What I want is to post a tweet each time I add a new blog post on this blog. I want the tweet to be formatted as “Blog: The post title” with a shortened link that points to the post. Also, I want this link to contain Google Analytics tags so I can track if twitter is popular compared to my RSS feeds.

I was able to achieve this using a combination of :

1. the Twitter tools plug-in, that takes care of posting to twitter
2. and this code snippet that takes care of adding the Google Analytics tags and shortening the link.

Now, let’s hit that publish button to see if it works …

okcupid a été fondé par quatre diplômés en mathématique et ça parait dans leur blog bourré de statistiques. Leur dernier billet analyse l’envoi de message personnels VS les notes d’appréciation des photos de profils. Super intéressant de voir comment le comportement des hommes et des femmes est différent.

Je suis particulièrement heureux de voir la répartition des votes d’appréciations de photos des hommes envers les femmes. La courbes est presque parfaitement symétrique, comme quoi est pas devenus si cons et désillusionnés par le méchant monde de la pub qui projette une “fausse image de la beauté féminine”.

World of Goo, c’est leur hit. Un petit jeu de physique fort sympathique.

Cette semaine, pour le premier anniversaire de sortie de leur jeu, ils ont fait un spécial en la forme d’un “pay-what-you-want”. L’intérêt est dans le fait qu’ils ont partagé avec nous les statistiques de cette expérience de vente sur leur blog. Très intéressant.

Je crois que l’outil Street View change considérablement le rapport que les utilisateurs ont avec leur ville.

Dans notre cas, nous avons déjà eu la chance d’expérimenter l’outil avec d’autres villes, nous avons donc dépassé l’étape de la découverte et savons comment s’en servir. On isole donc la chose à observer: l’impact d’un outil de la sorte quand le contenu devient intimement relié à nos activités et déplacement quotidiens, aux endroits physiques dans lesquels ont vit depuis “toujours”.

En passant, pour la photo, je me suis promené pour trouver une belle vue pano du centre-ville. J’ai pensé à ce spot sur la route du pont de la concorde, en face d’Habitat 67, un chemin reconnu par les amis cyclistes. Ensuite, j’ai joué dans photoshop avec mon screenshot.

Quand à moi, j’occupe maintenant de nouvelles fonction chez provokat ou j’ai la responsabilité de jouer dans le code. J’ai donc beaucoup à apprendre et je passe la plupart de mes temps libre à lire et essayer des trucs plutôt que de blogger et/ou twitter. Désolé!

Ah oui! j’ai aussi fait du pain. C’est pour ça la photo, parce qu’un article sans image c’est plate.

My husband and I were exploring Lake Minnewanka in Banff National Park-Canada when we stopped for a timed picture of the two of us. We had our camera set up on some rocks and were getting ready to take the picture when this curious little ground squirrel appeared, became intriqued with the sound of the focusing camera and popped right into our shot! A once in a lifetime moment! We were laughing about this little guy for days!!

Konigi.com is a great ressource for UX professionnals and enthusiasts. They have a lot of articles and tools. I found this website while searching for template documents to use with OmniGraffle. They have an excellent package that you can find here.

I’ve been very picky about scrobbling everything I was listening to. Whenever I was at work, at home, walking or driving with my iPod…I think I managed to track more than 98% of the music that gets in my ears. So now, let’s see some geeky-nerdy-indie-stats:

• 14, 409 songs in the span two years. That is an average of 20 songs per day. It seems high, but it could be considered as a little more than one album per day, which makes a lot of sense.
• My most listened artists are:
  • Coldplay and The Beatles. Nothing surprising here. It’s always a good time for those UK sounds.
  • Feist: this one is because of my girlfriend. Don’t get me wrong, I love what this girl does but I just don’t think it would be 3rd if it was just for me.
  • The Weakerthans: this is definitely my favorite band. I’ve been consistently appreciating their work for the past 8 years.
  • Vampire Weekend: That was the album that played in the car every single time that we hit the road in 2007.
  • MGMT: the best album in 2008 in my opinion. Every song is awesome.
• My most listened albums are:
  • The Beatles – Love: The remastered compilation from the Cirque du Soleil show. It’s often the one I pick when I want to listen to the Beatles because the sound is great and the selection of songs if good.
  • MGMT – Oracular Spectacular: As I said, this is the best album I listened to since 2008.
  • Flight of The Conchords: These are the song from the their excellent TV series. These guys are hilarious and it became the official “road-trip” album in 2009 when we got tired of Vampire Weekend.
• My most listened tracks are not a good representation of what happened. I can assure you that I was seriously hooked on one single song in the last two years and it was Born to Please by Sound Team. That song is perfect, the drums, the guitars, the voices and the bass… THE BASS!

