<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f32e.png" alt="🌮" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Because Not All Good Tacos Live on Cherokee Street</h2>

<p>There was a time when West County was a taco desert. Not anymore.</p>

<p>These days, you’ve got options—from foil-wrapped al pastor served with nothing but onions, cilantro and heat&#8230; to upscale creations that show up with crema drizzles, pickled veggies, and a side of “this pairs well with mezcal.”</p>

<p>I’m not here to say one kind of taco is better than the other. I’m just here to point out that <strong>we finally have both</strong> in West County—and that’s a beautiful thing.</p>

<p>Whether you&#8217;re into carnitas on a plastic plate or short rib on a stoneware platter, this list has you covered.</p>

<p>Is it exhaustive? Not even close. But it&#8217;s real. These are the places I’ve actually eaten at, actually liked, and would actually recommend to a friend who says, “Where should I get tacos around here?”</p>

<p>Let’s get into the Best Tacos in West County STL</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 id="#mi-lupita"><strong>1. Mi Lupita – Ballwin</strong></h2>

<p>No-frills, authentic, and wildly underrated. The tacos al pastor are the star here—crispy edges, just enough heat, and that pineapple bite that hits just right. The new, larger location at the corner of Manchester and Holloway only makes this place better. </p>

<p><strong>What to order:</strong> Tacos al pastor or the lengua if you’re brave (and you should be).<br><strong>Why go:</strong> <a href="https://www.milupitaballwin.com/" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.milupitaballwin.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mi Lupita</a> feels like the kind of place that’s always been there—and will outlive us all.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 id="#el-toluco"><strong>2. El Toluco – Manchester</strong></h2>

<p><a href="https://www.eltolucotaqueria.com/" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.eltolucotaqueria.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">El Toluco</a> is tucked inside a Mexican grocery store, which is already a good sign. The tacos are cheap, fast, and straight-up fantastic. Bonus: They do their own tortillas.</p>

<p><strong>What to order:</strong> Barbacoa tacos. Add a Mexican Coke and thank me later.<br><strong>Why go:</strong> It’s the closest thing to a Mexico City street stand this side of 270.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 id="malinche"><strong>3. Malinche – Ellisville</strong></h2>

<p>Modern, inventive, and stylish without trying too hard. <a href="https://www.malinchestl.com/" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.malinchestl.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Malinche</a> is where you go when you want tacos with a side of mezcal and maybe a second date. They’re doing creative spins on classics—and pulling it off. Maybe the best tacos in west county STL, but I prefer the first to <em>a little more</em>.</p>

<p><strong>What to order:</strong> The chorizo and potato tacos or anything off the seasonal menu.<br><strong>Why go:</strong> Elevated without being pretentious. Great food, killer cocktails, and a legit atmosphere.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 id="#casa-de-tres-reyes"><strong>4.  Casa de Tres Reyes – Des Peres</strong></h2>

<p>If you’re looking for a spot that balances atmosphere with authenticity, <a href="https://casadetresreyes.com/" data-type="link" data-id="https://casadetresreyes.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Casa de Tres Reyes</a> delivers. It&#8217;s the kind of place that works for a casual Tuesday night or a last-minute “let’s go somewhere nicer” date. Think dim lighting, warm wood, a great tequila list—and tacos that hold their own.</p>

<p>The birria tacos are the showstopper here. Rich, tender beef folded into crispy, cheese-lined tortillas, served with a side of consomé for dipping. It’s messy in the best way. They’ve also got creative takes on carnitas, shrimp, and even a solid veggie option if that’s your thing.</p>

<p><strong>What to order:</strong> Birria tacos with consomé. Or the carnitas if you’re not into dipping but still want to leave happy.<br><strong>Why go:</strong> Upscale ambiance, attentive service, and a menu that doesn’t phone it in. Plus, they’ve got one of the better tequila selections in West County if you&#8217;re into sipping, not just shooting back the best tacos in west county STL.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 id="#la-tejana""><strong>5. La Tejana Taqueria – Bridgeton</strong> <em>(Worth the Drive)</em></h2>

