In hypnotherapy, the practitioner induces a state where the subject is less conscious than full waking, but not completely asleep, in order to bring forward repressed memories, or introduce positive suggestions. It's called a "trance state".

The practice of guided imagery relies on inducing a trance state as well, in order to reach past the intellect and engage the imagination. Guided imagery can be used for exactly the same purposes as hypnosis, as well as for bringing forward creativity through the imagination, exploring inner feelings, or tapping into higher states of awareness. But then, a hypnotherapist can do those things as well.

A guided meditation also uses an induction process, like hypnotherapy or guided imagery, and typically takes the listener on an inner journey to still the mind, experience peace and tranquility, get in touch with spiritual figures, tapping higher states of awareness, exploring inner feelings...

Is this starting to sound familiar? If it is, that's because basically, all three are exactly the same!

The main difference is what the person leading the process chooses to call it. In general, hypnotherapists do "hypnotherapy", psychotherapists do "hypnotherapy" or "guided imagery", and spiritual teachers, spiritual coaches, and everyone else does "guided meditations". Potato potato. Personally, I prefer potatoes.

What about recordings? There's a long history of hypnosis recordings going back to "tapes", for curing everything from warts to shyness. Guided imagery and guided meditation recordings go back almost as far.

But there is something to be said for doing guided imagery/hypnosis/guided meditation with a therapist who can work with you in real time, one on one. By watching you carefully during the process and soliciting feedback as you proceed, your therapist can taylor the experience to your responses, determine the most productive directions as things unfold, and take you deeper into areas that seem to hold more for you. Working in this way takes practice and training, and it's a skill that is best developed with professional supervision over time.

There are hypnosis, guided imagery, and guided meditation recordings on the market for just about everything you can think of, and the more popular themes (weight loss!) have hundreds if not thousands of listings available. The quality is all over the map, though. So if you've tried recordings and haven't connected with them, don't give up without sampling those from other authors. Just about anyone can make a recording, but it takes a lot of work to make a great one, and not everyone is up to the task.

No matter what you call them, some of the most popular programs available are online at The Healing Waterfall, where you can download a free guided meditation by Laura Downall.

Using the Hypnotic Reframing Technique

Framing is the context in which people use to attribute meaning to the information they receive. Everyone has a unique way in which he looks at things and is different from another person's perspective. People might see the package of information positive while others will see the same set of information in a neutral way and still, others will see it in a negative way. It's all about perception. In hypnosis techniques, framing is being used for trance inducing almost all the time. A successful hypnotizer is able to change somebody's frames without him noticing the fact and create positive attitude towards hypnosis or his own goals in few sentences. The most popular example is the glass is half-empty vs. the glass is half-full. The hypnotist simply takes his clients information and attributes a new meaning to it. Reframing is used in different contexts in our daily lives. It is preferred by public relation agencies because they realize that it's such a powerful tool. Debates between political parties use reframing in attempts to convince the public to follow them.

Reframing is thus a foundation for conversational hypnosis and street hypnosis. Reframing is of two forms which are context and meaning reframing. When using reframing as a technique of successful trance induction, a hypnotist tries to make someone look at a simple situation from a different point of view. A good example of context reframing is when a person decides to buy tickets to go to the movies but he is undecided on which movie to go for. In this context, you can use your reframing skills to make him change his mind and convince him to watch a movie that he doesn't even like. For instance, you can make him watch horror movies which he doesn't like. You can convince him that horror movies help drive out fear and become braver. This way, you present horror movies in a new positive context as opposed to his negative view of horrors. You present horror movies as something that can help him make some positive changes in his life rather than instilling fear in him. This is referred to as context framing.

As opposed to context framing, meaning framing help change the meaning of the actual frame. In the above scenario, the original frame was that horror movies are bad. Changing the frame may require you to change the actual meaning of frame. You can convince your friend that what he saw was only the bad horror films so what he reviews as a bad horrors is essentially a small percentage of horror movies otherwise horror movies are good. Convince him that they include some good masterpieces like the film you have chosen for him to watch. Once again you have succeeded in changing the frame to a positive one.

Generally, reframing is used mainly in inducing hypnotic trance and for making people look at a certain idea from different perspectives.

Hypnosis can change the way we see things. Some of the hypnosis techniques are designed to gain positive attitude towards different events in life and if they are successfully implemented, they can reframe view points and way of thinking in a positive way. The hypnotist can use innovative hypnosis techniques and motivate the subject to gain different perspectives throughout his life which can make significant difference in the future life of the subject.

How To Stop Smoking By Self Hypnosis

Smoking is a psychological issue wherein the mind commands the physical state to crave for nicotine, the addictive content of cigarettes. In order to drop the habit, it is therefore necessary that you deal with the problem as a psychological issue. Since the smoking problem begins in the mind, it follows that manipulating the mind will help the smoker quit the habit. This is precisely what hypnosis does.

In the hypnosis sessions, the mind is manipulated by willing it to go into a relaxed state or trance. The deeper the trance, the more effective hypnosis works in changing such bad habits as smoking. While in a trance, the hypnotized person becomes open to suggestions toward changing his outlook in life. New beliefs and ideas are repeatedly insinuated into the person's minds that replace the old, negative ones.

The reason why hypnosis works in making us drop bad habits in favor of good practices is that our attention level and sense of right and wrong are believed to be at their sharpest when we are placed under a hypnotic trance. When the hypnotized smoker is asked to quit smoking, that person is expected to heed the suggestion.

Mind Conditioning

A smoker who wants to quit is usually advised by a hypnotherapist to envision a future scenario in which there is no cigarette in is his hand. The smoker will be encouraged to firm up his resolve that he can quit cold turkey. The hypnotherapist will pound into the smoker's mind that it is for his and general well-being if he drops the habit. This is called mind conditioning which, when done repeatedly, always yields positive results.

I say repeatedly because you need more than one session for hypnosis to be of any effect. The number of sessions depends on how well the person undergoing hypnotherapy responds to the initial therapies. For good measure, the smoker is also asked to listen to recordings that discuss the evils of smoking. Reinforcement of the initial suggestion is the purpose of all these.

Withdrawal Symptoms

Smokers who decide to quit on their own often experience the so-called withdrawal symptoms which make the effort to quit difficult. When tobacco dependence develops and its use is abruptly discontinued, symptoms of withdrawal will arise. Among the common withdrawal symptoms are sleepiness or insomnia, increased anxiety, nausea and even diarrhea.

When the smoker is placed under a trance, the hypnotherapist is likely to explain that withdrawal symptoms happen because of the conscious belief that smoking is a habit you cannot give up easily. The mind of the smoker is then conditioned that this is not so and that the bad habit can be licked without any negative reaction from the body - if the person wills it.

The hypnotherapist then introduces a new set of responses that gives the smoker confidence that he can give up without anything happening to his body. The hypnotherapist may tell the smoker to take three deep breaths and drink a glass of water to suppress an urge to smoke.

The hypnotherapist will instruct your subconscious to equate smoking with something unpleasant or painful. Hypnosis works on the subconscious levels of our thoughts.

Author Bio

Luke Wright is a hypnosis expert. However, ancient Celtic priests already claimed to possess a skill called "glamour" which meant to dazzle another's mind, often with only words.

The man credited with discovering hypnosis in the West is Marquis DePuysegur, a disciple of Dr. Franz Mesmer (1733-1851). From his studies of primitive shamanistic trances, Mesmer developed "animal Magnetism," an early form of hypnotism. DePuysegur carried on mesmer's research and during one session he observed one of his patients entering a trance-like state of true hypnotism.

By the mid-1800's, DePuysegur's hypnotism (a.k.a "magnetic sleep") was being used to relieve patients pain during operations in London. After observing patients reactions while in magnetic sleep Sigmund Freud formulated his theory of the unconscious mind.

In 1852, Researcher James Braid coined the term "hypnosis." Since the, hypnotism has been used to heal and to entertain. Hypnotism has also been used by mind-slayers for dark purposes.

Whether you know it or not, you've been in a hypnotic state literally thousands of times. Anytime you've been caught daydreaming or being absent-minded, you've been under a form of hypnosis. Ninety percent of people can be deliberately hypnotized to some degree and of that number, fully 10 percent are highly suggestible and thus susceptible to being in deep levels of trance.

How does hypnotism work? We still don't know. We do know, however, that effective hypnotism depends on the power of suggestion.

The term absent-minded is appropriate since during hypnosis our usual controlling conscious "higher" mind is temporarily absent or asleep, while our "lower" subconscious "shadow mind" (responsible for emotion and motor control) is still awake.

Under hypnosis, our brains go to sleep while our lower brains, accustomed to being given commands by our higher brains, continue to take orders from the hypnotist. Thus, under hypnosis, this lower brain simply substitutes the outside commands of the hypnotist for the commands of its sleeping higher brain.

Three things make this hypnosis possible:

First, the subjects focus is narrowed to the point where only a single source of information is coming into the subjects brain, information controlled by the hypnotist. The hypnotist the literally defines reality for the victims subconscious mind.

Second, it is important the subject believe in the process of hypnosis and in the hypnotist.

Finally, for hypnotism to be successful the subject must be willing to suspend logic and temporarily accept distortions in cause and effect, and in his perception of time and space.

