For 2010, we have some “Missions” that need to be accomplishing and we hope you will consider taking one on or recruiting someone to help us make 2010 successful.   They are as follows:

MISSION 1 – Work for Free at GIVETOLIVE

Details:  Dedicate 2-3 hours per week for the next 10 weeks by coming to the office to help with basic administration… record keeping, tracking finances, helping Ashley, coordinating with The Lance Armstrong Foundation and Canadian Cancer Society, making a few calls, making fun of Paul, and having a good time in general. This is a great way to learn more about GIVETOLIVE!

Skills: Basic computer skills, detail oriented, likes to have fun.

MISSION 2 – Help Us Arrive in Style in Austin, Texas

Details:  Work at home to coordinate our reception in Austin, Texas.  Coordinate the arrival party as we bike into Austin.  Ashley will put you in touch with family members of the cyclists that will be there when we arrive so they can execute your plan.  Ensure that we have cake for annual cake fight in the parking lot, champagne, a festive atmosphere, medals (already ordered), water bottles (ordered), and an appropriate location.  Make sure the bike boxes are at our hotel as well and that the bus and U-Haul are booked to take us to the LIVESTRONG event on Sunday.  Call the Six Lounge (Lance’s bar) to set up our annual Sunday night dinner and ensure that we have catering brought in as well.

Skills: Attention to detail and willing to commit to all of the above.

MISSION 3 – Help Us Depart Vancouver in Style

Details:  Make sure we have some pizza ordered for the Sunday night before we leave and that it arrives at our meeting place that night.  Make sure we have breakfast the next morning.  In an ideal world both of these would be donated.  Work to plan all of “Day 1” … from the time we depart, the help we need to get out of the city, the route we take, whether or not we should have a police escort, getting the support vehicles, moving the support vehicles with us all the way to Bellingham, Washington where we pick up our rental vans.  Recruiting a few Vancouver-based volunteers to help.

Skills: Logistics, planning, and some time to come into the office to discuss who can help you and how this should get done.

Mike Cross and Jennifer Kean will be spinning for 24-HOURS from August 13 (Friday) at 430pm to August 14 (Saturday) at 430pm in front of the Spring Garden Road Memorial Public Library. All proceeds will go to Give to Live (www.givetolive.ca).

Each rider with Give to Live needs to raise $5,000 in order to participate in this epic journey! Our aim is to donate 75% of all money raised by each rider to: Craig’s Cause for Pancreatic Cancer, Ovarian Cancer Canada, The Canadian Cancer Society and The Lance Armstrong Foundation.

What is a POV camera you may ask?. It’s a  high-definition camera to strap onto your person before doing something wild and crazy? Yes, it’s the latest pixel-pushing contender for high-def helmetcam supremacy, the GoPro HD Hero; a little gray box in a waterproof case that can record 1080p at 30fps, 720p at 60, and comes with a selection of mounts that will enable the thing to hang on to just about whatever you want to sling it from.

Last year was a real challenge for me to get riders on video doing their thing. Everyone was asking, why can’t you get us riding on our team. We’ll, the simple reason was I was always riding on Team#1 and I’m not a big fan of letting others handle my personal Sony HDRSR-12 camcorder. I have trust issues. So unfortunately the footage I shot of folks riding were mostly of Team#1 and a little of Team#4 when I rode with them for a day. Everyone else, I would try to catch as we passed by or at the hotels.

This little camera will solve that problem. We’ll be able to film each of the teams by passing this tiny little powerhouse camcorder each of on our 12 day journey. That means I can strap this camera on a different person each day. The mounts can attach to helmets, riders, bikes, even vans. Now we can catch more of the action!