<p>Yes, it’s technically outside West County—but it’s also arguably the best taqueria in the metro. No cheese, no lettuce, no shortcuts. Just meat, tortilla, salsa. Perfection. One of my goals for this site is to highlight great stuff beyond west county, and this one fits the bill to a T.</p>

<p><strong>What to order:</strong> Suadero or tripa tacos.<br><strong>Why go:</strong> This is where people who know tacos go. You’ll be the only non-regular for about five minutes.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f32e.png" alt="🌮" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> That’s My Taco Lineup</h2>

<p>I think these are the best tacos in west county STL, but if yu&#8217;ve got a go-to taco spot in Wildwood, Chesterfield Valley, or hidden behind a gas station somewhere, I want to know about it.<br><a class="" href="https://gregbussmann.com/contact">Drop me a line here</a>—I might just add it to the next list.</p>

<p>And if you&#8217;re into this kind of local obsession, <a class="">sign up for the newsletter</a>. New picks every Friday, straight from the belly of West County.</p>

<p>There’s no shortage of places to grab a cup of coffee in St. Louis—but if you’re in <strong>West County</strong> and want something better than another burnt drive-thru latte, this list’s for you.</p>

<p>These are the shops that roast with purpose, serve with care, and make you want to sit down and stay a while.<br><strong>No national chains. No corporate blandness. Just real-deal local coffee, brewed by people who actually care.</strong></p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="rosemary"><strong>1. Rosemary Coffee Co. – Twin Oaks</strong></h2>

<p>The new kid on the block—and already one of the best. <a href="https://www.google.com/search?q=Rosemary+coffee&amp;num=10&amp;sca_esv=1568361547b35126&amp;sxsrf=AHTn8zrhj9GL0ulPqwcw0YV1TjBM8sOO5Q%3A1745251142004&amp;ei=RWsGaMX2PMSq5NoPr_frqQ0&amp;ved=0ahUKEwiFrfOSv-mMAxVEFVkFHa_7OtUQ4dUDCBA&amp;uact=5&amp;oq=Rosemary+coffee&amp;gs_lp=Egxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAiD1Jvc2VtYXJ5IGNvZmZlZTILEAAYgAQYkQIYigUyBRAAGIAEMgoQABiABBgUGIcCMgUQABiABDIFEAAYgAQyBRAAGIAEMgUQABiABDIFEAAYgAQyBRAAGIAEMgUQABiABEi_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&amp;sclient=gws-wiz-serp#:~:text=Rosemary%20Coffee%20Co,www.rosemarycoffeeco.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rosemary</a> was opened by two best friends who wanted to build a cozy, community-driven space. Mission accomplished.</p>

<p><strong>What to order:</strong> A latte made with house-made syrup, or a cup of loose-leaf tea from their carefully curated local selection.</p>

<p><br><strong>Why go:</strong> It’s got the warm, small-town feel Twin Oaks didn’t even know it needed—and there’s even a lending library if you want to sip, read, and pretend the outside world doesn’t exist for a little while.</p>

<p>If you want to support a place built with heart—and snag a great coffee while you’re at it—this is your new go-to.</p>

<p><strong>What to order:</strong> The cold brew or a turmeric latte if you’re feeling adventurous.<br><strong>Why go:</strong> Because you want strong coffee, a chill vibe, and maybe a little acoustic guitar in the background while you sip.</p>

<p><strong>What to order:</strong> Honey almond milk latte or the Nitro cold brew.<br><strong>Why go:</strong> Great for catching up with friends or getting some work done without losing your mind.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><em>According to a Local Who’s Eaten Way Too Much French Toast</em></h2>

<p>There’s no shortage of places to get eggs and overpriced mimosas in St. Louis—but if you live in West County, you know that not every brunch is worth putting on pants for.</p>

<p>After living in the area for nearly 30 years—and eating more than my fair share of pancakes “for research purposes”—I’ve narrowed it down to three standouts that consistently deliver the goods. Let’s dig in.</p>

