Great news Jason! I look forward to hearing the outcome of the meeting. Would be great to organize an afternoon session during Asilomar to get folks on board as well.

I'm hoping for it, and will do my best to communicate that sentiment Dave. Some of the challenges may be further upstream in unified annotation tools for the genomes that every lab can be producing as well.

Sounds great -- really good to hear there will be the (much-needed) discussions on tools and resources.

In particular regarding standardized formats. I'm sure you know about the GO Reference Genome Annotation Project, which has as part of it a push for the primary datasets (genomic and gene/protein seqs) to be released in standard formats so that it's easier for downstream consumers to compare and analyze them.

Sounds like the fungal community is thinking along the same lines (and even more broadly). Looking forward to hearing what comes out of this meeting. It would be great to see this sort of thing become common practice.

Try GenBank and JGI websites. Links to fully sequenced fungal genomes in our wiki which is also linked at the top of the pages on this site under "available genomes"

That is super interesting. Too bad the paper isn't open access to learn more. I am wondering if any attempt was made to isolate a culture and initiate mushroom formation in the air to determine if it is obligately aquatic for reproduction? I would tend to doubt it, and think it is more of a fluke event by one particular colony. But... my mind is open on that. Thanks for tweeting it.
