It is every guitar enthusiast’s dream to play a melodious lead segment on their guitar and impress everyone. And you know the amount of satisfaction that you get from successfully playing a good lead riff is something out of the world. You not only impress yourself but the entire crowd listening to you and also you can upload your video on youtube and get popular and even start a career in guitar.

Everyone who starts to learn guitar or is interested in guitar wants to play lead or riffs on their guitar QUICKLY. Fair enough! It is quite a reasonable demand. But playing a lead riff on your guitar doesn’t come quickly and requires practice, lot of consistency and the right kind of guidance. But who needs guidance anyways? I can play by just listening to the track. Yes good enough, you can certainly do that. But let me ask you something; do you know in which scale or key you are playing? Are you able to utilize the entire fret board or stuck in single position ? Can you play any of the notes in that scale randomly at any position of the fret on any of the string? Can you visualize the scale on the fret board in different patterns? There are many other questions I can ask you related to playing lead guitar. Playing a lead segment is not just listening and reproducing every note on your guitar, there are many other important aspects that you need to know to improvise your lead guitar skills. You must be thinking why I should know all these technical stuff when I just need to play the lead as it is. Yes you can be content with that, but to sound your playing more professional you must know the art of shredding. I have to say that shredding is the back bone of modern rock and heavy metal. If you don’t know shredding then you cannot be called a rock guitarist and neither can you play any lead segments by any popular band or artist perfectly.

I have created a section for my readers in my website where you will find a list of free and interesting video guitar lessons.

Now to tell you my experience, I have been playing guitar for the past one and a half decades and only after I joined a guitar course I came to know about different picking styles, arpeggios and so on. In fact I had scanned the whole internet to learn all these techniques in a professional and structured way for free without investing a penny. But I tell you, it is impossible to get structured and logical guitar lessons for free. So if you are looking for some serious guitar learning, then you must either enroll yourself with a good heavy metal guitar tutor or the easiest and affordable option is to join an online guitar course.

I have benefited from Metal Method by Doug Marks for teaching me all the latest rock and heavy metal techniques and I am immensely thankful to him.

The wide world web is literally swimming within a veritable gold mine of information, advice, products, instruction, chords and tabs for guitar players! So much so, one might presuppose that guitars and those who play them are as bountiful as mosquitoes ‘round an Arkansas cow pond in the summertime! Not surprising for an instrument which may trace its lineage back over 3000 years to Biblical times. It’s popularity is nearly unequaled by any other instrument. It’s so easy to learn that many beginners discover they can teach themselves the basics quite effectively within a comparatively short course of time. It’s portable, inexpensive ( on average ) and a beautifully versatile instrument which may remain alone, accompany a singer or be at home in an orchestra. The guitar along with its players can translate every variety of music from rock, blues, classical, folk, jazz, country, soul, pop, Latin and everything in between. So what’s new in regards to the guitar lately? Frankly, unlike the folks who play them, the instrument itself hasn’t changed very much in form and practical structure in many years not withstanding the establishment of amplification and the electric guitar. Then again, the folks who lean towards these communal instruments are varied indeed! Further, just “how” people are playing the guitar has progressed from such displays of showmanship like behind the back playing to plucking its strings with everything from tongues to toes!

Recall the Arkansas cow pond as well as the guitar’s portability? Well, those who play the guitar know that playing outdoors is especially enjoyable but it will offer its own issues. How does a player shelter his or her guitar from the negative effects of heat, sweat and grime? And how does he guarantee himself the best possible opportunity to play his finest and stay physically comfortable? Products that address a guitar player’s comfort and ability to play well during hot and sweaty sessions are few and far between.
One veteran performing songwriter recognized this and took up the challenge to develop a practical piece of gear that would help you to
play guitar without sticking to it, whether an acoustic or electric guitar player. After all, “necessity is the mother of invention”!

However; there are a plethora of gadgets and gizmos geared toward the guitar designed to facilitate with procedure and sound, but not many address the unique challenges of playing the guitar comfortably once you’ve gotten hot and sweaty. For those who’ve ever played an outside summer gig you already know as soon as you begin perspiring it makes playing your guitar a sticky venture. Logic tells any person the more comfortable we are the better we play. Countless guitar players have consigned themselves to wearing sleeves, as uncomfortable as that may be in favor of not sweating on and sticking to their guitars. Oh, they sweat a whole lot more, simply not on their guitars! And some committed performers have even taken to wearing sweatbands or wrappings on their playing arms as a way to be cooler.