Author Bio

For FREE reports, ebooks, videos, downloads, news and articles on esoteric knowledge, spirituality, the paranormal, conspiracies, new age, 2012, the new world order and political conspiracies come to:

http://www.newdawnera.com

How Hypnotherapy Can Help You Quit Smoking

Many people in the United States are finding various ways, which can help them to quit smoking. People who want to stop smoking will be delighted to know that smoking can be stopped effectively with the help of hypnotherapy. However, there are also mandatory requirements that a person needs to furnish for successful long-term smoking cessation. These requirements include a solid commitment. Without a commitment nothing will work and it will spoil your endeavor towards this noble cause.
A dedicated commitment coupled with hypnotherapy always works wonders for the person who wants to quit smoking.

Hypnotherapy is a therapy, which is undertaken with the person in hypnosis and is frequently applied in order to modify the person's behavior, attitude and emotional content as well as comprehensive conditions such as dysfunctional habits, stress-related illness, pain management, anxiety and personal development.

In hypnotherapy, the person who wants to quit smoking is disconnected from the real emotions and sensations. During hypnotherapy, the person is fully alert and attentive, but the mind is conditioned to follow what is suggested. These suggestions are nothing but dissuasions to the urges that tempt the person to light a cigarette.

Hypnotherapy also teaches the person to establish a strong motivation to forsake the vice. It also tells the person about the dangers of smoking and the advantages they will gain if they quit smoking.

Hypnotherapy also programs the person's brain by repeating suggestions to quit smoking, which helps the person get over the addiction. The brain takes the suggestions and uses it as the person's normal behavior. As all these suggestions are positive and work towards overcoming the habit of smoking, the person forsakes the idea of smoking and becomes a non-smoker.

Furthermore, hypnotherapy also has sessions that cover psychological manipulation. In this, the person who wants to quit smoking is made to realize the positive perceptions, and this involves strategies, which help to avoid the ambushing attacks of relapses. The main thing about hypnotherapy is no matter for how long the person has of smoked, hypnotherapy helps to overcome the habit of smoking.

It is estimated that a person undergoing hypnotherapy for the first time has a 25% chance of quitting the habit. This success rate increases and reaches up to 66% if the person undergoes multiple hypnosis sessions. The side effects of hypnotherapy are also very mild as compared to other quit smoking therapies and can be overcome quickly by discontinuing the process of induction. At times a person may fell dizzy and may even develop various degrees of nausea at the time of induction.

Author Bio

I am the founder of Mark Patrick Media LLC, a self-improvement company that specializes in Weight Management & Smoking Cessation programs and one of Fastest Growing Companies In America in 2010 as cited by Inc. It is a real challenge and a very hard thing to do especially if you have been smoking for long enough. If you have been smoking for quite a long time now and you want to quit it, hypnosis can help. Smoking in general is very hazardous to health and planning to get rid of it is the wisest decision you will ever make. The fact that smoking can cause a wide range of deadly diseases and one is cancer, it is just sensible to quit smoking. While there are lots of methods that aim to help people quit smoking like nicotine lozenges, chewing gum, counselling, patches and other cessation methods, one significant alternative is hypnosis or hypnotherapy.

Hypnotherapy is proven to help kick the bad habit and empower patients to completely quit smoking. In general, hypnosis is defined as an altered state of awareness by which the individual is brought under a trance or a sleep state. Clinical hypnosis is done to treat certain psychological or physical problems such as pain, weight issues, bad habits, behaviours, fear, anxety, phobia, speech disorders, insomnia, addiction problems and more. There have been many arguments about the effectiveness of hypnosis; some people are still sceptical about it, thinking that it is some kind of spell of magic. But if one only knows the truth about hypnosis and how it can help alleviate such conditions, they sure will embrace it.

One significant benefit of hypnosis or hypnotherapy is the ability to help smokers to quit their bad habits of smoking and live a healthier life. During hypnosis for smoking cessation, the hypnotist often asks the patient to imagine the unpleasant outcomes of smoking. He will be brought in some kind of a relaxed state and will give suggestion to the patient like for example, cigarette smoke smells like truck or smoking will leave the patient totally ill because of its effects. Depending on the hypnotists, he or she will conduct effective smoking cessation methods like letting the patient think that smoking poisons the body, that you need your body to live and that you must respect your body and protect it. Every time and any time that the smoker feels or desire to smoke, the hypnotist will teach the patient self-hypnosis wherein he or she will ask himself or herself these affirmations.

While it is true that hypnosis is effective in ceasing smoking habits, but it does not work for everyone. About one in four people cannot be hypnotized and in terms of results, it may vary because not all patients are the same, each is unique. But when the procedure is successful, the impact of hypnosis is very beneficial. Hypnotists help smokers achieve their goal of quitting the habit on a regular basis and forever. The great thing about this procedure is that patients are empowered to quit smoking by using their imagination and creating a smoke-free future. After a series of hypnosis cessation session, patients felt very positive and stopping smoking becomes their very best choice.
Author Bio

Talk to a Hypnotist San Antonio about how hypnosis can help in quitting smoking. Could it be that easy to solve some of your long standing problems? The answer is yes. First you need to understand what hypnotherapy is. It is a totally natural state of mind. When doing hypnotherapy with a trained hypnotherapist you will feel very relaxed and peaceful. You might even wish that the session could last forever, it is so enjoyable!

Hypnotherapy has been widely misunderstood perhaps because of stage hypnosis. It is a form of entertainment and has nothing to do with hypnotherapy. There is a misconception that you might loose control, when in fact you are actually more in control and more focused! Hypnotherapy is a professional partnership between the hypnotherapist and the client. A person cannot be hypnotized unless he or she agrees and co-operates.

Hypnotherapy is a valuable therapeutic tool for enhancing a client's self-awareness and helps them to assume responsibility for healing themselves as well as giving them the tools and skills they need to do so.

I find once clients understand hypnosis and are in this deeply relaxed state, they love being there because it is so enjoyable to bypass the conscious mind and go into that place of "inner creative absorption" that is so visual and interesting. Once you quiet the conscious mind and learn to visit your inner world you will find that you can access that part of you that is beyond your conscious awareness. It is like going in to the files of your computer where everything is stored and being able to access your dreams, your past memories, and even heal a wound. Your subconscious knows how to relax you deeply and helps you accomplish the goals you have set for yourself. It just needs direction! You need to tell it what you want so it can go about helping you. If you get in a car and just start driving but don't know where you want to go you most likely won't end up where you want to be.

Hypnosis is one of the quickest ways to get where you want to go and the most enjoyable that I know of, because all the while you are in a deeply relaxed state, the work is being done! You and your therapist go on an inner journey together and when things come up your therapist can guide you through it in a way that can help heal past traumas, wounds, addictions, whatever it is that you are struggling with. It is done in a gentle but very effective way. Usually in 4 to 5 sessions most of my clients find the relief they were looking for or resolve the problem that they came in with. That isn't to say that more work doesn't need to be done on their own; and scheduling a tune up once in awhile but that has been my experience.

Everything you have learned is stored in your subconscious. Take driving for example; you have already learned to drive so your driving skill is stored in your subconscious.

Once you back out of your driveway and maneuver out on to the highway your conscious mind is then free and begins to drift off because the knowledge for driving exists in your subconscious. You conscious mind daydreams or goes off into deep thought, allowing your subconscious to become more active. When your attention is needed to stop or change lanes then your conscious mind comes into play again. Driving is only one activity; you go in and out of trance many times a day. Whenever you do anything automatic, your conscious mind is diverted from your subconscious and you are more likely to go into a hypnotic state, such as the one described. Other examples of automatic states are when you are taking a shower, jogging or perhaps eating alone.

With simple hypnotic, relaxation techniques that your hypnotherapist guides you through; you can begin to visualize yourself becoming healthier, happier, more confident, lose weight, stop smoking or whatever it is that you want to do! When in that relaxed, trance state you are more receptive to suggestion.

Hypnotherapy works for most people but it isn't just a snapping of the fingers. The client has to do some of the work too. It depends a lot on how motivated you are to change. The Hypnotherapist will help you to do the change work in your mind and reframe old belief systems. You will also learn many new ways to deal with your issue, as well as have post hypnotic suggestions for when your old behavior surfaces. You may also have some homework and hypnosis recordings to take home and listen to on a nightly basis. It is a very enjoyable way to work with your issues!

Author Bio

David is the SEO Media executive for http://www.journeysinwardhypnotherapy.com. Instead, you are constantly thinking about that next puff, cracking open a new pack, or how many minutes you have until your next smoke break. You may avoid going out to places that don't have a smoking section. You may even lose out on a romantic relationship because your partner "can't deal" with being with a smoker.

If you are looking for a way to take back control of your life, stop smoking hypnotherapy can give it to you.

How?

During a stop smoking session, your consulting hypnotist will guide you into a trance-like state, so that he or she can access your subconscious mind. Normally, you're not fully aware of everything that is going on in your subconscious, but it plays a major role in what you do, think, and feel.

If you think it's impossible to quit smoking, hypnotherapy can prove you wrong. During a stop smoking hypnotherapy session, you can figure out what's behind your addiction - so that you can overcome it. By addressing the problem in your subconscious, you are attacking it at the root.

Quitting "cold turkey" and relying on willpower are not going to work because they only reach you on a conscious level. You tell yourself that smoking is bad for you, and you think that's enough to make you stop. It might work temporarily, but since your subconscious is not involved, it is not a permanent solution. Eventually, your subconscious desires will kick in, and you will start smoking again.

To prevent that from happening, your stop smoking sessions may include suggestions that train you to think that smoking is disgusting. If you can make your subconscious perceive cigarettes as totally unappealing, you will no longer have an urge to light up.

In addition, quality quit smoking hypnosis sessions can help you relax. After all, stress is a big reason why people smoke! Instead of lighting up when things get tough, you can re-train your subconscious not to take things so seriously. You can also train your subconscious to replace smoking with another, healthier stress-buster.