<figure>
<img decoding="async" width="1031" height="620" class="gb-media-32ee7ab8" src="https://gregbussmann.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot-2025-04-18-at-12.13.18-AM.jpg" title="Screenshot 2025-04-18 at 12.13.18 AM" alt="best brunch West County STL" srcset="http://gregbussmann.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot-2025-04-18-at-12.13.18-AM.jpg 1031w, http://gregbussmann.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot-2025-04-18-at-12.13.18-AM-300x180.jpg 300w, http://gregbussmann.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot-2025-04-18-at-12.13.18-AM-1024x616.jpg 1024w, http://gregbussmann.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Screenshot-2025-04-18-at-12.13.18-AM-768x462.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1031px) 100vw, 1031px" />

<figcaption class="gb-text">Brunch options at the Shack</figcaption>
</figure>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f947.png" alt="🥇" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <strong>The Shack</strong></h3>

<p>If you’ve never had breakfast in a place where the walls are covered in Sharpie graffiti and the menu reads like a dad joke competition, you haven’t lived.</p>

<p><strong>What to order:</strong> “Make a Grown Man Cry” (breakfast tacos with chorizo and chipotle aioli) or the Captain Crunch French toast if you’re feeling bold.</p>

<p><strong>Why it makes the list:</strong><br>Because sometimes you want your brunch with a side of irreverence. <a href="https://www.eatatshack.com/" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.eatatshack.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Shack</a> is loud, busy, borderline ridiculous—and consistently awesome.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f948.png" alt="🥈" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <strong>First Watch</strong></h3>

<p>Yes, <a href="https://firstwatch.com/" data-type="link" data-id="https://firstwatch.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">it’s a chain</a>, and normally that&#8217;s a dealbreaker for me. But it’s a chain that knows how to deliver brunch without making you feel like you’re eating in a mall.</p>

<p><strong>What to order:</strong> The trifecta—Avocado Toast, Million Dollar Bacon, and the Morning Meditation juice. Trust me.</p>

<p><strong>Why it makes the list:</strong><br>It’s fast, fresh, and feels a little healthier than the usual gut-bombs. Plus, the service is always on point.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f949.png" alt="🥉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <strong>Joey B’s</strong></h3>

<p>If you want <em>classic St. Louis-style brunch</em> in a place where everyone’s talking over each other in a good way, <a href="https://www.joeybsmanchester.com/brunch" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.joeybsmanchester.com/brunch" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joey B’s</a> is your spot.</p>

<p><strong>What to order:</strong> The Breakfast Slinger, a Bloody Mary the size of your head, or one of the daily specials if you&#8217;re feeling adventurous.</p>

<p><strong>Why it makes the list:</strong><br>It’s local, it’s unpretentious, and it’s the kind of place where brunch still feels like a weekend event—not a social media performance. Big portions, decent prices, and that familiar STL buzz.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f501.png" alt="🔁" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <strong>Bonus Pick: Bowood by Niche (Central West End)</strong></h3>

<p>Technically not in West County—but let’s not pretend we don’t leave the bubble for brunch every now and then. Especially one this good.</p>

<p><strong>What to order:</strong> The <em>cacio e pepe eggs</em>, a soft scramble with pecorino &amp; black pepper, sourdough toast, and a mixed greens salad. And grab a cocktail—you’re not driving yet.</p>

<p><strong>Why it makes the list:</strong><br>Because everything about <a href="https://www.bowoodbyniche.com/" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.bowoodbyniche.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bowood</a> feels thoughtful—from the seasonal menu to the interior that looks like someone stole it from Architectural Digest. Plus, it’s connected to a plant shop, so you can leave brunch slightly buzzed <em>and</em> with a succulent you’ll forget to water. </p>

<p>Also, you&#8217;ll need a reservation.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f373.png" alt="🍳" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> That’s My List—What’s Yours?</h2>

<p>Have a local favorite I missed? Got a hidden gem in Wildwood or a diner in Des Peres that deserves love?<br><a class="" href="https://gregbussmann.com/contact">Shoot me a message</a>. I might just include it in the next round.</p>