Still, there may be an additional if not a better alternative. An affordable and easy leather dickey created by a performing songwriter that fits on most guitars, electric or acoustic and your playing arm glides smoothly over sweat absorbing suede leather. To the outdoor performing guitar player as well as the social player this could mean the difference between just getting through a sultry gig and really enjoying yourself. How many guitar players really need yet another tuner, capo, strap or pedal? Give a guitar player something that effectively improves his physical comfort as he’s playing and he’ll play better and longer! This guitar player would like to see further products for the guitar designed to address player comfort, wouldn’t you? Visit the following site and discover a long overdue guitar accessory specifically designed to address improve your live guitar performance. Don’t sweat the frets, play it cool in any condition!

There are many pieces of guitar music and one should be thorough with each in order to grab guitar music well. There are many types of guitars. The most familiar are the electric guitar and the box guitar. But irrespective of the kind, guitar fundamentals are standard to all types.

The body of the guitar is a hollow box on which there is a sound hole. The sound hole and the body amplify the sound produced by the strings by vibrating the air pillars in the hollow body. The neck connects the body to the headstock. The tuning pegs are mounted to the headstock.

There is an elevation on the body recognized as the bridge, onto which guitar strings are mounted. The strings begin from the tuning peg, run through the nuts, along the neck and are attached to the bridge.

There are metal perpendiculars of think strips are located in the neck of your guitar. These are recognized as frets. Sometimes the space between the two metal strips is also recognized as a fret.

The tuning pegs hold the tenseness or the tautness of the guitar strings. Tuning the guitar is done using these pegs.

In electric guitar there is no sound hole. The body too is solid. In order to amplify the sounds produced by the strings there are little microphones on the body, where the sound hole should be. These microphones are sometimes connected to amplifiers again to increase the sound even more.

Guitar fundamentals are smooth to understand once you know the fundamental pieces of the guitar.

Before you begin playing, the guitar should be tuned. people who have a musical ear can do this on their own, provided that they know the sounds of the notes well. But if you are sill learning guitar fundamentals it will be simpler to get it tuned by a pro or can seek aid online to tune your guitar.

Learning the guitar takes a lot of practice. If you have your own guitar you could self-teach or could enroll for online guitar lessons. Bookstalls have self teach guitar books costing around $6. They cover the guitar fundamentals as well as other prospects of playing such as scales, chords and approaches. But if you genuinely want to get the guitar fundamentals well, go for guitar lessons. Once you get the guitar fundamentals, the rest is smooth enough to learn through books or online.

Like all other musical tools guitars too have diverse brands. Gibson, Fender, Epiphone, Yamaha are a few popular brands. The cost differs according to the brands..

If you try to understand and apply these tips, it will be lot easier for you to learn any lead riff or lick or rhythm pattern of your favorite artist and then replicate it on your guitar.

A general tip is that, you should always start practicing the songs slowly, especially if it is a fast song and then gradually increase the speed and try to match up with the song speed. This will not only improve the dexterity and strength of your left and right fingers but also will help you play any song with perfection.

If you are looking out for learning a song from a heavy metal band with difficult lead segments then I would suggest you learn the shredding methods. Shredding consists of a set of playing styles that is used in different combination in a song. Usually you will find shredding widely being used in Rock n’ roll, Heavy Metal and blues. It includes different types of picking, tapping, arpeggios etc.

Now I will give you a brief understanding of different methods to learn to play songs on your guitar.

They are,
* Tabs
* Learning by hearing

Tabs – Tabs is the most popular method used for learning songs. You can either buy them from a musical store or you can find thousands of them on the internet. But the ones you get from an authentic guitar course or musical store will be more perfect than the amateur ones that you find on the internet. Tabs usually provide you the notes and also show you how to play them, by representing the fret and position on your guitar. And It will contain both the rhythm part and lead segment, mostly printed on the same page.
If you are completely new to tabs, then there is a certain level of learning associated with it. In order to make things easier, I would highly recommend you to first learn the musical theory and the standard musical notations and then couple them with the tabs..

