The racism claims are getting really old

This is from a forum I have been on lately (918moms.com). There is a political forum and I just couldn't help myself when they asked a question about the whole "racism" thing in regards to opposition to the President's healthcare plan. Most people said it's ridiculous to say the opposition is due to racism, and of course it is. The words in italics are the other person and everything else is my response.

I really don't know if this is worthy of a response, but let me take your extremely weak argument apart piece by sad piece.

I feel that those opposed to President Obama's healthcare plan must be one of three things 1. The wealthiest of americans,
So what if they are? It's not true, but so what if it were? How many poor people do you know that provide jobs for others? And how horrible of wealthy people (or any people for that matter) to not want their hard earned wealth confiscated by the force of the federal government and given to people who did not earn it. Whatever you think about the wealthy, most wealthy people did not inherit it.

2. just plain stupid and totally ignorant about the plan (which indeed would help us become a better nation and put an end to corporate greed aka insurance companies)

This is the typical response of a liberal who cannot argue a point based on merit. I am just the opposite, and so is everyone I know of who opposes the healthcare plan. In fact, the reason we so vehemently oppose it is because we know what is in it. You see, there is this pesky little thing called the Constitution. You may have heard of it. In fact, today is it's birthday. The Constitution does not give the federal government permission to force people to pay for any goods or services they do not wish to purchase. Can you tell me how it will help us "become a better nation"? Is that what happens when you take from me to give to someone else? How long will you pillage the pocket of your neighbor before he decides to stop being a producer and has nothing left for you to take? How about telling me how this bill will "put an end to corporate greed aka insurance companies"? I guess we will replace one greedy entity with another. At least an insurance company can be held accountable. You can sue them or you can replace them. When the federal government is the only provider of healthcare, where will you go then when you are wronged?

3. just plain prejudice ( we would like to pretend it doesn't exist but here in the good ole south where many still fly confederate flags we know it runs deep.)

Quite frankly, this is one of the stupidest and most illogical things I have read in a long time. Racism still exists, yes, but not nearly so much as the race baiters would have you believe. I don't know anyone who cares one bit about race. People care about values and whether or not you are a good person, not what pigment your skin is. Can you explain how opposition to a government controlled healthcare system is due to prejudice? Who would we be prejudiced against? Barack Obama? Does it occur to you that we might just think his policies suck? Government run healthcare was a bad idea when Hillary Clinton proposed it too.

Plus have any of you researched socialism and what it really means?
It actually means fairness to the people

Fairness? Are you serious? If what you mean by fair is that everyone is equally miserable, then you are correct. I don't call it fair to take from someone what they earned and give it to someone else. I don't call it fair to pay oppressively high taxes just because you have succeeded. Not only is it not fair, it is also immoral.

and i can assure you that it is way better than capitilism (which is what we have now, which allows corporations to stop at nothing for more power and control regardless of who it hurts).

Capitalism allows corporations to stop at nothing for more power and control regardless of who it hurts? I think you just described our Federal Government. Capitalism is what made this country what it is. We have more wealth than any other nation. Our poorest people often have cars, televisions and cell phones. Would you be opposed to capitalism if you came up with a great invention, got it patented and became rich? Capitalism is the single greatest economic system is the world. You can be successful if you want to in this country. If you work hard, you can get far. You don't have to be born into a particular family or class of people. Does that mean everyone will be rich? No. Does that mean everyone will succeed at every business venture they ever try? No. But it means they are free to try. Success doesn't always mean wealth. You can be successful as a waitress at a small cafe if that is what you choose, or what your choices in life have led to. It is all about perspective.

So yes I think that racism is rampant where I live, have you ever seen one black person at any of these weird tea parties?

In one word, YES!! I sure have, actually more than one. Are you saying you attended a tea party? Which one?

Lets all give Obama a chance, what we were doing certainly hasn't worked

Actually, it has worked for well over 200 years now. What exactly isn't working in your opinion? The majority of people in this country are happy with their current healthcare situation.

and he is actually educated and not a former cokehead like bush was!!!

More of the name calling because you can't argue a point. Obama smoked pot and did cocaine. He says so in his book Dreams from My Father. Is it a character flaw to be able to overcome addiction? Are you saying that people cannot change? That flies in the face of your liberal ideology. Also, do you know Barack Obama's grades when he was at Columbia or Occidental? Then you are one of the few, because he has not released that information. George W Bush got an MBA from Harvard Business School, after getting his bachelor's degree from Yale. Are those generally schools for stupid people?

