Lake Nakuru is located on the floor of the Great Rift Valley a few kilometers from Nakuru town. Nakuru is a Masai word which means dust. The park was founded in 1961 and includes the lake and the surrounding savannah land. It covers an area of about 90 miles. It is bordered by the Menengai Crater to the North, Emburu crater to the south, Mau escarpment to the west, Lion hill ranges to the north and Bahati hills to the north-east. There are three rivers draining into the lake namely; Njoro, Enderit and Makalia.

Lake Nakuru national park is one of Kenya top tourist attraction site. The lake is famous for watching over a million pink flamingo birds which nest along the shores. The shallow alkaline water lake and abundant algae is a good source of food for the birds. According to scientific findings, the large flock of flamingo birds in lake Nakuru consume about 250,000 kilos of algae per year. There are two types of flamingo birds in the lake; the lesser flamingo which are the largest in number and the greater flamingo. The lesser flamingo bird have deep red carmine bill and pink plumage. The greater flamingo has a bill with a black tip.

The Lake lies at an altitude of 1758 meters above sea level and, it comprises of about 27 percent of the park. Other birds commonly seen in the lake include the pelicans, cormorants, ducks, Avocets and the stilts. The introduction of Tilapia Grahami in 1960 has flourished over the years. This type of fish was introduced because it can withstand the salty water and at the same time control the mosquitoes. The fish is also a good source of food to the fish-eating birds.

The park vegetation ranges from acacia woodland, tall cactus trees, Euphorbia forest and savannah grassland. The forest and the lake is home to over 400 migratory bird species. Today, Lake Nakuru national park is fenced mainly to protect the rhino population from poaching. In fact, this park has the highest concentration of black and white rhinos in Kenya and, opportunities of spotting this endangered animals is high.

A part from the rhinos, this park is habitat to the Rothschild giraffe which were relocated from Nairobi giraffe center. The abundant yellow-bark acacia tress provide adequate food for the Rothschild giraffe together with the Masai giraffe. Other wildlife found in the park include the buffalo, leopard, warthog, zebra, gazelle and a large herd of water buck. There are also many hippos and craw-less otters in the lake. There are many python snakes especially in the dense woodlands within the park. This park is also a home to the largest Euphorbia forest in Kenya.

Lake Nakuru has faced challenges over the past. Urbanization, increased agricultural encroachment, drought and pollution have decreased the flamingo population. Drainage from the neighboring factories have reduced the alkaline concentration, reducing algae which is the main food for the flamingo birds.

You can visit the park any time of the year and have excellent bird and game viewing. Lake Nakuru national park is 157 kilometers from Nairobi and 4 kilometers from Nakuru town.

Kenya is with no doubt one of the best tourist destinations in Africa. The various national parks, game reserves, natural forests and the rich culture of its people makes the country a premium tourist destination in East Africa. The following are some of the places you would want to visit and spend some quality time.

1. The Masai Mara Game Reserve bordering Tanzania is the most popular reserve in the country. The annual wildebeest migration between July and October is the greatest spectacle on earth. Over 1.5 million wild animals cross the border into the Mara plains in search of ripened grass and quality water. This unimaginable mass movement is an event that no visitor will not afford to miss. Animals commonly seen here include; wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, antelope, hyena, elephant, lion, leopard, black rhino, buffalo, cheetah and many bird species.

2. Mount Kenya is the second highest peak in Africa and the highest in Kenya. It was the Holy place of the Kikuyu community and, their fore-fathers prayed and offered sacrifices facing this mountain. They believed that their God (Ngai) lived on the Mount Kenya. Located North of the equator, this mountain has permanent snow throughout the year. Both local and international climbers come annually to adventure the beauty of this mountain.

Other than mountain climbing, game viewing is wonderful on Mt. Kenya National Park. Wildlife found here include the elephant, albino zebra, monkey, the buck and many more. Different types of birds have been recorded in this area. The vegetation varies as you ascend to the peak due to differences in altitude. It is an important water catchment area. In fact, 50 percent of the country water comes from here. About 70 percent of hydroelectric power is produced from mount Kenya. Mount Kenya is also a UNESCO Heritage Site.

3. Lake Nakuru, an alkaline water lake is home to over a million pink flamingo birds. The alkaline water and plenty of algae available here is ideal for the birds. These birds, including other bird species make the lake the greatest bird spectacle on earth. Apart from watching the flamingo birds, game viewing in Lake Nakuru National park is also wonderful. Wild animals in this park include the giraffe, white rhino, lion, hippo, warthog and the ostrich.

4. Tsavo National Park, which is divided into Tsavo East and Tsavo West is the largest wildlife sanctuary in Kenya. The park has a mixture of semi arid, Savannah, boabab trees, acacia woodlands and forest vegetation along four river lines. The wildlife here is in abundance. There are over 60 animal species recorded in this park. This includes the big five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo), wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, antelope and giraffe. The park is also famous for the man eating lions.

