York 4.10 Sometimes I look at my stats and ratings and one jumps out of the page and that is the case with MEDIA HYPE here who tops a lot of ratings here. The only real problem is that he is ‘only’ 5/1 which is not ideally my kind of price but it may drift before the off and I simply can’t ignore all the positive stats in this case. Sandusky is an obvious danger but doesn’t make too much appeal as a value alternative and similar comments apply to Barren Brook and Shamdarley. Silvery Moon and Maverick are two alternatives at prices but their are stamina doubts about both that pair. I’m going to take a bit of a chance and just go with JUDGE N JURY. As I said yesterday I am not generally a fan of going with 7lb claimers in competitive handicaps but Darren Edward Egan is one of those rare 7lb claimers who has caught my eye recently with 4 wins in the last 9 days and 4 other placers. This one is top-rated on my ratings, clocks solid speed figures, has a possibly decent low draw and with the jockeys claim is a full 25lb lower than his highest winning mark. He hinted at a return to form last time and should at the very least hit the frame. JUDGE N JURY 1pt ew @ 10/1 (generally available BOG)

I did think it would be a race to swerve until I saw the 22/1 on offer about PRINCE OF JOHANNE which I believe represent the best value option in the race. He was a bit of a shock Cambridgeshire winner but he did win the race and also won on his seasonal debut last year. He is a consistent performer generally speaking and I think can reward each-way support and if reproducing close to that Newmarket effort last backend could even win. “York 2.00 Another tough looking handicap where the market ‘appears’ to have it right. I have York Glory top ‘just’ ahead of Shropsire. Again the fitness angle would swing me towards Shropshire but the two at a price are SECRET WITNESS and Tajneed. Tajneed is 7lb lower than his highest winning handicap mark and has been showing progressive speed figures on my ratings his last 3 runs as if to indicate a big run is on the cards. The jockey is the main question mark I have as I’m not a fan of 7lb claimers in big handicaps although theoritically it means he is a stone lower than his highest winning mark. For me I would rather side with a professional jockey and so preference is for the excellent James Doyle’s mount SECRET WITNESS who is fit from the all-weather where he was not disgraced at this level and when 2nd to Docofthebay in a listed sprint. He looks e/w value with Shropshire the chief threat.SECRET WITNESS 1pt ew @ 18/1”

I will be looking for selective, value bets over all 3 days before the focus switches to Ascot on Saturday and the Victoria Cup. We didn’t find the Classic winners at the weekend but did find Maarek on Sunday at a juicy 12/1 to ensure we started out with a decent profit for the Insiders Club selections of +5.2pts over the 2 days. Here is what was put out in the preview email –:
