She was known as Dorothy Howe and Dorothy Hurd as she was married and divorced a few times in her career as a senior golf pro. Dorothy only had five major championship wins in the amateurs. She won the British Women's and the U.S> Women's Amateur in the same year, which was 1909. She came from a family of golfers as her sisters and uncles play the game as well as her father. Campbell's last win was the U.S. Senior Amateur in 1938. She died in a car accident at the young age of sixty-one.

Glenna Collett Vare was born in 1903 and died in 1989. She had no known tour wins but had six major championship wins. She started playing golf at the age of fourteen and by the time she was nineteen in 1922, she won the U.S Women's Amateur and continued to do it five more times. She played until her late fifties, Vare wrote two books in the 10920's. She was well respected as a woman golfer and had a great game play when it came to making the green. She has a trophy given out every year to junior girls, it is call the Glenna Collett Vare Trophy.

Joyce Wethered was born in 1901 and died in 1991. She had four major championship wins and was a member of the British Curtis Cup team. When Wethered and Vare came to play together three times in their golfing history, Wethered beat Vare all three times. Although she never competed in the senior golf tours, she could however drive the ball two hundred and forty yards with precision. Wethered was known more in the British circles more so than in the United States. She married and became Lady Heathcoat-Amory.

Patty Berg was a top leader in the senior golf circle. She was born in 1918 and died in 2006. She had sixty tour wins, which includes wins before the LPGA was even formed. Patty also had fifteen major championship wins to add to her golfing career. She was successful in winning the first U.S. Women's Open back in 1946. She set a record for being the only woman to win fifteen major championship tours. Patty turned pro in the year 1940 but joined the Navy until 1945. The "Patty Berg" award is given out every year to the woman who makes the greatest contribution to the game of golf for women. This tradition was started in 1978.

There are many great senior golf pros and they have been made members of the World Golf Hall of Fame, as have these ladies. They have contributed to the golfing circuit and have become well known by many of the men senior golf pros. Many women still compete in the senior golf tournaments and have made a name for themselves. Some are good at the long drive and some are famous for their short game. These women have made way for the new generation of golfers.

There are many types of apparel and accessories that are needed by a golfer to ensure his or her maximum performance on the golf course. Some are necessary, while some others not so necessary but just plain helpful. One of the most important accessory is the golf head cover.

This golf head cover is not ahead cover per say, meaning to say not the apparels to cover your head, but your club's head. Some people may ask why is it important to have this golf head cover, when the name does not suggest much of its importance in the game.

Importance of head covers

The name may look normal, but that is not the case for the usage or function of this golf apparel. The main purpose of this cover is to protect your club head from getting damaged due to many reasons throughout the course.

Damages can occur in many ways; mainly through accidents. Accidents could happen when you move around your golf bags around the rough plains or sandy areas of the golf course, or even when transporting your bags from one place to another and to a cart and vice versa.

The main reason for why this golf head cover was invented was to protect the heads from getting dents because of this accident. Dents affect the performance of a game, meaning to say that they will bring down the quality of the performance of the player due to the lack of accuracy.

These head covers, which come in so many variants and designs, are very helpful in that case. There are many online stores that sell golf head covers, and most of these covers feature unique individual plush characters such as famous cartoons and TV characters, animals and famous people.

A few to name would be Popeye, Betty Boop, Felix the Cat, Smokey the Bear, and Grateful Dead Dancing Bears, and other random floral designs such as a sunflower and a daisy.

An average golf head cover can be made from superior quality fabrics, and the more expensive ones can be made from strong PVC and leather or other silky material. Even better now, there are some which are user-activated and can talk!

Some famous ones are Leprechaun head covers, Nhl Golf head cover, Novelty Golf head cover and many more. Most of these head covers can be found online or any golf store around the country.

Learning how to improve your handicap can go a long way towards improving your overall golf game. (...)

Learning how to improve your handicap can go a long way towards improving your overall golf game. However, one of the first things that you need to remember is your handicap is not actually the score of a single game. For example, if you play a single game of a 10 over par, then it is virtually impossible to determine your handicap. However, once you have played several games it is possible to start determining your handicap. Another important note about handicaps is the average score that you have is still generally not your handicap. For a good example, a player who typically has an average of 10 over par will usually have a handicap of a 7 to 9 range. The exact score of the handicap will vary based upon the actual courses that are played and the ratings that accompany those courses.

Most professionals consider the absolute best way to lower a handicap to be the method of simply improving your putting as well as wedge skills. If you are able to drive the ball appropriately but fall dramatically short on the putting then you are going to be looking at a very high handicap for the rest of your life. Simply taking the time to focus heavily upon a good putting strategy can really help you shave a few points off of your handicap and improve your game. Between an emphasis on the wedge or putting you should generally focus more on your putting since virtually all holes are going to need to be putted while not all will need a wedge shot.

Most players also typically tend to find that by improving their putting and wedge skills that their long drive skills tend to improve as well. While this is not always possible, the general idea is that improving your shorter shots will gradually work to improve your long shots as well. As long as you are using proper form for your short shots, you should start to see a dramatic improvement in your score, which will ultimate help to improve those long shots as well. This can overall make a huge impact on your handicap since you can see a huge difference in your rating.

Another consideration that you should keep in mind is your confidence. Have you ever noticed that someone who is not very confident tends to make more mistakes no matter what they are doing? They may be an expert in their field, but without confidence, they usually make small mistakes just because they are nervous, if you discover that you are nervous on the field and are making these small mistakes you may need to work on boosting your own self-confidence before you can really improve your overall handicap.

You should focus on what you are good at and improve your concentration and you are sure to improve your confidence. While you know that you are going to make mistakes, you should always strive to accept it is a learning process. This will allow you to slowly and carefully learn exactly what you can do to improve while still keeping a high confidence level. This combined with the other tips outlined above will work together beautifully to allow you to streamline your golf handicap and improve your whole game. These strategies can be used no matter how long you have been playing golf, even those players who have played for years can always use a bit of improvement.

Tommy had fifteen tour wins and one major win in a championship game back in 1958. Tommy was born in 1918 and made it into the World Golf Hall of fame and was a member of the Ryder Cup team twice. His senior golf years were spent winning the PGA Seniors Golf Championship in 1969 after which he became a key player in the creation of the Champion Tour formerly the Senior PGA. He had a temper and through his clubs, but he knew the game. At the age of eighty, Bolt was still playing senior golf.

Gene Littler was born in 1930 and became pro golfer. Gene had twenty-nine tour wins with the PGA and eight wins with the Senior PGA. In 1961, he gained one win in the U.S. Open. He also took a win in the Amateur in 1953. He was a member of the World Golf Hall of fame, Walker Cup Team as well as eight Ryder Cup teams. He was voted Comeback Player of the Year in 1973. After taking a break from senior golf in 1972, Gene came back and won in Saint Louis. He did have a great career in the golfing circle.

Cary Middlecoff was born in 1921 and died in 1998. Cary had forty tour wins and three major wins. He was a member of the World Hall of Fame, the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame and in 1956 he won the Vardon Trophy. Cary was a great senior golf pro and was dentist before joining the PGA. He wrote a book called the "Golf Swing" as well as did some broadcasting before he died. He was known as slow paced senior golf pro.

Harry Cooper was born in 1904 and died in 2000. He Cooper took thirty-one tour wins, but had no championship wins in the majors. In 1937, he won the Vardon trophy and was a leader in money win with the PGA. He was a member of the World Hall of Fame. Cooper went on to teach golfing lessons in New York for twenty-six years. He then moved to the Westchester Country Club were he continued teaching until he was ninety-three years old. This shows you that you can be a senior golfer for as long as you want.

Ben Hogan was another great senior golf pro who was born in 1912 and died in 1997. Hogan had sixty-four tour wins and nine major championship wins. Hogan was also a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame and won the Vardon Trophy in 1940, 1948 and 1941. Ben Hogan played his first tour event in 1932 and won the money purse of $8.50. In 1927, Hogan turned pro at the age of seventeen. Hogan also had golf clubs that bore his name and were considered some of the best clubs one could buy for many years.

You need golf instruction if you expect to improve your game, unless you are born a natural sultan of swat. A professional golf pro can target the weaknesses in your swing and diagnose your hooks. (...)

You need golf instruction if you expect to improve your game, unless you are born a natural sultan of swat. A professional golf pro can target the weaknesses in your swing and diagnose your hooks. They can give you secret tricks of the trade and simple mind games to help you better focus before and after every shot on the course.

The best amateur golfers out there take lessons from the pros, even though they might not want to admit it. Natural born athletes like the Michael Jordans and Michael Schmidts of the world even need the pros every once in a while to point out the hitches in their back swing, or how they look up in their short game. Heck, even professional golfers seek out gurus for golf instruction when they're in a slump or losing distance on their drives.

In other words, it's not a shame that you want golf lessons. That's what golf pros are for. That's why they train and get certified by the PGA. And believe you me, it's not easy to be certified as a golf pro. It takes years of work, training, and studying. They learn not only how to teach golf, but also how to run a golf shop, plan a club tournament, and deal with club members. Even after they earn their stripes, they enroll in the occasional seminar or course to brush up on new teaching techniques.

But of course, golf instruction is a crucial facet of this training and their work. That is, after all, why English and Scottish golfers first came to America in the beginning of the twentieth century. They established the PGA to spread the gospel of golf and teach Americans how to play. Several decades later, golf is played and taught all over the world. Those English and Scottish players sure made stiff competition for themselves.

The English were introduced to the game by King Charles and the French by Mary Queen of Scots.

Some Of The Earliest Golf Clubs

Some of the first few golf clubs that were established are the Honorable Company of Edinburgh Golfers which was formed in 1744, the St. Andrews Society of Golfers [The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews] which was established in 1754 and the Royal Blackheath which was created in 1766.

Golf In The United States

It was about 1888 when the game of golf made its first appearance in the United State of America. The first golf club house of the United States, the St. Andrews Golf Club of Yonkers was established in New York the same year. The game soon had so many addicts that there were more than a thousand clubs in just a couple of year's time. In the year 1894 the United States Golf Association was established to regulate the game in the United States and Mexico. In fact it was so popular that the first golf magazine was started in 1897! Soon the United States became the center of the game as the number of sponsored competitions increased as did the price money. Golf gained international recognition in 1900 when it became an Olympic event. The PGA of America was formed in the early 1916.

The First Golf Equipment

The first golf equipment used was not easily affordable by the common man as they were handcrafted and unique. Some of the golf clubs had iron club heads but most of them were carved from the wood of fruit trees. The balls were made of curved wads of packed feather stuffed into hand stitched horsehide! The most common disadvantage is the injury rate. Seniors over fifty have more of a chance of injury than a golfer who is younger. To understand and treat your injury is important. Preventing an injury is even more important. Sometimes no matter how careful you are, you can sustain an injury. The most common injury is tendonitis of the wrist as well as the hamate fracture. Back and ankle injuries are also seen with senior golfers. Prevention is the key to a successful season of golf.

Sometimes preventing the hamate fracture condition is not easy. The symptoms of a hamate fracture are pain around the wrist area and the heel of the hand. You might also have no feeling in your fingers, mostly the little finger. For the most part, an x-ray will not reveal the fracture, but a MRI will show the hamate fracture. As you may know already, the MRI is very expensive. Early detection is crucial for a senior golfer. If it is left untreated, it will hinder your performance on the course and cause more pain than you can tolerate.

If you think you have a hamate fracture, you should see a doctor for treatment. The treatment is a simple process where the hook is removed and the wrist is then able to have blood flow to it again. The surgery works better than just simple immobilizing the wrist. It could take weeks to recover when and the golfer will need to refrain from golf.

You can prevent a wrist problem by changing the way you grip and hold your club. A different club design and style may also prevent the wrist problem. If you have a tight hold on the golf club, you are more prone to a hamate fracture. Adjust your grip will help prevent a hamate fracture and prevent tendonitis as well. Senior golf does also affect your overall body. Staying fit will help prevent injuries and allow you to keep with the game.

Some senior golf players experience back pain. This is common if you put your entire body into the swing. Some golfers will wear a back brace to keep the back straighter when completing the swing. They make braces that are more comfortable than the old styled braces that were bulky and stiff. Another complaint is ankle injuries. As you swing, you are not only twisting the back, but also the ankle. This can cause a sprain, which will hurt more so than if you would break your ankle and may take longer to heal.

Senior golf pros are just as prone to injury as the seasoned players. If you keep your body limber, take precautions with your grip, swing, and follow through, you can prevent injury. Use the right equipment as well. You can enjoy playing senior golf up to any age as long as you adjust your game as you age. Preventing back, wrist and ankle injuries are important so you can keep playing the game.

When you have it, you have it. The world is yours. When you don't have it…then you think that you would be better off placing the ball in the hole with your hand rather than using your putter.

Just the last time you played you had the same stance, putter, and "feel" as you had today, but last time you made the shot easily. What happened?

Do you just have bad luck this time?

Putting is not a game of chance. Although sometimes it may seem that there is no rhyme or reason to it, there are some tips to help your putting.

If you are having putting problems, your solution can be boiled down to one little word.

Tension.

Concentrate on keeping your muscles relaxed while you are putting and your shots will become more and more accurate.

Stiff muscles only make it harder to putt. Good putting takes complete muscle relaxation so that your movements are fluid. Fluid movement gives you the freedom to make a good putt. If you are trying to tense your body up to keep your balance, then you are guaranteed to have problems.

When you are not having problems putting, your confidence is increased and you are having free movement. When you miss an easy putt, then you become tense and you try more carefully. The more tense you become, the more freedom you lose and your putting goes down the drain.

You can change everything about your putting and try to copy every professional player imaginable, but it all hinges on you being relaxed. Relax your muscles. Be loose and free. Pretend your muscles are like jelly.

Making a good shot is impossible if you are tense. When you stiffen up from your face to your feet, you lose the freedom that you need to make a good shot. You may make several shots this way, but there will come a time when all you will hit are bad shots. You need to stay relaxed enough to fall down (but stay up).

If you will stay relaxed then your putt will improve, your confidence will rise, and you will be more relaxed for the entire golf game!

Are you looking for the magic key to putting? RELAX! Good putting hinges on this one key!

Everything from the golf clubs to the golf cart is covered, and you will have countless options for personalizing everything. The accessories range from completely useless to very clever and valuable. So you will have to decide whether you want to spend your money on a gimmicky little item or whether you want something that will really come in handy out on the golf course. Here I will name some of the things that no golfers should go without. If you are feeling the urge to buy golf accessories, you should start with these before moving on to anything else.

The right apparel can make a golf game much easier on you both physically and mentally. Golf shoes are meant to be very comfortable when walking across large stretches of grass. These are much better to wear while golfing than just your regular dress shoes (unless you enjoy having blisters for the next few weeks). Sunglasses are another very important part of any golfer's outfit. They will allow you to see the course better, as well as protect your eyes from the harmful rays put out by the sun. Other apparel is useful, but not quite as necessary. For example, golf shirts, pants, and hats are widely available but they aren't too much different than what you might normally wear.

Another good accessory to have is something to help you carry all of your smaller items along with your golf clubs. Usually this will be integrated directly into a golf club bag, but otherwise you will definitely need something to take its place. These smaller items include extra golf balls and tees mostly, along with any other things that you find yourself frequently using during a golf game. There are many functional ways that you can carry these things, but usually a simple pouch will do. You can shove it into your golf club bag, or just leave it under the seat in the golf cart until you need it.

Finally, you will most likely want to accessorize your golf clubs to some extent. You will certainly want to give them a good home inside of a deluxe golf club bag, but you may want to make modifications on the actual clubs themselves. You can replace the grips at the tops of the clubs with something that is more suited towards your style, or simply to something that give you a better grip on the club as it was meant to do. You can avoid having it slip out of your hands, since this is quite an embarrassing turn of events if it happens to you.

All of these accessories can be easily bought at your local golf club store, but you may not have much of a selection when visiting these stores. It is a good idea to look on the internet for what you want, and see what the internet has to offer. There are many web sites selling golf accessories, and throughout them you are sure to find accessories that meet the very specific details that you have in mind. Just keep your search going until you find something that you are satisfied with, and you will be glad that you persevered in the matter.

Argyle golf shirts may get a bad wrap off the course. In fact, most golf fashion will evoke stares and sour looks if you step off the links and dare to wander into the real world with it still on your back. Knickers, beanies, sweater vests–these clothes have a certain nineteenth century charm to them, sure, but this is after all the twenty-first century.

One friend of mine makes it his duty to inform you whether or not you're wearing appropriate attire off the course. Dare to wear a collared polo shirt in front of him in a public place, plaid, argyle, or plain colored, and he will promptly let you know that you are wearing a golf shirt. He doesn't say it in a nice way either. It's as if he wants you to change right then and there. The funny thing is, he is a golf course design architect. The man's whole wardrobe consists of golf shirts and sweater vests.

Unlike him, however, we should not be ashamed of our fashion sense. If we dare to wear argyle golf shirts out to a restaurant or to the ballgame, it's sort of a statement of our allegiance to the game of golf. Just as football fans wear the jersey of their favorite running back, or hockey lovers don the sweater of their beloved defenseman, golf fans should be able to wear their golf gear without fear.

It's not like golf clothes are cheap. Most golf shirts, whether they're made by Nike, Tommy Bahamas, Izod, Polo, or any other manufacturer, are expensive and nicely made. Golf slacks can be fashion forward, a handsome pair of khakis with pleats and athletic lines. And golf caps–maybe we can leave them at home when we take the little lady out to dinner and a movie.

If all golfers wore their argyle golf shirts, sweater vests, and country club embroidered pullovers out and about, we could be more noticeable to each other. Think about it. It would be a great way to meet fellow golfers, new friends, and new playing partners.

For a majority of golfers, golf cart parts are something that are rarely thought about since the golf course takes care of them. (...)

For a majority of golfers, golf cart parts are something that are rarely thought about since the golf course takes care of them. However, if you own your own, or operate them for a golf course, knowing where you can get the best deals on golf cart parts may be something you want to know about.

Some folks own golf carts for the convenience of traveling around their property or for transporting small items from one area of their yard to another. Those living on farms find them useful in helping them reach out of the way buildings without having to drive their vehicles or other heavy equipment. Many stock a few golf cart parts for emergency breakdowns, but beyond the typical tires and batteries, it is difficult to predict which part is going to break next.

Whether your golf cart is gas powered or battery operated, you will always have a need for tires. Most of them are made of soft rubber and tend to wear down quickly, even more so if frequently operated on pavement or gravel. Tires are one of the most common golf cart parts kept as spares in homes that own them.

Electric Carts Require More Expensive Parts

Gas powered golf carts are similar to a go-cart and basic engine parts, such as spark plugs, fuel filter and oil filter are usually kept on hand. Electric carts, requiring a large deep cycle battery have different types of parts that can be expensive. Chargers are usually maintained in your garage or other buildings and the cart is plugged in daily, however switches to control the cart's power are some of the golf cart parts you may want to keep on hand.

Keeping an electric motor operating in a wet climate can be a challenge and keeping it clean and dry can prevent the need for additional golf cart parts being replaced. Typically, maintenance to keep contacts dry and clean will help prevent unexpected breakdowns.

Additional golf cart parts that you may consider stocking would be for steering mechanisms. Many washers and bolts are used that can wear out with normal use and will need to be replaced and you do not want your cart out of commission due to the failure of a washer or pin that costs less than a dollar but may take a week to get. You can usually find replacement parts from the company that made your cart or from numerous sources online.

It is strongly enforced that no senior golf player be bothered when trying to play the game. All their attention is dedicated to the play. Volunteer's watch over the crowds to make sure all the rules are followed. Security is at it strongest during the all the days leading up to the final few days when things heat up. You can bring cameras onto the golf courses in the days leading up to the Championship days. Cameras are forbidden during the Championship rounds as well as workers are forbidden to have cell phones on the greens.

Senior golf, which is for those fifty and older also, has vendors set up around the course where you can purchase food and drinks. They do have bleachers at some holes where you can rest for a while before moving onto the next hole. These do fill up quickly, so you should plan to stand the entire time. This can be of some concerns to the many senior golf followers. The do provide some handicap services such as scooters for mobility around the course. The Senior Open is set up to allow everyone to participate as the audience. Many people from everywhere head to the tournaments to see what all the excitement is about during the year.

Qualifying To Play The Senior Golf Open

If you have a Senior Golf Open coming to your city, you can jump up to the tee and try your hand at qualifying to play in the tour. Many times the tours need to fill some open spots and they have qualifying times for any senior golf player over the age of fifty. To even consider qualifying you need to an USGA handicap index of fewer than 3.4. You can apply to qualify and if you meet the requirements, you can be the next senior golf your participant. You will then play a few full rounds of golf and if you succeed, you can play with the pros.

For an amateur senior golf player, this is a dream come true. Many people do however apply to qualify but they usually only need a couple of people for each location. You can find more information about qualifying on the PGA website that gives you all the information you need to know about dates and times of qualifying. This is a stiff competition because there are so many entries and only a handful of openings.

Whether you are a spectator or interested in qualifying, you will enjoy your time. You have a chance to meet the senior gold pros and learn more about them and their techniques. It is after all a great way to learn a few tips about golfing. Keep in mind the rules that are in place and you should enjoy a great day of watching some of the best senior golfers around from around the country.

There are many left-handed golfers who have serious problems playing the game. Whether it's because they are using a club that doesn't feel right or because they just can't seem to figure out how to golf left-handed, when nearly all tips and equipment out there cater to right-handed players.

This happens to a lot of new golfers who haven't yet learned that they are left-handed: there are a lot of people who use their right hand for everything else, but when it comes to golf, they automatically seem to change hands; and they need to use their left hand to golf.

Mastering golf is hard enough without any extra complications.

When it comes to viewing pictures of golfers taking a shot left-handed, golfers will almost need to view the image with a mirror to get the right idea.

This is why there are websites and magazines dedicated to the left handed golfer that accommodate all left-handed golfers out there. Whether they are giving them news on how to beat people with the latest in left-handed clubs or telling them where to find the best coaches who cater to left-handed golfers.

It can get frustrating for left handed golfers to constantly keep reading text on the latest tips, only to have their concentration broken when the word "right" pops up, forcing them to change the word in their mind to "left." But these dedicated publications and WebPages are designed to help break that mold that hinders the everyday left-handed golfer.

Golfers' needs are now being met in every way imaginable. Not long ago, left handed golfers weren't given much of a chance in the golfing world, but with the great sport of golf becoming more interesting and inclusive, everyone is given a much better chance to compete.

A big part of playing golf is your putting game.

It looks like it should be so easy to put that little ball into the hole, doesn't it? Once you get on the green, you find that putting that ball into the hole can be one of the things that can make or break your golf game.

Here are a few things that you can do to help your putting game.

* When you practice putting, use one ball to make it as much like a real game as possible. This will help you to concentrate more efficiently than you would if you have balls all over the putting surface. Practice putting daily.

* Putting does not only involve using the wrists. Placing the palms of your hands where they face each other while putting helps to prevent one hand from dominating the other and helps them to work together for a successful putt.

* RELAX! Make sure your muscles are completely relaxed when you putt!

* Ensure that your back and follow through strokes stay at the same length.

* You can keep your putter face square to the ball by keeping your right hand strong and left hand weak.

* Rely more on your shoulders than your wrist when you are putting.

* Keep your left wrist firm and still.

* Don't lock your knees. Relax them.

* Make sure that your feet and heels are shoulder-width apart.

* It is better to miss a putt by sending it sailing past the hole than having it come up short. It is far easier to finish off a shot.

* You can even practice putting at home on the carpet if weather is bad or you cannot make it to the golf course.

* Increase the stroke speed as you make contact with the ball. You will want to keep the putter grip moving in the direction of the targeted hole.

* Gary McCord says that if you are trying to putt in a curved direction, you need to keep your feet parallel to the line that you want the ball to follow, not the hole.

* When you find a putter that you like and play well with, then you need to stick with it.

* Compete with yourself so that you get used to putting under pressure.

With the popularity of cell phones today, you'd be hard pressed to find a golfer who doesn't have one. What used to be a luxury a few years ago has now become an everyday accessory as common as your key chain and purse or wallet.

Everybody has one, from young to old and everywhere you look, people are talking on their cell phones. We have become easily accessible by anyone no matter where we are and that's why cell phone holders have become such a popular golf cart accessory.

Keep Your Calls to Yourself

Do cell phones belong on the golf course? Many say no because a cell phone ringing in someone's back swing is the quickest way to find a ball in a hazard. Talking on your phone can also distract other golfers and could mean the difference between an eagle and a birdie.

Many golfers consider a ringing cell phone, as well as talking on the phone, rude and would rather you kept your phone at home. If cell phone use is considered rude, however, then why are cell phone holders sold as a golf cart accessory?

Set to Vibrate

Cell phone holders are sold as a golf cart accessory because the makers of such products understand that just because you're golfing doesn't mean you can't be reached. Cell phones don't have to ring as many cell phones have a vibrating option that can alert you without alerting everyone else.

In addition, many cell phones are text message ready. A text message can often be a great substitute for talking to someone. It doesn't bother anyone else and it can be returned at the other person's convenience.

