If you’re looking for a gentle, no frills, vegan, sulfate free, unscented soap that’s also reasonably priced, this soap is right for you. True Body soap is made with only five basic ingredients and its unscented which makes it ideal for those with chemical sensitivities. Its also great for dry skin, dry weather or dry winter skin, and as a simple natural baby soap.

What I love about this soap is that not only is it long lasting, but it also lathers quite well due to the coconut oil content.

When not trying to harness the power of Twitter (@brettlindenberg) he enjoys watching Brett Farve be a Viking.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Batteries are the unappreciated purveyors of our connectivity obsessed society. We use them to power up our vehicles which enables us to travel long distances, on our wristwatches to be able to tell the time of day, on our laptops which allows us to use our precious computers even if there is no electrical power source, etc. Hey, we even use it on our cell phones which have become a necessity nowadays. Indeed, there is no denying that these batteries have made our lives easier. Let’s face it; we just can’t live without them.

The progress of technology has increased the demand for these batteries. There was a time when we only needed them for a number of tools and appliances that can be found in a typical home. A lot has changed since then. Now, the use of these batteries have increased to such an alarming rate that it has become a global concern.

There is a social responsibility attached to the use of household batteries. Batteries contain heavy metals that are harmful to the environment and to human beings. Improper disposal may lead to the contamination of our environment and cause harmful effects to us. Concerned groups and organizations have acknowledged the damaging effects of these heavy metals and how it could affect us in the future. It has paved the way for new laws to be passed in some areas of the world. How should we properly dispose of these batteries? Let us start with what we are not supposed to do.

Don’t:

• Do not keep dead batteries in battery compartments. A dead battery is a useless battery.
Delaying the disposal of these batteries may lead to leaks which are harmful if a person
comes into direct contact with the leak.
• Do not dispose batteries in the trash.
• Do not expose batteries to open flames. It may cause it to explode.
• Do not attempt to disassemble a battery. Doing so might expose you to its harmful
contents.

Do:

• Follow the instructions printed on the battery packaging or the battery itself.
• See if your local store is a drop-off point for used batteries. Some stores are designated
drop-off point’s set-up to collect the batteries. They in turn bring it to a proper battery
disposal/recycling facility.
• Check-out local laws on proper battery disposal. Chances are they have a program set-up
for this.

If you live in the U.S., please visit http://www.batteryrecycling.com/. They recycle all battery types anywhere in the country.

Let’s do what we can to help save the environment by disposing our batteries the right way.

This years topic for Blog Action Day 2009 is Climate Change. I admit, I had a hard time knowing what to write at first, but because this is such a poignant subject, it doesn’t feel right to keep quiet.

This years topic for Blog Action Day 2009 is Climate Change. I admit, I had a hard time knowing what to write at first, but because this is such a poignant subject, it doesn’t feel right to keep quiet.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

As word citizens do we think about climate change, whats causing it, and what we can do to reverse it or at least slow it down? Depending on where we live, our lifestyle, what we read, what we watch and the company we keep, we may not really think and reflect on climate change as much as we should . When the weather is unusually hot, cold, too much rain, not enough rain, wild fires and so on, we then blame it on global warming or climate change. And when the subject comes up in the media, think about it…a little. When it comes up in our minds, are we moved enough to make the necessary changes in our lives to help curtail climate change?

There are so many distractions that come up in our daily lives that easily distracts us from what’s going on. Personally, health care has been on my mind quite a bit. In addition to what’s been discussed in the media for the past several months, I am facing my own challenges when it comes to health and the health insurance industry. When we are faced with these everyday challenges such as the cost and accessibility of health care, or anything else that can easily take over our lives, the health of the planet usually takes a back seat. When its not in the forefront of our minds, we are less likely to make even the smallest changes in our lives.

My question is, how do we keep climate change in the forefront of our minds when we are already dealing with so much on a day-to-day basis? How do we keep in it our minds long enough to make the necessary changes in our individual lives? I know my readers will have a lot of great ideas and suggestion and I would love to hear them!

I know it been a while, but I would like to introduce my new Green and Chic website!

