They have stepped out and have, or are in process of proving their theories and strategies. The rest of the world follows them because the have the battle scars, temperance, and skill set to kill it and they possess a deep desire to share their knowledge with others. They take full responsibility for their own life as well of those around them - it’s not what leaders know that makes them leaders, its what they do that does.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Those that don't know (followers) - These are people that have a desire to learn. Good followers are invaluable, as they validate our leaders - and it is here that ALL Leaders are born. All leaders have at some point been exemplary followers. If you follow the right people, you're pretty safe here - although, if you're not careful, you can follow the wrong people into a ditch.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Those that think they know (imitators) - These are those that think they are leaders, promote themselves to positions of leadership and just use the material of leaders to prop themselves up. The problem with these folks is they contain very little substance when it comes to navigating through troubled waters and making the necessary adjustments to weather the storms and arrive safely at the desired destination. Plenty of shipwrecks take place as a result of poor leadership.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Those that don’t want you to know (Reprobates) - It's not about leading or following here, its all about ME. What’s in it for me and how it benefits me, with absolutely no thought as to how it will affect others - taking advantage of weaknesses in others, scheming their way to the top at all costs - representing themselves to be all that is good and decent in the world, when reality, they'll do or say anything just to get in your pocket or get ahead in life.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In today's social media age and the transparency it provides, there really is no excuse to get caught up with imitators, flakes or reprobates. It's very easy to get information or even a recommendation on people you would like to do business with or just connect with. There are established trustworthy leaders with an army of good soldiers willing to give, serve and protect anyone that has a desire to learn, grow and better themselves in any area of their life.  &lt;span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"&gt;And the Lord said, "Behold, they are one people and they have all one language; and this is only the beginning of what they will do, and now nothing they have imagined they can do will be impossible for them."&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I'm not going religious here - just hope to get you thinking of the possibilities...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;From the beginning of time until now, everything that exists was born from people communicating. There is nothing that exists that didn't come forth from communication. To consider what can be accomplished in the world by united communications and coming together with one mind one purpose and one goal is a pretty phenomenal thought.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As a divided people, we have made breath-taking advancements in technology. Things that were once thought to be impossible are now becoming a reality everyday. It won't be long before we're living for a thousand years, traveling at the speed of thought, communicating through brain waves… and what, you think I’m nuts? We’ll see...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We are enterning an age where once again, nothing shall be impossible to us - no more divisions, no more nonsense and no more blindness. Accomplishing the impossible will become a daily routine. We've only been limited by our ignorance and communication breakdown.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Social technologies are rapidly changing this. These applications may not be the end-all technology breakthroughs, however, they are having a significant impact on our social behavior and the way we communicate. It's bringing people together and fulfiling a desire for many who want to be connected and understand others in distant places - to be united and understand the common threads which bind us together as one people.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;At some point in the not so distant future, communication for the entire global population will once again be made possible by language technology. This fluid transparent form of communication will remove barriers, dispel misconceptions and misunderstandings and reveal the folly of our ways. Problems exist and thrive in our divisions - 100% of the solutions lay in embracing and uniting our diversity, our uniqueness and the brilliance found in all.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I wonder where we would be today had they finished building that tower? It's not what you've made in the past that matters, but what you've managed to keep that does.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Instant Gratification&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Saving for the moment is no fun; we are raised in a society that wants instant gratification right now! A typical scenario that is played out over and over again by business owners and Entrepreneurs alike is when they began to have monetary success, the tendancy is to go into to debt in order to live an 'upgraded' lifestyle... to have all those things they've always dreamed of, but never had. This short term thinking can lead to a broke future.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This usually develops into the "keeping up with the Jones" mentality, where success is measured by the car you drive and house you live in. Every dollar made pays debt service that is sustaining a certain lifestyle that, in most cases, is above and beyond your means. More is never enough to fulfill an out of control appetite for more stuff and saving is not even an option at this point.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Building Wealth&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Unless you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, in order to start securing your financial future and build wealth, you need to make a comitment with yourself to put a certain percentage of every dollar you ever make in this world into savings. No matter what, even if death is the price to pay, you don't touch your savings. Period. Anyone that can do this has the ability to accumalte wealth, even with a nominal income, that can provide for a comfortable retirement, or be preserved and passed on to your children.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You don't have to make millions to become wealthy and just because you've made millions doesn't guarantee you'll be wealthy.  Acquiring wealth initially comes down to the disipline and commitment to saving money. &lt;br /&gt;Ordinary people thrive on positive reinforcement, while Entrepreneurs thrive in the face of skeptics and doubters. It's not natural to thrive in this environment, however, for the Entrepreneur, it defines their character. It inspires the sheer act of will and tenacity that drives them beyond the ordinary to the extra-ordinary and it empowers them to literally create the future for all.
