HURRAH! We have got a flag!

From now on, if you will see us on the road holding this wavery - do not be indifferent, stop for us. Even you travel opposite direction, stop by, let's share few words. We live on the road, so it is a good place to meet people.

Last week, from Sunday till Sunday, with a borrowed car we travelled 1800 km around Lithuania. Jesus, how fast we have gone through everything. With our speed we would need a month or two for such a journey... Pictures we will sort and publish later.

Tomorrow morning (Tuesday) we start hitch-hiking directly to Dresden...

Tomorrow morning (Tuesday) we start hitch-hiking directly to Dresden in East Germany. To be more precise - nearby Dresden. We will visit our friends, a family of Colombian Liliana and German Tobias. After staying with them for a few days we will head for Ukraine, where European Rainbow Gathering takes place. It will be very symbolic visit, because 6 years ago in European Rainbow in France started Katja+Augustas (few photos from 2003)

We will be back in Lithuania in about 3 weeks. September 18 in Gera (Germany) Katja will give presentation at the city library. Will you be nearby? Come and see us!

Looks like we have managed. We had to experiment a little bit, but the main idea was like this:

Melt chocolate bar on the stove (we boiled water in a small pot, placed pieces of chocolate into a bowl, and put it on the boiling pot).

Insert wooden sticks inside of (full or half) bananas (we used Chinese sticks).

Hold banana above the bowl and with the help of the spoon, pour chocolate on the fruit.

You will need to think of a construction where to place choco bananas - as at the begining the chocolate will still be soft. Once you are ready -leave your experiment in the freezer (maybe also the fridge might me sufficient).

After sometime - enjoy your choco banana desert! (Do not keep bananas too long in the freezer - otherwise they will become hard as a stone).

If fresh banana does not hold on the wooden stick, try this:

Bananas with the sticks put into the freezer for couple of hours.

Once they are frozen - pour hot chocolate over them.

Keep your creation in the room or in the fridge until the bananas are sufficiently soft to be edible.

Bon Appétit!

Time passes like nothing here in Vilnius. Every day we have appointments, may it be for dental adjustments, Katja's health issues, or Yoga classes. Not to forget about meeting with family, other socializing events, or the participation in cultural events. Since Lithuania is celebrating it's 1000 birthday and is European Capital of Culture 2009 you might get a clue about the richness of events smiling at us everyday in Vilnius. Today we even went to the flea market in order to give away things we do not need anymore.

This time we are staying with Edita and her family. Writing is her passion, and so she published already two books for middle and older adolescents called "Įsimylėjėlių stovykla" (Camp of lovers) in 2008 and "Sūrūs įspūdžiai" (Salty experience) this year. For a couple of months Edita is involved in the democratical movement JDJ - Jungtinį demokratinį judėjimą (UMD - United Movement of Democracy) which tries to motivate Lithuanian citizens to fight for their rights. Today we even went to the flea market in order to give away things we do not need anymore.

This time we are staying with Edita and her family. Augustas met her 12 years ago through Vilnius Hitchhiking Club (VHHC). Although “those days were the best times of [her] life”, Edita’s existence isn’t less joyous today. Writing is her passion, and so she published already two books for middle and older adolescents called “Įsimylėjėlių stovykla” (Camp of lovers) in 2008 and “Sūrūs įspūdžiai” (Salty experience) this year. Her first book even won the “Book of the Year”-title in the teenager category. Let’s hope these books will be available in other languages in the future!

For a couple of months Edita is involved in the democratical movement JDJ - Jungtinį demokratinį judėjimą (UMD - United Movement of Democracy) which tries to motivate Lithuanian citizens to fight for their rights. After re-gaining indepence in 1990 the laid-back attitude of many country-men turned during the last 19 years into a messed up, corrupted state ruled by the rich and influential. It is said that Lithuanians find themselves supressed from the inside of their state, and JDJ - with Kęstutis Čilinskas as founder and chairman - hopes to turn the situation upside down. We cross our fingers for a better future of Lithuania.

