Plane Crazy is a 1928 American animated short film directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. The cartoon, produced by Disney Cartoons, is the first finished film to be produced by the studio and the first produced short to star Mickey Mouse and his girlfriend Minnie Mouse. It was originally produced as a silent film before test screening to a theater audience and potential distributors on May 15, 1928. An executive from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer saw the film, but the film failed to pick up a distributor. Later that year, Disney released Mickey’s first sound cartoon, Steamboat Willie, which was an enormous success; Plane Crazy was officially released as a sound cartoon on March 17, 1929 by Celebrity Pictures.

It was the fourth Mickey film to be given a wide release after Steamboat Willie, as well as The Gallopin’ Gaucho and The Barn Dance (1929). Columbia Pictures reissued the film after Walt Disney Productions switched distributors.

Hell’s Bells is a 1929 comedy horror animated short film directed by Ub Iwerks and produced by Walt Disney. It was distributed to cinemas by the film company Columbia Pictures, who would also distribute other Walt Disney films such as Winter. The film follows Satan and the other devils’ happenings in Hell. One of these devils revolts against Satan and ends up kicking him off the cliff of Hell. The short is part of short film series Silly Symphonies.

The film score features a variety of classical compositions, including “In the Hall of the Mountain King” by Edvard Grieg, which is used near the end of the film as one of the demons kicks Satan off the cliff. Another is “Funeral March of a Marionette” by French composer Charles Gounod, which is also known as the theme tune to the television series “Alfred Hitchcock Presents”. The opening theme of Felix Mendelssohn’s “Hebrides” overture is also heard.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (also known as Oswald the Rabbit, Oswald Rabbit, and Ozzie) is an animated cartoon character created in 1927 by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks for Universal Pictures. He starred in several animated short films released to theaters from 1927 to 1938. Twenty-seven animated Oswald shorts were produced at the Walt Disney Studio.

After Universal took control of Oswald’s character in 1928, Disney created a new character similar in appearance to Oswald as a replacement: Mickey Mouse, who went on to become one of the most famous cartoon characters in the world.

Feline Follies is a 1919 animated short film, distributed by Paramount Pictures. It marked the first appearance of the character Felix the Cat.

The film was produced by the Pat Sullivan Studio of New York City, owned by Australian animator Pat Sullivan. It is a matter of dispute whether to attribute the film and Felix’s creation to Sullivan himself, or to Otto Messmer, the studio’s lead animator. Messmer’s claim to have been the sole creator of Felix has parallels in animation history. Ub Iwerks claimed that he created Mickey Mouse, instead of studio owner Walt Disney. Grim Natwick claimed that he created Betty Boop, instead of studio owner Max Fleischer.

Private Snafu undertakes a clandestine operation in Axis Japan.

Private Snafu is the title character of a series of black-and-white American instructional adult animated shorts, ironic and humorous in tone, that were produced between 1943 and 1945 during World War II. The films were designed to instruct service personnel about security, proper sanitation habits, booby traps and other military subjects, and to improve troop morale. Primarily, they demonstrate the negative consequences of doing things wrong. The main character’s name is a play on the military slang acronym SNAFU, “Situation Normal: All Fucked Up”. (The cleaned-up version of that phrase, usually used on radio and in print, was “Situation Normal: All Fouled Up”.)