Learning by hearing – You can also learn a song by listening to it from a record or from your tutor or from a concert video. Though learning by ear might sound hard a bit hard, it is a lot easier to do it. But for making things really easier it is very much recommended to know the scale and music theory in general i.e. musical notations and tabs, how to read them and most importantly to build scales and chords. Since chords are built from various degrees or notes on a scale, you must know how to build scales first. If you know these basic things, learning by ear is just a walk in the park.
Scale or Chord Theory – I will quickly introduce you to one of the basic scales in music and will show you how chords are derived from it.

So let’s take the most basic diatonic scale – C Major. The notes in this scale are

C – 1st note – Tonic
D – 2nd note – Supertonic
E – 3rd note – Mediant
F – 4th note – Subdominant
G – 5th note – Dominant
A – 6th note – Relative minor
B – 7th note – Leading note
C – 8th note – Octave

The chord progression of a typical song is usually built from the Tonic, Sub-dominant and the Dominant notes of a scale. So if we apply the same chord progression on the above scale we will have the chords C Major, F Major and G major chords respectively. But there is no strict rule as such and you can surely use any combination of degrees in that scale to build a chord progression.

You will find ads of various DVD based video guitar lessons all over the internet. But it is very hard to find out which one is good for you, which suits your requirements etc. You will also find many reviews on the internet praising the courses from top to bottom, but most of the reviews are copies of the other saying the same things over and over. And I am sure most of them wouldn’t have even seen the real course or tried them out on their own.

So, in order to give you an authentic and first hand information about the course I am going to share some knowledge that I gained from a DVD based video guitar course that I joined lately, so that you will have a better idea about what to expect from it. Let me ask you something. Why do you want to learn guitar in the first place? Obviously to play some popular songs, solos or riffs on it, right? Fortunately this one is designed in a more practical and modern way unlike other courses, so that you will get a strong basic foundation on guitar as well as learn all the essential techniques required to play heavy metal, rock n’ roll or blues.

If you are in interested in Rock n’ roll or heavy metal, you might have heard about the word shredding. I am going to elaborate few playing techniques used in shredding. Shredding is associated mainly with heavy metal, rock and blues guitar playing and is nothing but playing fast leads or solos on your electric guitar by applying certain right hand techniques like different types of picking, like

•	Alternate picking
•	Economy picking
•	Sweep picking and so on

And various left hand legato techniques like

•	Pull offs
•	Hammer ons
•	Tapping

Shredding requires a lot of practice and creativity and also involves a great amount of whammy bar usage or tremolo arm as it is commonly known. Other techniques used while shredding are

•	Multi finger tapping
•	Trills( either using hammer ons or pull offs or by using whammy bar)

A shredder should also be well versed with sweep picked arpeggios, arpeggios, palm muting and power chords. In fact an expert shredder is a person who invents a new technique on his own and adds that to the list of shredding techniques.

Now I will explain some of the techniques in detail. Let’s take the first one
Alternate Picking – This is a playing technique where the player uses the pick or plectrum to play the strings in alternate up and down fashion. This picking style is the best for playing speedy riffs and leads, and the play usually adds other shredding techniques like legato, hammer ons and pull offs to bring about melody and beauty to the solo.

Legato – Legato is an Italian word meaning a smooth transitioning from one note to the other without any intermediate silence. Lets take legato style Hammer ons, this is a guitar playing technique where in you pluck an open string once and use one of your fretting fingers to gently tap any of the fret to create the sound of that fret without plucking. So the second note is created without plucking. Pull off is exactly opposite to hammer on.

But let me tell you, employing these techniques skillfully in your solos is a real art and it can only be accomplished by years of practice, determination and patience. And I am fortunate enough to be at the right place. Doug Mark’s Metal Method course has got matured and evolved over a period of 28 years now. It is the precise and clear teaching method by Doug that is the strength of the course.