Because stop smoking hypnotherapy changes the way your mind perceives smoking, it is more than just a "quick fix". No matter how long you've been a smoker, a good quit smoking hypnosis strategy can help you kick the habit for good.

Quit smoking hypnotherapy allows clients to take back control, and live longer and healthier lives. There are also other benefits including saving money, not having to worry about the smell of smoke on clothing, and not being concerned where they will find a place to smoke when they need to.

If you or someone you know is addicted to cigarettes, may be the best way to kick the habit.

Author Bio

Eli Bliliuos is the founder of The New York Hypnosis Institute. If you've tried any of the fad diets, pills, or other weight loss programs you've probably found that they work for a while, but once you go back to "normal" eating the weight starts to creep back on. This is one of the reasons to lose weight with hypnosis. Hypnosis is really a process where you enter a state of extreme relaxation during which you are highly susceptible to external suggestions. It is at this stage that the hypnotherapist is able to work directly with your subconscious mind- the one that tells you, You want two hamburgers instead of one. It is this centre of your thinking that will be targeted by the hypnotist to help you lose weight. Some of the benefits when you lose weight with hypnosis include the fact that you'll immediately have a more positive body image.

Studies have indicated that people with healthy body images are those who do not have weight issues. They don't purposely try to lose weight because they are comfortable with themselves. This is usually the same group of people who do not have weight problems to begin with. When you lose weight with hypnosis the process relaxes you and those feelings will carry over upon waking. This means you will have far fewer cases of stress eating because you'll have access to those same feelings of relaxation and satisfaction that you experience while under hypnosis. For most people, this is a key factor in weight loss because nearly everyone stress eats at least once a year or more.

The hypnosis treatment will leave you feeling better about yourself and with more of a sense of control. People who feel better about themselves are more likely to make healthier lifestyle choices such as opting for a salad instead of those greasy fries. When you feel like you're in control of your life then you feel empowered to tackle things such as your weight. However to lose weight with hypnosis does not mean you'll be dropping three dress sizes in a month. Instead the focus of weight loss with this method is healthy, long-lasting weight loss. Doctors have long proved that losing one and a half to two pounds a week is the absolute most our bodies can handle and keep it off. This provides our bodies with enough time to actually adjust to its new needs, such as food intake. While we don't fully understand why hypnosis works, doctors do know it is possible to lose weight with hypnosis.

By Mike Roberts.

For more articles go to http://www.burnthatfat.co.uk/blog

Quit Smoking With Hypnotherapy

Without a doubt one of the most popular reasons that someone gives for trying hypnosis is to help them quit smoking. By the time they are sitting in the office of a hypnotist who is trained in quit smoking hypnotherapy, they have usually exhausted all options in their quest and are really prepared to try anything having given up on using their willpower alone to stop.

Now many people view hypnosis as a bit of a con and cannot really see any value in using hypnosis to stop smoking. On the other hand those who have successfully undergone some form of hypnosis program know it works and also know the challenges they faced when trying to quit on their own. As strange as it sounds hypnosis is without a doubt the most popular of the non-drug based quit smoking programs.

And it could not have gained such a following if there was not something of value in the process. It is still an unfortunate fact that even in this day and age many people see hypnosis as nothing more than making seemingly normal people bark like dogs. They forget that hypnosis is often used in medical and dental procedures and is often a major part of counseling and psychotherapy.

Barking like a dog does not really have much to offer someone who is looking to hypnosis to help them stop smoking and so obviously has no place in a clinical hypnotherapy setting where the client is seeking help.

So how exactly does hypnosis work to help someone quit smoking ? Hypnosis is nothing more or less than the power of imagination and suggestion. A skilled hypnotist can quickly and easily put someone into an hypnotic trance state where they have an increased ability to imagine more vividly the suggestions that the hypno-therapist is giving them. Not only is there imagination more vivid the suggestions they are given, in this case suggestions in relation to stopping smoking, are accepted without judgment or evaluation and most importantly acted upon.

A typical quit smoking hypnosis session begins with a discussion about what hypnosis is and specifically how hypnosis can help. A detailed case history is then taken where the specific details of the clients life in relation to smoking are taken. This part of the quit smoking hypnotherapy session is all about putting the person at ease making sure they understand what will happen during the session and help both the hypno-therapist as well as the person about to be hypnotized understand a little more about their smoking problem

Once the preliminaries have been taken care of the hypnosis can start. There are a variety of ways that hypnosis can be used to help someone stop smoking. In days past the preferred method was aversion therapy.

With aversion therapy the hypnotist gives the client suggestions that will make them feel sick about their smoking. All kinds of disgusting and vivid images and scenes are created that can quite easily make the person being hypnotized quite ill whenever they even think of smoking. While aversion therapy can be a very effective method , problems can occur when a person who has undergone aversion therapy encounters cigarette smoke out in their day to day life.

Today aversion therapy is often used as a tool of last resort if other techniques have not worked. Most quit smoking programs that utilize hypnosis have some form of modified aversion therapy as part of the program. The reason why is because aversion techniques work very effectively, its just that the hypno-therapist and the client need to be aware of possible consequences when using this stop smoking technique.

These days a more ecological approach is typically used where positive suggestions in relation to health and being healthy are used to move the person wanting to stop smoking towards something compelling and highly desirable. Fresh breath, more energy, greater feelings of wellbeing, being fit enough to keep up with the kids could be some positive suggestions used in a quit smoking hypnosis session.

Many quit smoking hypnosis programs will claim to be able to help you stop smoking in a single session. And for many this will be the case. However you must remember that everyone is different and if your first session did not give you the result you were looking for it does not mean that hypnosis cannot help you it may simply mean that you need a few more sessions. Many programs offer a course of treatment over a period of time 3-4 sessions over a couple of weeks for example. You may find that this style of treatment is more to your liking

When looking at any quite smoking program do your research and find an approach that works for you. Quitting smoking is probably one of the most powerful things you can do to dramatically improve the quality or your life now and well into the future.

If you have reached the point of almost giving up hope of quitting on your own you might want to give some serious thought to signing up for a course of quit smoking hypnotherapy. You have got nothing to lose apart from your smoking habit and a lot to gain in a life time of improved health and wellbeing.

Meditative Breathing Hypnosis Script

To use this script, read it in a very slow and calming way to a friend. They can be seated or led down, whichever they prefer. They may wish for you to subdue the lighting in order to enhance the ambiance. Let them decide what conditions best suit them, so they an be as comfortable as possible. Once you have finished, swap roles and let them read this to you.

This will help to deeply relax you and clear your breathing airways.

Now that you have got yourself comfortably relaxed... I would like you to now concentrate on your breathing... focus on your breathing...

As you focus on your breathing... I would like you to look at a spot or point on the wall... Any spot will do... it could even be an object... or a subtle blemish... Just focus your gaze on this spot and concentrate on this spot as much as you can...

(Pause for about a minute)

I would like you to do this following breathing exercise to help you relax even deeper and deeper... I would like you to alternate breathing with your left and right nostrils...

I would like you to following this pattern...

... Breathe in through your left nostril... and breathe out through your right nostril...

... Breathe in through your right nostril... breath out through your left nostril...

... Breathe in through your left nostril... and breathe out through your right nostril...

... Breathe in through your right nostril... and breath out through your left nostril...

... Repeat this cycle for a few moments... whilst continuing to focus on that point on the wall...

... And you will quickly find that your eyes are becoming more and more... heavy and tired as you relax deeper and deeper... So deeply relaxed... more relaxed than you have felt in a long time...

... Sometimes people experience slight distortions in their vision... seeing strange colours and shapes... If you experience this, then that is fine... Just continue to breathe alternating your nostrils... all the while gazing at that spot on the wall...

... And your eyes may now begin to feel very tired... heavy and tired... like at times when you try and stay awake... but struggle... The more you try... the more your eyes are wanting to close... Becoming heavier and heavier... More heavy and tired... as you deeply relax...

... Now allow your eyes to comfortably close...

... You may feel a pleasant wave of relaxation flow through your body and mind as you relax deeper and deeper with your eyes closed...

... And I would like you to know that it does not matter if your mind becomes so deeply relaxed that my voice drifts away... Your unconscious mind will still absorb all the suggestions that I give you... and my voice will travel with you wherever your mind wanders...

... I would like you to simply observe the colourful oily blackness of your mind... as you drift down to the centre of your being... your subconscious mind rising... as your consciousness descends...

... And you can observe your subconscious and conscious minds rising and falling... like the waves in the ocean... by watching the oily colourful blackness move and swirl... as you become even deeper relaxed into the centre of your being... Colourful random swirls... drifting and flowing... so smoothly...

... The temple priests used formal inductions for trance which form the basis of the techniques we use today. Sanskrit writings also tell us of the 'healing temples' in India. Europe soon followed and such temples flourished during the period of the Roman Empire.

The practice of 'laying on of hands' began to gain popularity and became fashionable as Edward the Confessor (1042 - 1066 A.D) practiced his 'royal touch'. His healing procedures were even formally recognised by the Church of England.

So, during the Middle Ages, as royalty lost interest, fashion changed and the concept of 'suggestion healing' became synonymous with tales of sorcerers and the dark arts. It was at this time that many of the misconceptions about trance and suggestion we hear today were formed.

This brings the tale into the 1500's, when a Swiss MD named Paracelsus began to use magnets for healing. Magnets were also used as healing devices by Valentine Greatrakes during the 1600's. Healing magnets remained prevalent into the 1700's. In 1725, a Jesuit Priest named Maximilian Hehl used magnets for healing. It was one of Hehl's students, Franz Anton Mesmer MD, who really brought the healing power of magnets into the public eye.