To our surprise we found out that Edita is a licenced tour guide, too. She loves the idea of showing people her city and surroundings, especially since she enjoys travelling and discovering new places herself. Edita even set up a website for her guiding tours which helps anyone interested to get a general idea about Lithuania, Vilnius, and other cities and places all around this beautiful country.

Life with her and the family is pretty nice. We even have got our own room because Edita’s daughter was so kind to give up hers. We really cherish having our own corner, a rare occassion with our lifestyle. Due to being so centrally situated we can walk nearly everywhere we need - a way of moving we truly enjoy!

We like calm mornings, so only at 5pm in the afternoon we start from Leipzig towards Norway. Instead of getting straight to the highway we miss the bus stop and end up in Merseburg town. With Frau Weidig (70) from Weißenfels and a man from Aschersleben we make it onto highway A14. Short after arriving with a young guy near Hannover, we got a bus ride from the owner of an overland bus company. Our last ride for the day was a curator bonis in his speedy Mercedes Coupe, who meant that in the night he was not driving so fast. With only 230 km/h on a scale of 350 km/h he might be right. The night we spend near Hamburg under a huge tree in the resting area of a gas station.

Morning procedure - breakfast and making notes about the previous day

Again we enjoy a long breakfast, and catch up with our travel notes. Heino helps us getting straight through Hamburg to nearby Kaltenkirchen, from where a silent man with a well-behaved dog brings us near the Danish border. With a Dutch man on his way to a business meeting we finally get to Haderslev in Denmark. Hours of hitchhiking pass without any success. When the clock strikes 9pm we decide to give up and disappear after our evening meal in our little portable house.

good morning Denmark! a German lady in bathrobe slurping to and fro the public toilet

“I want to travel far today”, states Augustas. Unfortunately, the morning brings not much cars neither. While watching an old German lady in her dressing gown and slippers on her way to the gas station’s toilet, Afif arrives who turns out to be our saviour. We enter Sweden together, and he decides to bring us past Helsingborg, although living in Malmö, and gives up chain smoking while driving. His suffering for us brought him a new record of 1 hour 20 minutes no smoking. With a physically disabled woman and a guy in shorts with 3 curious dogs in his trunk we get near Göteburg. Here we are stuck for hours, until three Germans on their way to their yearly fishing holiday in Trondheim, Norway, bring us to Moss. We finish the day with meeting Audrius, a Lithuanian, who invited us for the next day to Kongsberg, as he sleeps in his car in the same gas station.

so Polish drivers spend their weekends on gas station in Norway

We enjoy a relaxed, sunny morning, working on updating notes about our journey and waiting for Audrius. Two hours after the latest time he said to pick us up we decide to leave towards Bergen. It is 2pm and two young guys with a camper advertising a Norwegian circus bring us to Drammen, where we get on time to fill up our groceries. With a future gardener we get to Bagn, from where a man in his thirties working in an alumium factory brings us until Blåflat. Although 10pm a woman brings us through all the tunnels, of which the longest counts 24,5 km, to Flåm. Here we do not even have time to put down our backpacks, when a young tiler gives us the last ride for the day - directly to Bergen.

Here in Bergen we enjoy until now sunny weather. We spend lots of time with our Latvian friends Rasa and Davids and their cute son Ernests. Both of them arrived in Bergen mid March, currently trying to settle down with their first jobs as kebab seller and car polisher. Not the best jobs, yet they are happy to have something to make their living in Norway, which is not all that easy. Later on they hope to get back into more challenging jobs as travel agent and photographer.

Bergen gives us mixed feelings. It has beautiful corners, but occurs rundown in others. Drug addicts, homeless, and drunk are among usual sights in the streets on our weekend city tour. A big part of the population seem foreigners. Remarkable are the many women with strollers filling side walks and cafés. Summing it up, Bergen is nice, seen from the mountain it is even beautiful. The wind is bearable as long as the sun is shining, rain we experience only once and for very short. Food is pretty expensive up here, so we are happy to discover a small Turkish shop with international food items for modest prices. The second hand shop comes in handy for finding cheap gloves for Katja whose fingers do not adapt easy to the cold wind.

