Creating your own Passport Photo

The other day, my friend came up to me asking me to take her a picture for her passport photo. At first, I hesitated because I had limited knowledge and tools of doing such a thing. Then, I decided to take up as a challenge because I wanted to try something new. And after everything was done, it turned out good apart from the minor flaws because of my limited knowledge.

Here's my humble tutorial.

What you need?
1 x Camera
1 x External Flash (optional) - to properly strobe on the subject face
1 x Adobe Photoshop Editing

STEPS
1. Take a picture of your SUBJECT

- The main objective here is to take a picture of your subject.
COMPOSURE:
- First, compose your subject. Either move them around or simply ask them to pose. But, it was my first time, my subject "naturally" posed for me - which was good.
- You may want to take a whole body with the entire background. This is because it gives you option to edit the photos later on a PC.
LIGHTINGS:
- Second, what I learned that day was that you have to carefully light up your subject carefully (i.e. the face, body, shoulder and also the background).
- Either having more lights above, below and beside your subject will help to bring out the subject's feature A LOT.
- However, as you can see from the picture above, it's not really that "CLEAN" because you still see shadow under the chin.
- Oh yea, the background is important as well. Try not to have too much shadow behind on the background. Because we want to remove the background later.

2. Have fun Photoshop!

- There are a lot of tutorials on Youtube teaching you how to use photoshop. Keywords: "REMOVE BACKGROUND", "GRADIENT TINT" AND "LAYER MASKING".
- That were the three methods I used.
- First, CROP the picture. (Half Body, Full Body, or whatever you like).
- Second, REMOVE the background by using the LASSO tool to SELECT then DELETE.
- Third, ADD another LAYER. Then GRADIENT TOOL it with one of the BLUE COLOUR that is similar to a passport photo background.
- Forth, minor touchup, such as AUTO CONTRAST and COLOUR and you are done.

Few Tips:
1. Keep practicing your photoshop skills.
2. There are a lot of tutorials online (i.e. Youtube).

There are 2 things that I enjoyed going to Barossa Valley.
1. The scenery is AWESOME. Driving there with a CAR - Love it the most.
2. The amount free Wines to be taste - 90% the wine tasting is FREE! Drink till you drop!

Cakes and Seafood at St Kilda!

To continue from one of my previous posts - Penguins... ST KILDA...

The seafood here was AWESOME! YUMMY...

We went to this seafood restaurant recommended by my good friend Ken Neth, Chan (Thanks man).

We ate this "Stuffed Calamari with Scallops and Spinach" coupled with a Pinot Noir for each one of us. AWESOME-NESS!

I can tell you maan. This is the first time in my life trying something "EROTICALLY EXOTIC". That dish was SUPERB man. Damn nice. *THUMBS UP!!!!*

Anyway, in St Kilda, along Acland Street, the cakes were awesome too. Standing outside in any of those shops was like a "Watery Mouth Dripping Experience". The cakes lit up with the effect of the Warm Day Lighting made those cakes looked "SEXY". And just staring at them made my eyes go Sweeter. It bulged out bigger each time I name out the name of every single cake that look delicious.

*FUIIIIIYOOOO*

So, we went into one of them.

We had two slices of cakes. I can tell you that its just that GOOD. The atmosphere is oldy-moldy 80-90s, the cake were sweet and sexy..

Well, I have to admit that I suck in Photoshop. Yet, you can still see my title picture cacat. Hmmmmm. Well, I am still noob in it. LOL

But, the Web and YouTube.com helped me a lot. Haha.

Melbourne Victory Crushed At Etihad Stadium: Part 2

Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC are two of the biggest football club in Australia. They are the best team in the A- League. And we, who were there to watch the football, see them got trashed by their biggest rival. SIGH.

It's like watching Arsenal got Beaten by Manchester United at the Emirates. Dejavu. Hahaha.

So. With the final score at 3-0

It was a disappointing night, for the fans and everyone who support Melbourne to see them got trashed within half time. And, It's my first time watching a football match and to see the team I "supported"got beaten AT HOME.

33,000 fans in the Etihad Stadium (Used to be Telstra Dome)

The Sydney Fans were overjoyed.

Anyway before the match started:

I was at the Victory Room for the a Monash Briefing session. They served beer and champange here.

From the Victory Room, we get to see the sun set.

SO, we went down to get our seats.

Pre-match entertainment were:

And there we see Malaysia's Jalur Gemilang

From where I was seated with the rest,

I get to see the players from Sydney FC warming up

Then the players came out from the dug out.

But the Melbourne Fans were the most craziest one.

Wohoo. In April, I watched an AFL (Australian Footy League) game in the MCG. But, last Friday, I conquered the Hyundai A League!

This time, I watched the Melbourne Victory gotten trashed by the Sydney Football Club 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium. Sigh Sigh. And that's before half time!.

I've posted this 6 different pictures. I hope it's good. :)

Note each colour of the pictures.

Personally, I don't really like this flower and bee. But, I kinda like it because it's a picture of nature. Nature itself is a beauty on its own. You don't get this kind of picture that often. because bees don't pose for you.

The portrait baby-mother picture has a very light and shallowy colour, which is not very heavy: I tried not to make the colour too heavy because the picture has to be soft and mallow. And the white balance is just OK, that made them kinda orangy. Hmm.. Probably I could have done better. :)

Anyway, I wished I could have gotten their email to mail them this photo as remembrance.

I think this picture was posted in my previous post before . Long shutter exposure of Yarra River.

Environment

Decided to kill of the colour. It's dull but things are moving in the photo. Everything is moving the Car, the Newspaper, the Background, EVERYTHING...... So, yea.

This one is awesome. From the street of Adelaide - Hindley Street. Cropped it down. Brought out some brightness. And you can see how dark is dark and how bright is bright. It like nothing is not too dark and too bright. The drizzle of the rain helped too. :)

This is Vivid. The colour is strong. everything is blurred except one. It's Swwwwweeeeeeeeeeeet~

The Malaysian Made South African Runner's Birthday - Henn Drik

YUUUUUP, he IS the the one and only one Malaysian Made South African Runner friend I have. Man, don't play play with him okay!

For the first time, on his Birthday, many of us and I witness him sprinting like some African Runner. Yes, he ran exactly like one. Instead of getting thrown by water balloon, most of us who were chasing him were panting like mad. Run Run Run~ Chase Chase Chase~

Anyway, he had like a surprise, a dinner, a drinking session, two cakes, two bottles of liqour and plenty of friends there for him. Hahaha. And not forgetting a warning letter soon for him to receive. Isn't it just PRICELESS.

Wooohoooooooo. I'm finally back home-home! Going to miss Adelaide. It's a much smaller version of Melbourne. Nice place. Thanks William and Tat Ren and friends for hosting Adelaide for us. You guys rock. Haha.

Oriental Spoon, Korean Food @ La Trobe Street, Melbourne CBD

Oriental Spoon - Korean Cuisine

I ate twice here - When Mom was here and a friend's birthday. The food is good. They serve Korean side dishes like kim chi and all, and their dishes are really good too!

Yum Yum!

The restaurant is on La Trobe St, facing Melbourne Central station.

The dishes:

Unagi

Squid

Bim Bi Bap

Stone Grill Beef and Chicken

Gin Seng Soup

Crispy Spicy Chicken

All the dishes taste Daaaaaaaaaaarn good. YUUMMY!!!!! Worth visiting this place if you crave for Korean food.

My humble review
Food: 10/10
Ambient : 7/10 (can be stuffy at times)
Service: 8/10

Further comments:
1. If you are planning to come here on a special occasion, you are advised to come early. Sometimes, the queues can be super duper long.
2. The foods really yummy!
3. Will come again. :D

Yam Cha (Hong Kong Dim Sum) @ Imperial Kingdom, Glen Waverly

In my previous post, I mentioned that Mom and Bro came over to Melbourne to visit me.

So, on one of the days, Yung and I brought them to "Yam Cha" aka eat Dim Sum at Glen Waverly.

1. I learn something new about Dim Sum and Yam Cha
When we want to eat dim sum in Malaysia, at any restaurants such as dim sum shops, we always say we go "Eat Dim Sum". But, when I'm here, "Yam Cha" is the right word for it. As far as I know, when we - Malaysians say "yam cha", we mean "minum kopi (drink coffee)" aka "have a drink in the mamak or hawker". Apparently, the Hong-Kees also use the word "yam cha" when they want to eat dim sum. Hmmm...

Service: 8/10
Food: 9/10
Price: 7/10 (standard price in Melbourne. It cost about AUD 60 for this "yam cha session")

Final verdict: Craving for dim sum in Melbourne? This place is definitely worth it to pay a visit. :)

St Kilda : Penguin @ the Breakwater!

St Kilda is a MUST GO place if you come to Melbourne. There's awesome food, cakes, beach, night spots, pubs, clubs..... It's a nice place especially during the night. Oh yea, the ever famous "Luna Park" is also in St Kilda.

To get here: Take a tram from on Swanston Street (Between Federation Square and Flinders Station) that heads towards "ST KILDA". Board the tram and wait till you passed by Luna Park or when you start to see the beach. The best is if you stop at the main stop (facing McDonalds), which is the one front of Acland Street, you won't miss it. ;)

From the breakwater, the scenery of the city is just astonishingly awesome!

And yea, To reach to the Pier, you have to walk further up the beach.

when you're on the Pier, walk till the end until you reach the breakwater.

You'll see the sign:

Enjoy viewing penguin~

Few advise before going to the breakwater:
1. Go in the evening, when the sun is going to set.
2. If the weather is windy, Wear a hoody. The wind can really blow you off the Pier. If it's raining and the wind is gushing, forget going there.
3. Flash photography is not advised because you'll ruin the penguin's habitat.
4. For any camera, bump up to the highest ISO, Manual focus, put your shutter speed as fast as your ISO can reach and snap those pictures.
5. The penguins are really small, look around the rocks.