Mesmer coined the term 'animal magnetism', referring to the magnetic energy within the patient rather than the magnet. Mesmer left his home in Vienna and moved to Paris and during the late 1700's his client list was the who's who of French aristocracy. However, Mesmer's glory days were to come to an abrupt end when the medical community began to challenge his methods.

A Board of Enquiry was convened, the most notable contributors being the chemist Lavoisier, Benjamin Franklin and an MD expert in pain control named Guillotin. The Board censured and discredited Mesmer's work and he returned to Vienna to practice out of the public eye. From 1795 until 1985, the idea of utilising energy as a conduit for healing was discarded by Western medicine and psychology.

The date is now 1840 and an English physician named James Braid became interested in mesmerism after watching a carnival demonstration. Intending to discredit the technique, he initiated a study which captured his imagination. He noticed that eye fixation and pre-framing were important elements in trance induction and coined the phrase 'hypnosis' for the first time.

The word 'hypnosis' is derived from the Greek 'hypnos', meaning sleep. By the time Braid had realised that this term was inaccurate, it had stuck. Could he have imagined it would still be used in the 21st Century?

Around the same time, while working in India, Dr. James Esdaile, began to experiment with hypnotic anaesthesia, with outstanding success. Whilst the Indian culture conditioned people to respond to hypnosis, the same was not true when he returned to England, and he was discredited by the British Medical Society. With the introduction of chemical anaesthesia in the mid-1800's, healing through hypnosis returned to the sideshows.

1864 and two medical doctors named Liebault and Bernheim established the Nancy School of Hypnosis in the city of Nancy, France. A young Sigmund Freud studied at the Nancy School for a while, before abandoning Hypnosis for his new 'talking therapy' which became psychoanalysis.

In the early 1900's, a French pharmacist named Emile Coue made an important discovery, the power of autosuggestion. His famous formula was, 'Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better.' Coue noticed that suggestion only works if it is accepted by the client, thus, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis.

The world of hypnosis was very quiet for the next 50 years, although studies did continue, the most notable being Clark Hull who, in 1933 wrote 'Hypnosis and Suggestibility', Boris Sidis wrote 'The Psychology of Suggestion' and Milne Bramwell wrote 'The History of Hypnosis'.

In 1958, the American Medical Association approved the therapeutic use of Hypnosis. This was a turning point worthy of note.

The great hypnotherapists and writers on hypnotherapy of our time followed. George Estabrooks, Andre Weitzenhoffer, Dave Elman, Leslie LeCron and Milton Erickson. Erickson practiced hypnosis on a daily basis between 1920 and 1980, sometimes seeing 14 clients a day. His learnings changed the face of hypnosis forever.

Today, Jeffrey Zeig and Ernest Rossi keep Milton Erickson's legacy alive at the Erickson Foundation in Phoenix, USA.

With all of this rich and colourful history, how is it that Hypnosis is still so widely misconceived in the year 2011? The distinction between what we see on the stage and the TV and Hypnotherapy to enable personal change and transformation with professional, experienced and well qualified Hypnotherapists is still very blurred. Let's take a look at some of the most common misconceptions.

Hypnosis is the domain of the weak-minded and gullible. The truth is that the most intelligent people with strong imaginations and a flair for the creative are usually the best hypnotic subjects. They are able to wilfully suspend their disbelief and break through the critical faculty barrier which separates the conscious and the unconscious mind.

Hypnosis means letting go of personal power and revealing secrets. Not so, whilst experiencing any level of hypnotic trance you are actually more aware than in the normal waking state and able to select information accordingly. Your unconscious mind becomes acutely focussed on learning and initiating the required personal change. It hears what it wants to hear and sees what it wants to see in a highly selective manner.

Hypnosis represents a risk of humiliation. We've all heard about or been witness to stage hypnosis. A group of very willing individuals submit to hypnotic trance in order to entertain the audience. The individuals who volunteer their involvement are very carefully selected and are completely willing to do something silly in the name of entertainment. Those who are not are quickly identified and sent back to their seats. Stage hypnotists are very skilled at what they do and the best are extremely proficient at initiating rapid inductions. Stage hypnotism is entertainment and we should view it as such. The truth is that your unconscious mind is a very moral mind and if you object to any suggestion, you will choose to ignore it and not comply.

Hypnosis means a loss of control. During an Hypnotic trance, you are totally in control and fully aware of yourself and your environment. In fact, your senses become heightened and attuned to everything that happens around you. You can stop the trance at any time of your choosing, you are totally in control.

Hypnosis is something to fear. The history of hypnosis has clearly demonstrated why there remains a residual fear of hypnosis and its long ago association with 'the dark side'. The hypnotic state is a normal, natural, relaxed state and is experienced on a daily basis. For example, the driving trance. Every driver, at some time has missed their turning or made a journey without being able to remember the entire drive. This is an example of a light trance state. If an emergency occurred whilst in this state, the unconscious mind would react immediately to keep you safe, as the awareness remains heightened and alert. What about the TV trance, when you have been so involved in a programme, that you have been unaware of someone talking to you? We all enter into a light trance every day, it's a completely natural state.

Hypnosis means sleep. The only feeling associated with hypnosis which is different from the normal, waking state is one of complete relaxation. Whilst it is true that people who respond really well to hypnosis and are able to reach really deep states of trance may drop off into an energising and revitalising sleep, the general experience is of deep relaxation. Hypnosis is really not about becoming 'zonked out' or unaware. As we have already discussed, trance represents a heightened state of awareness. There is also a misconception that there may be an inability to awaken from trance. Remember, hypnosis is not sleep and you can come out of the hypnotic state at any time.

Hypnosis is a gimmick and has no real benefits for personal change. Hypnosis is a wilful suspension of disbelief and a vehicle for communication with the unconscious mind. Once great communication links have been forged with the unconscious mind, change becomes easy. Any unwanted and unhelpful states, behaviours or habits can be modified or removed easily and effortlessly, through clear communication with the unconscious mind.

Hypnotists are manipulative. This assumption is a non-truth because of the evidence that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis, you just follow instructions offered to you by the hypnotherapist. The hypnotic state is about learning to go into the hypnotic state. Those who boast that "I can't be hypnotised" are absolutely right. Hypnotic trance is something that you choose for yourself. Nobody can force hypnosis on you, you have to choose to accept it. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis.

Hypnosis is brain washing. Brain washing is a very specific 5 step process, definitely not achievable with hypnosis. Firstly, a person is removed from their normal environment, then they are deprived of their senses. They are punished when they disagree and rewarded when they agree and chemical interventions are employed. Definitely nothing to do with hypnosis!
So, your misconceptions allayed, hypnosis is an amazing experience for total relaxation and for enabling incredible transformative personal change. It is a process which is self-initiated, self-controlled and certainly not to be feared. Experience it for yourself. Choose a well qualified and experienced hypnotherapist and ask to see their Ethical Code. Then relax and enjoy.

About The Author

Christine Dawson, Managing Director of Quest for Success Ltd is an ABNLP Certified Trainer of NLP, Time Line Therapy(R) and Hypnosis. And for many people this may comes as a surprise. Hypnotherapy has been recognized as a totally natural thing, just as any other natural healing such as meditation, reiki or yoga. Due to the significant and permanent advantages of hypnotherapy, it has already gained huge popularity among the celebrities as well.

Those celebrities visit their hypnotherapists for a variety of reasons. Either it can be to earn a sporting edge, give up smoking, overcome a phobia or to lose weight etc. Hypnotherapy is now more popular among the celebrities than any time before. Whether they are athletes, movie stars, TV actors, musicians etc, celebrities from all fields have been known to choose hypnosis.

It surely gives a boost to the hypnotherapy business when celebrities disclose the positive results they received from it. Take the example of English recording artist Lily Allen, who has dropped her size from 12 to 8 with the help of hypnotherapy. Tiger Woods is one of the best golf players of all times, and he also received hypnotherapy treatments. Actually he credits his strong mental health to the years of hypnosis he got since he was a child. Steve Collins, another sports star has successfully used hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy has become a big part of many athletes because it can give them motivation, or make them immune to distractions, or to step up their mental strength.

Mel Gibson underwent hypnosis to help him deal with his problems, while Kevin Costner hired a private therapist to treat his phobia. Smoking is a big problem among celebrities and because of all the stresses and controversies; it turns into really difficult to get over this filthy addiction. But a lot of celebrities have successfully been treated with hypnotherapy to get over it, Ellen DeGeneres, Billy Joel, Matt Damon and Drew Barrymore to name a few.

TV actress Tina Malone lost 6 stone weights using only hypnotherapy. It helped her to alter her eating habits and allowing her to lose the weight. Hypnotherapist identifies the root cause of the problem and assists to treat in accordance with that, like Lily Allen who dropped her size mostly by going to gym and not just altering her eating habits.

Richard Lee, the goalie of Brentford football team has also benefitted from hypnosis. Charlotte Church, a Welsh singer also quitted smoking when she was pregnant with her children. Even though she started off again but now she is determined to permanently quit it. You will discover so many celebrities who have tried hypnotherapy that it would certainly be much easier to list those celebrities who have not advantaged from it.

It shouldn't come to us as a shock that so many celebrities currently use hypnotherapy. It's surely not a new trend. People such as Mozart, Henry Ford, and Thomas Edison etc. all have been known to use hypnotherapy to get over their problems. Despite the fact that it can be sometimes relatively expensive to hire a good hypnotherapist, it surely does not mean that only celebrities can afford it. It's acturally affordable most of the times. The benefits of hypnosis are almost limitless and the effort is minimal, this has made hypnosis really popular among celebrities.

About The Author

A NaturalTherapyForAll therapist offers hypnotherapy and acupuncture services.

How To Use Self Hypnosis

To begin with, you will need to make sure that you will not be disturbed for at least half and hour, preferably an hour. Turn off phones, and tell family and friends not to bother you for a while. Find a comfortable place. Somewhere that is neat and tidy, and of a comfortable temperature. Subdue the lighting if this helps you. If you wish, you could light some candles and burn some incense. You can be seated, or lie down - whichever is most comfortable for you. Importantly make sure that your legs are not crossed, as you could end up going numb after half an hour!

Close your eyes and take 10 slow deep breaths - in through the nose, and out through the mouth. Say to yourself the word 'Relax' on each out breath.

Now imagine yourself at the top of 10 steps, with a door at the bottom. With every slow step you take down, feel yourself becoming deeper and deeper relaxed.

When you get to the bottom open the door to your ideal place of relaxation. It could be a beach, a garden, anywhere. It could be somewhere real, or imagined.

Try to use as many senses as you can. Take a good look around. Pause and listen to any sounds. Perhaps you can hear the call of a bird, or the breeze gently blowing. Perhaps you can smell the sweet scent of flowers, or the salt in the sea? Touch objects, and make it as real as you possibly can.

Explore your relaxing haven, and enjoy it for as long as you wish.

This is a great technique to help relaxation, and your ability to relax will improve the more you do this. Most of us do not relax anywhere near enough, and it damages our health in many ways. Stress weakens our immune systems, causes irritability, anxiety, and unhappiness. Even if you just do relaxation work, you will massively improve your overall health in almost every area. If you are struggling with this technique, then persevere. Getting into a hypnotic state is a skill that will improve over time. Don't expect too much, you will probably still be aware of what is going on around you. It may be worthwhile visiting a clinical hypnotherapist, or buying a recording at least once, in order to experience the feeling of a trance. When you have experienced a trance a few times, you will be more informed as to what state of mind you are seeking.

You can also take this self hypnosis a little further if you wish. You can learn to give yourself specific therapy the more you practice. Here are a few techniques you can use after you have reached number 5.

What the mind imagines, it believes has really happened. If you imagine something bad happening to you, you will feel the emotions as if it is really happening. Success breeds success, so if you visualise yourself achieving something, then it will help you to do just that. You may wish to visualise yourself slimmer, healthier or wealthier for example. Or you may wish to visualise yourself having achieved something, such as a promotion or a new job. Make the image as real as you can, use all of your senses, and do this as often as you can.

You are only limited by your imagination. In fact you should notice that your creative powers increase the more that you use self hypnosis, as your mind becomes more accustomed to utilizing its creative powers. Stick with it. What I sometimes find is that people will stop using hypnosis once they have made the necessary improvements that they wished to make. However this may enetually deny the overall benefits of the increased relaxation, as things may slowly slip back to where they started. Set a specific time to do it, even if it is only once a week. If you have specific issues that you wish to deal with, then increase this accordingly, perhaps every day for a few weeks.

I hope me sharing this technique with you will help some of you to improve your mental and physical wellbeing, and realise what a useful tool for change hypnosis is. I genuinely want to help as many people as possible to live long, healthy and happy lives. I hope this contributes in some way. Please feel free to contact me to share your success stories, or for further advice.

Author Bio

Jon Rhodes is one of the UK's leading clinical hypnotherapists. You can't get hurt, it doesn't cost anything and there are no medications to take. There are several things that you will need to get started. Scripts for hypnosis are a necessity and should be considered before the first session.

If you are going to have a session offered by a qualified hypnotherapist or you are going to practice self hypnosis, you still need words or key phrases to help guide you through the session and towards your goal. The scripts can be generalized for the particular habit or issue but they should always be personalized for the subject/you.

This natural process, hypnosis, is something that many of us do more often than we might think. Hypnosis takes place in a certain state of relaxation; it is sometimes called a state that is somewhere between when you are awake and when you are asleep. Actually, you are quite awake it is just that during a hypnosis session, you are so focused on the scripts that you do not realize what is occurring around you.

When one is in a hypnotic state, they are still conscious and can, if necessary, be alert and ready to deal with any situation if necessary. When being hypnotized by a hypnotherapist, the hypnotherapist is stating the scripts and if there is a problem, they will assist you with that issue. When using the processes of self-hypnosis, you are able to "pull" yourself from the relaxation state at any given moment.

The scripts for hypnosis that should be used should always be in the present tense. For self-hypnosis purposes, the scripts should always include "I" because you are stating what you want to accomplish. If you decide to record your scripts and listen to them at a later time, then when recording rather than using "I", you should use the word "you" because now you are listening rather than verbalizing the scripts.

Unique prerecorded scripts can be used or, as noted earlier, you can create your own. You must be careful in the scripts for hypnosis that you write. The scripts must be descriptive and powerful. The wording should not reflect into the past but the present and the future. The phrases should be able to invoke images that communicate to the subconscious what is needed to be done and what will happen once the required steps have been taken.

Without scripts for hypnosis, there is no hypnosis session. Yes, you can be very relaxed and have very calming music or relaxing sounds playing in the background but the words are the director and your mind is the actor. Spoken smoothly and somewhat slowly allows the mind to listen and comprehend what it is being told. The images that are created by the scripts allow the mind to understand more clearly and is more willing to follow the suggestions.

Clear and concise, powerful and directive should be your scripts for hypnosis. Once your mind is willing and you can be in a relaxed state to truly listen, and only listen, to the words that are spoken your hypnosis session will be positive and successful.

Author Bio

Chad J. My clients experienced hardships that included domestic and community violence, personal and family substance abuse, learning disabilities, poverty, sexual abuse, co-dependent relationships, self-destructive behavior patterns, and societal oppression due to their race, gender, ethnicity, government, primary language, sexual orientation, and more.

The anger that I observed reached homicidal levels and the sadness reached suicidal levels. And despite any flaws in our nation's mental health system, I can humbly and first handedly state that mental health services have saved many, many lives. I have witnessed the powerful - though often prolonged - power of healing that good psychotherapy can nurture. But after 10 years working in the mental health field, I had provided thousands of psychotherapy sessions and attended plenty more of my own. I had also been a student of meditation, metaphysics, and various forms of non-denominational spirituality from a soul-evolutionary perspective for nearly 20 years. Through this integrative work, I became keenly aware that healing often requires more than just talking.

With a desire to sharpen my tools I pursued hypnotherapy training. When I enrolled in a hypnotherapy certification program, little did I know that my relationship with my work and my clients would change forever. My healing work would soon draw from a level of human strength that goes well beyond the psychological, but into a place that is commonly referred to among hypnotherapists as the superconscious - a portion of the psyche that contains a profound level of inner wisdom, strength, connection to divine power in the universe - a portion of the human energy system that is driven not only to survive, but to thrive!

What hypnosis is:

Hypnosis is a state of relaxation very similar to meditation. When you think about levels of relaxation, there is a continuum. On one extreme end is our fully alert (Beta) state of mind. In western culture, we are conditioned from a very early age to utilize this active, left brained side...think, analyze, multi-task, get things done quickly. This active state of mind is also where we experience stress! A little further along the continuum, our biorhythm slows down a bit and we start to relax (Alpha state). We regain a sense of perspective and our stress levels decrease (e.g. looking at the ocean, sitting quietly for a few minutes, taking a few deep breaths, dazing off a bit). Still further along the continuum, our brain waves slow even more (Theta). We begin to daydream or even experience a light state of sleep. Hypnosis begins in the alpha state and shifts into the theta state, however it occurs before we actually fall into a deep state of sleep (Delta). Contrary to popular myth, being hypnotized does not mean being put to sleep, nor does it involve a loss of control.

But how does relaxing help us heal through hypnosis?

1. In a state of hypnosis, people often access information & insight that they might not access when their minds are racing along in daily life. Those of you with experience in meditation know exactly what I mean. When you relax, the answers or inner guidance just comes to you and you can draw from that insight to move forward. For those of you who are not meditation-savvy, think about a stressful day that left you feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or confused. After taking a walk in the park, giving yourself a few minutes of quiet time to yourself, or even getting a good night's sleep, you reached a new level of perspective or insight into your troubles. A resolution that you had not considered previously now seems clear. Hypnosis takes this experience to a new level! The inner guidance that we can access in a state of hypnosis can be invaluable in understanding and solving various issues and in developing an action plan. This benefit is particularly useful when we dialogue with the hypnotherapist during the session. The action plan is meaningful and useable because we generate it ourselves.

Accessing inner wisdom helps us heal, but that's only part of the process. Many hypnotherapists use only the power of suggestion and in my experience, such an approach is very limiting. Instead, an interactive healing process that works with the power of the superconscious mind is what leads to a greater level of healing.

2. In hypnosis, the superconscious mind can conjure up images, symbols, and stories that represent blocks, barriers, and emotional baggage that have been holding you back. The archetypes and images that are generated during hypnosis can be very dream-like. These images and stories are emotionally loaded and represent aspects of the subconscious mind that are ready to be resolved - waiting to be resolved - but may not be easily accessible through traditional talking therapy or our daily alert state. The reason is that talk therapy, despite all its merits, utilizes a Beta (intellectual) state of brainwave activity. As a result, we can get "stuck in our heads." We have all known people who understand the psychology and intricate dynamics of their lives quite well but they still don't change their behavior. This pattern is particularly common with addictive behaviors, trauma, anxiety, certain physical symptoms, motivation, and other emotionally loaded issues. Hypnotherapy can assist people to release and transform the symbolic images that are associated with these behavioral and emotional patterns.

