tortillas, served with a side of consomé for dipping. It’s messy in the best way. They’ve also got creative takes on carnitas, shrimp, and even a solid veggie option if that’s your thing.

What to order: Birria tacos with consomé. Or the carnitas if you’re not into dipping but still want to leave happy.
Why go: Upscale ambiance, attentive service, and a menu that doesn’t phone it in. Plus, they’ve got one of the better tequila selections in West County if you’re into sipping, not just shooting back the best tacos in west county STL.

5. La Tejana Taqueria – Bridgeton (Worth the Drive)

Yes, it’s technically outside West County—but it’s also arguably the best taqueria in the metro. No cheese, no lettuce, no shortcuts. Just meat, tortilla, salsa. Perfection. One of my goals for this site is to highlight great stuff beyond west county, and this one fits the bill to a T.

What to order: Suadero or tripa tacos.
Why go: This is where people who know tacos go. You’ll be the only non-regular for about five minutes.

There’s no shortage of places to grab a cup of coffee in St. Louis—but if you’re in West County and want something better than another burnt drive-thru latte, this list’s for you.

These are the shops that roast with purpose, serve with care, and make you want to sit down and stay a while.
No national chains. No corporate blandness. Just real-deal local coffee, brewed by people who actually care.

1. Rosemary Coffee Co. – Twin Oaks

The new kid on the block—and already one of the best. Rosemary was opened by two best friends who wanted to build a cozy, community-driven space. Mission accomplished.

What to order: A latte made with house-made syrup, or a cup of loose-leaf tea from their carefully curated local selection.

Why go: It’s got the warm, small-town feel Twin Oaks didn’t even know it needed—and there’s even a lending library if you want to sip, read, and pretend the outside world doesn’t exist for a little while.

If you want to support a place built with heart—and snag a great coffee while you’re at it—this is your new go-to.

2. The Wolf – Ballwin

Equal parts café, coffeehouse, and live music venue, The Wolf is what you get when a neighborhood spot decides to go all in on personality. Rustic. Lively. Local.

What to order: The cold brew or a turmeric latte if you’re feeling adventurous.
Why go: Because you want strong coffee, a chill vibe, and maybe a little acoustic guitar in the background while you sip.

3. Kaldi’s Coffee – Chesterfield

Yes, Kaldi’s is the most “known” name on this list—but it’s local, and it still does things right. Their Chesterfield location has great natural light, plenty of seating, and a reliably good cup.

What to order: Honey almond milk latte or the Nitro cold brew.
Why go: Great for catching up with friends or getting some work done without losing your mind.

4. Sump Coffee – South City STL (Bonus Pick)

Out of the West County bubble, but totally worth the trip. Sump takes its coffee as seriously as some people take fantasy football leagues. It’s precise, minimal, and all about the bean.

What to order: Single-origin espresso or a pour-over if you’ve got time to savor it.
Why go: You’ll learn something. About coffee. About yourself. Possibly about the limits of caffeine tolerance.

First Watch

Yes, it’s a chain, and normally that’s a dealbreaker for me. But it’s a chain that knows how to deliver brunch without making you feel like you’re eating in a mall.

What to order: The trifecta—Avocado Toast, Million Dollar Bacon, and the Morning Meditation juice. Trust me.

Why it makes the list:
It’s fast, fresh, and feels a little healthier than the usual gut-bombs. Plus, the service is always on point.

Joey B’s

If you want classic St. Louis-style brunch in a place where everyone’s talking over each other in a good way, Joey B’s is your spot.

What to order: The Breakfast Slinger, a Bloody Mary the size of your head, or one of the daily specials if you’re feeling adventurous.

Why it makes the list:
It’s local, it’s unpretentious, and it’s the kind of place where brunch still feels like a weekend event—not a social media performance. Big portions, decent prices, and that familiar STL buzz.

Bonus Pick: Bowood by Niche (Central West End)

Technically not in West County—but let’s not pretend we don’t leave the bubble for brunch every now and then. Especially one this good.

What to order: The cacio e pepe eggs, a soft scramble with pecorino & black pepper, sourdough toast, and a mixed greens salad. And grab a cocktail—you’re not driving yet.

Why it makes the list:
Because everything about Bowood feels thoughtful—from the seasonal menu to the interior that looks like someone stole it from Architectural Digest. Plus, it’s connected to a plant shop, so you can leave brunch slightly buzzed and with a succulent you’ll forget to water.