Did you ever think of learning the guitar? Today more and more people want to learn the guitar. How come the guitar became so popular? Perhaps it is because the guitar is very portable and you can take it with you anywhere you go? Or maybe it’s because it’s practically a “one man band”? Or perhaps it helps you get a lot of attention? With so many good reasons for wanting to learn the guitar it is very surprising how low the number of people actually learning it is. Then what is it that stops people from picking up that guitar and start learning it? I’ve been teaching my students on how to play the guitar for over 20 years and I observed that usually people come up with these 3 excuses:

1 I Don’t Have Enough Time

I don’t know why but almost everyone is convinced that learning the guitar would take a lot of their time. I’m sure you are probably thinking this is true in your life? Well, all you need is 10 minutes per day. If you stick to this schedule, I wouldn’t be surprise if you become a great guitarist in no time. There are many people that I know that became excellent guitar players in a year with this schedule!

2 It’s Too Difficult To Learn

True! At first the guitar might seem difficult to a beginner. But, if you survive the very beginning and it’s awkward stage, about a month or so, you will be playing the guitar with much ease. The lack of calluses is what makes it so hard in the beginning. You need about a month of practice to build them up in your fingers. Also, it seems that many students end up practicing even longer after they get over the awkward stage. It’s not because they just want to get better. But, because it brings them so much joy that they want to do it. So, it’s really not that hard, if you survive the first month.

3 Lessons Are Just Too Expensive

This was the case long time ago. Now there are about 4 different avenues you can go down. Online guitar lessons for beginners, & Guide books. Many colleges offer guitar classes. Online beginner guitar lessons are amazing in my opinion. I’m a private instructor myself because I love teaching people guitar. However, after reviewing some of these online guitar lessons I found them to be of excellent quality. These lessons range anywhere from $12.95/mo to $19.95 a month. You would end up paying around $30/hr for private lessons. It’s very important to look at some good reviews though. Not all of them offer high quality and you should only get the best.

So, what are you waiting for? Start learning to play the guitar now!

The guitar is loved by nearly everyone. Why is that? Could it be because it is so easy to bring with you everywhere? It is easy to sing along with? Or, as David Gilmore of Pink Floyd have said before, “when you strum a guitar you have everything. Bass, rhythm and melody”. Whatever the reason, the fact remains that it is the most popular instrument to learn. This is why it is easier now then ever to learn the guitar. So many companies offer to teach it to you. But you have to be careful. So many fall short of quality.

Let us take a look at the choices for guitar lessons for beginners:

#1 Private Guitar Lessons

Private guitar lessons are the most popular and the oldest tradition in learning how to play the guitar. This is a great way for learning the guitar if you can get a good instructor. You would want an instructor who specializes in the specific genre of music you are interested in, otherwise you will be changing instructors constantly. Also, private guitar lessons can end up costing a lot of money, as you pay on hourly bases. The average cost runs about $40/hr.

#2 Guide Books

This is great if you want a cheap way to learn the guitar, but you have to be very self motivated. Guide books can only show you photos of where to place your fingers. It will be hard for you to know if it sounds correct or even if you have your guitar tuned right. Guide books can work out nicely if you have already taken lessons and now just want to advance your skills. Anyway you look at it, a guide book is always great for reference. However, it’s the cheapest method if you’re looking for cost savings. I learned my first six chords from a guide book without any physical instruction.

#3 DVD’s & Video Instruction

These, simply put, are amazing. Over the years DVD’s and Video Instruction has improved 10 fold. The video quality is outstanding and they’ve pretty much perfected and revised the lessons over the years from frequently asked questions of students. However, you will usually be taught by one instructor and lessons are not updated unless you buy the latest copies of DVD’s. All in all a perfect place to start!

#4 Online Guitar Lessons

This is what everyone is talking about in the guitar industry and not without a cause. It is the closest to the private instruction as it can get. However, you get much more with the online guitar lessons. You will be taught by several different instructors. Each instructor is specialized in a certain genre you want to play. Most online guitar lessons have live instructors you can ask questions from and the lessons are always updated. Also, they have online communities set up like social networks where you can hook up with other aspiring guitarists like yourself. The prices are not bad either. The lessons cost $12.95/mo to $19.95/mo, you can cancel at any time, and the instructors come from very prestigious schools such as Berkley School of Music. No matter who you are, I think online guitar lessons is the best choice. If it’s beginner guitar lessons, or more advanced techniques you are looking for, they have them all.