We are thinking to leave Bergen this weekend, but as things are changing often, it can also happen we continue enjoying our stay at Rasa and Davids’ house. At the end, it is always nice to spend more time with friends.

We hope you understand that our life sometimes requires us to spend time on more important things than updating our website.

What are the news right now?

New look of the website

Our website has got a new layout! Augustas was working hard while in Denmark on re-modelling the old design and system. Since blogging is nowadays the easiest way of sharing experiences, he adapted our site to the Wordpress system.
Soon arriving to Lithuania

For the last few days we are visiting our Latvian friends in Bergen, Norway. Initialy we thought of going around the Baltic Sea, passing through Scandinavian countries and arriving to Lithuania. But tonight’s feelings and thoughts are telling us that head for Lithuania right now. Now might be we will be arriving there within a week or so, and staying for 4-5 weeks. The only task left - to find a place to stay over there.

What else did we do in Europe?

We spent four months in Aalborg, Denmark. Augustas got a job at Aalborg University, the place where he did his master and worked several times before. We lived in the city center with a beautiful view over Aalborgs’ roofs. What a luck that 1000fryd, a Folkekøkken (folks’ kitchen) was just across our backyard, so for the first couple of weeks we enjoyed each Tuesday a huge delicious vegan meal for only 20 DKK (2.70 Euros).

We also embarked upon the adventure of Dumpster Diving, which means saving food out of supermarket trash bins. In turn we enjoyed a huge supply of fruits and vegetables free of charge. Thus the “trash” found his way into our stomachs, and wishing the same for our friends, we introduced some to this activity. Previously dieting on plain bread and butter, they now live a healthy life in overall expensive Denmark.

Since the begining of our stay we started playing different games with friends on the weekends. It was really a fun time (specialy during Katja’s birthday in February), and we can say that UNO cards, shooting mafia in the village, and Peter-Peter-Pan-Pan are the best games so far. Other social activities like the discussion club, handicrafts, and cooking made up for the rest of our free time.

Another accomplishment was our 4th fasting, which we did under challenging circumstances. From the first day of fasting we were opposed to an intense social life and the cooking of our hosts, who prepared the greatest delicacies in front of our eyes - and noses. We resisted surprisingly easy and managed to go for a full 20 days fasting.

So much to our last months

A lot of time has passed since we had a chance to share with you our life. Then, our flight to Europe lay still ahead, which now is already far in the past. The last weeks in Argentina were wonderful, marked by steady changes of places and uncountable new friendships made. Although this isn’t anything new for us, this time it happened in twice the speed than usual. There was few time left to share our experiences with you.

The first months in Europe wasn’t at all different. When arriving in Madrid we met with our Colombian friend Nohora who won a one year scholarship for literature studies in Spain. A few hours later we walked towards the highway for hitch-hiking to Germany, this time without my backpack carriage, since it got lost on the airway to Europe. Within two days in unexpectedly cold weather conditions we managed to arrive to Dortmund, where we spent a couple of days with my (Katja) brother’s family. Much sleep was not an issue during our trip to Europe nor in Germany, where Katja’s 5 year old niece was occupying us full time. Here we also met our Colombian friend Angelica who is doing her PhD in veterinary medicine in a town close to Dortmund. Colombia seems everywhere

After a short visit to Bielefeld we headed towards Lithuania. With luck we managed the whole 1.600 km trip in only 22 hours. Sleep was absent of course and in Lithuania was waiting a full program. Taking care of nephews, helping grandparents, arranging meetings, and organizing a presentation about our trip. Additionally, we continued working on our other projects and thus within the 10 days in Lithuania we got everything but rest. Besides the lack of sleep, we felt very happy finally to be close to our friends and families - a rare thing in our life.

From Lithuania we traveled to Berlin, which was a cold venture with minus 4 degrees celcius and snow falls the night before. A Lithuanian truck driver finally rescued my feet from a freezing death and let me rest nearly full time during our 1,5 day trip from Kaunas (Lithuania) to Berlin. It was a big advantage since my frozen feet allowed a strong cold attacking me which spread quickly through my stressed body.

While I got out of the truck in Berlin, Augustas continued with it towards Luxembourg. Although it was going near Lux, Augustas decided to leave this slow-moving vehicle. He got fast 250 km ride to Frankfurt am Main and then got stuck for the whole night in a gas station, where being tired it took him ages trying to biuld borrowed tent, finally realizing he has forgotten some core parts of it. The following day finally he was lucky, arriving at his friend’s place in Luxembourg around noon. After a couple of interesting and relaxing days spent with his friends, Augustas finally headed for Oostende (Belgium) to visit his mother with her husband. Also here he was entertained well, enjoying lots of good food and care, and finally leaving towards Leipzig to meet me.

Meanwhile I picked up my bicycle from the house of my friend Therese’s grandmother, where it was stored for the last three years. Thick dust had built on top of it, and air didn’t exist in its tires anymore. In the night followed a wonderful get together of my closest friends, where we made together a delicious vegetable stew. It was touching that all those friends had time to meet me on this only evening I was staying in Berlin, and welcomed me back so heartily.
Content but tired the following afternoon I somehow managed to carry my bicycle in one hand, and my carriage in the other hand to the train station for taking a train to Leipzig. Instead of the carefully planned two hours I needed only one to arrive at the station (we are not in Latin America anymore…). This resulted myself standing and waiting for the whole hour in the cold. I survived, though, and once I arrived in Leipzig I fell into my mom’s arms with big happy tears on my cheeks.

After only two days spent with my mom I headed to my sister Christina in Gera. Although the program had forseen caretaking of the children, I found lots of time for calming down, resting, and getting rid of my cold. The days were mainly spent with doing nothing but chatting with my sister, picking up children from kindergarden and school, and spending some time with them building snow man and snow castles, which always ended in a snowball fight.

Just being back in Leipzig Augustas was already knocking on the door, spending with us 3 wonderful days. We used the chance enjoying the German pre-christmas time with the three of us discovering the Leipzig Christmas market during one afternoon. Intense smells of Glühwein (hot wine), and irresistable Christmas bakeries occupied our noses. With fried mushrooms, potatoe pancakes with apple jam, and candied almonds our stomachs enjoyed a merry atmopshere after our eyes got tired from watching the beautiful christmas decorations. The mini life concert done each afternoon during the weekend on the balcony of the old town hall in front of the Leipzig Christmas market gave finally our ears time for joy too. Only the high amount of visitors and due to our frozen big toes we let ourselves convince of leaving this colorful place.

The coming weeks will be marked by lots of Christmas preparations such as Christmas baking and meetings with more friends and family, which is an enjoyable time waiting ahead for both of us - no matter that we are in different places of Europe, since Augustas is already back in Lithuania while I continue my stay in Germany.

Lots of greetings to all of you whom we didn’t meet so far in Europe and of course all our friends and families, which we had to leave behind in Latin America - and there are many of them after three years hitch-hiking from Mexico to Argentina

We wish you happy time!
Katja and Augustas

I had organized a birthday present for Augustas, which was sent to Santiago de Chile. Since we encountered problems keeping the package for an unlimited time free of charge in Correo Chile post office, we made an appointment for July 2nd to pick it up. We calculated roughly that, if we would leave on June 26th, we could have a short visit to Cafayate (in Calchaquíes valleys in province of Salta) before passing via Mendoza to Chile. Unfortunately, hitchhiking isn’t much of a pleasure in Argentina, especially not on smaller roads with unfrequent traffic. After spending two entire days on heading towards 81 miles afar Cafayate, we turned around having managed only half. We decided to take the main road between Salta and Tucuman, which would lead us kind of straight to Mendoza, and finally Chile.

<div class="wp-caption alignright" 200 style="width: 210px;">

a ride, great company, a meal, and a big laugh before leaving these wonderful people we got to know on the road

This change of direction lead to a chain of unexpected events. Carolina, a teacher in rural areas around Salta region of Argentina, brought us straight back to Salta. She invited us for lunch, and showed us her favorite book “Spark your Dream“, written by Herman and Candelaria Zapp, who are on the road with their 3 children in an oldtimer built in 1928.

Satisfied in stomach and mind we walked towards a gas station, where within a second we got a ride. Driving in the latest version of a fancy 4×4 our driver complained about the agricultural tax increase which the Argentinian government imposed in March 2008. His mourning about the situation was difficult to understand looking at his seemingly wealthy lifestyle. Instead, it was probably wiser to listen to little farmers depending on him who in general suffer a life on or below the poverty line…

<div class="wp-caption alignright" 200 style="width: 210px;">

Left in a dirty, unpleasant drive-through town, we had a hard time to continue. We were saved by Faustino who responded immediately to my sign presented to each driver waiting at the traffic lights. Faustino was amazing. He is father of six grown-up, nearly independent kids, who always dreamed of conquering the world. He would not ignore a hitchhiker, and occassionally invite those picked-up strangers to his house, knowing that his wife was all but happy about vagabonds at her home. In exchange he could live for moments the life he was dreaming about through a strangers, and continue to shape his idea of leaving home again in the future, hitting the road which way ever. Since strikes of agriculturists caused a huge lack of petrol in Argentina, Faustino invited us to spend the night at his house. Though the initial meeting with his wife was seemingly unpleasant for her, we experienced a complete behavioural change within the next two hours. In the morning we left each other, hardly being able to stop hugging each other.

<div class="wp-caption alignright" 200 style="width: 210px;">

in front of our bus

Truck drivers at the gas station were not welcoming nor helpful to us. But somehow we won the jackpot with a ride in a brand-new bus produced in Brazil on his way to Arica, Chile. Our driver Pedro was incredible hospitable, making us feel comfortable in this - for us - luxurious mean of transport. We had great conversations, passed fascinating landscapes on the road towards Paso Jama, and were in a truly festive mood.

We were supposed to arrive in the afternoon on the Panamerican highway in Chile, but in Susques everything collapsed. The border on the Chilean side was closed due to heavy snow falls and iced streets. Susques lays at 3,700m above sea level, an altitude, which made me dependent on coca leaves. Initially, the border was supposed to open a couple of hours later. Finally, we had to stay two entire days in Susques, which made it unlikely to reach Correo Chile post office on time.

<div class="wp-caption alignright" 200 style="width: 210px;">

We spent two days with waiting, walking around windy Susques, observing indigeneous children with running noses, enjoying a hot shower enabled by a women heating an ancient huge water tank above open fire, visiting the local cemetery, eating too many bread buns and peanuts, cooked terribly slow due to the altitude, and froze at least half of the day because of temperatures reaching until minus 59 degrees Fahrenheit (-15 Celsius) at night. The first night, though spent inside the bus, we nearly froze, and could hardly sleep on the narrow cold ground the bus offered us. Waking in the morning with numb noses, we could not quench our thirst due to crystal frozen water in the bottles. Pedro with his big heart offered for the second night his sleeping cabin in the bus. He himself shared a truck with another driver. The cabin was a paradise in this harsh nights up in Susques.

Since we let the light iluminate the whole bus for at least four hours the previous evening, the battery was out of power in the morning, and the motor did not start in the freezing temperatures. Watching Pedro and his Brazilian trucker friend, who had frozen throughout the night terribly, shivering in their summer pants while searching for a solution, made us feel terribly guilty. One hour lasted the experiments both undertook to make the bus wake up.