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;Every building you see, every community, city, village, business, product; EVERYTHING started in the mind of an Entrepreneur that first imagined something out of thin air and then dressed it with reality. In most, if not all cases - they accomplished these feats while being ridiculed by naysayers. Now that is unnatural, or supernatural, depending how you see it and that is what sets Entrepreneurs apart from ordinary people.

&lt;br /&gt;Being an Entrepreneur requires obvious talents, including vision - the ability to perceive opportunity - the motivation, drive and ability to inspire and move people and resources to make things happen; and most importantly - you must not only be impervious to the negativity and criticism of others, but inspired by it.

This comes from a man that has has been wildly successful in business, marriage, family, friendships and life in general...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mark,&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One can only be true to the ideal of LOVE of FAMILY!!!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For all things done are insignificant without the desire to provide for those who we cherish. After that comes friendships that we hold dear. Consequently, the grind comes down to many additional sacrifices that each of us must endure.... or, the trials of a life's journey. I truly believe in the ideology of the Behaviorist, B.F. Skinner, who put forth my daily mantra which is as follows: "SUCCESSIVE APPROXIMATION". I try to come close, but never ever come near any type of perfection.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Thus, I am imperfect, yet ever searching for wealth of spirit, desire, and a sense of worth on every front. It does not control me, but Capitalism does create an opportunity to provide a means to an end. I embrace the ideology, but am never controlled or entangled in its web. My belief is that the statement "power corrupts absolutely" is a truism. The true measure of a human being is what they do with power. Most with power abuse same.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Though I don't know the future of issues, I do know that I am unable to control others with any certainty. So, I will attempt to interact and handle my sphere of influence as positively as humanly possible. That is all I can do!!!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;America is an enigma. Yes, a puzzle and "one of a kind". Often the attempt is to emulate our way of life. And, on the other hand hate us for what we possess. The dichotomy of Freedom for those that have it often times do not embrace its amazing virtues. Those that do not have Freedom know that they want it and will sacrifice all that they have and are to enrich their lives.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mark, convince yourself of your real worth. This is naturally spreading the wealth, not by taking from those that have earned and accumulated wealth with brains and hard work; but by leveling the playing field and creating new opportunities for those desiring to be part of it. &lt;br /&gt;What we experiencing in the economy are the results of a manipulative and take mindset that was fueled by greed. The introduction and popularity of social media platforms into society and business is certainly changing the landscape.  &lt;p&gt;In the past, mainstream media outlets have been controlled by money. If you had the financial wherewithal to utilize the power of all forms of media, including TV, radio, billboards, newspapers, magazines, to name a few, you could buy a market. Today, social media is rapidly changing this. The power to reach the masses is transitioning into the hands of the people. I like that. I don't think that power should be controlled by just a few. It's been abused. Maybe not by intent, but it is what it is. That much control over the power to influence the masses on the planet is bound to the warp the minds of those with the best intentions.&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;Society is changing. I believe in people. I believe the majority of people have integrity. I think most people in the world have something to give. They want to make the world a better place. They haven't been corrupted by large sums of money and power that can corrupt the purest of souls. I'm not against money, or making a lot of money. However, money and power does seem to go hand in hand with corruption.&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p&gt;Individuals that recognize the irrelevance of self, self-interest and self-promotion in business and recognize the vast opportunities that are available to serve the needs of others and society as a whole; these will be the business leaders of the future. It's not because you shouldn't make money or be compensated for your efforts, it's because until you've proven yourself to be a valuable resource willing and able to serve and provide for a need in society, you won't gain the trust of the consumer. Being in business for the sake of making money isn’t enough. Why? Because there too many people in business that are passionate about what they do and in this day and age, consumers can tell the difference. It inspired the following thoughts… &lt;p&gt;The secret to living a successful life is to invest your life into things you’re passionate about. You’ll never find true happiness and success until you fulfill the burning desires that drive the passion within you.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Doing what you hate because you believe it’s necessary in order to be responsible is only true if you believe it. This couldn’t be farther from the truth. It’s a death trap that once it gets a hold of you, can rob you of years and even an entire lifetime.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;The responsible thing to do is be true to yourself first… a bit self-centered – yes, but the truth is, the quality of your own life will have a significant impact on the influence you have, good or bad, on every person that is part of your life.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Ever been around someone who hates what they do? Ever been around someone that constantly complains? Ever been around people that have many regrets? In being “responsible,” they’ve lost their passion for life – they’ve lost their way and as a result, the influence they have on others is very negative. Worse yet, is they attract other people with the same attitudes, regrets and complaints. This debilitating habit will lead you to a lifetime of tomorrow's that never come.