Event Description: The City of Lawrence is considering establishing a city-wide curbside recycling program. All interested persons are invited to attend the plan development meetings for the establishment of the proposed organized collection service for residential recycling in the City of Lawrence. The meetings will be held in the City Commission room at City Hall located at 6 East 6th Street on the following dates: Wednesday, July 11th, 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., Thursday, July 26th, 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., and Friday, August 24th, 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. As required by state law, the City of Lawrence will develop a draft plan for establishing an organized recycling collection service during the 90-day period after the adoption of the resolution of intent. Resolution No. 6976 announcing the City’s intent to consider adoption of an organized collection service for residential recycling within the City limits of Lawrence, Kansas was signed by the Mayor on June 12, 2012. All curbside recycling haulers operating collection services in Lawrence as of the date the resolution was adopted will be invited to participate in the planning of the proposed organized recycling collection service. Open House at Santa Fe Depot

Event Description: The City of Lawrence will hold an open house on Wednesday, February 1 at the Santa Fe Station, 413 E. 7th Street, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The meeting is being held to discuss the possibility of relocating city transit offices to the Santa Fe Station (Amtrak/BNSF depot). By relocating city transit services to this location, Santa Fe Station would become the downtown hub for the city transit service. KDOT, in cooperation with the city, received a grant through the Federal Railroad Administration to develop construction-ready plans that would establish how the depot would be restored. The architect working on this project would also like to hear from neighbors and residents about the depot prior to developing these plans. “It is important that we hear from the public and the neighborhood about possible plans for the depot,” said Diane Stoddard, assistant city manager. “Their input is invaluable for both the considerations for restoration and the possibility of creating a transit hub.” The meeting is an open house format and the public is welcome to stop in any time between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 1.