Sophia Lindsay of SoLi Design Studios is the brains and muscle behind the new design, layout and feel. My vision was to have a more user friendly web store while keeping the same eCommerce platform (which makes my life easier).

Though the site is always a work in progress and never “complete”, I am very happy with the new design. Its been almost a year since the launch of Green and Chic and I have been itching for a new look for months. Its almost like keeping the same wardrobe or hairstyle for over a decade, and you’re craving for a change as you grow as a person and your life changes.

Sophia was my personal shopper, esthetician, and hair stylist. When looking for someone to design or redesign your website, its very much like looking for someone to help you put together your wardrobe. You are searching for someone with experience, that has a good eye, knows the definition of practicality and can work within your budget.

During the process, Sophia always laid out exactly what she wanted to do, the reasons why and asked for my input before making a move. Whenever I had questions (and I had tons), she was very patient with me. I was able to see every update and change she made to the test site as they occurred. Her scheduling and billing process was seamless and easy to understand.

Over the past couple of years, I realized how difficult to find a web designer that fits some of qualities we look for. I’m glad my search is over.

This blog is next!

Besides actually cleaning my home, I am always looking for new ways to freshen the air I breathe. Most commercial air fresheners contains perfumes, artificial fragrances, phthalates and other chemicals which we know are toxic and can be harmful to our health.

At an industry trade show back in March, I ran into the Ecodiscoveries booth. Besides a wide variety of cleaning products for the home, they make a biodegradable, non-toxic air and fabric deodorizer. I picked up a large sample of the Airzyme with the intention to try it out at the hotel I was staying at. Somehow, it got lost in the collection of products I picked up during the three days I was at the show. It was missing in action until I found it again months later when I was preparing to move.

Unlike most air fresheners that simply cover odors with other odors, this is fragrance free. Its also free of petroleum, ammonia, glycol, chlorine, phosphate, animal products and dyes. It contains natural enzymes that’s said to eliminate common household odors. Of course, I was skeptical because I’m used to using air fresheners that contain essential oils that help in neutralizing and covering odors.

The first time I used it, it was after cooking and I wanted to “neutralize” the kitchen a bit. I must say when I was done, most of the odors were eliminated. The “smell” left behind is very neutral and you wouldn’t know anything was used. According to Ecodiscoveries, you can use this in your home, car and office for pet, cigarette, sneaker, waste container odors, fabric, carpeting, pet bedding and so much more.

This product is a winner in my book!

From what I’ve read, “post scrapping” is when someone steals your blog post or web content, put it on their website and try to pass it off as their own work. Vered of MomGrind brought this issue to our attention a few months ago when she wrote about her experience. A few other bloggers I follow also have had similar experiences.

I didn’t think the issue stealing content off a blog or website can get more pathetic until I realized that someone started scrapping my blog comments! Yes, the comments you write when you read blogs, and take time to write thoughtful responses to what’s written. How did I find out my comments were being swiped? I found out when I was on the road in the process of moving up north. It was my turn to be a passenger, so between knitting, reading and writing, I checked my emails and browsed the web on my Blackberry. When I write blog comments, I generally subscribe to comments if the blog is a Wordpress blog and the owner utilizes the Subscribe to Comments Plugin. Sometimes the best part of a blog post is reading the comments other people have written.

When I was reading blog comments to a post I previous commented on, I noticed one of the comments sounded strangely familiar. It was exactly what I wrote word for word a day ago! It was literally copied and pasted. It was posted under a different name and the link was not mine. When I logged on to laptop later that evening to get a closer look, it was indeed my comment. The name was different and the website link they used was obviously different as well. The link was to a site that looked like it was full of scrapped work. It didn’t look real or original. It had a very “fly by night” type of feel and it was full of ads.

The fake comment was deleted after I contact the blog owner (that I posted on) and told them what happened. It happened again on another blog I commented on a few days later. Its probably some sort of spam bot. I did some research to see if this was common but I haven’t really found any information on this issue yet. Thankfully, it hasn’t happened since.

Are thieves, scammers, spammers and scrappers getting so desperate that they have to steal blog comments now?