Around 11am we slowly hit the road driving towards Chile. The border crossing went perfect, the surroundings were marvellous, and the road nearly uninhabited. Early afternoon we arrived in San Pedro de Atacama catching a ride with a couple, which had broken their word to take us from Susques to Calama, Chile, as agreed upon the previous day. Actually, even as we caught up with them on the Aduana in San Pedro de Atacama they were not much willing to take us. But well, they did not say ‘no’, and thus we sat in and enjoyed the fact that justice was now done in this case. Needless to say, ‘better don’t escape‘…

could you give us a ride, please? it was rather a thought...

From Calama we made it the same day until near Taltal, and the next night until a gas station about 45 miles before Santiago de Chile. On July 2nd, as agreed with Correo Chile, we picked up our package. Watching Augustas happiness of holding the necessary mini-laptop ASUS EeePC finally in his hands, gave this 1200 miles (2000km) “hitch”-hike from Salta (Argentina) to Santiago de Chile a sparkling atmosphere.

Last weekend Argentina took advantage of the long weekend. For this reason the hitch-hikers community of Buenos Aires province decided to invite everybody to the regional meeting. The event took place in a camping located about 500 km south from Buenos Aires and 15 km from the nearest village La Dulce (”sweet”).

There were about 30 participants mainly from Buenos Aires and Mar del Plata cities (the national hitch-hiker ga

therings get over 100 people). The first day our gathering was visited by 2 bicyclists from Mar del Plata who 2 days previously had started their no-time-limits journey towards the most Southern town of the country - Ushuaia. Among all the travelers were 3 foreigners: us two and Erika from Estonia, who is working as a volunteer in Argentina through the European Volunteer Service organization. The oldest person in the meeting was 48 years old Carlos, who started to travel by hitch-hiking 3 years ago after he got to know the community of Argentinean hitch-hikers online and in person.

The first travelers came to La Dulce camping Friday night, but most of the people arrived during Saturday and few more on Sunday. Almost everybody was hitch-hiking, except one with his own motorcycle, and a young family with a boy who came with the car.

<div class="wp-caption alignleft" 100 style="width: 110px;">

it looks like in a witch's kitchen

Somehow organizers managed top bring two big pots to the meeting, so everyday there was a common food (mainly non-vegetarian). There was a clear leader among the cooks - Magi. Seemed that if not her - everybody would have spent the weekend hungry Meanwhile we were cooking independently using our multi-fuel stove, as we prefer a bit more balanced meals…

<div class="wp-caption alignright" 100 style="width: 110px;">

One evening around the fireplace everybody was sharing their stories about how did they get into the Autostop community. Listening to the people’s experiences seemed that a lot of them got involved into Autostop Argentina movement after searching Internet for the information related to traveling. The advantage of AutostopArgentina.com.ar website is that it contains a lot of useful tips about different rural areas of Argentina and other countries. In the forums of this website travelers also organize different events related to hitch-hiking.

We are greatful to the Argentinean hitch-hikers for the interesting long-weekend in La Dulce camping. At the same time it makes us feel pity that in the nearest future we will not be able to participate in those wonderful community events, as in 10 days we will be flying to Europe…

While the time is passing, a lot of things are going on. We meet new people and learn new things. Staying for 1 month in San Rafael town in Argentina was not different. During this period we made friends with an architects family, for the first time we got to know about Pilates (system of physical exercises), we also got to know one very interesting theory of what causes back pain - TMS (Tension Myositis Syndrome), we experienced our 3rd fasting (this time for 25 days), and focused on improving communication and understanding between each other.

San Rafael was to us a cosy and calm place for relaxing, taking time for ourselves, and for truly enjoying the freedom of an own place of living - a rare case in our journey.

What is next? Well, let’s have a look: Coming weekend we will hitch-hike 1300 km to the gathering of hitch-hiking community of Autostop Argentina. It will take place in the camping of a small village called La Dulce, about 500 km from Buenos Aires. October 13 is a public holiday in Argentina (probably Columbus Day), so we will have a “long weekend”.