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Two underlying causes of procrastination are a fear of failure and setting standards so high that they can never be reached. The story that vividly sticks in my mind is "Three Feet From the Gold". It was the story of R.U. Darby, a man whose conviction and determination got him three feet from one of the largest gold discoveries in U.S.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The moral of this story is; YOU are closer than you realize to embracing the success you hunger for, if you don't quit.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;After securing the funding, acquiring the necessary equipment and years of hard work, he quit three feet from making millions of dollars and getting paid for the work and effort he put into the project. A junk man he sold his equipment to picked-up where Darby had left off and he made millions of dollars from all Darby had invested into the gold mine.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A tough lesson in life for sure; although, all was for not. It gave Darby the "stick-ability" required to become a multi-millionaire. By simply saying to himself, "I stopped three feet from gold, but I will never stop because men say 'no' when I ask them to buy insurance," he went on to make millions in the insurance industry.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There is no straight line to success. There will be defeat and even failures along the way. Count on it. Just write it into the plan. The easiest thing to do in these situations is to quit and that is precisely what most people do, because they're not prepared for it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;As Mr. Hill writes - "failure is a trickster with a keen sense of irony and cunning. It takes great delight in tripping one when success is almost within reach."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The important thing to see here is that failure is a trick. Things are not what they appear. More importantly, the success you've been searching for is found in the temporary disappointments from the defeat and failures that have over taken you. It's the moment that is &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1"&gt;neglected&lt;/span&gt; most. When older folks share their life experiences, more often than not, I hear how they wished they had spent more time with their children, their family and friends, doing those things they missed out on, because, well, they were just too busy. Most people would do things completely different and be much more thoughtful of the gift of life, if given another chance.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Life flies by as we get older. What seems like yesterday was decades ago. How many &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2"&gt;cherished&lt;/span&gt; moments have passed you by? Slow down, stop thinking and start BEING. This day may be your last; the last time you spend time with your kids, the last time you see your spouse, the last time you see your friends and co-workers. If you knew today was your last day, how would you live it? What would you say to your loved ones? Are those problems really as big as they appear to be? THEY ABSOLUTELY ARE NOT.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Evaluate those things that occupy your energy, your time and your attention - you'll find that many of those things don't deserve that much of you. If you're not careful and thoughtful, every moment that is WORTHY your time, energy and attention will be consumed with other crap that ISN'T.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Don't be someone that has to look at pictures from years past to re-live &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3"&gt;cherished&lt;/span&gt; moments... be aware and intently &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4"&gt;conscious&lt;/span&gt; of every day, every relationship and every minute that you have the &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5"&gt;privilege&lt;/span&gt; of being part of; otherwise, your moments will be stolen from you and you won't even notice it until they've passed you bye.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Clarity is only found in the moment. The past is done and tomorrow may not come. Truth is, fear is paralyzing... it builds up a feeling of anxiousness that makes doing the necessary things to ensure the quality of your future nearly impossible to do. The strong and the weak go through the same struggles of life and both survive; however, the strong excel and grow through it and the weak toil their way through.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The strong have a sense of who they are and a vision of where they desire to go and don't stop until they reach their destination; they have no choice, they have to be (come) what they are. The weak are tossed to and fro by the storms of life - landing wherever life blows them and then they blame their circumstances for all their problems. They have no sense of who they are, why they are, or what they are suppose to do in life. On one hand, it's easier to be weak - you don't have to own up to your mistakes and flaws and always have an easy way out... just blame someone else. However, on the flip-side, it sure can be a tormenting existence. Confusion, emptiness, defeat and depression devours the weak. The strong feed on challenges, excel in change, and always look inwardly to change their circumstances. Their strength is found in the people's lives they make better, not tearing others down as the weak do.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We are all just individual pieces of life that have the ability to create our life as we see it, or be dominated by it through ignorance - and yes, that choice is 100% completely in your hands. That's news to me... I'm sorry, but I wasn't aware that the rules, standards and practices have already been fully realized and established. Who makes up the rules, standards and practices anyway? And... when, or if they are established, is everyone going to agree? Is everyone going to follow the rules? Will everyone do it the same? I doubt it...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I thought would be fitting to include a link to &lt;a href="http://twitter.com/kyleplacy"&gt;Kyle Lacy's&lt;/a&gt; latest post - &lt;a href="http://kylelacy.com/what-the-crap-is-social-media/"&gt;"What The F**K is Social Media?"