Nick Noeding Jr. is busy. Besides his Shoegaze/Down-tempo/Acousmatic/Tape music solo work as Pollination, he is also currently involved in the following projects Day Of The Woman (w/ Yppah and Stenographer), Collider (a Yppah collab), 10k Cities (a Zoomzip collab), and Slow (a Stenographer collab). And then there is also his wildlife analysis photography. Oh, and he also plays in Yppah’s live band.

So we were pretty excited to received a mixtape from Nick the other day. So, the new Slothbear digital 7″ has a sound that I love. It is the sound of jangle and distortion. Think of the guitar tone of a mid-90’s Western Mass indierock band. This release is (I assume) a teaser for a full length named Qids. Is this perhaps a play on the latin quater in die or maybe an intentionally misspelling of Kids? I’m guessing the later but I don’t think I care as long as the rest of it sounds something like this…

So, you probably heard by now that Spoon is releasing their latest LP Transference early next year somewhere around Jan 25 or 26th. It should be noted that this is the first time the band is working without a producer. So, this is what Spoon thinks Spoon should sound like without any filter (or something like that anyway).

The 1st Transference leak showed up last night, and I can’t say I absolutely love love it, but hey that’s just me. I bring you now to The Mystery Zone.

Junk Culture a/k/a Deepak Mantena has a new album on sampling label Illegal Art. The album is entitled West Coast. All the samples on said album were run through a handheld recorder giving the songs a “gritty lo-fi loop-based sound, mixing fractured vocals, pop hooks, and an overall euphoric warmth.” Sound intriguing? Listen to the trance-inducing title track…