5. The Amboseli National Park is another popular tourist attraction. Located at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, this park offer a good view of Mt. Kilimanjaro. One unique thing in this park is the elephant population. This is one of the few places in Africa where visitors can view elephants at a close range. There are over 50 animal species and 400 different types of birds recorded in this park. Swamps and springs in this park are fed by underground water from the melting snow of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

6. The Kenya beaches along the Indian Ocean coastline are quite enjoyable. Relaxing on the white sand beaches and playing various beach sports is extremely fun. Swimming in the warm waters is also interesting under the hot sun. A visit to Lamu, Malindi and Watamu islands is real adventure.

The field of nursing has been one of the most stable and financially secure fields, and the need for nurses and health care staff is expected to remain high. Even in the current job market, well-trained nurses are highly sought after for a wide range of positions. The nursing professional brings plenty of opportunity for progression; the field includes Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Certified Nursing Assistants each with differing levels of education, training, and responsibilities.

A Nurse Practitioner or NP is a highly trained nursing professional with at least a master’s degree in nursing. NPs generally focus their study and practice in a specific area of medicine, such as pediatrics, internal medicine, or women’s health. NPs have been gaining increased credibility in the US in recent years and can perform much of the same work as physicians. In most states, NPs can write prescriptions and practice independently. It is even possible to find clinics or medical practices entirely staffed by NPs. NPs work in a variety of health care settings, including hospitals, private practices, research facilities, nursing schools, and health departments.

Many professionals working in the nursing field are Register Nurses or RNs, and the RN profession has been considered one of the fastest growing fields for many years. RNs perform a variety of tasks, including assess patients’ needs, record symptoms, administer medication, and collaborate with other health care professionals to provide the best patient care. RNs can be found in any area or specialization of medicine. All RNs have passed the RN licensure exam and have a vocational nursing degree, associate’s degree in nursing, or bachelor’s degree in nursing.

CNAs, or Certified Nursing Assistants, are healthcare professionals who specialize in direct patient care. CNAs are trained to take patients’ vital signs, transport patients, feedings, and assisting other nursing staff. Many organizations offer CAN training programs, which can last a couple of weeks or a couple of months. A surprisingly high number of nursing professionals begin their careers as CNAs where they learn the basics of nursing, patient care guidelines, and coordinating with healthcare professionals.

Within these different areas of nursing, additional specializations or certifications are available. Certified Nurse Anesthetists can give anesthesia to patients who are preparing to undergo surgery. A Nurse Educator, such as a Diabetes Educator, works with patients and families to ensure an understanding of medical conditions and treatments. A growing field of nursing is Public Health Nursing or PHN, which deals with treating communities as a whole by identifying concerns and designing relevant programs.

Finally, if you think a career as a CNA might be for you, you’ll want to learn more about CNA certification and CNA training.

When buying a mountain bike, the most common factors considered are how much money you want to spend and the duration that the bike will last. It is different when it comes to choosing a Mountain Bike to Fit Your Body. People are of different sizes in terms of height and weight. It is comfortable to ride a bike that compliments and holds your body in place. As a cyclist, choosing a bike designed for off the road cycling is not only safe but comfortable too. Here is a basic guide to choosing a mountain bike to Fit Your Body.

The body touches the bicycle with the hands, bottoms and the feet. The positions of the 3 will easily help you know whether you are comfortable and whether the bike is convenient for you. The items of the bike that determine these positions are, crank length, length between the crank center to saddle, saddle and seat angle and saddle offset. saddle to handlebar distance, the width and the drop of the handlebar. Crank length determines the diameter which the pedals move in. Decision of either a short or a long crank length depends on the preferred knees position during motion.

You should not forget to check the seat because it is supposed to provide comfort while riding. A seat that is not comfortable can cause a lot of uneasiness while riding. Therefore, it would be a wise option to buy a seat that offers enough comfort. To avoid other unnecessary costs, put the seat to test before purchasing it. There are seats sold in various stores and some are sweat absorbing. The height of the seat can also be adjusted as per your requirements.

Select a frame that is well cabled and has enough space to manage the mud. You should consider the style in which you ride when selecting a particular frame. You can choose from various designs available in the market today. There is front suspension, dual-suspension and hard tail models. Suspension is normally built in the frame and it is impacted by the weight which in turn has an impact on the performance of the bike.

Hard tail models have less weight and therefore require little maintenance, comfort and speed can be derived from the dual-suspension models. They are also a good preference for off the road rides. You should check your budget before selecting the frame material. Materials such as steel are heavy and most affordable. A heavy material is somewhat slow. Other materials such as Chrome, aluminum and titanium weigh less and therefore result to a high speed. These materials also happen to be very expensive to buy and maintain.

Make sure your mountain bike gives you the height of the saddle that will suit your need. For a test of this, sit straight on the saddle and hang one leg straight. Ensure that you are not moving your lower body at all then adjust the saddle to your highest point and the pedal at the lowest point of the stroke. Let the heel of your straight leg touch the pedal. If you are able to do this, it means that you will be prevented from having to send your hips rocking through every rotation of the crank.

Finally, it is advisable that, after you have checked the few mentioned among other vital features of a bike, it is important that you ride your bike for a test. This will let you know what you want to adjust and what you are comfortable with. It gives you a chance to choose exactly what you want and make necessary adjustments before the actual purchase.