How the Healthcare Bill (house version) kills insurance companies

Larry, a commenter on the previous post, buys Obama's explanation that there are a lot of lies about the healthcare bill. Sadly, Larry, most everything you have heard, shocking though it is, is true.

From Investor's Business Daily, who has an entire series on the healthcare bill:

When we first saw the paragraph Tuesday, just after the 1,018-page document was released, we thought we surely must be misreading it. So we sought help from the House Ways and Means Committee.

It turns out we were right: The provision would indeed outlaw individual private coverage. Under the Orwellian header of "Protecting The Choice To Keep Current Coverage," the "Limitation On New Enrollment" section of the bill clearly states:

"Except as provided in this paragraph, the individual health insurance issuer offering such coverage does not enroll any individual in such coverage if the first effective date of coverage is on or after the first day" of the year the legislation becomes law.

So we can all keep our coverage, just as promised — with, of course, exceptions: Those who currently have private individual coverage won't be able to change it. Nor will those who leave a company to work for themselves be free to buy individual plans from private carriers.

Here's a place you can read the bill. Go to that section yourself. The one called "Protecting the Choice to Keep Current Coverage" Read there and you will see. You get to keep your coverage. But the moment it changes, you are out, and the insurance company is not allowed to issue new policies.

What Sarah Palin said about the "Death Panels" is not necessarily in the bill at this time, but her comments on that come from Ezekiel Emmanuel, one of the President's advisors who wrote about considering usefulness to society when deciding who gets healthcare. There you go. There's rationing, and death panels all in one fell swoop. Again, from IBD:

The concept behind deciding who lives and who dies and how finite resources should be allocated was described by key Obama health care adviser Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, brother to White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

In his paper, "Principles for Allocation of Scarce Medical Interventions," he expounds on what he calls "The Complete Lives System" for allocating treatments and resources.

"When the worse-off can benefit only slightly while better-off people could benefit greatly," he says, "allocating to the better-off is often justifiable."

As for employers dropping coverage and insurance companies losing people, this is another way the government will take over the insurance industry. I don't know where I heard this argument (probably Mark Levin) but it makes a lot of sense. Let's say a company is paying 15% for employees to have health insurance. The healthcare bill fines an employer 8% for not providing insurance. Why wouldn't that company save itself 7% (I guess this would be of gross profits maybe) and just drop coverage? Many businesses will do just that and let their employees pick up government coverage instead.

Obama is going to destroy this country one way or another

I am listening to the Obamacare speech. My God, he is such a liar. Oh, so Obamacare will not insure illegal immigrants. Right. And no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions.

No, you jerk. We believe government will takeover the insurance industry because it is true! It's right there in the bill that if your insurance changes in any way, you will not be able to keep it.

He actually said that companies that don't provide health insurance have an "unfair advantage" over other companies. Is he saying that all companies should be equal? How far a step is it to demand that all people be equal and all wealth be redistributed?

Breaking News: Insurance companies try to make money. They are not charities, for crying out loud!! We have such a sense of entitlement in this country. I am uninsurable. We cannot get private health insurance because of an incurable genetic disease I have. So my husband makes sure that he is able to be covered under a group policy. If he had to go out and get a crappy job that he hated, he would do that because that's what it takes.

What is wrong with people paying for the services they receive?

I'm against Medicare, President Obama. I am also against Social Security. I am also against the Federal Department of Education. I am against Government interfering where it is not allowed by the Constitution.

I can't take him anymore. I look forward to Mark Levin ripping him apart when KFAQ airs it after the speech.

United States: Land of Entitlement

I have been thinking about the "Cash for Clunkers" program and many other things in the news lately. A lot of our society, I think, would be totally ashamed to go on welfare. These same people, however, would think nothing of going down to the local car dealership and getting car welfare. They might even be excited about "free" health care. I see people on Facebook commenting on how bad their insurance is, how much they had to pay for some procedure, etc. Do people not even realize what insurance is anymore? It was never intended to cover 100% of every single thing that might ever come up. One of my husband's FB friends was complaining that his father had cancer and ended up with 300k in medical bills and how much we need this "reform" Obama is promising. When did we start thinking we are entitled to have everything given to us? Would this same person be outraged if he showed up at closing to sell his house and the buyer said, "I don't think I should have to pay for this house! I need it. It should be free!" Nothing is free. Someone, somewhere is paying for it. This idea that we deserve things just because we live and breathe is ridiculous. I hope that people are waking up and we will once again return to a time where people worked their butts off to get ahead instead of expecting things to be given to them. We are entitled to nothing except our freedom!