&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It seems to me that you can participate in social media communities anyway you see fit. If you're doing business and making no money, you'll probably adjust your strategy. If you're just participating to meet new friends and chat about your favorite hobbies and no one talks to you, you'll probably figure out a more effective way to make friends online. The point is, there is still discovery in progress and there is much to learn about how to effectively participate in social media.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Even the strategy of social media rock stars are changing as a direct result of their experience as pointed out in this post by &lt;a href="http://twitter.com/jimconnolly"&gt;Jim Connolly&lt;/a&gt; - &lt;a href="http://jimsmarketingblog.com/2009/08/03/scoble-twitter-and-the-wisedom-of-the-crowd/"&gt;"Scoble, Twitter and the wisdom of the crowd!" &lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;While there may be positive results being realized in certain business uses of social media, i.e. marketing, networking, generating traffic, etc., the reason people buy products remains the same. I mean, people buy a brand because that brand resonates with them. They like the brand or they wouldn't spend money on it, right? So, in today's social media age, brands will have to figure out how to communicate effectively with consumers in order to stay relevant... just like they did when they communicated through television, radio and print. Social media is just another communication medium for brands to communicate with consumers - albeit, much more interactive; regardless, the results will be determined by how effectively they do this.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The largest segment of participants in social media are just ordinary people living life and sharing their opinions, asking questions, sharing knowledge, learning new things, keeping in touch with friends and just communicating and connecting in general. There really isn't anything earth-shatteringly different about real-life and cyber-life relationships. Social media is about people. Before social media, it was about people. After social media, it will be about people. Social media isn't going to change people. I mean, business people will hang out with other business people, extremist with extremist, optimist with optimists; we are drawn to other like-minded individuals through communication. There will also always be idiots to deal with too, as pointed out in this post by &lt;a href="http://twitter.com/ConversationAge"&gt;Valeria Maltoni -&lt;/a&gt; &lt;a href="http://www.conversationagent.com/2009/08/work-in-progress.html"&gt;"Work-in-Progress"&lt;/a&gt;  (well, she didn't point them out as idiots)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The one thing that social media has done is break-down the barriers of access to meet and build relationships with other like-minded people all over the world. That small business providing products or services to the local community can now expand without borders; that small group of friends you have off-line can turn into an international tribe online. You can pretty much contact and converse with anyone, anywhere, anytime on the planet. But, the end result is the same. People, personalities and relationships drive the human experience and it will continue to be so until life as we know it comes to an end. Whether for business or recreational use, social media is driven by human-beings communicating - and the results will be determined by how effectively, or not, that you do this.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Am I missing something here? In order to bring about change in your life, you must change the environment you're in. If that doesn't change, nothing will change. Your environment is shaping you and either enabling, or preventing the results you desire out of life. Yes, I am talking about family members and old friends. I am not suggesting to stop loving these people, but I am suggesting that if they are not driving you closer to your goals, they are keeping you from them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Have any of those people in your close circle ever told you that you're just a dreamer?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;How about you'll never amount to anything, or that's just not for people like you?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Have you ever been told to stop dreaming and get a job, or that's just too hard, or too risky?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You can't afford to subject your dreams and desires to people that don't appreciate and support them. The truth is you'll never grow beyond your current circumstances if you don't change your environment. This is not easy, it is very difficult; but being a self-made success story isn't easy either. If it was, everyone would be living successful fulfilled lives. Most people just don't understand, or are unwilling to make the changes that are necessary to get the desired results.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The first step is to remove yourself from the old crowd and influences and surround yourself with people that will contribute to your vision for life. You can elevated your life experience by simply and purposefully changing your environment. Productive people talk about constructive fulfilling things that carry them forward in reaching their next goal and building upon their last success. Avoid conversations that trip you up, take the wind out of your sails, or sow doubt in the very things that inspire and bring out the best in you. At some point, you'll have to accept full responsibility for the quality of your life and make a determination of who you will allow to be part of it. You must protect your gifts and only share them with those that respect them.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So what shall it be - success &amp;amp; fulfillment or mediocrity &amp;amp; disappointment? The decision now rests in your hands and yours alone. No more blaming others for the quality of your life any longer. There is nothing more exciting then launching the marketing campaign, firing up the call center campaigns, assembling the dealer networks, growing your distribution channels and generating cash!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Starting a business will require inspiring others. The key is instilling a deep desire within the right individuals and companies that have the resources, wherewithal, capabilities and most importantly belief in the vision and ideas you have. Now, these people can help make your dream a reality.