This Friday’s Find: Vintage Trophies

It’s no secret that vintage trophies are all the rage right now – they are constantly being featured in home decor and fashion magazines and that could have a little something to do with why they’re so darn tough to turn up! ;o) If you’re lucky enough to get your hands on a few, they really can make the most darling centerpieces, whether for a reception or at home. Try grouping them in clusters {I find 3 work well together} and filling them with simple floral arrangements. I would suggest going with a few calla lily stems or a few white dahlias as these buds won’t overpower the charm of the trophy. If there’s an aged inscription or scroll on the trophy, that can oftentimes be just as breathtaking as the flowers and you don’t want that diminished. I also love that by using trophies as vases you’re essentially creating a backstory filled with victory and confidence – the perfect winning touch for a wedding!

Trendspotting: Macarons

Ah yes, the macaron. These pretty little French pastries have definitely grown in popularity this year. They are the perfect size for wedding favors and since they’re so colorful (each flavor having it’s own distinct hue), they’re the perfect addition to the ever popular dessert bar.

If you live in Atlanta, there’s a great little French bakery in Marietta where you can get them, or you can try here. You can also order macarons online from Paulette or Mad Mac. If you’re brave enough to try making them yourself, check out this adorable book or find a recipe on Aran’s beautiful blog.

Formal Fall Garden

Here in the South, the weather stays nice pretty late into the Fall which makes it feasible to have an outdoor wedding even in early November. I actually went to a friend’s wedding around this time last year (November 1st, to be exact) and it was 72 degrees - just perfect for their lakeside ceremony.

If you’re in the South, I think a wedding in a formal garden, filled with sculpted evergreens, stone statues and architectural details would be lovely and unexpected for a Fall wedding.

This Friday’s Find: Vintage Costume Jewelry

I started collecting antique costume jewelry back when I was just a little girl. I remember digging through my great grandmother’s vanity table and layering strands of pearls around my tiny neck, placing rhinestone pins on my Osh Kosh overalls and donning a tiara to go play in her garden in the backyard. Maybe those fond memories are the reason I still love collecting pretty costume jewelry from bygone eras. The affordable baubles can add such life to an otherwise demure outfit and I love how a classic rhinestone pin always adds a dazzling touch to anything it adorns. The crown and scepter pin above would be just perfect for a wedding day clutch.

Today’s palette was sparked by last week’s Inspiring Image. I’m slightly obsessed with this illustration. All of Daniel Egnéus’ work is incredible but this is one of my favorites. Anyway, enough gushing… as I mentioned last week, I thought the colors in this illustration would be great for a Fall palette so I decided to put one together. Here ya go:

Eclectic Elegance

I was recently asked by a friend (who happens to be a wedding planner) to pull together a few inspiring images for an intimate wedding for a couple with a very eclectic sense of style. This wedding will be romantic and elegant, incorporating the couple’s love of French culture and classical music as well as their Caribbean heritage and fun, free-spirited side. They want their wedding to be small but lavish, formal but still fun.

I love the idea of mixing disparate styles – if done well, it can create a really beautiful, unique look. Here’s what I came up with for this elegant, eclectic wedding…

This Friday’s Find: Vintage Books

Vintage books are one of my favorite things to collect. I always look for fun + quirky titles or beautiful illustrations. I love imagining who used to flip through the pages … whether the book spent more time tucked away on a shelf in a library or being well-loved by its owner. And many come in such gorgeous covers and colors that they look fabulous just sitting about the house in stacks here and there.

I do think they’d be a delightful touch at a vintage-themed wedding, either as centerpieces {stacked and surrounded by a ribbon} or tucked around the cake table or guestbook table for decoration. With so many different categories and topics, you could easily collect titles that represent you and your future husband in some special way. I’ve collected several that I think would be fun to include at a wedding, ranging from etiquette books to bridal fiction to silly titles – and you can browse through them right here at CB Vintage.