Hope this helps. Hope you enjoy learning the guitar!

I was doing one of my regular researches the other day and came across a few articles, stating a very interesting fact. They claimed that the number of guitarists in the U.S. is in the tens of thousands. Does it seem like a big number to you? But, if you knew that we have 307 million people living in America, would you still think it’s a big number? As I kept on reading the article I came across another fascinating fact. It stated that as many as 1 out of 3 people have attempted to learn the guitar. That is a lot of people trying to learn the guitar! Then why aren’t we playing our favorite songs? Well, there is an explanation. The 1 reason is people think it will be too difficult and they don’t have the time. Well, trust me it’s not as difficult as you think. Let us take a look at how you can learn to play songs.

It would be beneficial if you start out by learning 5 basic chords. They are C, A, G, E & D. Why these chords you may ask? They build a foundation to most songs, with a few variations. It also helps if you learn to change in between chords fast. If you can change these chords quickly? You will be able to change any chords fast. You can easily find these chord on almost any good guitar site for free. Especially if its a beginner guitar lessons website. As soon as you get a hang of these chords you will notice how easy they become to play all of the sudden. Now, a lot of instructors believe it is very important to learn rhythm right away along with the chords. I tend to disagree with them however, because you have already heard the songs that you want to learn so many times before. You should be able to tell if it sound right or not. The rhythm will become natural the moment you start singing your song as you play the chords. I am not saying that you are going to be a master guitar player. But, I am telling you that you can start playing your favorite songs right away.

Nowadays all you have to do to find the songs you want to learn is just go on the internet. Almost all of the songs will only have the lyrics with the proper chords located above the words. These are not just the chords to the songs. The chord name (ex. G) must be located above the exact word that the chord change is made. Once you learn the basic chords you will easily be able to manipulate other chords if the song that you’re learning doesn’t have C, A, G, E or D in it. Also most songs have a minor chord in them somewhere. It will be easy for you to play those chords after you learn the major ones.

So, just give it a try. Go to any guitar website that features guitar lessons for beginners. They should have these chord examples and diagrams on them or a chord generator. Start by playing the first chord to the song. This will give you the key. Then, start singing the song. Once you get to the words with the chord above it, play that chord. It’s not hard. So start learning your favorite songs today? The guitar is not that difficult!

Contrary to what you think, playing songs on the guitar is easy. I know I know. In the beginning the guitar can seem quite difficult. Nothing that a little practice won’t fix. It’s a known fact that many people playing the guitar can’t even read the music. That’s right! Not even one note. Maybe that’s why most people prefer the guitar as their musical instrument. Plus, you don’t need other musical instruments to go with it. All of the major components required for a good musical song can be found in one guitar. It has bass, rhythm and melody.

Let us now take a look at things needed for learning songs on the guitar.

The Basic Chords

C, A, G, E & D. This is called the CAGED method. This particular method is used to allow you to change chords into many different shapes fast when practicing them. Most guitar lessons for beginners start you out with the CAGED method. This is probably the most difficult thing every beginner must go through. There is a very good reason for this pattern however. If you learn the CAGED method first, you will be able to play pretty much everything else.

Basic Rhythm

Basic guitar strumming consists of a series of down and up strokes. The song gets its unique rhythm when you put these strokes in different orders. Example: Strumming the guitar like; Down, Down, Down + up, Down. Changing this order will give you something like; Down + up, Down, Down, Down or Down+up Down+up Down Down. You catch my drift? You should practice these different patterns along with the CAGED method. Now does this seem too difficult?

Learning Songs

It is finally time to start playing some of the songs you like. Many online sites offer them for free. The lyrics will simply be written like a poem with the guitar chord names directly above the words that that chord is to be played exactly. Observe I said exactly.. If you change the chord too soon and otherwise you will mess up the song.

Playing your favorite songs is much easier, since you know what they sound like. It shouldn’t take you that long to start playing song on the guitar, just as long as you practice. I guess the guitar is not that hard after all! And then you can move up from beginner guitar lessons and play more advanced music.
