Due to phenomenal demand for the Glasgowbury 2010 compilation CD which we gave to every festival-goer last Saturday, we’ve decided to give it away for free here too.

Thanks to the likes of presenters such as Gerry Anderson, we have been inundated with requests for the special 23 track CD which we produced as a limited edition compilation to celebrate 10 years at the heart of new music.

So whether you didn’t make the festival, lost your copy or simply want two to gloat over your friends, we’ll get a copy to you in a flash – and all for the price of a stamp.

To get your hands on the CD which includes tracks from half of the acts on this year’s bill, send a stamped self addressed envelope (a square one or one big enough to hold a CD) to Glasgowbury Music Group, Unit B1, The Business Centre, Tobermore Road, Draperstown, BT45 7AG.

Use a first class stamp to be able to cover the cost of the light CD.

We’ll pop it into the envelope and get a copy back to you in a jiffy for you to enjoy the likes of LaFaro, Rams’ Pocket Radio, Silhouette, Axis Of, Wonder Villains, Cashier No 9, Captain Kennedy and so many more.

Ten years have been and gone since Glasgowbury first opened its doors and this past weekend, 4,000 of you joined us on the side of the hill to help us blow out the candles on a pretty large cake.

What resulted was arguably one of the most special festivals yet and everyone at Glasgowbury would like to thank all of you who helped make the event so special.

Every band worked their collective socks off across five festival stages and we can’t thank all of you who provided the soundtrack to a glorious day in the Sperrins.

The blogs, online and print community have been coming down with pictures, reviews and thoughts from everyone willing to give their two cents, so get in on the act.

REVIEWS

ATL have hand picked a huge selection of acts to review, giving almost everyone near top grades – see here and here.

Our good friends at Panic Dots went on a mission to find the best music they think you should have heard – see here.

Matthew Patton has been talking to a few of those involved on the day, took a shed load of snaps and reviewed the experience – see here.

E Festivals made it along to review and snap and their results can be seen here and here.

All Gone Pop have went all out on their hunt for reviews which are here.

And Secret Fireworks are recovering from seeing their standout picks of the day – see here.

Music Link NI have been compiling a large array of reviews and pics which you can see here.

UPCOMING RADIO

ATL

ATL got the radio ball rolling on Monday night by playing some exclusive tracks from acts dotted throughout the bill as well as treating us to some of the music recorded specially in the ‘car park creation’ which acted as a make shift acoustic hub.

You can listen back to the show via the iPlayer or use their listen again feature.

And be sure to check out their website soon for some exclusive videos recorded in said hub!

BBC Radio One Introducing NI

As well as recording the entire sets from the Small But Massive Main Stage which Radio One Introducing have sponsored, the Introducing team were also on hand to record the entire G Sessions programme.

Including exclusive sets from Axis Of, Panama Kings, ASIWYFA, Strait Laces, General Fiasco, LaFaro, Fighting With Wire and many more, be sure to listen back and over the coming weeks to hear some exclusive tracks from all of the above.

Sit back, chill out and listen back here.

BBC Electric Mainline

Stephen McCauley from BBC Radio Foyle’s Electric Mainline show spent the day at the festival interviewing and recording artists and festival organiser Paddy Glasgow among other things.

Listen back to his show here for some special words from some special people including, among others, an impromptu acoustic LaFaro track.

TV AND VIDEO

TG4

We want to say a massive thank you to Cliona, Eoghan and Shane from TG4’s Pop4 show who came all the way to Glasgowbury to make a special festival show which will go out this Saturday (July 31st).

Featuring acoustic performances and artist interviews among other things, the show will go out at 5pm on Sky Channel 163.

The headliners for Glasgowbury 2010 are primed and ready to go and in their own words, they’ve never been more excited about a gig.

Cahir, Jamie and Craig, the men and monsters who make up Derry’s Fighting With Wire, are all set to leave their mark all over Glasgowbury 2010 with a performance that will put them back on top of the pile.

After being forced to pull out of least year’s headlining slot to begin work in America on album number two, the punk rock trio have never been more energised about a performance.

“It would almost have been more appropriate for us to headline last year with Man Vs Monster just out and on the back of everything that we were doing it would have been the perfect end to that cycle.

“But we’re extremely excited about Saturday – because this is our comeback, and to do it on Glasgowbury’s birthday is just something else.”

The long wait for the follow up to Man Vs Monster is almost over and Bones Of The Twilight will, says Cahir, see the light of day in the new year.

Ahead of that, there’s an Irish tour in September/October and a UK tour in November to contend with alongside single number one from the new collection.

“Glasgowbury will be the starting block for the new stuff, we’ll be picking up where we left off and using it as a stage before we go on tour again.”

As for Saturday’s headlining slot, Cahir promises the band have a few tricks up their sleeves but that it won’t take over from what they hope will be a real rock show.

“We’ll be giving people a taste of the new album but we’ll still be playing the older stuff that everybody knows. It’ll be a chance for people to hear where we were and where we’re going.

“But this is as much about Glasgowbury and we can’t wait to headline it – we’d have been happy to play anywhere on the bill to be honest, but being asked to headline is just an honour.”

So while the jet-lag begins to wear off (“We got back on Friday and we’ve been wrecked ever since”), Fighting With Wire have locked themselves into rehearsals for what promises to be one of their biggest and most important gigs to date.

“We’re going to try and play as best a rock show as possible and get the craic going. So hopefully people will join us for the celebrations.”

The extravagant Beat Carnival will return to this year’s Glasgowbury with a trailer load of props and activities to get your creative juices flowing.

Following the success of last year’s partnership which saw The Beat add some much welcome colour and props to a sell-out festival capacity, the Belfast artists will return with even more entertainment on mind.

This year, the colourful carnival troupe will introduce:

‘Pimp My Booty‘ stall to spice up your wellie footwear,

10th anniversary Graffiti Towers for festival-goers to leave their mark and good wishes while helping to decorate the site,

Site decorations,

Flag making,

Sign scribbling,

Walk about puppet shows,

Dance classes,

And the customary carnival parade complete with thundering samba drums!

-

Carnival artist Damian Mills believes that festivals and carnival goings-on should be celebrated on the one level and is excited to be working in partnership with the the festival again.

“Carnivals and festivals go hand in hand,” he enthuses. “We bring a sense of the absurd and colour to festivals, our skills as artists are never so well appreciated than in a festival. People are up for relaxing and going with the creative flow.”

Asked about returning to Glasgowbury after the group’s initial success in 2009, Damian said,

“The Beat are really excited to be working again with Glasgowbury. We had a lot of fun last year and we are glad to be a part of a music festival that has its heart in the right place.

“The music will be fab and we are looking forward to brightening up the place even more with our carnival programme.”

Festival organiser Paddy Glasgow says working with The Beat ties together too like-minded art-forms.

“Glasgowbury is all about respecting the artists involved regardless of who they are, what time they play, or what style they play in and we’re really excited to be able to include The Beat in that mix again,” he said.

“Working alongside The Beat adds an extra dimension to the festival and allows people to get wacky and creative which is what Glasgowbury is all about. I can’t wait to see what exciting new features they’ll bring to this year’s festival.”

*

Glasgowbury and The Beat are funded and supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. Glasgowbury also receives funding from DCAL.
