Psychedelic alt rockers Cashier No 9 have confirmed that they will head up the March G Session on Saturday 6th.

With their debut album all wrapped up and ready to go, the exciting five piece will return to the G Sessions after last year’s spectacular showcase a month before masterfully taking the main stage at Glasgowbury.

As one of the most exciting bands doing the rounds, Cashier No 9 will bring their unique brand of other-worldly pop to the Cellar Bar in Draperstown.

Support will come from Junior Johnson and his band who, when not thrilling audiences as a one man army of excellence, teams up with three like minded individuals to add another dimension to his music.

Doors open at 9pm and admission is £5.

The Northern Ireland Tourist Board have chosen a picture from the 2009 Glasgowbury Music Festival to feature on a nationwide billboard campaign.

Featuring local girl Sarah O’Kane, it’s a shot that perfectly encapsulates the energy and emotion of the day.

We’ve seen it from Derry to Belfast and a few places in between and understand it might even be as far away as Dublin so chances are you won’t miss it.

And who knows, if you’re at the tenth anniversary of Glasgowbury this year (Saturday 24th July, 2010), you could be selected as the face for a future campaign.

The tenth anniversary of the small but MASSIVE festival will take place on the second last weekend of July and preparations are already well under way.

The submissions period will remain open until the end of March to give interested bands and acts the opportunity to be considered for a spot – click here for information on how to submit.

And bolstered with the recent success at the Irish Festival Awards where the festival picked up four awards – the most of the year – Glasgowbury aim to build upon that success to deliver a fun-packed musical extravaganza for all to enjoy.

The full line-up for the Haiti fundraising spectacular at the Cellar Bar for Saturday 27th February has been confirmed.

Organised due to the recent disaster in Haiti, the event hopes to raise some much needed funds for the victims of the life-changing earthquake.

Bands already confirmed for the all day showcase include the likes of LaFaro, Swanee River and Furlo while over on the acoustic stage acts such as Silhouette and Joe Echo will close the day.

The evening won’t consist solely of  bands however and a series of DJ sets from Groovemonk and Electric Mainline presenter Stephen McCauley will bring the event to a close.

Doors open at 2pm and admission is £7, so get there early.

The event is spread across four venues in the city: Bound for Boston, Sandinos, Masons and the Nerve Centre.

Confirmed acts already include Skruff, Furlo and Triggerman with more to be annouced.

Doors open at 8pm and admission, set at £8, allows you entry to each of the four venues.

The Small But Massive festival was in the running for five awards against some of the premier Irish festivals at the ceremony, and were delighted to come away with four of the prestigious gongs – the biggest win of the night!

The small but MASSIVE! festival was awarded: Best Small Festival, Best Line-Up, Best Family Festival and Best Service.

Glasgowbury retained the Best Family Festival and Best Service awards from last year and were over the moon to be recognised as Ireland’s best small festival with the best line-up – an award which Oxegen had laid claim to the previous two years.

Festival Organiser Paddy Glasgow said he and his team were over the moon with the festival’s success and praised the supporters for their votes.

“Glasgowbury is entering its tenth year and it’s an honour at this time to be recognised on a national scale for having the Best Small Festival in Ireland as voted for by the festival-goers themselves,” he said.

“When we started back in 2000 we never envisaged that the festival would grow into the mighty ship it is today and it’s testament to the ever-growing strength of the music scene in Northern Ireland that we’ve been able to do what we love to do.

“Retaining the Best Family and Best Service awards from last lear while also becoming the country’s Best Small Festival with the Best Line-up is a massive milestone for the festival to reach.

“Of course we have to thank the people who voted for Glasgowbury and the thousands of people who have attended and supported the festival over the years without who the awards wouldn’t have been a reality.

“With that support we go into the our tenth birthday with our eyes firmly set on the goal of providing another top quality music festival, brimming with memorable and exciting moments for people of all ages to enjoy.”

Feeling a need to get involved, the country’s most vibrant entertainer will take to the Draperstown stage in a bid to raise some serious cash for the disaster stricken country.

The enigmatic performer, who headlined the Small But Massive main stage at Glasgowbury 2007, is eager to add an intimate Glasgowbury associated date to his repertoire.

Asked about his desire to help the people of Haiti, Peter said: “There’s no way you can’t do something, it’s so horrendous. I felt compelled to do it, it was a natural instinct.

“And it’s great to be getting up to the Cellar Bar for the first time and it’s ages since I’ve gigged here so I’m really looking forward to it,” said Peter.

“And there’s a really great mixture of acts on the night so I’m really excited.”

All proceeds from this weekend’s event will go the charities supporting Haiti.

Support on the night will come from Derry’s newest electro two piece The Wonder Villains and Mid-Ulster’s own Silhouette.

The night will operate strictly on a first come, first served basis and entry is set at £10.

Keep your eyes peeled for the announcement of ticket providers and line-up.

The legendary Derry funksters, ably supported by three local DJs, will return to the Cellar Bar in Draperstown to build upon the legend.

Introduced to give young DJs in the area a solid platform to showcase their talents, the second round of G Decks will see another round of innovative and confident musicians at the top of their game.

Doors are at 9pm and admission is £5 before 10pm/£6 afterwards.

The local showcase will take place on Saturday 17th April.

First hosted in 1992, Ireland’s most established new band showcase has provided a live platform to scores of up and coming Irish acts.

Last year it was the likes of Skruff, Here Comes The Landed Gentry and Furlo who took the mantle to showcase the best the local area had to offer.

IMRO are now inviting bands and solo artists across all genres of music to apply for a place on the IMRO Showcase Tour 2010.

The acts for this year’s G Sessions showcase are still to be confirmed, so check back soon for details.

Awarded to a selected young European music photographer each year, Graham’s acclaimed work has wowed the judges this time round.

One of those photographs included in the exhibition was shot post Glasgowbury 2006 when a few selected people, including rockers mojoFURY, found time to wind down in the Cellar Bar.

Graham’s work and that of nine other nominees are currently being exhibited in the Photogallery Noorderlicht (Groningen, The Netherlands) until the 28th of February 2010, after which the show will travel to London.
