The folks at Wordstream, a PPC software provider has done research to discover which keywords receive the highest costs per click (CPC) in Google AdWords.

Here are the top 20 keyword categories that fetched the highest costs per click:

1. Insurance – $54.91 per click

2. Loans – $44.28 per click

3. Mortgage – $47.12 per click

4. Attorney – $47.07 per click

5. Credit – $36.06 per click

6. Lawyer – $42.51 per click

7. Donate – $42.02 per click

8. Degree – $40.61 per click

9. Hosting – $31.91 per click

10. Claim – $45.51 per click

11. Conference Call – $42.05 per click

12. Trading – $33.19 per click

13. Software – $35.29 per click

14. Recovery – $42.03 per click

15. Transfer – $29.86 per click

16. Gas/Electricity – $54.62 per click

17. Classes – $35.04 per click

18. Rehab – $33.59 per click

ICANN, the global body that contols the internet name space, has announced the addition of new top level domains (TLD).
to date only 22 top level domains such as .com and .org have been made available.

With the addition of new TLD’s the Internet landscape will grow exponentially and it opens up a realm of possibilities to web savvy entrepreneurs.

When launched it be possible to register your own top level domain such as .jonathan or .walmart, .hotel or even .travel! It’s not for the faint hearted though as it’ll cost upwards of $185,000 just to register a new TLD. Large brands will undoubtedly queue to secure their brand names as the TLD will become a symbol of trust – for instance, I’d love to do my online banking at online.absa or shop at .amazon.

What does this mean for the .co.za namespace? I’m betting that you’ll seen see .ZAR or . SouthAfrica start trading soon.

Not many people understand how the registration and use of domains and TLD’s work.

Amazon.com pressured to cut affiliates in more US states.

Amazon.com could cut partnership with more affiliates in U.S. states that require the online retailer to collect sales tax, Chief Executive Jeff Bezos said on Wednesday.

Online retailers in the USA have for many years had an advantage over bricks and mortar retailers due to the fact that US states could not tax out of state purchases. As online retailers Amazon and thousands of similar merchants were not required to collect sales tax on purchases made outside the state in which they had a physical location.

This loophole has been closed in many states and is destroying affiliate businesses in the process.
For instance, if an affiliate based in Illinois refers a consumer in the same state to an out of state retailer, Illinois now forces the merchant to collect sales tax.
Last October, Amazon got a $269 million bill for uncollected sales taxes from the state of Texas.

Instead of increasing the tax collection base all that’s happening is that online merchants are discontinuing affiliates in affected states.
An unintended consequence of this legislation has resulted in job losses & lost state revenues as affiliates either closed their businesses or in the case of one major affiliate business, moved their entire business out of state.
