Short version of this week’s show: We suck as Boy Scouts.

Despite the fact that normally Evan is normally an experienced and fully capable podcast host, occasionally mistakes are made. And while Peninsula has pretty outstanding Malaysian cuisine and is right in the heart of the one of the best eating districts in Minneapolis, finding batteries in a pinch can be a bit tricky. And to the surprise of all, Evan did not pansy out when the heat was on, much to the dismay of Glenn Frey.

Another guest show this week. Not that someone else is doing the show, or some other show is in it’s place. No, we have a guest on tonight’s show. His name is Teddy Hobbins, and he writes for City Pages as well as his own blog called Hungry In Southwest. Teddy joins Dave and Evan at Cupcake and talks about his love of sandwiches, about which he writes extensively, and how being a “good” Catholic boy is giving him the no-meat shakes.

We also briefly go over The Oscars, which you can talk about here on our forums. Evan also mentions Logorama and The New Tenants, which you should watch.

It’s not often the guys go for the wine, normally going for beer or soda. It might be because they are alergic to culture, it’s hard to say. But when presented with a wine list as extensive as that at The First Course, you must slap on a monocle and pretend you are worth something.

Kind of a scattershot show this week. Evan talks about his impending adulthood, Dave takes about things orgasming in his mouth, both of them eat crazy good food, and you are all wondering why Evan is so mean to Dave. Take it from someone who knows: he deserves it.

It’s been a long time coming, and no one thought it was possible. But despite having no discernible talent, few if any social graces, and little to no real worth as people, Dave and Evan have some how managed to do 100 episodes of The Well Fed Guide To Life.

And what a show! Marvel at Evan’s explanation why Enrique Iglesias’s hotness means that sangria isn’t a girl drink. Cower before Dave’s ego, propped up only by self-delusion and the occasional salty treat. And wonder aloud why El Meson didn’t throw the bums out at the first opportunity.

In all honesty, it’s been a great 100 episodes, made all the better by the support of our fans. Thank you all very much, and keep acting as ambassadors for this show and all the others on Fancy Pants Gangsters.com

There is something to be said about not upsetting the natural balance of things. So it should come as no surprise that by planning an episode of Well Fed Guide To Life, we doomed it to fall in our laps like so much pulled pork.

Dave and I were planning on having a guest on for next week’s 100th episode of The Well Fed Guide To Life. Unfortunately our guest will not be able to make the recording this week, leaving us wondering how we can best celebrate nearly 2 years of recorded overeating. So in true lazy fashion, we are asking for your help.

Another late recorded show this week, as the guys hit another of the many local food stops that can’t seem to open on Mondays. This week, Dave and Evan cross The Anchor Fish And Chips off the list, an act that will surely leave that list greasy and smelling vaguely of fish. Over a hard plate of deep fried goodness, such important things like a guy’s 5 dishes he must be good at and how Alton Brown’s portions are too big for mere mortals are discussed. They also cover the Surly Brewing tour and the importance of spats. Clearly the grease has gotten to their brains.

Well Fed Guide To Life Episode 98 – A Case Of The Mondays

Just about everything related to this show was late this week. We recorded this late, released it late, and Dave is late. Mrs. Bergen, you’re going to be a grandma!

Since this was recorded on a Tuesday, when the number of open eating establishments nearly doubles over that on Monday, the guys busted out the list of Places Not Open and at the very top was the Town Talk Diner. After burning several bridges at Food Network and dealing with miffed fans, it’s a good thing this place serves stiff drinks.

I’ll be a little honest here, I’m pretty surprised we’ve gone 97 episodes without using that title.

Neither rain, nor sleet, nor drifting fish flakes will keep us from our appointed rounds, but closings might. Disproving the notion that second place is the first loser, True Thai made an fine substitution for our prefered choice (I’m not telling you where it is, in case we do it later). Dave tries something with a face, Evan eats the official sweet and sour dish of the St. Paul School System, and both of them discuss the importance of youthful bounceback in eggroll wrappers. And it could be the cabin fever, but the guys also discuss pork vs Viagra and the supposed 10 hottest women in food. Now how much would you pay?

It’s funny that for all the guff (that’s right, I said guff. We are in PG rated territory people) that the boys give Giada for overpronouncing words (we called the Trebek Effect), they have no problem butchering other cultures’ native tongues. Hypocrisy, thy name is Well Fed Guide!

It’s not often Minnesota is thrust onto the world stage (at least, not when it doesn’t involve some crazy local politician), so it was with great honor that Saffron head chef Sameh Wadi was recently pitted against Masaharu Morimoto in Iron Chef America. While I won’t spoil the ending for you, mostly because even Evan and Dave haven’t seen the episode yet, we can say that Saffron’s deft usage of spices and cute baby animal parts will more than likely win over the only 2 judges that matter. Now if we could only get Ted Allen on the show…