Unlimited Text Messaging

Many cell phone plans include unlimited text messaging as part of their plan options. With unlimited text messaging, you won't have to worry about going over your plan as you would if you were talking on it constantly. You will save money and you will prevent from disturbing other golfers who might not care to hear your conversation.

A cell phone holder is a great golf cart accessory provided you make the necessary changes so as not to disturb other golfers. Put your cell phone on vibrate or silent. If you're afraid of missing a call, just check it every now and again. Most cell phones will tell you if you missed a call.

Also, use text messaging instead of talking whenever possible. These changes aren't all that inconvenient and by making them, most fellow golfers won't mind you having a cell phone holder as a golf cart accessory. They might even thank you for being so polite and for not distracting their game.

What could be better for tooling around a large piece of property than a small electrically powered vehicle made for two or more passengers and a bit of equipment? If your answer is "nothing" then you're looking for a golf cart.

Although developed and marketed for the use of golfers to expedite a "walk" around a course, golf carts are also used for transporting people around places that are too expansive for walking, but would be too confined or crowded for ordinary cars. Movie studios and their back lots are famous for their use of golf carts.

Golf carts are frequently seen at recreational parks, large flea markets and communities that appreciate their quiet, non-polluting convenience. Since their use as transportation in so many areas, manufacturers are now offering golf carts with car-like accessories and abilities.

New or Used?

If you are in the golf cart market for yourself or your organization, how do you make the choice between a new or used golf cart?

Golf courses are still the major purchaser for golf carts, of course, and they have a large turnover. Courses replace their fleet of carts every two or three years, which makes a used golf cart an easy commodity to find. If your company is looking for a few carts to zip around a business or recreational park, you may be tempted by the prospect of customized, logo-painted, high performance vehicle.

That sounds so much better than a tired, old used golf cart that was designed to putter the retired golfers around a course at safe (read "boring") speeds and no chance of disturbing anyone's concentration.

First, the important fact: a used golf cart is half the price of a new one. The difference in price runs into the thousands. Now multiply that by the number of carts your business needs.

Second, and even better, the largest manufacturers of golf carts all sell kits to upgrade that used golf cart. The manufacturers call them aftermarket parts. You can get lift kits, larger tires, a larger engine, hitch mounts, cargo boxes, audio systems, and decal sets. That should cover the cool factor.

The Used Golf Cart Industry

Whenever there is a big supply matched with a big demand, you know there's an industry. You can buy a used golf cart refurbished or "as is." The refurbished carts are inspected and cleaned and often come with a warranty. The "as is" used golf cart is, of course, a little cheaper and comes with the same caveat as a used car.

The choice is yours. A used golf cart at half the price, "as is" or refurbished plus a cool kit of aftermarket parts or a new cart at twice the price.

This week I picked up a wonderful little book from the library entitled And If You Play Golf, You're My Friend by Harvey Penick. The style was warm and funny and the book was filled with wonderful golf tips!

Harvey Penick, known as America's Best Loved Golf Teacher, offers the following advice for golfers.

* Practice your swing without a ball. Swing your 7-iron at a certain blade of grass until you hit that spot consistently.

* Try not to be nervous about playing your game. Change, "I have to play today" to "I can't wait to play today!" Have fun playing golf!

* When choosing a putter to chip, try this tip. Toss a ball close to the hole underhanded. Then ask, "Which club will create the same path of flight and results?" Choose the club that will give you the same results.

* Use your intuition when choosing clubs or making a shot. The right club to use is the first club that comes into your mind. Try not to second-guess yourself.

* Try not to listen to your opponents. Concentrate on your own game.

* Many of the challenges that golfers have with their swings is due to an incorrect grip or stance. Practice these basics when your game seems to be off.

* To alleviate tension and aid in concentration, practice hitting leaves or twigs.

* After you hit a bad shot, you don't have to make an adjustment immediately. If you start to have a pattern of bad shots, then try a grip change.

* Take your time making a shot. Don't rush a shot. When you are ready, hit the ball.

* Stick with your decision. When you are decisive, the rest of your body will follow through with what it is expected to do.

* Keep your eye on the whole ball, not just a part of it.

* Be sure you have eye check ups regularly.

* Rotator cuff area pain is a very common golf injury. Penick says to ice it after you are done playing golf. It may also help to circularly swing your arms slowly while you are playing. This can help prevent your muscles from getting tight.

* Don't swing too hard. Try to believe that your ball will go a far distance if you swing correctly and solidly and that will miraculously happen.

* It is very important to keep your left arm straight upon impact.

If you are looking for an enjoyable and inspiring book to read about golf, check out Harvey Penick's Little Red Book, too. Penick's books will make you happy and you will get some great tips too!

Apparels such as sexy golf shoes, beautiful golf shirts are highly sought after.

A golf shirt is very important, simply because you can't be wearing any other type of shirt mainly because other types of shirts are not designed to withstand weather elements and react to the movement of your limbs and abdomen.

The many variants

There are many of types of golf shirts available to suit every taste and pocket. A famous golf shirt is the 'shady-tone colored' shirts mainly made by the renowned golf equipment makers such as Callaway, Bobby Jones Players Collection, and many more. Most of them come in tranquil shades of different colors, but primarily in pool blue, sky blue, leaf green, ash grey and so on.

Another type of golf shirt is the sweater or knitted type of shirts. Most of them are made from cashmere-blend knitted fabric or silk-blend fabric. These shirts are slightly more expensive than any other type of golf shirts, but look very nice and posh. Alternatively, there are also sweaters made from mercerized cotton, which are normally half the price of the former.

Or if you want to be conservative and common, then you would go for the classics type of golf shirt. This shirt is basically similar to formal outing shirts, but they are generally made from different type of fabric such as golf cotton and so on. Their designs are usually common, such as checks and nailhead. And some famous makers of this particular golf shirt type would be Jack Nicklaus, Polo by Ralph Lauren, and Ashworth

Besides the above three, there is another new type of golf shirt, which is the result of new fabric technology. This refers to the stylish and comfortable 'cooling' shirts. These shirts wick your sweat away and would lower down your body temperature while playing, directly affecting on boosting continuous strength in your body without wearing off easily. These shirts can be found in stores that sell Adidas or Haggar Cool shirts.

Taking care

These shirts are generally similar in the way we should take care of them. Packing them in bundles, especially when we are going for outing or vacations could spoil them, so fold them laid-down on a thin foil of plastic and cover them with dry cleaning bags. Similar to blazers and slacks, a golf shirt should be sent for dry cleaning or washed at home.

For the avid golfer, the thought of going on vacation where you do nothing but golf is the idea of heaven. Here are a few things to consider before you take your next golf vacation.

First, it's always good to go on vacation with people who share your love of golf. Most often a golf vacation turns into a buddy trip, but there's really nothing wrong with that. But make sure that you pick a destination that everyone can agree on. Take a vote if you must, but be sure everyone wants to go to the same place and that everyone can afford it.

You will also want to take into consideration everyone's playing abilities when you plan a golf vacation. Someone with a 3 handicap will enjoy a challenging course while a person with a 13 handicap will likely just get frustrated and mad on the same course.

As a general rule when planning a golf vacation, you should consider the courses first and the accommodations next. Resorts, especially those with quality golf courses, are expensive. But all in all, if golf is a main purpose or highlight of your trip, decide where you want to play first, and then decide on accommodations. You can take a golf vacation where you stay at a hotel to gain access to a course and then move to a less expensive hotel later. It's an inconvenience to have to repack and move during the trip, but can be well worth it in order to play top courses while not spending the entire vacation at posh resort prices.

Even if you are staying at a resort hotel which gives you access to its courses, find out how far ahead of your arrival date you can book tee times. All courses have specific rules for when they will make tee times, which you should take note of and follow carefully.

Some courses even have specific times you must call to reserve your time (e.g., between 7 and 9 a.m. on the Thursday eight days before the weekend you wish to play), though most guidelines are usually more general (e.g., a week before you wish to play or up to sixty days ahead).

You should book as far as ahead as possible, especially for high demand courses. Even as a resort guest, if the course is popular, you may be out of luck if you wait until a few days before arrival or check-in time to get a tee time

Once you've embarked on your golf vacation and are ready to play the courses you've chosen, don't just jump right in with the excitement that we know you feel. You must take time to get a feel for the course and stretch properly. Arrive at the course well before your tee time to avoid feeling rushed and look around. Check out the scorecard to see the layout of the course and perhaps talk to the course pro to see if he or she has any advice for you.

A golf vacation is a great way for the golfer to enjoy some of the best courses our country has to offer. So plan carefully and then get out there and have some fun.