The next step in hypnotherapy involves transforming these symbols into something positive and in alignment with one's goals. Essentially, we re-write our mental scripts, transforming them into something more positive - more desirable. Sometimes, energy work such as EFT, chakra clearing, or rhythmic breathing in hypnotherapy can further assist the process of healing and release. People who are visual tend to do really well with hypnotherapy, however other senses can be utilized for transformational healing too.

3. The power of suggestion: The new experience must be reinforced through affirmation in order for healing through hypnotherapy to stick. This step is most commonly associated with hypnosis but is often misunderstood - or even misused by well-intentioned hypnotherapists who are not trained in interactive hypnotherapy techniques. When people desire change, they are receptive to statements that support them in that process but the statements and affirmations must accurately reflect the client's goals, imagery, feelings, and history with the presenting problem. The more general the affirmations, the less effective they will be in helping reinforce the client's healing process...the more specific the affirmation is to the client, the more effectively the affirmations will work. In many cases, hypnotherapists who have additional training in counseling techniques will be better equipped to formulate affirmations that are fine-tuned to their clients' specific issues and goals. I draw heavily on my experience as a psychotherapist to sort out the core history of a problem, the holistic picture of the individual, and realistic goals that are broken down into manageable parts.

What Kinds of Issues Can Be Assisted With Hypnotherapy? Anxiety, Fear, Sadness, Habit Cessation, Emotional Clearing, Confidence, Stress, Gaining Clarity, Unleashing Creativity, Motivation, Certain Kinds of Trauma, Past Life Regression, Deepening Spirituality, Developing Intuitive Skills, Some Medical Conditions, and Much More.

How Much Hypnotherapy Does It Take?

Hypnotherapy is not psychotherapy. The work is very goal focused, can be intense, and often involves some rather rapid-fire healing and clearing. Having a clear understanding of the issue can be an important way of moving the process along. Some people are able to get really good results in one session, but that is not the norm. I find that many people are able to resolve a single issue in 4-6 sessions spaced 2-4 weeks apart. The more complex the issues, the more sessions will be required.

Finding a Good Hypnotherapist & Making Good Use of Hypnotherapy:

· Be sure the hypnotherapist is Certified by the National Guild of Hypnotists. Because hypnotherapy is an alternative healing modality, anyone can call him/herself a hypnotist - even without proper training.

· Be sure you feel comfortable with the hypnotherapist: How does that person sound on the phone? Is his/her voice comforting? Does this person present as caring and knowledgeable?

· Is this person willing to discuss the basics of your issue before scheduling a session so you can each get a sense of whether it's the right match? I require a free 15-minute phone consult for all new prospective clients.

· Be cautious of anyone who guarantees specific results - or specific results in a designated number of sessions. The fact is that the human psyche varies greatly among individuals and an infinite number of variables influence the kind of results and length of time needed for hypnotherapy to be successful. Hypnotherapy works for many people, but not for everyone. Any ethical hypnotherapist will fully acknowledge that fact. Be cautious about pre-paying for a block of sessions before you've experienced at least one session with that hypnotherapist.

· Does the hypnotherapist have a suitable office? Although many hypnotherapists work out of their homes, the space should still be professional, quiet, and soothing.

· Keep in mind that Hypnotherapy is a professional service and fees should be reflective of relevant credentials and experience.

· What other credentials, background, or experience does the hypnotherapist have? Don't make assumptions about the educational credentials that a hypnotherapist has. A Ph.D. is a respectable degree, but it offers little in the way of emotional healing if this doctorate degree is in Botany or Economics and the hypnotherapist has no other experience with personal development, counseling, or helping others professionally.

· Collaborate with your hypnotherapist about what works and what doesn't.

· Listen to your hypnotherapy recordings regularly. Doing so is essential to making the work stick!

· Keep in mind that hypnotherapy is not magic. It is only one healing tool and should be treated as such.

· Use your best judgment.

This article is based upon the author's professional experience and training, however it is not intended to serve as a prescription for medical or psychological treatment. Always consult with appropriately credentialed practitioners directly to discuss your specific situation.

Author Bio

Matthew Engel, LCSW, CHt -
Psycho-Spiritual Growth: Psychotherapy, Hypnotherapy, Past Life Regression, Intuitive Readings, Classes, Workshops, Talks & Media Appearances.
"Empowering you to access your inner Light!"
Contact me to sign up for my free e-newsletter.
http://www.matthewengel.com

Stop Eating Too Much With Self-Hypnosis Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/6075617

There is an overwhelming number of diets out there, all promising toned bodies and slimmer waist lines within weeks. The sad fact is, very few of them work. The reason for this is that no matter how much we want to look slimmer and feel better about ourselves, there is still that voice in our head telling us to have a snack. That voice is always there, telling us that we have to fulfill our urge to snack which will make us happy right now, not worrying about it until later. This is very similar to quitting smoking. In many cases, being overweight is simply a problem with our brains addiction to always wanting to eat. It is not because we are always hungry, but it makes us feel something, thereby satisfying our brain. This is the exact reason why self-hypnosis has recently become very popular and remains an effective way to lose those extra pounds.

Self-hypnosis creates a heightened awareness and suggestibility where we are able to influence our own behaviors and provide ourselves with what is called post-hypnotic suggestions. Using it, we can tell our inner child that the road to a happy life does not have to go through food. We make a decision to lose weight and stick with it.. To be able to use self-hypnosis effectively in losing weight we first of all have to state very clearly and positively what it is that we want and after that make a firm decision to accomplish it. The initial session should be devoted solely to actually making this decision and the challenges you are facing with carrying the extra weight. There should never be any doubt in your mind that you can do it.

It is also good to ponder upon why it is that you would like to shed some weight. Is it for reasons related to health or is it because you want to shape up for summer? The reason is always up to you, but always choose something that means something to you and speaks to your heart like, "I will lose weight because I want to be able to play soccer with my kids", " I will lose weight because I want to fit into my old clothes that I used to love." You have to try and decipher why you overeat, eat unhealthy foods or snack during the day. What does eating these things make you feel? What need is it filling for you emotionally? It might be an idea to try and find other things in your life to fulfill those emotional needs. For example, "I eat because I'm lonely." Get a dog. This will provide you with a companion and force you outside for exercise.

It should be noted that the self-hypnosis is not what will lose the weight for you. Self-hypnosis will not speed you metabolism up in some magical way. However, with self-hypnosis you will change the way you think about food and about eating. It will shut the mouth of the voice in your head telling you to eat because you are lonely or not going for a walk because it is too much effort. You will regain control of your sub-conscious which is seeking to always control you behavior.

When starting out with self-hypnosis to lose weight, imagine yourself making the right choices. Choosing vegetables instead of pizza. Choosing a walk instead of TV. Imagine yourself on that walk and try to imagine how you will feel once you have accomplished it. Focus on your goal, write them down by hand, put them somewhere you can see them everyday and repeat them to yourself daily. The bathroom mirror is a good place as it is the first thing you'll see in the morning and the last thing before going to bed.

These are some of the reasons why self-hypnosis is so successful at helping people lose weight. Being on a strict diet can be a struggle, but with self-hypnosis you can change the way you think and leave these struggles in the past.

Tim Hansen is a hypnosis expert. Past life intruding on present life. A type of "residue" you brought into this life that needs to be resolved and cleared away.

My own experiences with past life regression hypnosis have been intense and in all cases, the past life that surfaced during my hypnosis completely relieved the issue at hand in my present day life.

Oh sure....it's entertaining to have a "past life guru" tell you of your greatness in a past life. But! Everything you ever need to know is right inside your own mind....right now. All you need to do is access it.

Here is an excellent exercise (I just did the other day) to access the wealth of knowledge that is within your own mind right now.

Here is what you need: A glass of water, a writing journal (or some paper), a space inside or outside where you can have about 20 minutes of some peace and quiet.

Tips: I recommend doing this exercise ONLY if you are physically strong and healthy. You must be relaxed but alert.

Before doing any kind of spiritual exercise, I personally use a prayer of protection. Humbly ask the Almighty and the Heavens (or whatever you believe) for protection, assistance and guidance. I ask that any and all information revealed to me be for the purpose of resolving past issues so that I may achieve my highest good in this lifetime. Thank them....amen.

Let's begin...

Start with a breathing exercise. Deep breath in through the nose (focus on filling the lower portions of your lungs with rich oxygen) and blow out through the mouth. Force the air out until there is nothing left. Repeat about 5 times and allow your breath to become relaxed and rhythmic.

If you are lying down, place your hands at your sides. Do not cross your feet or hands (important) just relax your entire body. Close your eyes and focus on your breathing for a minute or two. Just gentle rhythmic breathing.

Begin your countdown from 10 back to 1. With each number, allow yourself to relax further and further. Feel yourself just sink into your bed/chair. Allow every muscle to relax from head to toe.

With your eyes closed, visualize yourself walking up a beautiful path to a gorgeous mansion. Observe the greenery and colorful landscaping along the path.

As you walk up to the door, you notice a plaque with your name on it. This is your house;). Walk up to the door, open it and visualize your "Dream Team" (this is what I call it). You dream team can be Angels of light, Spirit Guides, loved ones on the other side, whatever you believe and feel safest with.

Ask them to take you to the basement of the home. Allow them to guide you to the stairway you will need to walk down to go into the basement. You walk down first. Your "Dream Team" is behind you supporting you every step of the way.