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There really is no more work, hours, or effort in launching a local business, national business or international business. It's all a matter of your vision and the people and companies you're associated with. Keep that in mind, as you will want to associate yourself with those that have already arrived at the destination you want to go - been there, done that... They will actually have the road map, experience and conversation necessary to get you where you want to go.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;People want to be inspired, people want to believe in something and people will need to believe in you... If you believe in yourself, others will too; if you don't, they won't. It took my mind places I haven't gone for quite sometime. You can read it here: &lt;a href="http://dannybrown.me/2009/07/15/are-you-holding-back-your-creativity"&gt;Are You Holding Back Your Creativity?&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I remember growing up as a kid and how me and my friends could be anyone we wanted to be - Batman, Superman, Spiderman... ANYONE we desired! We played for hours, living out these characters in our fantasy world... we took on their persona's, stomped out the bad guys and had victory EVERY TIME :) It's amazing how everything is possible when you're a kid. There is nothing holding you back from your dreams or the possibilities life holds. As we grow older, our life experiences can take away that child-like faith. The ability to dream and be whatever you desire to be, is no longer possible in our minds. We stop thinking as a child and start thinking like adults.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I can remember my mom and dad telling me as I was growing up that life wasn't fair... it's a tough world out there. And, of course as you get out there in the real-world, it isn't easy. Those things mom and dad once took care of are now your responsibility. This is the starting point of putting yourself in a box; where your creativity dies and your belief system can begin to work against you. It's a mental prison that says "thats just not for me" or "I can't do this or that". For the most part, this is where most people spend their entire lives, letting past experiences and circumstances dictate what life has for them, rather than believing and understanding that by simply changing how they view things and embracing life with that child-like faith, the quality of their life could radically change.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Everything people deal with in life - other people, circumstances and their past (good and bad), are developing one of two distinct belief systems; they are either stepping stones and small victories that graduate you to the next level in the evolution of life, or they become stumbling blocks to growth that dulls hearing, crushes your vision and takes away the ability to believe and dream like a child. If you find yourself here, take a moment to reflect on the things written above, internalize this truth - because it is true - and just know that you don't have to accept the cards life seems to be dealing you - you can BE and DO whatever you put your mind to; but it will require a commitment to change and a willingness to fight your way out of the box you're in... and by the way, you can break-out, you really can. JUST DO It and don't look back. It takes tremendous determination and a no-quit attitude to finally get to the "it was all worth it" part. Some original ideas don't work out, plans have to be re-thought out, re-worked and re-written and in some cases completely trashed! The point is, if you stick with it, hard work and a little luck will bring you to the desired result you're after; success in a business you started.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now that you've arrived at the semblance of success you envisioned, a whole different set of challenges awaits you that will test your vision, patience, tolerance and mental strength. It takes a unique person to fight their way to the top and establish a successful business, and it takes a unique person to operate, maintain and grow a big business. In most cases, these two distinct functions are, more often than not, handled by different people.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Enough of that for now. Needless to say, you're definitely off to an exciting and at the same time hair-ball experience and sticking with your business aspirations is the key. Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What kind of men were they?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists. Eleven were merchants, nine were farmers and large plantation owners; men of means, well educated, but they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts, and died in rags.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly.  He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton..&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed.  The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying.  Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So, take a few minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday and silently thank these patriots. The reality is, there isn't anything safe out there... just waking up and going about your day can be risky business. Taking risks just provides opportunities to be more productive, to give more to society and stake your own claim in this life. There is a certain piece of mind that comes from living in this position and there isn't anything you can imagine or dream that isn't within your reach. The real risk is giving your trust and the responsibility of your future over to others who can't guarantee you anything and will more often than not, disappoint.  &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"&gt;Is There Security?  &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"&gt;Security comes with a price... the quality of your life. Seeking safety is a direct result of avoiding your fears and more often than not, it means settling for less. The problem with this is, you'll always know in the back of your mind that life could have been so much more if you hadn't settled for less. You've let your dreams die for the sake of security. Ever heard the saying, "live each day to the fullest, because we're not guaranteed tomorrow?" I'm not suggesting to live stupidly. I am suggesting that living a life seeking security can be a limiting and unfulfilled existence.&lt;/p&gt;    &lt;p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"&gt;A Growing Trend...

&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"&gt;Whether out of desire or necessity, it is good to see so many people starting their own businesses as opposed to getting a job. Many people work jobs they hate because it's "safer" than starting their own business. While this may appear to be a safer route to go, many people are finding that things are not what they seem to be. Just ask the millions of people out of jobs in just the last year and you'll discover the reality.  &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"&gt;Mentors and Inspiration...&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"&gt;I Just read this post by Chris Brogan; I really love Chris – he always inspires... &lt;a href="http://www.chrisbrogan.com/a-different-kind-of-independence/"&gt;“A Different Kind of Independence”&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"&gt;The safest investment people can make is in themselves. I would rather fall short reaching for the stars and doing my own thing then wake up one day only to find the company I worked for was going bankrupt or downsizing me right out of a job. I would rather invest in furthering my education, acquiring knowledge, working under mentors that can assist me with building my own businesses then put my money and financial future in someone else's hands that can't guarantee me security, or that I will even get even my principle back. If you don't believe that, just ask the hundreds of thousands of people that have lost everything investing in what they thought were the best companies in the world or the most reputable bankers on Wall Street. It will require that you accept full responsibility for your future; but isn't that better than giving that responsibility to some company, organization or putz that really doesn't have your best interest at heart? To be in business for yourself is to believe in yourself and believe you have something to contribute to your community, your country and/or the world. It's a position of independence, not reliance.  &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"&gt;Many people don't believe they are built for this; however, everyone has the ability and opportunity to be independent and in business for themselves. The good news is, our current economic circumstances  are driving people beyond the limits in their mind and they are doing things they would never have done otherwise. Independent ordinary people will do extraordinary things and it will be interesting to see this chapter of our history unfold... change has come indeed and it will be molded by courageous independent thinking people.You should join the movement : )

It inspired this post below...  &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"&gt;People are driven by the nature thats in them... they can't help themselves, they don't know why they do the things they do, it's just the way they have always been. Some are good, some are bad, some are helpful, some aren't, some have honor, some don't, some have character, and some – you get the point. So then, at the end of the day, what you see is what you get. You can't fake to be something that you're not; at least not for very long,  just give it a little time.&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"&gt;Overall, there is only a small number of people that consistently serve up value to the on-line communities they are part of. The majority of people are not leveraging the tools to enhance and better themselves and/or the lives of those they are connecting with. They don't know the people following them any better than they did before they got started in a social community.  &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"&gt;Over the last year that I have been participating on Twitter, it has changed dramatically. There are a lot more spammers and numbers players vs people organically growing  their mutual following. Long term value will only be created through developing relationships. The stronger the relationship, the more value that can be created. NO relationship = NO value.
&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"&gt;Social media tools have enabled millions of people to develop a presence on the Web. Most of these folks are the consumers that drive revenues for companies across the globe. It is my belief that in the new relationship economy, people will spend money with people they know, maybe not personally, but certainly recommended by a contact, friend or community that they are part of. This by no means is a new business concept; but it is new with respect to sheer numbers of people that can be reached and influenced by ALL business owners, big or small, who are now benefiting greater than ever before from the new buying habits of consumers. Those that don't take the time to build on-line relationships won't be providing products or services to consumers in the future.&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"&gt;Money and wealth, for the most part, has been accumulated by greedy, self centered, self willed individuals that for the sake of the all mighty dollar, and this thinking/behavior has driven the economy, peoples savings,  lives, hopes and dreams into the ground. The success stories of the future will come from people that are contributing value to others, not for the sake of making money; but because its the right thing to do. If you practice this, the financial rewards will come.   &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p style="margin-bottom: 0in;"&gt;Wishful thinking?
