Say what you will, the Nicolas Cage Hair Length vs Film Quality Ratio has largely yet to be disproven, and Sorcerer’s Apprentice doesn’t look like it’s going to upset this universal truth.

Old favorites and new locations abound this month, as the Army does it’s first War Room in Pants Tower. While it lacks the defensibility of the still-in-progress Casa De Pantalones, it does have that certain bourgeois charm.

So yeah, this is late. And a bit slapdash. But to be honest, May (and June) has kicked the crap out of the F.I.L.M. Army, so we couldn’t put on a show to the level you have come to expect. But the segments we did have were pretty keen, if you ask me, and it would be a shame to waste them. So without further ado, please enjoy this month’s edition of the The F.I.L.M. Army.

Army is overlong and either a landmark episode in its own right, or a sad reminder of past glories. So, will we be Return Of The King or Spiderman 3? It’s too bad we couldn’t get Dokken to do our theme song this time, as that is the best indicator of success in all things, film or otherwise.

Save The Date: March 1st

While march 1st isn’t any sort of voodoo holiday that I am aware of, there will be two Fancy Pants Gangsters shows returning from the dead on that auspicious day.

The Film Army, gone these past many months, will be returning in a new, monthly format. This new longer prep time will allow us to go much more in depth with our features and interviews and put a level of polish on the show that doing a weekly show wasn’t allowing us to do. The new Film Army will release on the first of every month.

And while I could say something along the lines of everything I already said, I’ll let Courtney do the talking here…

At the risk of sounding cliche, change is good. That’s why over at the Midwest Ska Moment, I’ve been refining, regrouping and retooling your favorite ska podcast. Some things will stay the same (same host, same podcast network, covering the same great genre of music), however, the changes will be vast improvements. I have expanded the scope of the show to cover artists, bands, DJs, and bloggers who have contributed to the overall national ska/reggae/rocksteady music scene, not just the Midwest. The show format will change from me prattling on about bands to me interviewing the bands directly. Since interviews take longer than a usual episode, I have decided to expand the length of the episode from around 10 minutes to about 45 minutes. This is why the show will no longer be called the Midwest Ska Moment. So instead, it is with great pleasure to announce the beginning of the Flyover Ska Show, giving you an in-depth look at the world of ska, reggae, and rocksteady in the US from right here in flyover country.

So there you have it. Mark your calendars for March 1st as Fancy Pants Day (as opposed to No Pants Day, which is nearly every other day here at Pants Command).

So after over a month away from talking about movies, we figured we should at least get the old gang back together for one more go round of talking about movies, in this case a somewhat belated 2009 In Review. Hopefully this will tide you over while we retool our film show into something that won’t cause Evan to pull what little hair he has left out. If you have ideas, feel free to leave them in the forums. We hope to be back up slinging our movie talk very soon. In the meantime, enjoy the show!

You might notice the shows are a bit light this week, as most of the Gangsters are off visiting family, eating too much, and looking back on their lives with regrets. Or as Dave calls it, Tuesday.

F.I.L.M. Army on temporary hiatus

As I’m typing this, it is my birthday. And while I am once again reminded of how good I have it, there is still a nagging pain in my gut. Most people know that I treat all our shows like my children, which means more than just random beatings and drunken resentment. I want every single one of them to succeed, not just for my sake, but for the sakes of all the other hosts and the network as a whole.

Which is what makes this announcement all the more annoying. As of today, F.I.L.M. Army is on hiatus while Jay and I, along with Jeff and the other Gangsters, figure out what we want to do. Both Jay and I really want to do a film show on Fancy Pants, but it’s getting tougher and tougher to put together a show of quality and not just us talking about the newest releases.

I want to say that this isn’t a comment on Jay, Jeff, or anyone else who contributed to the show so far. They have made doing the show fun enough that I labored over this decision for weeks longer than I would have otherwise. Nor is it a comment on our special guest host Chase from Who Asked You?, who was due to be on this week’s show (incidentally, his choice would make an excellent substitute for your DVD release news and angry diatribe needs. You should check them out.) This has more to do with our obligations outside the network and our commitment to doing good shows.

My hope is that we will be back up in some form by late January. We might release a random episode here and there in the mean time to keep our iTunes listing going, so don’t unsubscribe yet. In the mean time, if you want to give your suggestions or comments while we retool the show, check out my forum post here.

I’m looking forward to getting back to doing great film netcasts, and I’m glad to know that we have patient listeners who will make sure we have a reason to keep doing them. Thanks again, everyone!

(On a side note: None of the other shows on Fancy Pants Gangsters are in danger of going away, except maybe Midwest Ska Moment, but that’s just for the holidays. So don’t fret too much).

And with that, Evan reclaims his crown as the worst punster of all time. He’s unduly proud, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Short show this week, as the Midwestern cold snap has frozen our microphones, forcing us to burn old copies of Spaced Invaders for warmth. Not all copies, though. Gotta keep one, it’s a Halloween tradition after all.