A couple of postcards from exported friends in Germany.

It seems that the theme of 2009 was Whisky. My little bar is getting better and better! See the full flickr set here.

First, I bought myself a bottle of Balvenie 12 years Double Wood last week, then I received a Talisker 18 years and an Highland Park 18 years this week. I can’t wait to taste all of these. For now, my favorite label is the Balvenie, because of the great typographic work on it.

A friend also gave my that wonderful and extensive book about whiskey, written by Michael Jackson, the one who’s still alive and kicking.

And the last but not the least, a sweet Pantone mug that is now my official work mug. Call me if your logo uses that green and I’ll let you know what it looks like on a mug. This product can be found at the awesome Style Labo shop on Bernard Street.

Sometimes, life is very nice with me. As when I stop by a local fast-food chain to get some fries for a BBQ party and the car next to me is an original 1983 DeLorean DMC-12. I’m also a bit lucky when the driver sees me taking pictures and invites me to sit inside. That was the best day of the summer so far (flickr set)

Michael Jackson’s Star

As you may already know, since yesterday people have been gathering around Michael Jackson’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The problem is that the MJ’s star was blocked by a movie premiere, so people actually gathered around the wront MJ star, Michael Jackson’s, a radio commentator. On his blog, he says:

I think I found my coffin this week. It’s actually a shelf system that can be converted to a modest coffin once you don’t need the shelves anymore because you are dead. Great idea!

In iPhoto, I kept an album of all my iPhone wallpapers that I synced through iTunes. That worked great for a year, but since last week I’m trying out Aperture and I came across a small problem with my wallpapers where their resolution is awful once synced to the iPhone.

When syncing from an Aperture Library you actually only sync the previews of you pictures. By default, Aperture creates previews at 1/2 the resolution of the original files for saving space and processing time. This is usefull for hi-res pictures, but bad for the iPhone Wallpapers because they are at the exact resolution of the iPhone screen. The quick and easy solution is to:

1. change the preferences of Aperture’s Limit preview size to Don’t Limit.

2. regenerate the previews by selecting all pictures in the album, right-click and Update Previews

3. Re-sync the album to the iPhone through iTunes.

I suggest you set your Aperture’s preferences back to the original settings if you want Aperture to create small previews that are actually useful for hi-res pictures. If you keep the Don’t limit option, your library will likely double its size over time (originals + full-res previews)

Il y a deux ans je traversais le Canada à vélo avec mon ami Olivier. Nous avions entretenu un blog durant presque tout le périple (nous avons été lâches sur les updates durant le Québec et l’Atlantique)

Je viens de faire ressusciter le blog ici et de le bonifier de photos. Je crois qu’il peut encore être une bonne lecture, surtout pour quelqu’un qui tente un voyage de la sorte.

Une des plus belle chose que j’ai vue cette année. La choréographie est déchirante et touchante. Par moment, on pense que la machine pourrait écraser l’homme et l’instant d’après on la sent plus fragile que lui. Tout simplement génial.

Bravo au danseur et à l’opérateur/artiste de l’engin.

Pro-Idee are selling a bird nest box equipped with a wireless camera and microphone that plugs in your TV. This is a great idea. Instead of buying this, I made a note to myself to build one with my future kids. Also, ours will stream live on the web and I bet we’ll get six eggs instead of five. Nahhaaan!

After numerous hours spent on Craigslist and Kijiji, I finally managed to get one at SOS Vélo yesterday. SOS Vélo is were they build those Ecovelo bikes that we often see in the city. But they also sell used bikes that they receive as donations and I was lucky enough to pick one of the two they had in stock for 135$: a great pinkish Niji bike (links to flickr set) that I’ll spend the summer riding and upgrading.

I’ll keep you posted.