Begin descending down the stairs until you reach the bottom of the stairs and have entered a long hallway.

In this hallway are many doors. Each door is unique in it's color, design, decoration, etc.

You need to enter the door you feel most drawn to. Which door captures your attention? When you are ready, enter the door.

NOTE: There may be doors you are reluctant to open. Do not enter those areas unless you are completely comfortable in doing so. ALSO! Never pre-judge the information that comes to you, Just go with it.

Once the door is open, observe where you are. Look around and be mindful of your surroundings. Begin mentally recording all the information: what you are wearing, your name, people around you, the time period, etc.

You should very quickly know who and where you are. If you do not, turn to your dream team and ask them. Take a mental note of their response.

Now begins the journey. Why is it you have returned to THIS life? What is it you need to resolve by returning to this life? Is there wisdom from this life you need to resolve a present day issue? Spend as much time as you need to experience what is going on.

When you "feel" you are complete, return to full consciousness. I usually turn back around and visualize walking back out the door, up the stairs and out the front door until I reach the path I originally walked in from. Before I open my eyes, I look down and visualize roots growing out of my feet, into the earth.

When you open your eyes, drink your water and write down all your thoughts and experiences. You may find as you start writing, more memories come up. Go with it!

You may be thinking "was that real"? I assure you it is. The memory of the lifetime that surfaces during your hypnosis is the lifetime that needs to be acknowledged and cleared. Or perhaps the information and wisdom from that lifetime will now resolve a present life issue for you. There are any number of possibilities.

Brace yourself! Sometimes it takes a bit of processing.....you may begin to "feel" things or think of things you have not thought of in a long time. More often than not it will have a direct connection with an issue in your present day life.

The most important thing is just let the memories flow. It may be difficult as it may stir up emotions and memories you have repressed. Do your best to stay comfortable and acknowledge these memories, do not resist them. It's your soul's way of "taking out the garbage".

Happy Healing to YOU!

Author Bio

Access your Past Life Memories in Minutes with POWERFUL Past Life Healing Tool => Instant Past Life Regression Tool

Create a state of relaxation with our FREE Online Guided Meditation at: http://www.howtobalancechakras.com

Dazzling White Teeth Through Hypnotic Visualizations

In this article I will share an example of Hypnotic Visualizations and Affirmations that helped someone to achieve some of their goals. I had him list some of the most important goals they had and why these were important and how they would know they had reached them. We took some of these goals from their list and created a very simple yet powerful daily ritual for them to do to ensure they would achieve their goals.

One goal was to have dazzling white teeth and an amazing smile. Another goal was for him to improve his posture and overall appearance and discipline. So the first goal of whitening his teeth is more for the actual teeth to be whiter and the amazing smile is more about projecting that warm feeling that others can sense and feel.

He decided on the teeth whitening product he felt would work best for him and I had him use the product as directed and then smile in front of his mirror with his back to the wall. So every morning or night or both he would stand with his heels and back against the wall and face his mirror and smile. He would imagine looking at someone he really liked and send them that warm feeling through his smile. He would be looking at his own reflection and sending feelings and thoughts of acceptance and respect and comfort.

He would visualize his perfect posture and he could see himself standing tall against the wall and he got used to how this felt, both physically and how good it made him feel inside. He would smile and send the warmth of a real heart-felt smile with a slight glint in his eye and he would see his reflection while imagine someone he was meeting for the first time or meeting again because they wanted to see him again.

His analytical mind could see and agree that he was standing tall and straight as he said to himself "My posture is perfect!" "My teeth are dazzling white and I smile naturally and easily and people respond well to my smile and smile in return." His intellectual adult mind could see and agree that his teeth were becoming lighter and more dazzlingly white, while his emotional mind could feel these scenarios and imagine even better situations and hear the laughter and feel the connections between himself and others. All the while he was developing his mental and physical discipline (think Marines!)

With Hypnosis we also cut down his intake of colas and coffee and other tooth staining products. Within 20 days his teeth were already noticeably whiter and more importantly he was more comfortable with less than perfect teeth. Maxwell Maltz author of "Psycho-Cybernetics" was a Plastic Surgeon who noticed that even when people had their physically appearance improved through cosmetic surgery some of them still felt ugly or deformed or unattractive on the inside.

So I always make sure to work with the inside and outside-helping someone to improve their outer appearance is often the easier part than helping them feel more comfortable in their own skin and liking how they look. You can probably think of some very famous people who have had tons of surgeries and have all the money in the World and died tragically and unhappy. Instead, you can be happier about yourself and reach more and more goals by creating your own ritual from what you discovered here.

Author Bio

Michael Twomey is a Success Coach and Professional Hypnotist in NYC. This mental state is induced by a procedure known as a hypnotic induction (which is commonly composed of a long series of preliminary instructions and suggestions) or may be self-administered ("self-suggestion" or "autosuggestion"). Braid, the inventor of hypnotism (hypnotism derive from the term "neuro-hypnotism" - nervous sleep), described hypnotism as a state of physical relaxation accompanied and induced by mental concentration ("abstraction").

In 2005, a new definition of hypnosis, derived from academic psychology (Society for Psychological Hypnosis):

"Hypnosis typically involves an introduction to the procedure during which the subject is told that suggestions for imaginative experiences will be presented. [..]. A hypnotic procedure is used to encourage and evaluate responses to suggestions. When using hypnosis, one person (the subject) is guided by another (the hypnotist) to respond to suggestions for changes in subjective experience, alterations in perception, sensation, emotion, thought or behavior."

According to Freud, the mind can be divided into two main parts:

* The conscious mind includes everything that we are aware of. This is the aspect of our mental processing that we can think, act and talk about rationally (when you extend your hand in order to retrieve something). A part of this includes our memory, which is not always part of consciousness but can be retrieved easily at any time and brought into our awareness (like a definition). Freud called this ordinary memory the preconscious.

* The unconscious mind is a reservoir of feelings, thoughts, urges, and memories that outside of our conscious awareness. Most of the contents of the unconscious are unacceptable or unpleasant, such as feelings of pain, anxiety, or conflict. According to Freud, the unconscious continues to influence our behavior and experience, even though we are unaware of these underlying influences (just like when you lock a door but later on you are not sure if you locked or not the door, because our unconscious mind told us to get the key and lock the door).

But what happens when we are hypnotized? When we are hypnotized, our conscious mind takes a step back and let our unconscious mind to take over. By that, the hypnotherapist has access and can suggest to our unconscious mind that we don't like to perform an action, even if when we are awake we love to perform that action (smoke a cigar, drink a cup of coffee, get drugs, etcetera). This procedure is safer more than any other treatment, because if we try to give up to something by taking pills or do other stuff those can lead to harmful effects over our body, but hypnosis only teach our brain to reject them (there is no physical action against our body). And since the changes are made over our unconscious mind, we will remember that we don't like to perform that action only when we try to perform that action.

Consequently hypnosis is a great therapeutic tool for getting rid of any kind of addiction.

As a fact, we all experienced hypnosis but we never thought of that, when we watch a movie, when we read a book, that is also a kind of hypnosis (self hypnosis).

Because of the fact that the subject is susceptible to suggestion and because the response to suggestion can lead to alteration in perception, emotions and behavior, hypnosis is used as treatment for many phobias, pain sufferance, addiction and many more.

Since AMA (American Medical Association) agreed that hypnosis can be use as an alternate treatment, more and more researches were made. Current research showed that hypnosis is the best treatment for addictions. For example, for a group of smoking addicts, different treatments were applied in order to quit smoking. Here are the results.

With no support only 3% manage to quit without a relapse. Using a substitute for nicotine only 22% did quit smoking. Same percent was able to quit but using medication, or behavioral modifications or single session hypnosis.

Using multiple strategies, 43% quit smoking and didn't have a relapse. But using multiple sessions of hypnosis 63% quit smoking.

This is only a kind of research conduct. Other research revealed that suggestions given in a hypnotic state, even once, can produce actions in human beings that are the same type of actions that would have resulted from more long-term conditioning and practice (research made by Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, University College London)

When it comes to addiction, every person that has an addiction will act the same way (being drugs, alcohol, sex or game computers). It is proven that hypnosis can alter the way we feel about our addiction. In order to change our lives we have to change our beliefs (which are stored in our unconscious mind), and hypnosis is the best way to change those beliefs.

When we do something we enjoy, our brains start to release chemicals in our body.

That's why is very easy to become addicted to a substance (caffeine - from coffee, nicotine - from cigarette, pain killers, or worst, drugs), or an activity (work, watching TV, playing computer games). The term video-game addiction encompasses all genres of games, but it is often associated with MMOG's (Massively Multiplayer Online Games).

According to Dr. Brent Conrad: "Most people can play most games without becoming addicted, just as most adults can drink alcohol on occasion without becoming addicted or gamble from time to time without losing their life savings". Scientists are discovering with recent research that the genes which people inherit may include "addictive genes". Those that do get hooked end up with ruined lives.

Further Information

No matter how serious the addiction, hypnosis has been medically proven as a safe and extremely reliable way to deal even with computer gaming addiction. Its applications are really wide and can be helpful for areas such as the weight loss, the smoking, the self confidence, the public speaking fear and many others.

The first thing you need to understand about hypnosis is that it's not a process that is effective if you don't believe in it. I could spend all day trying to hypnotize you and to help you achieve some type of result you want, but if you don't trust me or the process it's not going to work.

Our habits and beliefs are stored in our unconscious mind and some of them are really in depth. Therefore, if we want to change some of them we can't do it by simply choosing or wanting it at a conscious level. Something must be changed in the subconscious, whether through affirmations, meditation or self hypnosis. If you don't understand this process, there is no 'new year's eve goal' that is going to be achieved.

Our willpower is the scarcest resource at our disposal. Moreover it get consumed pretty quickly by internal frictions and thoughts. It's no surprise then that people who choose to rely only on that is destined to fail. I used to do the same, so I out myself into that list for sure. It's when I discovered the powers of self hypnosis that the game changed.

So in order to self hypnotize yourself, the first step is to relax. And by that I don't mean simply sit down. You need to consciously let go of all the thoughts and problems, take a very deep breath and relax all muscles.

Once you are there, you need to repeat yourself some sentences, in form of affirmation that you have previously written down and memorized. In that relaxed state, the subconscious is more receptive and it will get all what you put into it. Of course there are some rules for the scripts to be. The most important one is that they need to be in the positive and in the present form.

Another thing many people overlook is the visualization process that can go along with the affirmations. If you visualize your outcome, while you repeat it to your subconscious mind, the chances of success increase dramatically.

It's crucial that while you do your self hypnosis sessions you feel also what it is that you want. You need to think as if you were already experiencing the desired outcome. It's not easy at first and requires practice. However, the more you do it the better you'll become at it.

Self hypnosis won't change things overnight. However, if done properly for few days and weeks can bring incredible results. You can get rid of bad habits such as smoking, binge eating, fingernail eating, fear of public speaking, shyness just to name a few.

So go ahead and learn more about this process. I bet that you see incredible results.

Andrew Grey is a Self Hypnosis expert. This simple guide for self hypnosis right here before you is a very useful tool to having a meaningful and productive hypnosis experience. This guide will help you pave the way to successfully come in contact with your subconscious mind.

This straightforward guide can aid new and aspiring self hypnosis practitioners that want to have the power to take full control of everything they do. Thus, they can create significant improvements in their life. If you're the type of person that fits into this category, below are some easy to follow guidelines that you can use to make your hypnosis experience a huge success.

Goal Setting

Hypnosis is designed to help people to communicate with the subconscious mind. Having the ability to tap into your subconscious gives you control to create and modify positive beliefs that can help you change unwanted behaviors and become successful.

You should always keep in mind that everything you do has a purpose and a goal. Setting targeted goals before going into a trance is a must. Bear in mind that hypnosis works best if you have set a good purpose or intention. The effects it brings are truly magical if you use it wisely and for the good of all.

Relax and Free Your Mind

Before entering into a trance state, it requires you to be calm, comfortable and relaxed. In doing so, you need to find a spot wherein you can peacefully conduct self hypnosis without being disturbed.

It is very much important to have a quiet, comfortable and serene place to exercise this technique in order for you to clear and free your mind. This way, you can easily tap into and communicate with your subconscious mind.

Sincerely Talk to Your Subconscious

Your subconscious mind is known as the storage for your beliefs and perceptions.

If you have personal issues, limiting beliefs and uncontrollable behaviors that you want to change, then you can use the magnificent power of your subconscious mind to eliminate all of this negativity. When you communicate with your subconscious properly and effectively it will find miraculous ways to help you achieve your goals.

Self hypnosis is one of the best ways there is for you to take advantage of this powerful process. If you can learn how to use hypnosis to successfully correspond with your subconscious then you can achieve practically anything you want.

As an example, you can change your negativity by directly conversing with your subconscious mind through hypnosis in a way that fills your subconscious with positive and wholesome thoughts that come from a pure heart.

Fill Your Mind with Positivity

Being able to communicate with your subconscious mind offers a lot of advantages. One of the best advantages is you can change your negative beliefs to positive ones by using strong and positive auto suggestions. For example, you can state directly to your unconscious mind the kind of person you want to become and the things you want to experience in life. Filling up your mind with a lot of positive thoughts will create a significant change in your attitude and beliefs.

Take Action

Doing self hypnosis helps you to become motivated in fulfilling your goals and desires. Having to change your limiting beliefs and negativity into positive ones will help force you to take the necessary actions it requires to become successful in anything you pursue.

Self hypnosis alone won't do the trick however; you also have to put in the essential effort. Self hypnosis only enables your mind to see the great possibilities you have in life. It brings out your inner strengths and potentials that you may not have realized were inside of you. Being forced to unleash all of your abilities can help you to have a positive direction and much success in life.

Author Bio

Cliff Yvon is a self hypnotist enthusiast who loves to share valuable information about guide for self hypnosis to others. In fact, if you are considering having hypnotherapy and are currently searching for a therapist, you will probably find that many hypnotherapists now-days, practice NLP to some level and conversely that most NLP practitioners who have completed certified training courses, will also be familiar with using hypnotic techniques during therapy sessions.

How Are These Therapies Similar?

Hypnotherapy utilises hypnotic techniques in order to bring about therapeutic change. Hypnotherapy enables a person to solve personal problems by bringing about a deeply relaxing state of mind. When the person is deeply relaxed this allows the unconscious part of the mind to use its resources to find solutions. It also allows the person to focus their attention completely on the therapists voice in order to follow the positive suggestions and guidance the therapist is making. In hypnotherapy this relaxed state is called trance. All people experience trance states on a daily basis. Trance simply refers to the experience of being really relaxed. It also involves focusing your attention so that it is highly selective. Reading a really good book and being completely absorbed in it, is an example.

Have you had the experience of being totally immersed in the characters of the book, being able to vividly imagine what they are like, whilst at the same time being able to ignore other noises and distractions going on around you? If so, you have experienced trance. Using your imagination and day-dreaming are other examples. Any time that you 'go inside' your own head you are in a light trance. If you've ever had the experience of having a problem that is constantly with you, so that it feels like all you have or all you are, is this problem, then you will know what it is like to experience a bad trance.

Richard Bandler (a computer scientist) and John Grinder (an associate professor in linguistics) developed NLP in the 1970's. NLP was created after they spent time studying and modelling therapists who were considered to be extremely effective at getting good results. One of these therapists, was the Psychiatrist Milton Erickson. He was also an extremely talented hypnotherapist. Erikson's style of indirect hypnotic suggestion and skilled use of ambigous and vague language patterns, has become known as Ericksonian hypnosis. Since NLP was developed after modelling Erickson, many NLP techniques involve Ericksonian hypnotic approaches. Like more traditional hypnotherapy, NLP works with the unconscious part of the mind in order to find solutions to problems. NLP therapists are also trained in using Milton Model language patterns in order to induce light trance states in clients. This is very useful at getting a problem moving when a person is stuck in a bad trance. Other hypnotic techniques that are common to NLP include metaphorical story telling and utilising the client's imagination in order to bring about a highly focused state of attention during change techniques - a trance state.

How do NLP and Hypnotherapy Differ?

You will find that they are more similar then they are different. During hypnotherapy you are much more likely to be seated in a comfy chair, perhaps reclining with your eyes closed! During NLP you often get more involved with the techniques on a practical level, so you may be standing, or be required to do or say certain things related to overcoming your problem. You may still get to close you eyes and you will certainly get to use your imagination. NLP techniques utilise hypnotic elements but usually in a more subtle way, the NLP therapist will empower you to draw on resources you already have in order to bring about new options in thinking.

When you see an NLP therapist you will find they often use more traditional hypnotherapy techniques as well. At the end of your NLP session, after all the hard work, you will often get to recline back in your chair and experience relaxation so that you leave the therapists office feeling positive and ready to go on with your day.

Author Bio

Karen has a degree in Psychology and is also a professionally qualified mental-health occupational therapist, with NHS experience. If one is quite comfortable with his own abilities, then why rock the boat, so to speak. This belief may exactly be the reason for that person to take a second look at himself.

As actively promoted by its proponents, self confidence hypnosis may be helpful to those who have fears in these common scenarios: public speaking, socializing with people or going to job interviews. Immediately, a person who may be intrigued by hypnosis but don't believe that he has self confidence issues may be convinced that he has no use for it. The fact is, hypnosis is not just limited to overcoming anxiety in speaking to large crowds.

Self confidence, as distinguished from self-esteem, is the belief in one's ability or capacity to do something. To put it in another way, even if one has confidence in one thing, it does not necessarily follow that he has confidence in all things. A person who has no qualms in selling his new idea in the boardroom or in persuading his case to a hostile jury may doubt himself when it comes to haggling for the best price in buying a car or in any other situation that he is not usually accustomed to be in. After all, Nobody is perfect in every single area in his life; although it might not be crippling the person outright, he may do better if he opens to the possibilities of what hypnosis can do to him.

Most people also have past experiences that could have shaken their confidence at some point. This could be an embarrassing situation in school, a major gaffe in their first job or a car accident caused by his negligence. Others may have had painful childhood traumas such as being told they were not beautiful or capable enough or that they should not even try something because they would only fail at it. Self-professed confident people may proudly say that they have gotten over these things by shrugging them off or pushing them out of their minds. However, while they may have had pushed them out of their conscious minds these are still very much taking residence in their subconscious minds. These beliefs would then, unbeknownst to them, rear its ugly head in the way they make decisions or behave. The only way they can take control of these negative beliefs is to extract them out of their subconscious mind and have it replaced by positive ideas. Hypnosis can certainly address this type of issue.

Another example of one's confidence being shaken are those times when life throws him a curve ball and he is put into a situation that he needs to adjust to, but may not know exactly how. It may be during the period when one is laid off, for instance, or when one needs to relocate to a new and unfamiliar place or country or in any situation when one is taken out of his comfort zone. Some may cope easily; others, although confident in other areas, may find these changes daunting.

Lastly, there are those milestones in life that most people go through.
