With six EDSFootball.com contributors making preseason predictions, our NFC West predictions are in the books and the consensus is for the Seahawks to finish second in the division.

Personally, I predicted the Seahawks to finish 7-9 and here's what I wrote:

The Seahawks have employed a round-too-early draft philosophy and have worked on cornering the market in wide receivers that nobody else seemed to want with the recent additions of Braylon Edwards and Terrell Owens. Sidney Rice, who is coming off twin shoulder surgeries, expects to be ready for Week 1 and the team signed free-agent quarterback Matt Flynn this offseason, but their main concerns are in the passing game so Edwards and Owens should be able to contribute provided they make the 53-man roster.

On a positive note, they have an underrated defense that ranked ninth in the league. In addition, their offense is centered around their ground attack led by Marshawn Lynch. Provided Lynch can stay out of trouble (after his recent DUI arrest) and motivated (after getting a big contract this offseason), he was one of the biggest surprises last year and was dominant from Week 9 on. During that nine-game span, he rushed for 941 yards, had 17 receptions for 129 yards and scored a total of 10 touchdowns.

Last but not least, the Seahawks have great fans and a huge home-field advantage. (After all, they retired No. 12 in honor of their fans.)

Out of the six contributors, here are the stats on the Seahawks:

- Most wins: 9 (Trifone and Woodhull)
- Fewest wins: 5 (Beazley)
- Average wins: 7.67

How many games do you think they will win?

For links to all of our predictions (all divisions and all contributors), click here. The Seattle Seahawks have traded a 7th-round pick, that could turn into a 6th-round pick, to the Bucs for tight end Kellen Winslow. Earlier today, the Bucs signed Dallas Clark.

Reportedly, the Bucs weren't pleased with Winslow's workout plan. Winslow was not attending the team's "voluntary" workouts.

In his three seasons in Tampa, Winslow has had 66-77 receptions and 730-884 yards each season. Last year, Zach Miller had only 25 receptions for 233 yards, both of which were career lows, for the Seahawks.
Statistics: Posted by edsfootball — Tue May 22, 2012 5:21 am

From today until March 5th, NFL teams can designate players with the franchise tag (we will track 'em all here).

NFL Network's Jason La Canfora takes a team-by-team look at who may be designated with the franchise tag and here's what he wrote about the Seahawks and RB Marshawn Lynch:

"Seahawks: The Seahawks are deep in talks with running back Marshawn Lynch on a long-term deal, which could well be completed before the March 5 deadline. If that somehow falls apart, the Seahawks are prepared to tag Lynch, according to a source with knowledge of the situation."

As Gregg Rosenthal of Pro Football Talk writes, "We think using the tag on Lynch makes a lot more sense than a long-term deal. He’s been an inconsistent player throughout his career that only played his best in the second half of last season. Why not make him back up the performance or go year-to-year with a player that already has plenty of wear and tear on his legs?"

I agree. Thoughts?
Statistics: Posted by edsfootball — Mon Feb 20, 2012 2:41 pm