After the hitch-hikers meeting we will head to the “capital” of Che Guevara - Rosario (730 km). Here we want to meet with more local hitch-hikers and a girl with Lithuanian roots. Finally we will be off to Buenos Aires and surrounding places. Besides meeting various till now only virtual people, we will have two main activities - participating in the 82nd anniversary of Centro Lituano (Lithuanian Center) and taking an airplane to Madrid on 28th of October. YES! we will be flying to Europe!

hitchhiking behind a dust wall

Last Christmas we were talking about “7-plus-5″ pattern we are living. During the last 3 years we lived a couple of months in Belize, Ecuador and time to time in other countries. This time we decided, why can’t we choose Europe for that!? Moreover, we really miss our families and friends over there. Since they did not manage to visit us, we will have to do that ourselves. So, we will be in Europe for a while. Probably for about half a year. Afterwards… well, we already have dreams for new travels and new ventures into the unknown…

Meanwhile, do not worry, we are not switching this website off, we will keep following the road and we will do our best to bring our experiences to the virtual world and thus to YOU ;D

Today is our Fasting Day 9 and we fast for the third time in the last 13 months. We feel good because we believe it is the right way to be healthy. Every time we meet new people we have to explain why we do this fasting. Well, we simply WANT TO LIVE LONG!

Here in San Rafael (Argentina) we found new friends - a quite known family in town named Rigattieri. Father Fernando is interested in spiritual activities, so in his library he found the Spanish edition of the old book “Rational Fasting” by Arnold Ehret. We have already finished reading and learned a lot of interesting things, which we would like to share with you:

Mucus in our body is the cause of all diseases. It takes over our body completly. First it sits in the digestive system, then enters other parts of the body and finally infects our blood, thus making our heart work hard. At some point the heart simply does not have strengths anymore to handle the mucus, which is the moment when a human dies… In the natural way of life, though, we are supposed to enjoy a mentally happy and physically strong life until the very last moment when we finally fall asleep.

How do we get this mucus? Well, mainly by consuming wrong food. Reading his explanations I remembered how sometimes my mom was boiling red meat and later kept pot to cool down. Very often I saw pieces of jelly, which forms around boiled meat. Now imagine this jelly gathering in our bodies? We do not think and do not prevent that, and finally we get sick seriously (including cancer). There are many other things we consume that also “donates” mucus to our bodies. For example, vegetables that contain starch (potato, sweet potato, bread, rice, noodles).

Having mentioned mucus, there is a natural question - how to get rid of it? One of the most effective methods is fasting. During this process the body throws out all the trash, detoxifies the organs and the blood. A fruit diet is also a very good alternative. Arnold Ehret understands that some people simply cannot live without meat. For this reason he provides some advices how to improve protection of your body from mucus. Simply put efforts in chewing your food very well, until a porridge like consistence before you swallow. In this process the saliva already in the mouth decreases the formation of mucus. Though it will not prevent you from putting mucus in your body, it reduces it to a minimal amount.

There are a lot of interesting thoughts which the author shared in his “Rational Fasting” book. Fortunately, we found this book in English freely available on the Internet, so you are welcome to download it by clicking this link (PDF):

For those, interested to read more about fasting, there is another book called “The Miracle Of Fasting” written by the classical fasting expert Paul Bragg. His books are not freely distributed, but it is possible to download it from alternative sources on the Internet:

By the way, if you think fasting of 3 or even 4 weeks is something unbelievable, you will probably be surprised to hear that in the world exists people who neither drink, nor consume any food for many years. And they do not die! These kind of people are called Breatharians.

That is truly amazing. A couple of weeks ago somebody told us that in Bolivia he met a person who does not drink or eat, which was really hard to believe… But nothing is impossible. Following this topic, you might be interested to check out the free book “Life Style Without Food” written by Polish guy Joachim:
