Sure I get out to the store, or play-dates but hardly ever on my own. And, when I do get out of the house alone it's usually not something that I really want to do. Being abducted by aliens just might be a nice vacation! Ok, not really I would miss my family so much, but just what would they miss about me?

One of my favorite things is when I get home from running an errand and I get great big hugs from my babies, and hear those wonderful things like, "Mommy I missed you so much!". One thing that I know my kids would miss is my patience. Poor Daddy really tries, but he just can't do it all the time. I know my children so well that I can pretty much predict their behavior. I think since I know how they work, it makes it easier for me to be patient.

In the same breath, I am a huge pushover for my kids. I try to be the bad cop sometimes, but it just doesn't work. I know that they would miss Mommy's love and understanding big time! There is just nothing like a Mommy hug, am I right?

Mommy is also a one-man personal library. I must read over 50 books a day when you add them all together. My kids love to read, and I LOVE that they love to read, but it does get old. They also love when I tell them made up stories, which I'm not great at, but they don't know. Without their Mommy, just who would read all of those books?

The four of us do get out of the house quite a bit together. I know they love these outings. We go to story-time, playdates, the playground, the grocery store, etc. Daddy has not ventured out of the house with the three babies very often, and I think it stresses him out to do so. With good reason, it is hard to get a 3 year old, almost 2 year old, and 9 month old out of the house. We require a lot of "stuff" and a lot of space. It is hard work, but I know my kids really appreciate it. They would seriously miss being able to do these things.

I'm sure I could come up with a million things my kids would miss about me, but I could come up with a million and one things I would miss about my kids. I love my family, and I love being a stay-at-home Mommy. While an alien abduction might be a good break, I'm not sure I would last long on Mars without my babies!
But, this year instead I made a list of things I would like to accomplish. Read the bible, fit into some old clothes, talk to my sisters more frequently, be debt free, and some more. One of them was to do something for me.

I know it sounds incredibly selfish, but as a mom of three (soon to be four) under three, I don't get very much me time. I love my children, and I really love being a stay at home mom, but I often worry that my children won't be prepared for preschool and being without me or each other for any amount of time. The three of them are really close, and my oldest is a very good big brother who protects his little sisters. At the same time, they are codependent and have trouble being separated. Basically, I knew that taking some time for me would be good for all of us!

A friend of mine recently invited me to a bible study at her church, and so I decided to go. It's in the morning, and they provide free daycare for all the kiddos. I get two hours to recharge and I know my children are safe and right next door. My babies aren't adjusting very well, but they've never been in the care of anyone else ever before. It is good for both of us to have some time apart. Another thing I love about this study is that there is daily homework. That means everyday I have to take 20 minutes for myself. It keeps me accountable to taking care of myself, and keeps me sane.

There are about 100 women in this study and I'm in a small group of 8. I love being surrounded my women who understand where I am coming from. They're all moms, or grandmas and everybody knows what my days are like. We offer each other love and support and understanding. I've never been a part of a group like this before. It is good for the soul.

The best thing I've done since having children, is force myself to take time for me. Not just a shower, or a spa day, but an experience that refreshes the mind and body and makes me a better person. I look forward to going every week, and I know someday soon my kids will too!

With Christmas just around the corner, I'm double checking my list to make sure that I've not forgotten anyone. This year, I had a really hard time shopping for my mom. You know how when you get someone the perfect gift one year, it's hard to get one to top it.

My parents are divorced, and my mom remarried when I was four. Unfortunately she didn't get professional pictures of her second wedding, and no one gave her any of the photos they took. She owns maybe 4 or 5 pictures from her wedding total. One day I was cleaning out some boxes, packing up things to move into my first apartment with my hubby, and I came across an invitation to my mom's wedding. I knew that I had to get it framed, I was sure my mom hadn't seen it for years. I spent way too much money to have the invite along with one of her precious pictures framed and matted for my mother.

I know she was surprised and touched that I preserved such a special memory for her. It hangs on her wall, and I know she sees it everyday. It's these special gifts that make Christmas so meaningful. It's not about the money you spend on the next best thing, but the heartfelt thought that matters.

So, I feel like it was THE perfect gift...but now what to do? Luckily my mom is fairly easy to shop for. And if all else fails, she loves gift cards because then she can buy exactly what she wants. My mom has a fancy new iPhone, so I'm thinking of getting her a fancy SWAGG giftcard to go with it. Whatever it will be, I love my momma and that love makes any gift perfect.
You just get in your car and drive...or if you're like me you plan for weeks in advance and have a binder prepared with every map, gas station, and possible excursion planned for the entirety of the trip. Whether your the over-preparer like myself, or a fly by the seat of your pants kinda gal, road trips are great family fun.

When my husband and I first got married, we took a road trip through Canada and a large part of the Western United States, and we brought a long my little sister! It was quite adventurous of us, and I'm not sure I could ever plan such a trip again, but I'm glad we did it once.

We left Lincoln, Nebraska and headed North. We stopped at Mt. Rushmore, and drove on to Canada. We stayed at the cheapest AAA motels we could find, and shared a room with my little sis trying to be as frugal as possible. We hit up the Calgary zoo, and headed up to Banff, Alberta. My husband had a conference in this beautiful scenic area, and I have never seen waters so clear nor mountains so beautiful in my life. While the hubs was off working, my sister and I went canoeing, sightseeing, and of course shopping. We ate delicious foods and played board games. It was so nice to have the bonding time with my sister, and still get to have my husband time as well.

We continued on our journey hitting up Vancouver before we headed down to Seattle and our final destination, Sisters, Oregon. Every year my step-father's dad has a family reunion in Black Butte Oregon. We spent days relaxing, swimming, hiking, and nights hot-tubbing and eating good food with family. It was a great way to spend our first summer as a married couple.

The view of our "back yard" in Oregon.

When it was time to head home, we had been on the road for over two weeks. All three of us just wanted to get home, and while I love my sis dearly, my hubby and I were ready for some alone time. We made the decision to drive from Sisters Oregon to Lincoln Nebraska straight through. We had two drivers, it was doable, right? My poor husband ended up driving most of the way, and I'm not even sure if I was awake the part I drove through. Eventually though, we made it home.

I saw the most amazing sights traveling through the Northwestern U.S. and Southern Canada, beauty that you don't even realize exists. I can't wait to take road trips with my kiddos. It doesn't matter where you go or what you do, it's being with family that makes it fun.
2/$5 is a great deal when you need whole and 2% milk like I buy. However, 2/$5.50 is pretty close to what the regular stores sell it for, and I've heard that Aldi has even cheaper milk. So, since both of the scheduled activities I had planned today got canceled, I decided to venture out with the kiddos.

I kid you not, we spent 1 1/2 hours there and the kids would have stayed longer if I would have let them. First we stopped at Santa's Wonderland. The kids looked at all the toys, but when my son saw the train set-up, we stopped and watched it for quite some time. Then we colored pictures, got stickers, and my 18 month old even wrote a letter to Santa. =)

We walked through the fishing department and my son was in love with all the lures. He thought they were little toy fish, and we looked at them over and over again. He had to choose which was his favorite so he could tell Daddy, but it was a very tough choice.

Finally we made our way to the aquarium. It is an amazing display of wildlife like I've never seen anywhere, even better than any natural history museum. They have live fish and stuffed bobcats, bears, deer, racoons, etc. We sat on the bench and just watched for a long time.
After we completed this circuit of the store, we did it two more times! We had a blast, and it was all free. This is such a great find if you have a store near you. I will say that I stayed far away from the hunting displays, and personally felt very uncomfortable taking my three sweeties anywhere near the guns. But luckily, that part of the store was easy to avoid and my kids didn't notice.Rachelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14157116168058451736noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5800684241957036359.post-33671961223220798072010-11-12T07:50:00.000-06:002010-11-12T07:50:42.744-06:00Free Money with Swagbucks - Yep, It's Really Free!!

I've cashed out $70 in Amazon.com gift cards in less than a year...what, you want one too?

Every Friday, Swagbucks gives you the possibility to earn up to 1,000 swag bucks for a search instead of the normal 10-50 swag bucks! That means even if you forget to use it every other day, always do a search on Fridays!

If you don't know about Swagbucks, it's simple! It is a search engine that pays you for searching! It is a legit operation, even though it seems way too good to be true.

Here are some of the ways you can earn Swag Bucks to trade in for great prizes like amazon.com gift cards!

Searching - Here is the obvious one, SwagBucks is a regular search engine, so use it just like you would google or anything else!
Newsletter - Sign up for their newsletter via email and they often send out "secret" codes.
Swag Codes - Codes found randomly on the SwagBucks blog, twitter, toolbar, and facebook.
Special Offers Tab - Every day just by clicking through some special offers you can win 1-3 Swagbucks. Just go to the "Ways to Earn" tab and click on Special Offers, then click on "View Our No Obligation Offers" at the bottom choose skip for each page and after 4 or 5 pages you will win your bucks!
Daily Poll - On the left hand side of the home page, click on Daily Polls to participate in their...you guessed it daily poll! With a quick vote, you can earn one swagbuck every day!
Referrals - If any of your friends or family sign up with you as a referral, you get swagbucks too! This is the fastest way to earn money because when your referrals get swagbucks you get the same amount from them.

The swag bucks trickle in at first, but once you get in the groove you can earn free money fast!Rachelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14157116168058451736noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5800684241957036359.post-41280300310166883092010-11-11T19:18:00.000-06:002010-11-11T19:18:40.931-06:0010 Tips for Making Your Life Easier - Just For MomsHey busy mommas, I know you all work hard out there! Here are some tips that I use to make life around my house easier. We all have our days where nothing seems to go right, but I've found that these little things can make a big difference.

1. Family Nap Time - I have three kids under three, and they don't always want to nap at the same time. But, the rule around here is, well that is just too bad! They all at least lay down after lunch, whether they sleep or not. It gives mommy some sanity time, and allows me to get a few things done without the kiddos underfoot.

2. Ask For Help - Ha! This one is really hard for me. But, I've found that if I just tell my husband I need help, instead of making him guess what I'm thinking, I get a lot more help!

3. Quick Night Time Clean Up - Every night, after we put the kids to bed, my husband and I always do a quick pick up of the main floor. We do all the dishes, pick up all the toys, and wipe down the kitchen. It takes about 20 minutes, but it saves so much time in the end. Plus, I always feel better with a clean kitchen!

4. Just Breathe - Another one I'm working on! There are moments in my day where I decide to laugh instead of cry, and walk away instead of blow up. I've found that if I can let the little things go, my day runs much more smoothly. And, I'm happier too!

5. Get A Routine - A set routine, that you follow every day, is an amazing God send! Sometimes I've found myself wishing that my kids didn't know the routine, because it does make it more difficult when the routine changes. But, my children ask to go to bed, take a bath, and clean up because they know exactly what comes next. It's really nice.

6. Set A Budget - If you have a budget, you don't have to worry about where your money is going. Not to mention, you don't have the guilt of overspending. I find that having a budget makes my life so much easier. Hmmm, should I buy my son this really cool train? Nope, not in the budget. It goes along with the routine, once you have control of your time and your money, you feel so much more serene.

7. Stockpile - Have a stockpile of food staples that your family uses often. If you run out of money for the month, no stress, you can eat the food you have saved. There's never an excuse for eating out because you always have something to eat in the house. Plus, stockpiling really saves you from have to go to the grocery store as often.

8. Park By the Cart Ranch - I know, you already do this, but there are plenty of moms I see out there that don't. Before I had kids I of course scouted for the closet parking spot, because really who wants to walk, right? But now, I park at the edge of the parking lot if it means I can park by the cart ranch. First, it means I don't have to leave my kids unattended to go grab the cart, and second it makes unloading so much easier and saves you time in the long run!

9. Schedule Yearly Physicals - For yourself, and your car! When you keep up on regular maintenance in your life, you can easily avoid the huge explosions. Seeing your doctor, dentist, car mechanic, etc. regularly prevents you from facing emergencies which add emotional and monetary stress.

10. Shop Online - This is my favorite tip, I love online shopping! There are so many fun sites that allow you to find coupon codes and bargains. When done right, it really is cheaper and easier than dragging all your little ones to the store.

I hope at least one of these no-nonsense tips helps you make your life easier. There are days when I feel like I have them all in the bag, and others where I'm sure that I'm a total hypocrite. But, just remember no matter the stress of it all your babies love you and that makes it all worth it!
I mean there really isn't a yummier or easier way to get your daily nutrients than a smoothie.

Thanks to Yoplait and My Blog Spark, I was able to try two varieties of Yoplait's Frozen Smoothies. We tried the Strawberry Mango Pineapple and the new Blueberry Pomegranate, and they were both sooo delicious.

Not only did they both taste good, but I really like the fact that I'm getting fruits like mango and pomegranate into my kiddos, fruits which we normally don't buy. I also love that each package of Yoplait Frozen Smoothies contains one full serving of fruit, live and active cultures from the Yoplait yogurt, and when made with milk are a good source of calcium.

Did I mention that Yoplait Frozen Smoothies have been shown on The Biggest Loser? I LOVE that show, and it's no surprise that they endorse Yoplait's smoothies because they are quick, delicious and low calorie.

These smoothies blended up quickly and easily with the Kitchen-Aid 3 Speed Blender, and made a great afternoon snack for myself and my kiddos.

I have bringing home new babies down, and here are some tips for you new mommies to be on how to keep your house clean and germ free!

1. Micro-Steam Bags - These bags are great for pump parts, pacifiers, syringes and bottles. They are a quick and easy way to disinfect anything small.

2. Hand Sanitizer - I keep this all over my house whenever there is a newborn around. That way it is easy to ask visitors to wash their hands real quick before they pick up the baby.

3. Spare Pacifiers - These things are devious. They will fall on the ground, and they will bounce under the couch, in the dog water, under the toilet, pretty much wherever you don't want it to go. Sometimes it is easier to just grab the spare, or the second spare than clean the lost binky.

4. Clean Now, Before the Baby Comes - A few weeks before your baby is due, clean everything in the nursery. Wash everything with a mild cleanser, and don't forget to wash things like the Boppy or other cloth items with Dreft or another mild detergent. If you do it now, you don't have to worry about doing it later.

5. Disinfecting Wipes - These suckers are great to keep around as your child gets older, or for quick messes. You will have to clean up poop, urine, spit-up, vomit off the floor, your clothes, the bed, etc. These wipes are great for when you need to do a quick clean-up on the floor or another hard surface. I like to keep these around because I can wipe it and disinfect with one swipe, which prevents my big kids and dogs from getting into the mess.

6. Breastfeed - If you are bringing home a baby in the winter months, during flu season, the best thing you can do is breastfeed. Breastmilk builds up your baby's immune system, and changes with each feeding to match your child's needs. Even if you can only nurse for the first few weeks or first few days, do it!

7. Oxi-Clean - You will be amazed how many outfits a newborn can go through in a day. Oxi-Clean is the best thing I've found for getting out baby stains. I ususally just mix it with a little water and slather it on. If it doesn't work the first time, I have a stain bucket, and once I have enough stained clothes to fill it I make an Oxi-Clean soak overnight and then wash the clothes. I've gotten every stain out this way!

8. Dishwasher - This may seem obvious, but the dishwasher is a great sanitizer. It steams everything, so using it to wash and sanitize baby bottles is the easiest method I've found. It's also great for pacifiers, sippy cups, and syringes.

9. Have Mulitples - You will need several crib sheets, mattress pads, changing table covers, receiving blankets, and onesies. Having multiples of these makes it easy to toss out a messy one and throw on a clean one. You are going to have your hands full, so you might not get to the laundry right away. Or if you're like me, you might not get to it in the next three days, so having multiples keeps everything clean and germ free and allows you to take your time doing the laundry.

10. Bleach - Bottom line, bleach is your friend. It's cheap, and diluted it is a very good disinfectant. You can use bleach to disinfect any hard surface, and I use it all the time when a little one has an accident in the bath tub. After I clean the tub out, I just fill it back up with water put all the affected toys in, and put in the appropriate amount of bleach.

These are my favorite tips for keeping a clean and germ free house, which makes for happy and healthy babies. And everyone knows that a happy baby means a happy mommy!
Here are so great ways to use that Vaseline up, and same money as well!

1. Moisturizer - I love to put vaseline on my elbows before a shower. It works great on your cuticles as well as a substitution for Lanolin as a moisturizer.

2. Make Salt Scrubs - My mom swears by salt scrubs. It's so easy to make your own at home with Vaseline. Simply combine Vaseline, with some sea salt. You could add in your favorite fragrant oils, and have a nice scrub for the shower!

3. Save Your Pumpkin - This is my all-time favorite use for Vaseline, and it is perfect for the season. After you've carved your pumpkin, just rub Vaseline along the edges, and it will prevent it from rotting. One of my friends told me about this a couple of years ago, and it really works!

4. Household Lubricant - Have a squeaky faucet or door? You can use Vaseline as a lubricant to prevent squeaks and screeches, just apply it to both parts of the hinge.

5. Get Off A Ring - I've had the unfortunate experience of trying this one....if your ring gets stuck, use a little Vaseline. Or, maybe a lot as in my case. I just didn't want to give up wearing my wedding ring just because I was pregnant. =)

6. Prevent Stuck Nail Polish Lids - Here is another one of my favorites, smear a little on the threads of a nail polish bottle and you can prevent it from sticking next time. I don't know about you, but since I get to paint my nails about twice a year, I usually have some trouble opening it the next time.

7. Revive Old Leathers - This is one my grandma taught me. Rub Vaseline on cracked leather or leather shoes, and it softens the leather like new. I have tried this one and a little goes a long way, but it really works!

8. Prevent Shampoo From Getting Into Your Baby's Eyes - My grandma also gave me this one, but I haven't tried it. You can put a line of Vaseline above your little ones brow and it stops the water from dripping down into your babe's eyes. My little ones are too quick for this, and I've been worried about getting the Vaseline in their eyes, however once they are a little older I can totally see this working.

9. Prevent Leaks While Scuba Diving - Here's one I learned when my hubby and I took Scuba Diving lessons before our wedding. Men with mustaches can use it to prevent leaking from their masks during dives. I can't say I've ever tried it myself, but I know my teacher did and it worked! As a side note, men with mustaches wearing scuba diving masks are quite a sight to see.

10. Shiny Teeth - So I've never been in a beauty pageant myself, but I have watched many on TV. Not to mention all the new reality shows about beauty pageants, and I learned that a little Vaseline on your teeth makes them pretty and shiny for the pageant. I wouldn't really want to try this myself, but maybe if you want pearly whites for pictures this could be a good trick!

So, next time you're looking at that half used bottle of Vaseline in the linen closet, think about what you can do with it. It has so many uses, even beyond what I've listed here. Do you have any to add?

Their service is reliable, and they have the cutest designs. Oftentimes there are great coupon codes too, which really helps when it comes to holiday cards and Christmas cards.

This was my son's first birthday invitation, and to this day it is one of my favorites. I just love how it shows his growth over his first year of life.

This year Shutterfly has got some great Christmas Card options. They have some for every family ranging from classic to modern. Check out some of my favorites:

So I'm pretty sure this is going to be my Christmas card this year! (Sorry to ruin the surprise for all my friends and family!) I really like to have a religious Christmas card, and I love how this one is simple and classy. I also like the four photo option, so we can have a single photo of each or our babes and one family photo too! Plus I love the black and white photos with the black and white card, just beautiful!

I love this card! I really like how the photo is the background, which makes it feel very modern, but then it has the old-timey touches with the font and holly berries. I also like how the text block at the bottom is semi-transparent so it doesn't cover up the picture.

And here's another adorable one. I guess I just really love the simple clean cards. These cards really put the focus on the pictures, and for me that is what Christmas is really about, family. And personally, I use Christmas photo cards in scrapbooking, and often times frame them as well. So I appreciate when the card is mostly picture as opposed to a lot of text, and a smaller picture.

So tell me, what do you look for in a Christmas Card? Have you started thinking about your Christmas Cards yet?

I've cashed out $65 in Amazon.com gift cards in less than a year...what, you want one too?

The swag bucks trickle in at first, but once you get in the groove you can earn free money fast!Rachelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14157116168058451736noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5800684241957036359.post-37169379228469734072010-10-20T23:06:00.003-05:002010-10-21T07:56:36.440-05:00A Few More Hy-Vee Deals While Your Buying Free Cereal....While you're at Hy-Vee picking up your 6 boxes of free cereal, here's some more deals you might wanna try!
